    .......... Well, lets see here ... it's got 29klicks, and it's a "short box" SE, V6 --- real money, it's worth in and around the $11's ..

  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
    ..... It sounds like a nice one..right color and toy's ..

On a trade-in you are going to be in and around $29ish, especially on the philly area.

In my stupid opinion -- I would hang with the Audi ...

    .... A 95 ..huh.?

With 90 klicks .. It's clean right ...? 4 door..? ---- Needs nothing but a new owner..if it looks and runs like a 99 -- even with all the miles you are going to be in and around the "double nickel" numbers --

    I hope this helps ..

Wondering what I might see for a 1999 Sunfire Covertible (delivered in April of that year)with 32k miles. Auto with basically everything available for it (no real options, most everything came standard). White with a black top and in really good shape. Western Pa isn't the best place to get rid of a covertible this time of year buy oh well, I need a 4 door soon...
  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
I really don't know -- I have seen values ranging from $14K-19K listed at the various appraisal sites, but this is too much of a spread to make sense. I am looking for more solid info so I can make the decision to trade or sell. I plan on upgrading to an LL Bean model Outback wagon.

..... Ok this is only an estimate ... So remember, there is no refunds here ..--- ..l..o..l..

Ok -- lets see what we can find here, ooops, it's a handshaker, no help there. Well the miles are good ..so that a yes, we get some help there..

Now the big question is, is it a Legacy or a Impreza ..? Well since my crystal ball is in the shop --- I will have to guess (real money) --- if it's a Impreza it's "in and around" $13ish .... and if it's Legacy it going to be worth "in and around" $16ish .... Soooo there you go -----

Hey no charge, and thanks for stoppin' by...

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.....And it's a little deep in miles, so we are not getting any help from that department .. we have an automatic, so there is a jump start in the right direction ----

Sooooo, now it's in W.PA (probably Pittsburg--I hate the Steelers) that's a big deduct .....l...o...l.... actually any area north of the Mason/Dixon line is not good convert weather now and the dealers don't want to hang themselves til' April or so ....

But anyway, I'm thinkin' it's worth "in and around" a 9/$9500 figure ...

    I hope this helps....

    Terry.

..... Hey bud how are you ..?

Hey..! How many friends do you have ..? These Honda's are still strong in the market --- the miles are right, the color is right ... You said the condition is good ..like average ..? Ok lets go there .. tires are week on a average 98 38K Accord EX V6 ... the V6 carries the ball on the vehicle.

So I gotta say it's worth all of $16 ...

    I hope this helps...

    OK--one more question..............
Can I pick a car dealer, one I am not buying
from and offer to sell my car to them. I don't want to go the person to person route and think the trade estimates are about $1000 less than
    what most research shows.
Do dealers buy cars?? Could I get better money?
Thanks for answering all my dumb questions! I have found this site very helpful for females!!
You guys are kind and knowledgeable! Maureen

........ Well hon, if you want to knock yourself out --- go to it.

Dealers do buy vehicle's all the time .. but you kinda have to remember their veiw point might be a little different.

When I look at a deal that has just "gone down" ... I look at the vehicle that was just sold -- and the vehicle that was just traded..both sides. How much money did we make on the new vehicle ... and what is the "projected" profit on this new trade.

Sometimes, there is no money made on the new deal -- and the hope goes with the new trade-in.. Will it sell in a day, a week, a month or so ...? So there is alot of "ifs" all the way around.

But anyway, find the brands closest to you .. and try shopping your vehicle there ..

    Good luck...

    Also look inthe local paper/autotrader...

Are there any dealerships who seem to specialize in Used Hondas?

I know my biggest task is not selling cars per se... its' buying them.

This is owned by a friend, who has it in the newspaper for sale... at what I think is an unrealistic price. I'll post on the asking price after Bill & Terry give their input. :-)

    1999 Jeep Wrangler "Sport"
39K miles, gold ext/ grey int
    6 cyl, 5-spd, 4WD
Soft top, full hard doors (not half doors)

Reasonably clean condition, no dings, some light scratches.

    Location: Reno, Nevada

OK, what's that worth for trade-in, and for real-world private party sale ?

    Now, to add some confusion:

It's heavily modified (by the previous owner, not the friend):

    6" Skyjacker lift kit
33" Super Swamper tires, aftermarket aluminum wheels
    ARB locking rear differential

Now what's it worth ? (Trade-in, and real world retail sale.)

My thoughts: aftermarket add-ons don't add any value for trade or sale, and they may actually hurt... if the dealer or buyer thinks the vehicle was used hard, then it's worth less.

    Thanks!

....... I was just thinkin' what a nice vehicle it is .. or was, til I got to your last paragraph ...l...o...l...

    Well, for starters, the miles are a little stiff, that's not a biggie ..(air..?) ..It's a 4WD, that's a big help -- it's has the doors, that's a winner.

But, it has all the ... "No Sale stuff' on it. When this hit's the vehicle, it drops your market by about 97% ... what, no neons ...l...o...l..

It's worth in and around the $10's ...(real money) and might see $12's on the retail, with the right buyer ...

    Terry.

Terry likes this one more than I do. I figure it for 9K...

Personally.. I think it oughta go in the Auto Trader for $12,900 or best offer.

    Also, what about eBay?

Thanks, thats what I figured for a ragtop this time of year, but hoped for better.....I'm so far under mileage that I'll just keep it till the lease is up this spring. As for the Steeler comment......lol, yesterdays game was fun, but a tough drive home...

1995 GMC Suburban with 93,000 mile on it be worth? It is an SLT (leather) red with tan leather and the wheel wells have quarter size blisters on it. Needs a recon but the tires are knee deep. I called around and was getting numbers in the 6'S. btw THIS IS A 4WD. Upstate New York.

    350? 454? Diesel?

Assuming its' a 350.. it oughta pull closer to 7K.. but if it has rust blisters... you may be getting all the $$.

A clean big block oughta be closer to 8K methinks. But I think Terry knows these better than I.

due to family expansion, I'm looking to get a new VW Passat wagon. I hate to give up my fun, highline convertible Cabrio, but oh well...
for ease, I was looking to trade-in, but VW dealers don't seem willing to budge over $10K mark. I think it's worth more, even on a trade. (I have, however, landed a good deal on the new car at $500 over invoice)
    here are the details:
orig. owner, only 24K miles (!), very good condition, dark green, black cloth top, leather interior, and auto trans. plus, I'm in the South, so weather is still good for the top down! unlike Western PA ;)
    questions:
    (1) am I being treated unfairly for a dealer trade-in, esp. since they can VW certify it? and (2) what could/should I sell it for to a private party?

    thanks!

Hopefully I have been of some help here. And I will miss you all.

However, Jonah Brown has pretty much made it clear that myself and several others are not wanted here in Town Hall.

I think that I make a positive contribution here, but not everyone sees it that way.

So, as such, I am bidding this forum goodbye for the time being. I'll be around, but won't actively post any longer.

If you need me, I can be reached via e-mail at directautogroup@aol.com

    Take care guys!

    Bill,

You have been a great help to both myself when I traded my Jeep G.C. and several friends and family members. I enjoy reading yours and Terry's responses each day. What is the deal with you not posting anymore? Is this a "moderator's" problem?
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564

I live in Miami and I have a 2001 Jetta GLS 1.8T manual with 15,000 miles with the sport luxury package(sunroof, 16-in rims, sport suspension, heated seats, limited slip), 6-cd changer, leather seats, and the monsoon stereo. Most dealers keep offering me around $15,000 for trade in...in todays horrible used car market, is this a good deal?

....... These Jetta's are hot little vehicles, and based on what you are telling us ... it looks like you got all the money .. and a bag of Chips

It's a stick, so you get no help there --- but it certainly looks like the dealer is striving to get your business and then some ..

    Good Luck ...

  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Well let's see, it's the right color --- and Oh my goodness, it's one of new fangled machines, called a automatic tranny .. that's a big help ..

The miles are a big help .. it's got none ..l...o...l.."IF" this is clean -- no parking lot kisses, no Mcdonald invasions up to the roof (ya know, you can see your floor mats..l...o...l..) knee deep in rubber and of course, your a Southern Lady .. it's worth in and around $10ish .. maybe you might pry another "nick" out of them, but that's about it ... If you want to try the Retail end of it, you are looking "around" $12ish ....is the dealer being fair, yes and then some ..

    I hope this helps ...

    Terry.

...... Good morning ... how are you ...?

It's a 3/4 ton "fat daddy" SLT 4x4.. and it has the "un-breakable" 454 -- without being able to "eyeball" this monster, $6+, is a very real and strong figure .. even with all the klicks.

I have driven these all over the East Coast, towing 32/35ft offshore race boats, and never knew they where behind me -- these are great vehicles. So if the "rust" is all surface, and it runs like a top, that's a strong number ...the 4x4 package might get you into the $7's with the area and the change of weather --- these are easy retail units ... $9,999 in the paper, and "Bang" it will be gone (properly dressed) ...l...o...l...

....... It looks like you got "all the money" .... and a bag of chips.

    Take advantage of it ....

On that '97 Wrangler -- ouch -- that's even less than what I pegged it at.

Would it be worth more without the aftermarket stuff on it ?

    The seller's asking price: $25.5K/obo. :-o

    Thanks guys !

In general, I know blue book values are based on what sold at the auction on the month before but will a dealer ever buy at what kbb says it is worth? (Especially now in the days of 0% financing on new cars.)
  • frankrichardsfrankrichards Member Posts: 39
    Where's Bill?

I'm not sure about your KBB guess.... but the general rule of thumb for a dealer start a deal two grand back of whole sale book. And yes, when the used car manager and new car manger have a chit chat, the ACV's do change. They'll buy at wholesale book and higher (rarely, but it happens).
