    That's my market...

An M35X... Assuming a nice car, good color (Not gold, green, light blue) and CPO'd Assume $32kish transaction price on an average color car (Silver, Grey, dark blue) and perhaps $33k on a Pearl White or Black/Black car.

That's for one with miles in the mid 20s with Nav and Advance Tech.

    Maxima? Well.....

    SE? GXE? GLE?

    Roof? Leather? Any accidents?

Need more info... as a wild guess anywhere from $1,500-3k depending...

    Sorry

GXE model, spoiler, cd changer, cloth interior, no sunroof.

What would be the price for the 2008 M35x non CPO'd?

Brentwood, you say that is your market, if you are in NY pm or email me.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Ahhh now that helps!

Galves is $2,500 on the car with those miles... depending on condition, color, etc.. figure $2k-2,500 on trade.

Non CPO'd? Probably about $30,500-31k for a nice one. Be VERY careful buying a car like this on price alone. There's plenty of independent dealers who sell edgy cars for short money.

Make sure it's got a clean Carfax and, also, make sure that it hasn't been hit. Plenty of lousy cars are out there with clean carfaxes.

I don't solicit business off of the boards, but I don't really deal in stuff like this anymore.. I'm the used car manager at a Hyundai store in Jersey.

Be happy to help ya look over a deal if you see one tho. The figures I gave you are target prices.

Hi! First time posting, new member looking for advice.

Been trying to sell our 2002 Ford Expedition at $5499, no bites. Are we pricing it too high?

It's 172k miles, all regular maintenance done. Its white with tan leather interior, sunroof, limited shift differential, all bells and whistles, Eddie Bauer trim.

Has new tires, rated at 50k, hoped it would be a plus when selling.

Asking price is around the "private party" value for good condition, and its less than what the bank will loan on it. Any suggestions for price we should be asking to sell, to private party? Need to unload it, the gas is killing us, now that all the teenagers are driving, we feel stupid driving this big gas guzzler when its just 1 or 2 of us.

Thanks Bill, that helps a lot. I have no intention of buying from a non-reputable dealer.

By the way, can you let me know what the cost of the same 2008 M35x without the advanced tech would cost, CPO and non CPO?

    Thanks again
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
OK, Bill, now I'm not looking at one of these but I gotta hear this one.

I was looking at a death of Saab article and, of course, they bring up the ill-fated (even for Saab) Saabaru. For giggles I look it up on autotrader and they've got people asking $14K for an 04 - that's 7 years old! What are they really worth? I would think this would be about the most unsellable car on a dealer's lot.

Actually I wouldn't mind it - it's an Imprezza with a nicer skin.

Looking to get an idea what a fair trade in would be on the vehicle. I'm considering an Acura or an Infiniti - not sure of where I trade it in effects value.

Is it 4x4? Where are you located? How are you advertising it? The price seems reasonable to me (without checking behind you). Have you had any calls?

    My own research gives:
    Galve's - $32725
    Edmund's - $34638
    KBB - $33700

    Average - $33678

Actually I wouldn't mind it - it's an Imprezza with a nicer skin.

Plus Saab included 2 years' free maintenance, so it was dealer-serviced.

On top of that, there's a good chance the Saab would be less likely to have been abused. Search for "AWD burnout" on YouTube and you'll see what I mean.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Ahh... I don't think that advance tech makes a HUGE difference.. probably 1500-2k less without Navi.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Where are you located?

    And is it a 4X4?

Also.. it has 172k miles... See, everything has a value, but lots of people shy away from cars with miles THAT high.. I recently had an absolutely gorgeous, one owner 4Runner come in on trade... a 2005 Limited with Navi, 150k miles. And it was literally as clean as a mint 30k mile truck.

Even at $11,995 nobody wanted it.

It's probably a $27-2800 truck on trade if it's a 4X4 here in the NYC area, so if it were mine I'd ask $4900/bo and take $4300+

Galves is $30,625 trade-in. You can add $600 if it's got 19" wheels.

Galves Market ready is the $32k # that you mentioned... looking at auction reports, that's probably not a realistic number.

It's probably $30,500-31k... they really aren't sailing out of the book at auction..

    $14k for a 2004 Saabaru?

The first year for em was 2005... But I took a peek and, sure enough, a couple of low mile Aeros did recently bring $9-10k at auction so $14k retail certainly does make sense.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Funny thing is, they didn't sell well when they were new. I remember at one point they bottomed out at around $19k, new.

To get $14k for one 6-7 years later would be simply amazing. Of course that's retail, not trade-in.
  • logan00logan00 Member Posts: 13
Sorry Bill, what I meant was what would be the cost with just the tech package as opposed to the advanced tech package, CPO?

Also, how much should the price change if the miles increase to 34,000 with the tech package CPO?

I am planning to go shopping this weekend so all of your help is appreciated.

    Thanks

I remember right at the end of the last model year, they had some pretty massive discounts.. want to say $9K-$10K off sticker, but it escapes me, right now...

They only sold, what, maybe 11K of them total?

Actually for a Saab model that's not awful.....

I remember when the reports were that the discounts were huge. I actually stopped at the dealer, since I liked it a whole lot more than the Sube version (pretty sure that moonroof option was a big issue!)

but alas, they had none (or nothing vaguely suitable) so I left empty handed.

The other car I almost did this with? Bread wagon Civic Si (probably would have been a 2004? whatever the last year of that style was). Supposed to be crazy discounts (19K sticker for 14K? something like that) and a dealer not too far away had a leftover silver one. Should have gone after it.

I was eligible for employee pricing on the Saab at the time.. minus the big rebates... when I checked, only base models available, and I wanted the WRX-esque turbo..

Those bread wagons would have been a great buy.. .sort of a cult classic, now.. I wouldn't mind having one, if not for the insurance... (17 yr old).

Last time I saw an ad for one of those 9-2X's, they were asking big money for it. Of course, this is New England.
IMO, the SAAB'ing up styling worked pretty well.

I did like the look of them. Probably 75% of them were sold in New England - the only place where Subarus and Saabs are as common as Fords and Chevies.......

Subarus were all over the place when I was in Colorado last month. Saabs weren't as popular. I saw a ton of RAV4s, many of them with the V6, which is a rare option here near sea level.

    Thanks Bill!

That assumes the car is going to be auctioned.....correct? If I was trading this in to another Acura dealer who could CPO the car should I expect a better offer? There are CPO 2010 TL's being sold by dealers in my area for $37K.

Think the last year was a 2005...I bought their 5 lug alloys online on Ebay and the seller said they were from a 2005. Made my '06 Civic look very sharp and they still bring a smile to my face everyday! Wife thinks...and thought I was nuts as we still have the steelies & bolt on covers in the garage but if something goes wrong, I've still got a rim that fits until I get a new one.

I won't be much help with the price, but I would just caution you that that was the first year for the redesigned S40, so there were some electrical gremlins that caused people some headaches. I'd recommend trying to find an '06 or later.

Possibly... but I wouldn't expect $32k on trade for it anywhere.

I'd expect that if dealers are buying cars like this for $30-31k, that $37k is a CPO asking price and that $35k will likely buy one if you shop hard enough.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
30k on the brakes means it'll need new ones soon.

$11k is what I'd tell you to shoot for if it was yours, and take $10,400 or better.

Offer $10k, shoot for mid 10s. Trade in is $7500/8k but theyre doing more at auction...

Regarding the '10 Corolla base model with 4k miles and mild demolition derby action on the front corners...

The owner took it to the dealer he bought it from + the local Honda dealer; was offered $9,5 by the latter and $10 by the former, and it looks like the car will change hands for $11 to a colleague.

I suspect if the owner weren't so obviously foreign and un-wordly, the offers would have been $500 to $1k higher.. anyway, thanks for the help, and all's well that ends well.

    Cheers -Mathias

Six months ago, we downsized from a Toyota 4Runner to a 2011 Volvo C30 which we have really enjoyed. However, our seven-year-old son gets carsick in the back seat due to the lower viewing profile. He doesn't like sitting so low, can't see the horizon line, doesn't have a window to roll down for fresh air and has literally vomited on more than one occasion. It's not pretty.

I'm considering trading the car back to the dealership for another make with a higher seating configuration but am concerned about that process. Any suggestions on how to proceed with a trade-in and what we should expect to lose? We paid $30K for the vehicle, with $6K down.

    Thank you.

Have you tried putting him in a booster seat so he can see out? I would try that first.
  • Sandman6472Sandman6472 Member Posts: 7,218
I know when I was looking for a new/used S40 a couple of years back, my mechanic strongly advised me to not buy one due to the "electrical gremlins" and the high price of parts...decided not to buy. Also, the great seats Volvo is known for weren't in the S40 so decided to pass. Drove a Sonata with the power seat option and it was worlds better for my spinal issues.

Wish you luck with your decision but in the end, am glad I listened to my mechanic and passed over the S40. And we have a car with the same body, a Mazda3, which has been very reliable so far.

I am interested in just selling my car to a local dealer in the Phoenix area, and am curious what it might be worth. KBB says $5,600.00 as a trade in. Is that a reasonable number? Car details are:

    51K Miles
    White / Grey interior
3.4 Liter V6, FWD drive train
Already had the intake manifold replaced
    Fresh Tires
    runs and looks very great.
There is a light rubbing sound when applying the brakes. Had the rear calipers rebuilt 2 years ago and the brake shoes were replaced then. Not sure about the noise but that is the only issue with the car.
    Windshield is pitted.
    Paint and interior look great.

    Thanks

I am no expert on this, but owning a 2011 C30 myself, I can tell you that the 2012's are now out in full force on dealer lots. My guess is that you are going to take a pretty huge hit on this. I myself would expect to lose the $6k downpayment.

I agree, try a booster seat and adjusting airflow to the rear seating area.

Hi All- After about 5 months of ownership. Decided my GMC Terrain is not for me. Was sold on the unfortunate short drive I did during my test drive. But after a 3k road trip and living with it as a daily driver. Just doesn't fit my needs or wants.

    Well..

Best bet is to shop it to a few used car lots who sell cars like this, but the truth is, I can't see this being a $5600 Van unless it's a retail price.

Sounds like $3,500 to me.. MAYBE $4k on a stretch. However you might find a car lot who can use it, Ventures are kind of soft however.

Doubt that would buy it actually.. they're doing darn close to that at auction right now.

The key with the $29,800# on a new one is "if they had any" hence why the used ones are selling for what they are.
