You're so lucky if you really get at KBB for trade in. I traded in at least 6 cars in the past 8 years and most of the time I got a little below than KBB.
Buying at invoice depends on the type of cars. For some cars, dealer are very happy to move at or below invoice. So, the trade in value is kind of diff. to be exact when you trade/buy at the same time. just my 2 cents. :shades:

I would point out, however, that you don't necessarily have to give up rebates in this case. Most domestic dealers would be quite happy with invoice minus rebates and giving you KBB for your trade. Why? Because, IMO, they often sell BELOW invoice minus rebates and because they are more likely to keep the trade-in for their own lot.

Our used car/F&I manager worked for ford dealerships her entire career before working here.
In general they operated the new car side of the sales department as a loss leader the whole time. There goal was to limit the blood flow enough that they would only lose a little bit of money. Hopefuly they limit it enough that by the time you add in the used car side the entire sales department makes a tiny profit before fixed overhead costs at least.
Once you add those fixed costs in they typically just broke even. So yeah I can see a lot of domestics being perfectly happy to sell at invoice minus all rebates plus KBB trade value for the old car.

Interior is in excellent condition, no stains, rips, spills, etc.
Exterior paint is good, but has door dings scattered on doors, one or two other dents that are "popable", ie not crease dents....
3 Major problems: Both Front and Rear plastic bumpers are cracked, Full cracks, not just hairlines...but not a complete break, but about a 1/4 way from an edge where the crack started into the bumper..
Hood has a small area of "pock-like" dents from a falling branch..non are crease dents, but dunno if they can be popped out because of the extra metal layer that is on the under side of the hood?
(thanks to people in the parking lots that hit and ran, in the cold winter, which immediately cracked)
from KBB and edmunds, I come up with about $3000-$3300 as a trade-in value for a "fair" condition VP?

No idea of the trade-in value, but I think you'd be crazy to trade it in.. Even with the Taliban exterior, you could sell it yourself for $3K... or more..

wholesale is what a dealer should give you as a trade in. ALot of times, dealers overallow on trades, they simply don't discount the new car that much. American cars are the worst for trade in. Even the Mustang isn't immune.

To give an idea of a Civic's value as a used car -
Last Saturday I saw an '02 EX coupe at an Acura dealer. It had JUST been traded in. It had low miles (mid 40s), good tires, and a nice interior. It also had a destroyed rear bumper, a couple of dozen dents down the passenger side, and the right front fender needed to be replaced. My guess was that the dealer MAYBE had 7 in it.
Their asking price before it went to their bodyshop was (drumroll, please) $10,900.
Their projected asking price after it's fixed was $12,900.
As far as your car goes - put a sign in it and it will sell. If it doesn't, hit me up, I'm looking for a such a ride for my son.

Yes I keep em' a long time. People generally think this car is much newer than it is, it looks nice and it runs great, no probs. Better to trade in or sell private or to a private. Is it worth having a prof detail or not worth the input.

Definitely not worth it to trade it in if it is as nice as you say for 173K. Start by getting it really clean inside and out and throw a for sale sign in the window every where you drive it.
If you have a good snow and people can't get around easily, you might see someone wander towards $2500 strong money, so ask $2,900.
Like someone else said, a nice $1000 "lump" on trade often gets 2-3 times that easily on private sell with no real effort.
Dealer has 2006 Vette base with 6600 miles. I have 2006 Solara SLE V6 loaded with 13,000 miles. I offered my Solara and $22,000 for the Vette. My numbers all courtesy of Edmunds. He wanted $26,000 difference. I left. Both have warranty clocks ticking. Am I wrong or is he being greedy?
Thats a tough one. Looking at the raw numbers, I think you are in the ballpark. Of course, I don't know what he owns the vette for and what he wants to make on it. Unless you are in the south or the southwest, this isn't a good time to sell a vette, so the dealer may not want to keep the car around for 3 months. On the other hand, Camry Solara's aren't high demand merchandise either. Sounds like you should be able to make a deal if you both give a little.
If I knew there would be flex on both sides I might dig a little deeper, but dealers here in Wytheville, Va do NOT budge on price. To the point of being anal. Need a New 2005 Vette, we have one. Need a New 2004 GTO, we have one. These dealers would rather strangle themselves than give anyone a price break. My numbers from Edmunds are correct and I'm going to stick to them as long as Ramey can stick to his profit margain. I'm a car guy and I just hate to see this fine 2006 Vette sitting out in the snow while my Solara sits in a heated garage. I'll visit that nice 06 Vette every couple months, but it'll still be out there come summer, fall and 2008. And Ramey will continue to wait for this elusive rich guy to fall out of the sky and pay his price.

See if you can find another dealer with a 2006 Vette to dealer trade with your local dealer, if the local dealer has the one equipped like you want it. Going out of town might get you a better deal.

Well there are a lot of 02 Maximas out on the market for about 8500 retail, Average reconditioning plus a few dings and scratches will cost the dealer about 500 plus he has to make money on the deal too. 94k miles? That is a lot of miles for a dealer to put on the vehicle for a lot, most of the big names will not do it. It will go to the auction, you will get about 6500- 7000 for it or so at a dealer. But I would have to see it to be sure. :confuse:
Well...you sure are not going to like this number but according to my research you are going to get about 20-21k trade in for you vehicle. And that is based on what the quctions are giving away the vehicle for.

You are probably better off trying to sell it privately.
Retail is much harder to peg, since you are at the mercy of the market, and competing with dealers.

I too would think someone would want this car, great for someone looking for say a first car for a new driver, or even just as a commuter vehicle....
It has run perfect so far, not one engine/tranny problem as of course you'd expect with a honda! but it has been great...
Only thing with the VP is that it doesn't have power windows, VP only came with power locks, A/C, etc, but the ol' manual crank windows...
Not many cars out there today still using crank windows!

NAV usually adds about $500 to the trade-in value. So I guess maybe $600-$700 on the retail price.
