He got a $4k discount off what he bought, $3k upfront and $1k on the trade in.
Because Indiana's tax rate is higher than AZ's you would pay the AZ rate. Then when you get to IN you would pay the difference between the 2 rates. Essentially you would pay the full IN rate, but you would not pay the AZ rate PLUS the full IN rate.
I would either trade or sell the Nissan in AZ. 4X2 trucks do just fine out here, and Nissan's do well.

no premium package but has the important stuff as individual options: leather interior, sunroof, factory radio is great.
Car is in good shape. Dented the front bumper and cracked a headlight a year or so ago. The body shop did an outstanding job on it, better than new really. Has some scratches on the bumper, and when the driver's door rattles a bit when it shuts if the window is rolled down (that last one is small potatoes, but happens to irritate me).
Looking for a good number for a private placement sale in Los Angeles.
If I am happy with the truck (which I am), and 2 wheel drive is fine in Indiana, I should keep the truck? I don't want to sell it if I don't have to. I really like it. I am more concerned with future resale value in IN, and how it will do in the weather. If both of those things are ok, then I will keep it.

If you like the truck keep it. I have an 04 LE CC 4x4 and it wears Bridgestone Blizzaks in the winter, I hardly ever use 4WD. Its great in 2WD on slick roads especially if you have VDC.

In Indiana, there may be some lesser value because it is a 2WD pickup.
Resale is dependent on many things, overall vehicle condition, mileage, how desireable that vehicle is in a given market, etc.
Will that truck be worth less in Indiana than AZ? Probably.
Will it be alot less? Probably not. Most likely only a few hundred dollars.
If resale is your only concern, keep your truck.
If you REALLY want a new vehicle, than trade or sell the Nissan in AZ. Very strong market here for Nissan.
Because of my past experience up north, I was gunshy about having my wife drive a 2wd drive truck again in the winter. But, if the winter weather is milder, then I should be okay. I REALLY did not want to trade it, as I have had zero issues with it, and the payment is really low!
Thank you all for the help on this. Moving cross country is stressful enough. Now I don't have to add buying a new vehicle to the mix.

2005 Nissan 350z touring Roadster
2300 miles ultra metallic yellow exterior (for some reason I couldn't find this color for the 2006 model on Nissan's website, don't know if they discontinued it) Black leather interior

Dealer will let me have it for 32k or 34500 out the door.
What do y'all think?
Thanks.

Year/Make/Model: 1995 Saturn SL2
Body Style: 4dr
Mileage: 150k
Color: Gold w/tan interior
Major Options: Power windows, door locks, 1 power mirror, I think it has the "better" speaker system with AM/FM/Cassette, Cruise Control, and A/C that still works relatively well.
Condition:
Cosmetically, it's probably about average for a car that's more than ten years old. The interior is a little faded, but no major stains/tears/excessive wear. There is a scratch on the dash and some chips in the plastic on the door. The dash is a bit faded too. But the interior looks almost identical to when I bought it used July of 2002. On the outside, it is dent-free (duh, it's a Saturn, it's 90% plastic), but the paint is flaking. There are also some "scratches" on the back bumper from where my sister backed into a rough-cement wall.
The front tires are less than 5k miles old. The rear ones I've been told have about 10-15k left. One set of brakes pads were replaced about 15k ago. The others have again been there since I bought the car four years ago, but were virtually new when I bought the car.
Maintenance has been done regularly. The previous owner used the dealership almost exclusively for routine maintainance. I, too, used a Saturn dealership for most of the limited maintainance that I needed. My dad changed the brakes, and when I had the accident (see below) the repairs were done by a shop with a very good reputation. The car uses oil, about 1 liter per thousand miles. The dealership says this is "normal" and they can't find the cause. If I hold a papertowel over the tailpipe, I can tell that some oil is leaking through. The only non-regular things I have had to do in the last four years are: replace a coolant hose, brake pads, new battery (last weekend), and replacement of a plastic piece in the wheel-well that is supposed to protect things from flying into the engine. It sometimes hesitates shifting from 1st to 2nd, especcially if it is cold. Last summer it overheated twice to the point where the check engine light came on, both on days that were 90+ degrees and I was driving long distances. Overall, all of the inspections say that they can't find anything, but the car still isn't perfect. Mostly it's just old, but I'm in a continual state of worry about what could go wrong.
Other: January 2005 the car slipped on the ice and slid sideways into the sidewalk curb. $800ish insurance claim replaced the front axel, driver's side wheel and tire, and hence alignment. I haven't driven it much in the last 6-9 months, but it seems to be doing okay.

Some other questions:
Kelly Blue Book says I should expect $800, but Edmunds says the TMV for tradein is $100-200. I'm assuming the later is more accurate, but hoping I can get at least $500. Is this reasonable?
I don't want another Saturn, but I know that you can get a better deal if I went to them. Does that benefit carryover if I, say, went to a Toyota dealership whose owner also owns a Saturn dealership?
Am I better off just taking the car to a junk yard and seeing if I can sell it directly to them, since that is where it will most likely go? If so, are there any tips for how to negotiate that sale?
THANK YOU, very much.
Car dealers pay for KBB.
We (consumers) pay for Edmunds... no wait, we DON'T pay for Edmunds :-)
I suppose they get their money from advertisers. But Edmunds is definitely consumer oriented.
Here I leave room for everyone to mumble something appreciative about how Edmunds provides data and web space (such as this) for free.
As a rule, both do not add/subtract enough for miles that are lower/higher than average. Neither keeps up with seasonal and geographical fluctuations.
And neither writes checks.

Sometimes they are close, sometimes they aren't.
Also, the data is usually out of date by the time it is compiled and processed.
Next, there are 2 KBB's. One the dealers see and one the consumers see online. The KBB "trade value" bears no resemblence to the KBB wholesale and retail values dealers recieve every month.
Junk yards won't probably want it, it doesn't have the value in the metal that other cars will have. Salvage yards might, but on a car that old you might get $25 for it.
Trade side and you will get basically zero for the car. It has about a -$200 value to a dealer. The disposal costs plus the labor time to move the car around and handle the paperwork.
If you want $500 for it, park in the obvious location near the trailer park with $500 in the window and says runs.
But for one to be around $10k, and the other to be $14k, to me it is very confusing and practically...worthless.
I could see if they were off by $1k, or perhaps even $2k, but to have a difference of $4k is hard for me to understand.
Of course in vehicle values, perception IS reality.
We do lots of those less than perfect DGCs at the BHPH and get them all day long at and around $2K-2.5K at 5-7 years old, 100K+, not quite the prettiest ones and maybe a minor mechanical thing or two.
The condensor coils are known issues on that vehicle, a mere $1200 at the dealer should fix the A/C. The dent will need to be seen at a body shop to determine the value hit that will bring. Take any trade offer that goes over $2000 ACV."
Here is a follow up question, if I get the AC fixed (and you are correct, it will be about $1300) will I get any of that back if I trade it in next spring? I'm in that nether world of wanting to buy next spring, but it will cost $1300 in AC fixes if I do.... will they pay more if I get the AC fixed? Thanks.
Find parts at a junkyard, and get it fixed for much less than that.
If you do spend 1300 at the dealer, you will recover a few hundred of it when you sell it.

You've hit the nail on the head, they are practically worthless.
Imagine that you are buying and selling stocks, the price can change from day to day. Yet, you are basing your decisions on an estimate that only comes out once a month and is obsolete when you recieve it.
Wholesaling cars is an art, not a science. Like trading stocks you have to be able to percieve trends and somewhat predict the future.
Chrysler extended the warranty to 80K or 7 years on the A/C condensor, unknown if they extended it any further.

(ii) I made a dumb remark over in CCBA; the Buy-It-Now is not an option once there is a 'normal' bid, of course. I'm guessing you'll come up close to that price if not over.

robr: The spiders have been dispaced. Between us finishing the basement and selling the Lexus they are out of luck. I doubt the TSX will stay parked long enough for the spiders to build a teepee, much less a condo.

You should give eBay a try. One of the secretaries here just bought a digital postage scale for $39.95 at the post office. I've bought one with the same capabilities for less than half that (even counting shipping) on eBay...
I wish I was paying attention. I hate it when I miss a great deal. At that price I would have definitely bid on it. Just what I was looking for. My Lexus-freak buddy and I would have made the trek from Gwinnett Co. to see the car. He'd prolly have killed me if I didn't buy it or try to win the bid.
If something changes with the deal, LMK.

The car has 2 new tires and 2 old tires. The brakes, right front CV boot/axel, and engine/transmission mounts were replaced just a few months ago.
The A/C blows air but the air the comes out is either warm or just slightly cooled... nothing like it should be.
The paint on the roof is very dull but the rest of the car is shiny. Just had the hood repainted because it rusted and peeled. Several scratches that are probably average for a 6 year old car. Front bumper has a 3 inch crack.
This car was damaged in a front end and rear in collision. Damages have been repaired.
Any and all help is really appreciated.
I hope the sale works out for you. That was a first-rate eBay presentation you guys put together -- the car looked fantastic.
(I'm not in the market for a high-miler Lexus 900 miles from home, so don't get any optimistic ideas.)
