Oh! can I play? Can I play? you went nutty, huh? Um.... I'm stabbing in the dark, but I'll say $4K. I really have no idea. Personally, I'd pass out if I found that car for $4K, and then I'd wake up a write a check (although it would bounce).
164s? Do you mean Alfa Romeos? Just curious. I was very close to buying one of those. Do you really find them at auctions? I can't believe anyone would ever trade one in rather than sell it privately. There has to be a huge margin in there.

...... All do respect.. with all the info on Ford's, I thought you might be kidding -- Personally, I like the Ford line up. And I think they have done a wonderful job with Jaguar and will do great things with Volvo and the others. -- Daimler should take some lessons here. But, also remember.. I do have a whacky sense of humor .. So please bear with us here, we are in the midst of buying Vixenslobbers ... l...o...l...
...... Nice truck ... (F150 ..right..? -- long bed ..?) V8, No miles, right color, all the right options and accessories (ARE+Westins huh..?, your a stepper) and it's a Supercrew..... 2WD doesn't help, but you are in Louiville and they like there trucks there.
I gotta think you are going to be in and around the hard side $23,000, if it's as nice as you think it is ....
..... OK, let's see ---- It's a base sport with a 6cyl, I'm sure. It has a ton of klicks, no pain with the 2WD in FL ... sooooo, I'm thinkin' the "EOW" would be around $14 ...
The Jag, that's a whole different story ..Man, a V12, with all the "eyes" .. and no miles, paint redone to look almost great --- Hmmmm, you got me on this one... I'm thinkin' if you lost your ^*#^& mind .. $6,000 ...???
Ok, run this up the flag pole -- 92 BMW 850i, 86K, Bimini blue (re-paint, but an 8 on a 10 scale) 9 total dings about the size of a dime, brand new Pirelli's all the way around, and tan hydes that look 98, has HK upgrade and the new Colt Exhausts ... all the books, keys and records --- What do Ya' think ..?
$5,100 across the block. I coulda done worse I suppose....
I figured that if a 91 Geo Prizm will do $4K plus, how bad can I mess up here?
What, no # on the megamile (43K) 01 Base Model Black 2WD Explorer Sport Track?
That Bimmer... hmm... I dunno if I like the color, and I personally hate V12 BMWs. Wait, I just bought a V12 Jag...ok... foot in mouth. Ok I'll assume its' an Automatic like most of them.
....Send me your address for my reading glasses ... It's that Top figure, at the beginning of the post --- here, let me put mine on again ---- Yep, it still says $14 ....
Hey not so bad on the $5,000 -- I was thinkin', Ya know $3,500/$4,200, then I started thinkin' you had some Molsons left over..had 1 or 9, and all of sudden ..Wango Tango ..ooops $6,000+
Yep, that's what I was thinkin' on the 8 Series --- someone will loose there mind, and start barking at the moon at $19,000 -- What was I thinkin ...? --- $21,500 , Yeeeeooow! hope that buyer has a place to stay tonite . . . l....o....l....
It did $16,000 at Imperial Tuesday nite. ANd the high bid was $15,600! Then they No-Saled it wanting $16,500!
What the heck? I figured I'd buy it for like $12K if that and throw it on eBay.
Anyhoo..... this Jag is that nice. I mean, THAT nice. No rust, no leaks, ice cold AC, new Sony CD Player, Everything works..etc... I coulda done worse I figured. I also figured it for $4,000-4,500 if I got ballsy... But I know where to send it.
$21,500? WOW! Way above what they're doing even at wackoland on West Colonial!
I figured it for $17,000... if that. Personally though, not a car I'd buy.
OK. I got another for ya. Time to Scare Terry.
1987 Bentley Eight Saloon. Brick Red/Tan Leather. Rebuilt title. (Sticker on door jamb but not announced onthe block... wanna see how quick THAT ended up at Arb?) Oh yeah, red light too... not even a seller guarantee. Obvious poor paintwork all over the place. Chrome Grille shell painted (And had been worked too) and mesh grille insert replaced with stainless steel tubes that looked like they came from Home Depot to sorta make it look like a Roller. Decent interior. 88K or so miles.
What do you think the guy wanted for this $9,500 car?
.... If it's a nice vehicle, and all the stuff is there ... $5,000 is not out of line.
What's the worst case scenario ..? You make it look like a diamond, ya know "Big Ad" it .. drop in front of the Grand Cypress or the Florida Mall with a nice "For Sale" sign for $9,900, and let some nice guy come over and insult you with $7/$7,500 .. and go get another nice one. These are funny vehicles, and if they got "eyes" there is a market for em'.
He had $15,600 in his greedy little hands and didn't grab it --- aaaah, was this guy wearing a turban and have a beard ..? l....o...l... Like I always say, "on any given day" -- Well that was his day, and he missed it. Gosh, Hertz ( alot of them from FL ) just dropped 3/400 SUV's off in Columbus, Detroit and Philly, and 2000 4x4 Eddie Bauers with 20K are doing the high side of the $16's ... what was he thinkin' ..... ? Make a planter out of it now.
I'm looking for a trade-in and private sale price for a 1998 A4 1.8T Tiptronic, Quattro, 60,000 miles, Santorin Blue, cloth, moonroof. I am in Detroit area.
... Nice vehicles .. the miles are a little stiff on this one and the cloth doesnt help.
If it's clean .. looks and drives like a 2000 and knee deep in rubber, and there is no parking lot kisses --- you are looking at, in and around the $14,000 figure from a dealer --- and if you decide to to sell it, detail it out, and throw a 5 liner in the Detroit paper for $16,900 and you will probably see (if its clean) in the high $15's ...
I'm not a dealer, but here in Chicago, even 96 A4s are still in the paper asking $13-15s, that's with V6 (only engine available that year). I think you could put it in our Tribune for at least $17.5k, for the hell of it and see what kinda response you get....... Yuppie kids in Chi-town are all over A4s, day and night. It has the moonroof and automatic (don't know WHY you'd get a 1.8t with auto, but that's just my opinion).
Looking at a MB E320 4matic at a MB dealer in the Boston area. 52,000 miles, silver, cd-changer, with Starmark guaranty. Dealer asking $35,900. Where do you think the deal gets done? Thanks for your help.
Few weeks ago, I went to the dealer's auction in Chicago area and picked up silver/onyx cloth '98 1.8T Quattro 5 speed w/ every option available, 41K miles, for ~$16,500 (+ TTL off course). I must have seen 20-30 '98 A4s sold that day, and most went around +/- $16K (depending on equipment, engine, color, previous damage, etc..). Since your car has 60K miles, $14-$15K wholesale seems reasonable.
Thanks for your quick response about my A4. I was offered $10.5 K as a trade-in on a 2002 Passat Wagon, which I thought was way low. The car has some small door dings and the scratches you can't avoid on a dark car, but otherwise it's in great shape. Is Detroit a bad place for i1mports or what? Maybe I need to go to Chicago
Guys, my dad just got transferred from Missouri to California, so he doesn't need a 4x4 anymore for winters (his 300ZX will be just fine year-round...LOL).
Anyway, any idea on what you think private party would get on his long-bed Toyota truck? I've tried explaining the online pricing guides and how, uh, "optimistic" they can be...
Here's his description:
1995 Toyota T100 DX. It has 4 wheel drive, 6 cyl. 3.4L engine. The outside is white with light blue interior. It is a 5-speed manual transmission stick on the floor with the 4 wheel drive on the floor as well. Bedliner and a full length rubber mat is included. It has 71000 highway miles, no off road mileage. Tires are the large oversize tires(same that dealer had on when new) and are brand new. Has air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, power steering, AM/FM cassette, sliding rear window.
I asked and there's no rust, no paint work. He's a car fanatic (he raised me, right? so the truck is in very good shape.
Any ideas? At this point, he was thinking of asking 10500, but willing to go to 9000. Seems like too large a range to me--people don't expect 1500 in negotiating room on a used vehicle, IMHO.
Once again, any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!
.... It's got 71 klicks on it, and it's clean with ..new.. tires.
It's a 4X4, that's a big help .. your dad is from the "Show me State", that's a big help ( they like their 4by4's in MO and CA.) it's a 6cyl, that's a "hard to find" ..AND it's a LB ... you can't find em'.
Of course, he has to mess things up with that handshaker ..(yuk) ..l...o...l.. -- But, I feel he will have no problem finding a buyer for this little rig ...
On the wholesale side, "If" it's super duper -- he would be looking in and around the high $7's low $8's- , from a dealer -- he has to be lookin' for a retail start price around $10ish ...
It's always better when you advertise a vehicle, to be the "Lowest" (or close to) in the paper --- Sometimes the "kiss of death' is the guy, that advertises his ABC in the paper for like, $2,000 over what it's worth. Then they are surprised when they get 0 calls in 2wks.
People today are savvy buyers ... They have read the Ad's for probably a week or so before they look, and all they want to do is make it as easy as possible for themselves .. as well as the seller. Everyone loves to negotiate, get a great deal, feel good about their purchase..etc. --- In my stupid opinion, it's easier to sell a vehicle that's priced at ..let's say $9950 for $9600 (plus more people will call) -- then it is to sell a vehicle priced at $10,500 for $9,600.
.... I know that the Detroit area can be a little funny sometimes, I have been to the auctions there a few times.
But, a Import dealer should be putting some "real" money in that A4 -- If you can't do business there, you might try the Ann Arbor area, all those MS students love Audi's.
..... That's a lot of miles for a 98 (on the broad market) ---- and there is quite a few of E classes coming off lease, and trade right now.
IF -- the MB is ..purrrfect, looks and drives like a 2000, I feel the right price would be more like $32/$33ish .. that's about it. I just bought a 99 E430 with 22K Champagne, and is purrrfect, through Wells Fargo (auction) for $33,500 .. so this should at least give you an idea.
I was wondering what your opinions are on the most reliable used car prices on-line (and in real life!!!).Due to illness, I have to sell my uncle's 1999 Camry and so far, with the equipment and mileage(10K), I have gotten prices of $14,600 from Edmunds, 15,600 from KBB and 14,800 from NADA. Why the discrepancy, especially between Kbb and the other two? Are there other sites I can also look at. Thanks
I am trying to trade in my '96 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS with 98k miles. Specs: auto, power locks, pw, alloy wheels, spoiler, black with grey cloth interior (clean), am/fm cassette radio, moon roof, overall clean body with some door dings, no accident history, but I do have an oil leak. What is the minimum I should accept before I give away my car feeling robbed? Thanks for your input.
If its' as nice as you say (Looks like it just about came out of the showroom, no paintwork..etc..)
Its' a $12,500-13K wholesale car all day long.
So figure you gotta be able to ask $14,900 for it and grab $14,000-14,500 bare minimum on a private sale. That car could still easily retail for $15K++
I'd advertse it like this:
1999 Toyota Camry LE Automatic. Champagne with Light Beige interior, Only 10K miles, excellent condition, no damage ever, a must see, only $14,950 Call John at 407-123-4567
Here in FL I think its' a $3,800 car. Take it to the Northeast, you have up to a $4,500 car if it needs nothing aside from some de-dinging. Whatcha think Terry?
......... It's the right color (anywhere) ... power seat ..? with only 10K. Low mile vehicles always brings a premium price. On the wholesale side, the Camry would probably do in and around the high $12's --- So a good "asking" price would be $14,900 ..IF, the vehicle is as clean as the low miles ...
My freind is looking at this accord which dealer got from an auction. Has a small scratch on the rear bumber which will be fixed by the dealer. What these cars are doing at the auctions ? It has 1 year & 11 K miles factory warranty on it.
Also, my car is 2000 Accord SE (same Red Exterior/Ivory INterior) with 14,000 miles ! What should be tarde-in for this one ?
2000 Accord SE comes with Alloys, Keyless Entry (with Trunk poener), Security, ABS, Imitation Wood with it over Lx
....... 30%++ of all the cars that people see from Maine to San Clemente, at dealerships come from the auctions.
Everything from Cavaliers to Mercedes..and everything in between .... One basic reason ---- If vehicles aren't moving after 30 days or so ( depending on the dealer ) ... it's time to "cut em' and run". There is not a dealer I know that doesn't "dust' his inventory every 30/40/60 days. It can be the most beautiful Porsche in the world -- but, if that puppy dog isn't moving, it's time for it to go ..bye bye .....!
But anyway, now that I bored you into a coma ...l...o...l... your SE is worth in and around the mid $15's ..maybe a tinge more ..(real money) because it has no miles, and the vehicle is super clean ..right..?
Sorry about that. I live in TX, but with the figure you gave for Florida I guess it compares, no? At least I know what to expect when they give me their trade in offer. Thanks for your input guys! You've been of great service!
One of my friends is considering buying a used BMW. He has found 2 that he really likes. Both are 525i's. The first one is a 2000 525i, sport and prem packages, white with beige, 24,000 miles. Asking price $35k. The other one is a 2001 525i, sport and prem packages, silver with black, 17,000 miles. Asking price $37k. Both are automatics. What would be fair prices on these for him at retail?
In 2000, BMW only had two engine levels in the US in the 5-series: 528 and 540. 2001 saw the debut of the 525, the 530, and the return of the 540.
The 528 is noticeably more powerful than the 525, so if really is a 2000, it's almost certainly a 528 and the extra power might be a buying decisionmaker for him. Plus, the 2000's had "rest" heat (it will keep the interior of the car warm for up to 15 minutes while the car is off and parked).
My wife has a 2000 528i and it's been a great car for us.
I have had my Mustang Bullitt for two weeks now. Today someone ran a red light and I t-boned him. Then he left the scene before anyone could get his license plate. :-(
But, I love my Bullitt and I highly recommend that you get one. If you go to www.bullittclub.com there is someone who has already bought a used Bullitt. They are out there if you look hard enough.
540i? Not a bad price really. Mehtinks it a $38-39Kish car at the sale, but that's shooting from the hip at the moment.
Liberty? I'd give it a couple months yet if I were you and grab a used one. I'm already seeing em at the auctions. Saw a 3K mile one today that the local Lexus dealer had consigned. Loaded, 3K miles, butBrown (puke).
Bullitt Mustangs? not that I noticed but I'm sure they are out there.

Asking price $35k. The other one is a 2001 525i, sport and prem packages, silver with black, 17,000 miles. Asking price $37k. Both are automatics. What would be fair prices on these for him at retail?
Thanks guys!!
Both of those seem like really good prices to me.
Assuming that the 2000 is a 528i Premium and clean... $35K is a good retail price. Itd' do.. Hmm.. $32-33K at an auction...
Same spread on the 2001 525ia as well.
They both seem like good deals to me...

2000 BMW 540i, 6 speed, 17" M-style wheels, 10K miles, graphite gray with black leather. Looked damn good to me. Asking $41,995.
What are they doing at auction?
Also, could not believe they had 3 Boxster's on the lot.
And $1000 off sticker on '02 PT Cruisers. And $6000 off '01 Town & Country Limiteds.
Are ya seeing any Ford "Bullitt" Mustangs going thru the auctions? Prices?
I want one so bad my teeth hurt.

But, I love my Bullitt and I highly recommend that you get one. If you go to www.bullittclub.com there is someone who has already bought a used Bullitt. They are out there if you look hard enough.
