found the link to the car (at Swope, right?) Gorgeous. If he passes, after hearing about the PPI, I should by the danged thing. ANd I sure as heck don't need a car like that right now. But, it would probably be worth the pain inflicted by SHMBO.

Hmm, wonder if I could avaoid a ticket on the drive from Ky. to NJ?

Anyway, my point really was, if you are close and want it that bad (and after reading about his growing hatred of the Mazda, it might qualify as a medical expense), just do it.

Hello all, I'm wondering what it takes to take home a 2006 Toyota Sienna from an independent dealer here in the bay area. There are lots of very similar cars around, but the asking prices are all over the map.

    Location: Bay Area, California
    Year/Make/Model:
    Body Style: Minivan
Engine: 3.5 liter automatic (the standard one)
    Driveline: FWD
    Mileage: Just under 50K
    Color: Silver
Major Options: Eight seats, power sliding door. premium Sound (No Disney)
    Condition: Pretty good.
Other: Indicate prior damage/insurance claims, repaints, etc. None.

    Thanks!
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Power sliding doors on one or both sides?

LE Package 3 had it, anything less did not (at least in 2007).

New, that was about a $25k van, for reference.
  • delthekingdeltheking Member Posts: 1,152
What are they asking for it?
  • gallileogallileo Member Posts: 51
No dual power sliding door. Just the right side.

For the particular one I'm looking at, they are asking ~$18,000, but there are literally dozens around, with asks anywhere from $15,000 (very dirty interior, probably clean up well though) to $22,000.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
So that was a package 1 or package 2. More like a $24k van when new.

Get power sliders on both sides, they're my favorite feature by far.

Price seems high to be honest.
  • delthekingdeltheking Member Posts: 1,152
Price is way too high. You can get an 08 Sienna LE with about 30k miles for around 18-19k. Check Ebay listings for more real world transaction values and then you will be able to get an estimate as to what these vans are selling for.. Keep us posted.. :shades:

I was involved in a highway speed accident with my Truck. (hoping for suggestions with post)
I have insurance and still waiting to see if my truck might be totaled.
    2005 F-150 FX4 32000 miles. 5.4 L Auto, 4WD, Crew Cab, Tow package, spray-in bed liner, cloth, red.

So far they body shop is estimating $11,000 to repair (and repair will take 26 working days) and saying the truck has a pre-accident appraised value of $20,500 (no way in my opinion) (They used year, options mileage and sales tax to compute).

Hit a guard rail head on (no airbags deployed) and side of truck hit another truck (who crashed in same spot 10 min prior, Icy bridges resulted in 6 accidents within 15 minutes and 1 fatality)

They are going to put truck on laser frame alignment type machine to check for frame damage in the morning.

My opinion is that I do not want my truck back with over $11,000 in repairs. I can take repair cash, satisfy loan and keep anything left for new car/truck. (or maybe they total it).

The body shop guy said, "have it repaired it will be worth more if you then sell it". I said great have your appraiser give me a quote that he will buy it for. Oh, he will not do that until it is repaired. (that gives me confidence)

If I do take cash, what is best way to sell the wreck? The engine, all glass are Ok as far as the body shop can tell.

Sorry for the long post but looking for advice. (Kansas City area)
    Thanks, Paul
  • explorerx4explorerx4 Member Posts: 20,722
are you thinking the 20.5k is too high or too low? too high i assume.
i would not take cash and buy it back.
there are too many pickup trucks around.
of course the body shop guy is going to tell you to repair it.
they get nothing if it is a total.
tell the insurance company you only want NEW oem replacement parts.

Yes, I assume that the $20,500 is too high.
Once I purchase this damaged truck, what is the best way to sell it? I have to imagine a 5.4 L engine with a good service history (and 32,000 miles) would be worth a bit.
Plus the interior parts, windows, driver side doors should be worth a bit.
    Any thoughts?

    Thanks, Paul

I guess in the spirit of this forum:

    2005 Ford F-150 4X4 Crew Cab. 5.4 L Auto.

32,000 miles, tow package, cloth seats with multi CD player.

Repaired damage of $12,000 by Ford Dealer Body shop.

    Kansas City area.

What is this red truck worth?

    Thanks,

Sooo... was it in an accident or not? And what happened in the accident (if it had one) that constituted a new engine?

When trading it in, no, you don't need to disclose anything. They will very likely figure it out without your assistance. BUT, if the carfax shows accident without the details, you may be better served letting them know exactly what happened.

Also, "tires pertain to mileage," is not a good description. You could drive the thing at the track and go through the tires in 20 miles.

Oh sorry-I hit an animal that was already dead in the road in the dark. Basically drained out my radiator & oil without the warning lights coming on for quite some time. Value?? Diminished value?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Definitely. 2 fluids leaked out, that's a pretty serious accident.

No offense, but I wouldn't buy that car even with a discount.
  • steine13steine13 Member Posts: 2,825
I went through this a half dozen years ago. The regulars have heard this story before, but I couln't find it.

'98 Sienna, 90k miles, value about $8 in 2003. $6,500 body shop estimate following a deer hit including some frame damage. Ins Co wouldn't total it.

I went online and looked up "salvage auctions" in the area. called a couple of them and asked for help; who buys that sort of thing, can you please put the word out; here's my contact information. do you haven any names or numbers for me to get in touch with?

That worked, a guy from 30 miles away came with a truck and bought the wreck. local body shop was going to give me $800; this guy offered $1,500.. i bumped him up another $100 just for sport, and we had a deal. That Sienna is still running around Grand Rapids, MI today and until recently, had a clean carfax. It finally did catch up with the car, so whoever bought it once it was fixed got it coming and going.

So after the deductible and a $20 check to the guy at the auction as a tip, I figured I got out of the whole thing fairly reasonably.

    Good luck,
    -Mathias
  • woodywwwoodyww Member Posts: 1,806
Does this show up on carfax? Even if not, anyone who gets the service records will know about the new engine, but some dealers or buyers might just check the carfax.

Do you have to sell it? Sounds like you must have spent a ton with all the nice options......

Thanks for the reply. Still waiting on the body shop to uploaed their estimate to my insurance carrier.

    Hello All!

I was wondering when you all think I should trade in my car.
    2008 Pontiac G6 sedan
    4cyl
    leather
    htd seats
    cd changer
    roof

    Current miles: 25,300
    Lease start date: 4/29/08
    Lease turn in date:7/11/2011
    39mth lease
Typically drive 1,000miles per month or so, but took 2 trips so far to florida.

I am thinking either way in the Spring that I should trade, because the miles will only begin to hurt me. Going over on a GM is not a good thing.

By Spring, I will already be around 30,000miles or so.

Any advice is appreciated. I think I am slowly getting to the point where I can look to get out.

I would guess around July of 2011. I have almost the same exact car, with around 12,000 miles, and the wholesale trade-in value on it is around $10k.

you should trade in your car when the contract says.
you should thank your lucky stars that GM, and not you, owns this gem.

not that the g6 is that bad, it's just that their value really has tanked. so better they should be stuck with it than you.

with that out of the way, that leaves the over-mileage charge. how much is it?

if it's 10 cents, again give thanks. driving ain't gonna get cheaper, ever. If it's 15 cents, not bad, stick with it. If it's 20 cents, that's gonna leave a mark... but at 15,000 miles over, that's still only $3k to get out of the car. That'll be way cheaper then getting out now.

only if the mileage charge is much worse should you do something else... and I'm thinking, "something" may come in the form of a 2005 Taurus that you flat-out buy for $5k or so and mile up.

don't return it early. The numbers won't be in your favor.
    be glad you leased.

    Cheers -Mathias
  • bvdj84bvdj84 Member Posts: 1,724
I am allowed 12,000 miles a year, but with a lease of 39mths, that should be exactly the amount. 39,000 miles. I think it is around 10cents. I see your points. But, I do think I will see what the market is like in the Spring. My dealer might be able to help me out. If not, then I'll wait. They know that I want out. By then I'll be 2yrs into the lease, over the hump. Not a big deal. I am so thankful that I don't own the car.
Surely, my pay off will be low enough for something then.

I just don't see myself having this car until 2011. I will at some point trade in. Either take a hit for mileage later or take a negative value later. I can weigh out both options. Predicted overage or trade in upside down. Get out now or later. I will try in the spring.

Good Points though, waiting til then really wouldn't be too bad. $3,000 upside down equals to about $75 or so added to the new payment..so...hmmmm...
I don't know. I am bound to see some light right? I think I will be quite a bit over my miles when I am done in 2011, so that will be a point where trading early would be better. I'll already be at 30k, by spring. meaning 9,000miles left to get to July 2011. Not going to happen.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I wouldn't roll negative equity in to the new loan, you'll remain upside down. And what if you regret getting the next car?

At least save up enough to buy yourself out of the deal.

At 15,000 overage, with 15 months left, put $200 a month aside to pay the fee. Do you really want to be making payments in 2016 on miles you drove in 2009???

Yeah, that is going to take some finesse.

This strikes me as an excellent ebay candidate. This is not a car that a lot of people are going to want... but it's old enough to be significantly cheaper than a new one, and the few yahoos who'll want it -- no offense, stickguy -- will want it really badly.

This is one of those cars that can have a $4k spread between trade-in and retail.

    Good luck,

  • blueiedgodblueiedgod Member Posts: 2,798
Well, that is what puzzles me. I checked classifieds, autotrader, and Edmunds' own used car evaluation tool, and many of the prices are not far off what I paid for it in 2005. And I find it strange that someone would be willing to pay $15,000-$16,000 for a 5 year old vehicle that I bought for $20,000.
  • blueiedgodblueiedgod Member Posts: 2,798
I believe statistics from Honda say that there were 3-5% of Manual Gen 2.5 CR-V's sold in the US.

Of course, I have been adding stuff to it too.

I forgot to mention that I added heated outside mirrors and a self dimming interior mirror.

If I don't find a replacement, has to be stick, has to have cargo capacity to carry stuff from Lowes/Home Depot, and AWD/4WD. Although, I am willing to forego AWD/4WD in favor of a diesel.
  • jayriderjayrider Member Posts: 3,602
You would have to get current auction prices to see what it is really worth. Ad prices don't tell the whole story. Used car prices are up a lot and there is a mindset that some folks have on hondas that keeps prices even higher. I wouldn't pay 15-16k for a 5 year old crv.
  • woodywwwoodyww Member Posts: 1,806
Just trying to see if it is worth keeping or selling, trade-in or private party

Well, it's worth keeping, sounds like you must love it from your description, all the extra maintenence, etc. But I'll 2nd the advice to put it on ebay, or wherever, to sell privately, if you want to sell. Your description of all the extra goodies, the maintenence, the stick, the 30K miles (!) should get you more private party than trade-in. Dealers may not even consider all that; might even offer less with the stick, maybe.....

    Hi everyone,

I have a 2004 Saab 9-3 Arc Convertible - black with 42400 miles - it is a 5 spd manual and has front and rear fog lights (that work) - I think all this was standard.

Its a great car, looks great. I am selling it because we just moved to Ca so I commute by train and we need only 1 car. This one will just lose value on the side of the road.

Car drives perfectly - no mechanical or electrical problems
Interior is in great condition. Some normal wear and tear like a small scratch or two
Exterior is in great condition - there are 3 small dents due to a hail storm

    Couple of questions -
    * What should a dealer give in 'trade in'? I asked 2 dealers and they told me that the car is out of warranty so Ill get the auction price. At auction the car is going for $5000 - $7000 !!
    * Do prices differ significantly by season? Is the depressed value because its winter and noone wants a convertible (even in Ca)?
    * Is there any place I can see historical auction/trade in prices (preferably whats actually given)? Ebay has a great feature that allows you to see closed auction prices in last 90 days but im hoping for somemore info than that.

Beautiful cars. Its sad what has happened to Saab.

Sounds as if you replaced the OEM head unit. What did you buy?
  • jayriderjayrider Member Posts: 3,602
Since you live in california--no issue with winter.make sure it passes emission test. I would advertise it at full retail -- if dealer offers 7k auction figure at least 10k.KBB for sf area says 12-13k private party sale. Don't know if that's accurate. That is still cheap for a nice saab convertible in ca. Lots folks appreciate them on the left coast. Give yourself 2 months or so to get an offer. Good luck.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
5k seems ridiculously low. I'd buy it and I already have a convertible!
  • strikemanstrikeman Member Posts: 18
Thanks for replies. The auction price is ridiculous. I was wondering if the auction prices for Saab convertibles see a significant bump in Spring/Summer. For 5k Id hold onto it but Im willing to talk to anyone who wants to buy around the Edmunds TMV or KBB value.

I got pics I am putting up. Its a great car ...
