Thanks for the reply. I was told by the dealer it would be 17K to 21K depending on the condition of the vehicle. So, your 18k is in line with that. I was, of course, hoping that they were trying to pull a fast one and it would be worth more like $24k on a trade-in....

Well, I think yer nuts, too. ;)

If you think a volvo is uncomfortable, I'm afraid there is little hope for you. ;P

But, seriously, I understand your comment about the right arm. I got spoiled by the armrest on our Pacifica. But the seat cushions in the volvo are definitely superior.

My daughter is serving in military in Germany and wants to buy a BMW and have it shipped back here to the states as a used car with just over 500 miles on it. She will be stationed in Alabama, but her state of residence will be Florida as that is her home of record. Does she have to pay sales tax and who does she pay it to Florida or Alabama. I am thinking the state that she registers car in right. Thank you. And will it be on used car value or fair market value-and what would be fair market value of a BMW 300 series sedan approximately? Thank you.

    Hi,
Looking for trade-in on my old Jeep Grand Cherokee. Understand it probably won't yeld much wouldn't want to give it up for free.

    Location: Near Boston
    Year/Make/Model: '96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8
    Body Style: Wagon
    Engine: 5.2 litre V8 Auto
    Driveline: AWD
    Mileage: 159,900
    Color: Black w/grey leather interior

    TIA

She would pay the tax, if any to the state that she is registering the car in.
If she does pay tax, it would be on the purchase price of the car.

Best bet is to contact a BMW dealer in Alabama that is familiar w/ BMW's military sales program and ask them for advice.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
You probably have a $3-4,000 car on a trade.
    Maybe $5-6000 private party.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    $500 car.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Sounds about right to me.

I just sold a 2002 Legacy for $8000 but it had a lot less mileage.

The dealer had offered me only $5300. No thanks!

Private Party sell that bad boy, ask $5875/obo. The 8-7-5 thing works - the numbers keep dropping so the price seems lower than it is.

Wow, that's a lot of miles for a 2008, hmmmm, a high mileage gas guzzling GM SUV, I can't wait to see what the experts say on this one, hope you're sitting down when you read it.

If there is a full-size SUV that is still holding some value, I bet it's the Acadia...

8 passenger seating in a big crossover, with better mileage than a Tahoe... It might surprise us..

I mean... I have no idea, but I'm interested to find out..

    Hard to say.
Not a lot of high mile examples out there.
I'm gonna say between $23-25,000 trade in.
    Prob $2-3,000 more private party.
Although, it gonna be really hard to private sell this truck.
You will be competing w/ the low financing and incentives on a new one.

That was probably a low-to-mid $30s truck new, so we're talking about a $10,000 hit for the trade. To be fair it is a lot of miles, he used up most of the B2B warranty.

I see that on alot of ads.
And, frankly, I immediately think of my sister and say "oh, hell no do I want that car!"

Female owned can usually go two ways. In my sister's case, she did every thing the dealer told her to even if it was years early. The truck is really in good mechanical condition.

Yeah, I beat the living daylights out of my vehicles, so female-owned would NOT be a selling point for my car.

Well, that might explain the bid she got. :P
  • gsemikegsemike Member Posts: 2,412
Personally, I wouldn't prefer a female owned car to any other but I do see it in ads so I mentioned it
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
That might appeal to me as well.

I bought my Miata from a school teacher. It had really low miles, too.

It was the proverbial "old lady's car driven to church on Sundays".

It's been great for 7+ years.

I think the idea behind putting that in an advertisements is to convey a few things:

    * it was not abused
    * it's less likely to be modified
    * women drive fewer miles per year than men (9k vs. 16k per one study I read)

Whether those are true or not for any particular car, who knows?
  • mattgg1mattgg1 Member Posts: 191
This isn't exactly the proper format for this forum, but I was hoping to get some quick advice for a friend...

Which do you think is a better deal??

    2008 Buick Enclave – 30,000 miles
    2007 GMC Acadia – 12,000 miles

Same price, same warranty, Enclave has a few more “posh” features than the Acadia, but otherwise set up exactly the same and the same color - silver.

This is all of the information I have. My gut says the 2007, but I'd like to see what others think.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
07 was a first-year model, though, and they did make a couple of improvements.

I would at least go over it very closely before buying.

Actually, there was no '07 Enclave, I think... They just introduced it a little later, and gave it the '08 designation.... I don't think it is any different than the '07 Acadia, as far as newer model updates, though it may come with some items standard that the Acadia doesn't..

I'd rather have the lower mile Acadia, but then again, I don't like the guppy grille look of the Enclave...

My ex is so freaked out by any possibility of a breakdown, she takes her Volvos to the dealer like clockwork for maintenence; like you say, "she does every thing the dealer tells her to".

But a lot of guys are super fastidious about maintenence too; like some of the bmw club guys who go bonkers taking care of their "babies".

Here's another theory: "gay owned". I'm thinking, probably very fastidious with taking care of the vehicles, like an old LR Disco I I looked at once. (That's a compliment, right, not politically incorrect)?

Great condition overall. Exterior/Interior no visible wear or tear. Mostly driven for pleasure.
    Brand New Tires
    Good Brakes
Maintenance has been on point too.

We are considering a trade in for a 08 Highlander Sport, possibly a lease. We currently owe about $17,000 on this car though and are a little hesitant about making this deal. Haven't taken it to dealer yet.

    I appreciate any feedback.

We are considering trading in a 2000 LX 470 with 79,000 miles on a new 2008 Toyota Landcruiser. The LC has a msrp of $71,339. It has nav, dvd, cool box, and about everything else you could think of. They will discount the LC by $12,000., down to $59,339. and then allow $15,000 on our trade for a net difference of $44,339. Doc fee of $299.

We like the LC and the way it drives and handles. I think this is a pretty good deal as this is not a demo and has a total of 25 miles on the clock. We put most of those on. I would appreciate all opinions. Thanks.

  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Well, the trade value is spot on.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Depending on how nice the LX is (and whether you get a sales tax credit on a trade), you might want to take a shot at selling it privately. They are very desirable vehicles to a certain niche and you might be able to easily net 2-3 grand more.
  • mherr05mherr05 Member Posts: 14
WOW....less than we thought. KBB was off by about $2k ( Good-$14k). Edmunds is around $13k

Sounds like we should just keep the car and pay it off. We are a little weary about "rolling" the difference into a lease anyway. As we probably should be. Doesnt make much sense to keep paying for a car we no longer have. Plus, my hubby has made extra payments so it will be paid off about 6mo sooner.

    Thanks

lx470 is a lexus? i would keep it. out of that 45k, i would allow 5k for maintenance/repairs. the leaves 35-40k for another ride.
you will look frugal driving driving a soon to be 10 year old lexus suv and you can have something else to drive the rest of the time.
i'm thinking the land cruiser value is going to drop like a rock after 2-3 years.
i do have a bit of the jipster in me. ;)
