    Dangit! I had the Fourth.
What's it gonna be, sista? CRV? Foresters are pretty cheap and keep their value pretty well also.

I know you'll let us know,

I dunno what its going to be, just concentrating on getting the Durango to go bye bye right now. Probably a CR-V though, it seems like the most logical choice and it will hold its value......not like I ever get rid of a vehicle or anything.

    Hint: Pick Christmas time, lol

I have a '97 Honda Accord V4 EX w/ about 182,000 miles. I am seeing trade-in values of everywhere from $1,250-$4,000. I think the pricing alorithms might be breaking down at the higher milage. Everything in the car works and its pretty clean. Never smoked in and the maintenance has been great. The glass has been stolen out of the passenger power side mirror and I havn't bothered to replace that yet. The brakes probably need some work and it is due for the 180k timing belt exchange. Car has power sunroof, CD player, cold AC, automatic, power windows/doors/mirrors, cruise control, clean cloth interior, and tilt-wheel. Wheels are Honda stock premium alloys. Anybody have any guidance?

I'm not in the biz, but typically dealers won't touch high mileage vehicles with a 10 foot pole. Your best bet is probably to sell it yourself. Other folks here will give you the recommended price, but I'd bet it won't be much. It's got 182K miles and needs quite a bit of work.

Hey you, long time no see.. how's Alaska?

I don;t have much info on the market up there.. but if it's otherwise clean, sounds like a $6k-6500 truck to me. Now, in Nanookville.. who knows.. maybe $7k? $7500?

    How's things up there?
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Rich,

Sounds like a nice Sport Trac...

Tough call with miles that low, going to depend on who gets called on it.. to the right buyer, easily $10k. I'd hit it myself in the low 9s.. it is a nearly 7 year old domestic SUV, but if it looks like a cherry 37k mile truck.. No paintwork, etc... I could see a $10k ACV easily.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
You'd be surprised what that's still worth... Now.. question time!

    a) Where is the car located? If it's in FL, it's going to bring all the $$.

    b) How's the paint? Interior? Etc? Is it clean, shiny paint, no paintwork.. never been wrecked, nice tires.. etc, or does it look like a Tijuana Taxi?

If this car's cherry other than the mirror, I could see high teens to $2k or perhaps a shade more in the right market, if it looks like it's led a hard life, $500.
  • crazymacrazyma Member Posts: 20
    Thanks everyone for your help.

    a) The car is located in the Boston market, but spent almost all of its life in the south. The only significance there is it has seen light winters and the underbody is free of rust.

    b) The paint is still shiny. Interior has no problems. Seats have average fade, but they were light to begin with. There have been no accidents, no paint work, no bodywork, no bondo, etc. Chrome accents are all still shiny. Tires are probably halfway through their life. They were middle-of-the-road so to speak when new. There really are no mechanical problems, other than the scheduled maintenance to the timing belt and the brakes and the missing glass to the power mirror.

Thanks again for all of your suggestions.

You're coming on the right time of year here to hit up the students going to college who just need something that starts & stops on command.

I'm not a pricing expert at all, but I'd sell that privately. If you can put it in a high-traffic location with a clearly visible sign and price it in the high teens, that would be my best guess for a quick sale.

Alaska is fine, HOT, but fine, lol. Things are going well, between the kids and horses I hardly have time to car shop!

I think you nailed it, its been hit at $6k, $6500, and $7k, lol. Its kind of all over the place. One dealer said private party is probably $8500, I'm going to ask $9950 and pray for $9k. Its a nice little SUV, runs great, looks pretty good too and is in a cheap enough price range where I think it'll move pretty easily.

Thanks Bill!! Good to see you around here again!

    She is in Sacramento, California.
    2000 Honda Civic VP, 4-Door. 4-cylinder, Automatic.
It has 68,000 miles on it.
Dark Green, with (I think) grey interior.
    Tires are almost new-Michelin HydroEdge.
All mechanical work done by Honda dealer.
    Overall condition is Fair/Good.
Has had a couple accidents, but has been fixed by dealer. She has done several moves, so the inside is worn.

Trade or Retail? She is alone and is apprehensive about trying to retail...

    Thanks,

If I can get a little help here. I got a quote of $15500 trade in at a Honda dealership in town. Just curious if this is all the money or if there is a bit more to push for.

    Body Style: 4dr sedan
    Engine: I4
    Driveline: FWD
    Mileage: 4300
    Color: silver exterior, gray interior
    Major Options: tint, stock otherwise
Condition: no major issues. car only has 4300, no wear or tear.

    Thanks!

I looked these up in Galves a couple of months back, but wanted to get more of a "real-world" number, if possible.

    '05 Pacifica Touring AWD.
leather, moonroof, heated front and rear seats, DVD, chrome wheels, memory seats, power adjustable pedals, power liftgate ... ummm... i think that about covers the gadgets.
Good condition. hmmm... 28k miles, i think. Dark blue over tan.

'06 Accord EX-V6 6-speed manual. 18K miles. Good condition. silver over black leather.

(hondas take it or leave it packaging makes pricing that one SO much easier, don't it?)

Oh, and both are in NJ, as always. Thanks!

    Well, hard to say.
Had a couple accidents and the inside is "worn".
Dealer could hit this car anywhere from $2-4,000.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    Prob real close.
If that car was in a big city,or on the West Coast its prob worth another $500-1,000
  • frankinbeansfrankinbeans Member Posts: 20
Thanks volvomax. I blame my parents for this then. They had to move Omaha, NE when I was 5 years old and I get screwed out of trade in value :)

Anyway it sounds like the dealer gave me a really good offer with the new truck/SUT I want and trade in value. Too bad I'm about 1K upside down though. Not sure if the new truck is worth the negative equity.

I have a 1993 Toyota Corolla with $107,000 miles, automatic, decent body and interior(clean) that I am thinking of selling on my own or trading in.What would be my expected trade-in range from a dealer?how about a range for a private sale?the car is located in New Jersey
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
$15,500 ought to kill it on trade.. you might be able to squeeze a tad more.. if you were in, say, SoCal.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
It's a $4,500-MAYBE $5k car.. if it was nice. Sounds like it's not that nice.. paintwork, interior issues.. etc.. $low-mid 3000s.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
More like shoot for $10,500.. if you get in the 9s it's reality. Like.. 93-9700.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Rudi,

Probably a $700-1000 car depending on how clean... better off throwing it on craigslist for $2,000 and watching it go bye bye quick.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    The Pacifica? $15,500-16k IMO.

The Accord? $16,500-17k is where I strike it... maybe a tich more at a Honda store, but it's a handshaker.....
  • Kirstie_HKirstie_H Administrator Posts: 11,242
I've gotta second that craigslist rec. After being offered $1500 at a dealership, a friend of mine put her 1998 Mazda 626 (77,000 miles) on craigslist yesterday afternoon for $4300. They're near a college, and by 7pm they'd taken 10+ calls and had it sold before dark.

While they're of little value to a dealership, older cars that start & stop on command are great for craigslist.

Thanks! Looks like 3 for 3 on $15500. I offered about $300 over "invoice" for the new truck, which I thought was fair for both parties. Wonder if the Internet Manager could meet half way and drop a few $100 on the new car side. Thanks everyone!

much worse than I was hoping, but what can ya do?
they are both leases, so I guess we are waiting until they expire. interesting that both are near their lease-end residuals now, yet one year left on the pac and two on the honda. looks like both manuf finance arms will be takIng baths.

    only 7500 miles

don't count on it. Remember, Bill is giving you wholesale (trade in ) prices. If that Accord went back today, you know it would show up on the front line for more $$ than that.

Of course, that gets into the grey area of who is making out, the dealer or the manufacturer 9finance arm actually), but they do make out along the way, in interest and inception fees.

What's with all these 2007s going up for bids?

Actually, they are both small cars being flipped for some kind of truck.

In both cases, since the big truck/SUV market supposedly crashed, look for a low mileage used one. Should save a bundle.

    Yo...

Location location location! Where ya at?

    Color combo?

Ever had any bodywork done? Don't laugh.. just saw a 1,500 mile 08 5 series getting major fixes @ my local body shop...
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736
well, in both cases, the interest is extremely low. Lower than I make on my money market. So I don't see them making anything there, technically. Inception fees were almost nonexistant (and certainly not enough to make up for that lost interest).

The dealer may make out, but not if they pay the residual for the vehicle. They'd need to negotiate that with the finance arm. If they do pay the residual, they may get hurt. If the finance arm negotiates, then they get hurt.

I guess that's the price of moving metal with big incentives.

Typically, I've found Honda to be on the mark with leases. I think where they made a mistake was their anticipation of the demand for 6-speed sedans. It cost the same MSRP and had the same residual as the automatics, yet is getting dinged for about $1k on the trade-in side. So that's basically $1k out of their pockets when I turn it back in.

The poor chrysler resale is no surprise.

Man, a 6 speed stick on an Accord sedan? You could sell ME one of those right quick - just not now since our 00 Accord with the mere 5 speed is basically a free car now and still has a good 5 years in it.

I suspect it's reached the point where it's probably worth little enough that those next five won't even be a big ding in depreciation.

now that I am poking around at used cars, you would be surprised at what an '00 Accord could go for.

But you are right, they next 5 years for you probably won't cost more than a few K in depreciation. You might be looking at what, $75/month?

Yeah. That's what I was thinking. I figure this is as close to a free car as I'll get and at 135K it still runs just fine. Even all the major maintenance has been done recently and the tires are new. HAve to belive this one will be around a while.

We'll have had it 8 years come December.

KBB and NADA are on crack when it comes to Land Rovers. I have no idea where they get their numbers from. Edmunds can be pretty close sometimes though.

Three things are gonna hurt you.

    1. You got a five passenger LR3 and all the demand for Used LR3s is on the seven passenger.

    2. The 2007 MY sell down is going on right now and the LR3 is the only Land Rover with any money on the bonnet.

    3. Its the middle of summer and the WORST time to trade in a SUV

My gut reaction was around 30,000 trade side. Just checking Galves, which no one uses around DC so take this with a grain of salt, I am thinking 29,000-31,0000.

I am assuming you have the cold climate package and the lighting package.

maybe its the special laced crack they smoke before pricing land rovers that is to blame.

Misters Volvomax or Im_Brentwood, please do me the honor of pricing my vehicle for trade in on something a little bit more fuel efficient(ie. Vibe or Civic).

    Philadelphia, Pa

    2003 Ford Escape XLT

    3.0l V6 , Automatic

    Front Wheel Drive

    68,000 easy highway miles

    White exterior/ Gray interior

    Sun roof/Alloys/Leather /step bars

All maintenance done, Tires are at 50%, Newer brakes, 3 or 4 tiny rock chips on the hood, no accidents or body damage.

    Thank you in advance.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Oh it is extra special crack for Land Rovers.

I have a 2005 Range Rover 33,000 miles that I can't sell for 48,500 with the Land Rover CPO warranty.

We just reduced it down to 47,xxx.

KBB on that car is 56,500 dollars. :surprise:
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Well, the miles don't help you.
    Prob a $7000 car.
Might see as much as $8000.

Hi. I saw a 2007 Subaru Legacy 2.5i automatic for sale with 4500 miles by a private owner...his asking price is $19795.
That seems high since new 2008 models with cash back incentives are going for $20,000.there is no data on trade in values for a 2007 that I could find. Normally a trade will yield the least, with private party sale next and dealer sale last. Is it reasonable to offer $17500 for this car if it is in excellent condition and has over 2 years to go on the warranty?
  • acendholeacendhole Member Posts: 7
of course i may be on crack too. it has been a great car. if i hold on till winter it will lose more value at 20k and 08's coming down the pike.
ill try lets make a deal and see what i can get.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Good luck and let us know what you get if you trade it in.

Don't let some dealer go on and on about unreliable Land Rovers and gas guzzlers hurting the price on them either. The LR3 won best residual value in its class at least once.

The 2008 MY LR3s are already here though so too late to miss that.

$20k buys you a new Outback 2.5i in the NW. Can't remember the ad prices for the Legacy, but they are lower than your offering price. NJ maybe higher. You might try fitzgerald subaru in the DC area for new pricing comparisons.
