You OK?
If so, how bad is the car?
He said that the initial price was $36,750, but the guy said his bottom price would be $35,500 after a little negotiating. He is doing a Carfax on it tomorrow.
Thanks again guys!!
The $6,000 on the TC's is with the rebate .. 01 TC Limited's 10/12K..like new types, are doing around $23ish and the Boxster's are all over the place, I probably see 2/3 a week -- wonderful vehicles, but you have to have "the" buyer for them..plus Audi is breathing down their neck.
Terry.
I was at Ocoee yesterday... Surprise surprise surprise...
I actually snagged a 97 Jetta GT, no paint, handshaker..etc... But immaculate. Needs $100 at the dent wiz and ready to go out front.

I hope this helps..

IF, the vehicle is "all there" .... all the books and records, knee deep in rubber and xtra nice, no "plastic fantastic" in the paint, and needs -0- you are probably are looking "in and around" 5/$6,000 -- these are sometimes hard to hit, without an eyeball on them -- MB buyers will buy a high mile vehicle like this, if it's purrrfect ... on the retail side you can be looking at $8/$9,000 ....
-- What do ya' think Bill ...?
Terry.
Terry.
BTW, I did shop the Jetta and have one offer of $15,000 and another of $15,500, both those places thought the guy who low-balled it at $13,500 was nuts.
$12,500? Huh?
Geez.. I can't see $12,500 or even $10K wholesale for that car. I also dont see $12,500 retail for it!
Miles hurt these guys a lot. Even though an MB can run forever almost... For them to break the bank, they have to have low mileage, be free of accident history, etc.. Service records (Especially as they age) are crucial, Color is also critical.
$12,500 buys me a 1993 300E Sedan in a good color with very low miles and in awesome shape.
OK, I've bought 2 1993 300Es recently (Since August).
1) Smoke Silver/Parchment. Flawless. 58K miles. I got that for $11K.
2) Midnight Blue (Weak Color) with Light Grey interior. 110K on it. Very clean. I bought that for $6,500ish
So, I think Terry may be a bit low here (No offense) And I happen to be a MB Buyer (Gee, wish you were in Orlando, me and my checkbook would love to say Hi if the car is clean!)..
Depends on the color if you ask me. I assume Leather Not Tex, Cold AC, Everything works, paint is nice, no paintwork, no damage... Right?
Say you did well and got it in smoke Silver... I'd go $7,000 on it myself. Say you went Midnite Blue, That Reddish Burgandy color, Desert Taupe, or Green or something.. $5,500-6K.
There's a lot of variables out there on these puppies.
Bill
Buy it in Portland and ship it home!
I'm with Terry, those are mighty high prices!
Bill
46K with Books and recs.
Bill
1) A "asking" price
2) A "liking" price
3) A "taking" price
You can ask whatever price you like, it's your dime, your vehicle. A liking price is a number, we all put in our head and think "I would love to get X, and I would be a happy camper --- and then there is the taking price that most people forget about, til it's time to actually sell it .. and sometimes that's the most important price, a reality price.
I follow the Ad's in every area I'm in -closely- .. (7 papers delivered to my house) and I follow the prices, how long and the types of vehicles that run in these papers .. and I probably call 20 a week, because I buy a lot of vehicles on the private side, every month. So yes I agree that, in Chi-town they "ask" $$$, In Philly they "ask" $$$, and in Jacksonville they "ask" $$$ -- but, the reality is, the vast majority "takes" $$.
My goofy neighbor down the street .. (and he will read this .. Hey, where's my Polaris for my pool ..? ... l...o...l..) ... has his 95 Eddie Bauer 4x4 Explorer up for sale, it looks new, runs new.. except for the front clip thats been replaced and has 121,000K could pass for a 2000 -- has had it for sale for $10,500 for 5 weeks and wonders why he has had only 1 call and 10 people drive by and then wave ..goodbye ... ... Like I said before , there are 3 prices when you sell a vehicle .....
Maybe this makes sense ....
Terry.
What do you think? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Terry.
$10,500? =O Hmm.. Methinks $5K WS and like.. put it in the paper for $7,900!
rh: I think the Malibu ought to pull around $5,300-500 or so. Real money. $4K seems light to me. Who said $7,300? VMR? Sheesh...
Bill
You like it a little more than I but I agree..
Bill
The V6 is the saviour on the Malibu, the 4's drop it 7/8/$900 ... they are cold..real cold.

Original Owner. Looking to trade in at a Michigan Auto Dealer.
Can you tell me what the market looks like for this vehicle?
Is this type of vehicle hard to trade in at this time?
I've had a few people tell me the market for them is much better in the US than here in the Great White North. Thanks.
Remember, you can "ask" anything you want --- This may make a little more sense to you, scroll up to #3428 ....
I hope this helps ....
Terry.
SVT's ...Hmmmmm, these are "quaint" little critters, kinda like "baby" SHO's ... and they are still popular, a strange group of people like em' ...l...o...l...
It's the right color, and it has "no miles" ... having a slider would help it a lot. I really can't "speak" for the NW ... and in CA, all the prices are different (whacky) --- but, I will bet this vehicle can snatch $12,000+ to the right buyer ....
Maybe this helps....
Terry.
It's the right color and it's all "toyed up" ... the 4.0 and Scab will help it a lot. Sounds like you have taken care of it, and it's clean with no miles -- a dealer will lookin' at this at around the $10ish figure .... a lot of pickups are sold in MI..ever drive through Lansing ..? And the farther North you go, the more there is ..
Terry.
I live near Lansing and took it to a Lansing Dealer and
they were only going to give me 6,800 in trade. They said
the market was "soft" right now, it wasn't 4 wheel drive, we
were going into winter and that is all they could go. I just
wanted to confirm the trade value of my vehicle in case the market
was bad for my trade right now.
I would have taken 9,000 but 6,800 for a vehicle that should be
worth 10,000ish no way. Planning on checking Detroit, Grand Rapids,
and Kalamazoo area.
I was at the Detroit auction 5 times in the last 60 days .. and I have partners, that are there every Thursday -- the guys at Classic in Grand Rapids are friends of mine, and I'm at least, 6 auctions a month from Detroit to Philly, and that doesn't count the FL time --- Sooooo, I kinda get an idea of whats going on......maybe -- l....o....l..... Also kinda keep in mind, when I do give an "appraisal" so to speak, I don't view the vehicle, like I do at auctions. I don't have a chance to "feel, touch or smell the merchandise". I'm kinda' taking the word of the person at this forum ... also keep in mind, a great way to pick up 3/4/$500+ on a dealer trade-in is, "detail" the vehicle before it is shown ...
But anyway, depending on the dealer, they probably "low balled" you .... they are right, the market is a little soft -- special rates, 0 down, great leasing programs ..etc, etc .. but that dealer is paying "around" $6,000 for a clean, low mileage XLT - Reg Cab -, with no toys ... So, take your time and shop around.. and you will see that $9+ ....
I hope this helps...
Terry.
before taking it in. Some may say it doesn't matter but I
think it shows you cared about the vehicle and took care of it.
The truck is clean believe me. I was not even including the Penda bedliner
and the Extang tonneau cover because they were not dealer installed.
I thought they were low balling but did not know for sure if the value of my trade
was down because of the economy.
I will continue to shop and hope to be successful in the Detroit market area.
Thanks again Terry!
Friend is also trading in hi 86 Accord DX(yike!!) with 125,000 miles & he is been given $400 as real money on that !
Please let us know if this is a good deal !
On the 1986 Accord...
If it runs well and doesnt look like junk..
$1900/best cash offer in your local Paper.
Bill
Me? I'd try to retail it.. but then if you trade it.. No headaches...
Cost/Benefit analysis here...
Bill
The dealership is asking $14,900, claiming they are using KBB numbers. I checked the black book, at super clean condition (excellent) should retail for $11,875. Average (good condition) should retail for $9500. So I adviced my friend to offer $12,000 OTD in cash.
Is this right ? too much, or too little ? And what is the right price for this vehicle. Located in So Cal.
Thanks for your help
.... and "bang", down goes the appraisel by 3/5/$700+ depending on the vehicle ... -- remember that commercial on TV .. Wax on..Wax off ..l....o....l...
Terry.
It's a 97 right ..? .... it's a Plymouth Voy GC...right...? With 60 Klicks right ...?
----- Unless the market as shifted 180 degree's since yesterday, it's worth in and around $7,500ish (reaL money) --- A strong retail "asking" price would be $9,999 .... I'm sorry, Am I missing something here ...?
Terry.
To make it interesting, I had her issue the check and leave the name blank. She handed the check to the sales guy and said, "put your dealership name on it, or I am walking".... Thank God she didn't cave in to the hard-balling they had on her. There was very little I could do about it, it ain't my money and it ain't my kinda car..... But I was there to help and lend support.
I think she is out there looking tonite. Hope she finds something. She is dead set on buying a Dodge or Plymouth Grand Caravan. That is what she wants, and that is what she intends to get. My job is to help her get the best deal she can, since she's got cold, hard CA$$ to boot.
Anyways, I will print your response for her to let her see where she should be in terms of price and the OTD cost.
Thanks, as always, Terry.
Did you say 97 with 60K or 99 with 6K?
