1995 Mazda Miata M-edition. 82,151 mi. Clean Carfax. 5-spd (of course). The 95 M-edition comes in one color: Merlot mica (dark red), has leather interior and a CD/casette. What would this do at auction, what would dealer look to get for one? Thanks.

Okay, I need a bigger car and want to trade my 95 Honda Civic for a new CRV. The dealer that I went to only wants to give me $2300 on it and it has a spoiler, is an LX model, and has and has a factory installed alarm on it. I have about 104000 miles on it and it is in very good condition. Is this as good as it gets or should I try another dealer????

    Need help in Dallas....
  • lancerfixerlancerfixer Member Posts: 1,284
Sell the Civic yourself...you'll get a lot more for it.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Cool.

    Helps a lot :)

$4,000? That's pretty strong money for a 4cyl IMO. I'd think closer to $3Kish.. esp with the odd dent and Maypop brand racing slicks on it.

But what's this... Wow! You can buy at Blue Book and get Taxes Paid?

    (chuckle)

Gimme some info on the Van.. explicit. Methinks you could be payin too much here.

Shees.. 67K? Super clean? No Paintwork?

A solid $9K truck I think. Could easily pull closer to $10K... easily. Shop this one a tad. T100s are sorta stiff, but this has it all from the sounds of it.

  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
How nice is it? If its a CHerry, could do $3K-3,500 across the block.. so $5K is fair for retail.

    Still, haggle em down :)

    Yup.

    Buy an AWD/4WD/etc.

Seriously.. 2WD/FWDs are DOGS up there...

    Hmm..

It has like NO miles, but it has dome scuffs and stuff. And you have to push a little stick around to make it move.

    Good versus Bad...

As far as when to trade this car in. I dont see it smashing any harder really, Camaros have been sorta weak for a while.

I think youre in and around $6K-6,500. I'd normally be a bit higher, but 5-speed (I am Assuming RS and NO previous bodywork), otherwise clean, but those scuffs and a dent...

    Hope this helps!

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Hmm.

Sounds like a $3,500-4K car that needs $250 paintwork, and probably a new light assembly, and I doubt its a cherry overall. Am I right? Has sis been a bit hard on it?

If so, I think we're looking in the $2,500-3K neighborhood.

Nce car. I like em. Resale value of Beer, but I like em a lot.

Your car, wholesale.. $7,500ish. Ask $9,950.

    Lots of low-mile cars tonight!

  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
OK. That's a Solid $11K car wholesale. OK, So no leather or roof. Does it have Alloys?

So, If you were named on the title, and wanted to sell it, I'd tell you to put it in the paper for $13,900/bo and not to take less than $13K.

What do they want for it?

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
That's been used to commute back and forth between the moon!

    =O

    63K? :((

Assuming its super nice.. youre gonna be $9-10K if its super nice. Those milkes slaughter it.

You need to be buying the aforementioned 14K mile 3yr-old cars, drive em for a year, and then sell em!

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Tough call. LX? LXi?

You didnt say Leather, Slider or Alloys.. so I'll assume LX.

If its in really really clean shape.. $4,500. And I mean if it cant be told from new and the moon is perfectly aligned.

In other words, I'd say we're talking about a $3,500-4K unit here.

    $6K? Retail. Or trade-In on a 35K mile LXi

    Sorry...

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
If its super duper clean.. could touch $5K across the block. I like $4,500 a bit better tho. But $5,000 sure wouldnt suprise me.

I doubt you should be writing a check for more than $7K+TTL tho.

Start em at $5,500.. see what happens.

    Where are they at?

  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
5.2? 5.9? Cummins Turbodiesel? (Gee that'd be nice)

Extended? Crew? Regular? Cab that is...

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Terry isnt here (He knows Trucks a bit better), but I will stab it.

I think youre around $16-17Kish, but.

Arent Prerunners only Extended Cabs? Or am I wrong?

Shop that one to a few Toyota Used car Mgrs in town, I'm sure they'd want it. That new with so few miles... tough truck to hit.

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
I think it ought to pull $16K-16,500 wholesale as a trade.

$18,950 in the paper. Color is right, Miles are WAY right.

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    That's low.

    So its quiz-time!

Has it ever been inside a bodyshop?

    How is the body? Interior?

I'm looking into trading in a silver 2000 CRV LX 4WD Automatic. I bought it with only standard equipment but installed remote keyless entry, floor mats, drivers armrest, CD player, tinted windows, cargo mat, running boards, and a WAAG brush guard. Interior is clean and the exterior is average with a small dent from another vehicles door opening. I travel often and it has 48,000. The door locks occasionally want to auto lock. Thanks.

Well, no fries in the seats, but she does have a dog... Closer to "used but not abused".

Those are wholesale dollars, right? If I fix & detail it, in the 5-liner I ask $5,400?

Or should I tell her to take the money & run?

I have read over many of the posts in this forum. You all seem very knowledgeable about car values. Well, I am looking to sell my 2000 Mercedes E320 Sedan. It is Obsidian Black with Charcoal leather. The options i have are; the Bose premium sound system, moonroof, CD changer, rain-sensing wipers, heated seats, all season floor mats, cargo net. This car has 11,000 miles on it. It is kept in a garage, and nevered served as a commuter car (in fact, I live in Westchester, NY - and I never took it into NYC!). It is in immaculate condition. I have kept such good care of it. The only reason why I am looking to possibly sell it is because there is a new E320 coming out later this year. This is the last of the "traditional" Mercedes-Benzes. Do any of you have any idea what I can realistically get for trade in at a dealer, versus what I could get by selling it myself? And advice would be greatly appreciated! (Kelley Blue Book says trade in = $37,140 and retail = $41,325.) Thanks in again!

I have a '99 Dodge Durange with 44K on it, it has the smaller engine and 4WD.

It has a few scratches, brand new Scorpian Pirelli's, Patriot blue with black/gray interior.

What can I expect in a trade in?
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
That's gotta be a Solid $36-36,500 car. I think it could easily do more.

    Retail? $39,950. I wouldnt take a dime under $39K.

Kbb is, interestingly enough, pretty close for a change.

Hi, I have a 1995 Mercury Cougar Bostonian. Halfway through 2000, the head gasket let go and was, fortunately, replaced free under the extended warranty (they do serve their purposes folks!). In November of 2001, Ford announced a head gasket recall and despite my having had them replaced already, they wanted to do it again with 'special' head gaskets. When the local dealership got the car, they suggested that the engine was somehow wrecked by this problem and that I was entitled to a new engine. They then offered me an alternative of $3000 for the car, plus, if I wanted to buy a new car, $5,000 towards it. Buying their least expensive new car was still too much for me so I opted for the rebuilt engine. A hair over a year later, the Harmonic Balancer broke and they said I needed a new short block altogether. I took it for a second opinion and the next mechanic was disturbed, saying that Harmonic Balancers just don't brake so easily and the only one's he has ever seen broken were by people who fudged an engine installation. Said the job could be done for under $1,000. In any case, the Harmonic Balancer is being replaced.

At this point, I want to sell the damn thing. I want to get into a new car for the warranty but am still considering used except I need to know how much my car is really worth considering the unusual circumstances. So here's the scoop...

It has 110-120,000 miles on it, but only 18-20,000 miles on the rebuilt engine. It will have a new Harmonic Balancer as well. It's 6cyl, with pw/ps. The previous owner kept meticulous care of it up to 70,000 when I bought it and though I wasn't as meticulous, I kept pretty good care of it. It has a couple of good dings like a foot long scrape on the front quarter panel from someone who scraped it while parking. Also the back half of the roof is that mock leather material. It has new brake parts (and I mean more than just pads), and new shocks, and pretty new tires.

Any help as to what I can ask for this as a trade-in and for retail is greatly appreciated. Is this something I should sell privately since a private party might be more impressed with the new engine?

    Thanks in advance,

    Eric

I bought a land rover discovery a little over a year ago. I hate it. I take it to some dealers to see what they can offer me for trade. When I purchased the lr the dealer convienced me that this suv will not depreciate! 31,000 on the dotted line the lr was mine. The dealer where I was trying to trade came back with 18,000, I started laughing and said you mean my lr depreciated 13,000 in a year, he said yes. I kept shopping for the right trade the highest I recieved was 22,000. I am curious about what I should really expect.

    Thanks for the discussion,

Wow. I feel for you. Honestly. I went through hell myself with an old BMW once.. so I can sympathize..

Hmm.. some cosmetic issues... oy. 120Kish...

$1,500-1,000 on trade, but, a well-written ad might get ya around $3K for it, so try $3,450/bo and see what happens.

  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Well..

they dont have super strong resale. Thats for sure. You dont like it though? I am driving one now and LOVE it.

Well, some people think Kias look better than Jags, so we all have differing opinions :)

Now, to appraise your car, I'll need some more info though.

Where do you live? I dont need your home address, but a metro area would help :)

Color? Equipment? Model Year? Mileage? I assume Moonroof and Leather, but does it have ACE? Rear Seats? 18" Wheels?

Some more info would help me a lot! :)

    Hey!

Transmission? LE, VE, CE?? Color? Where are you located?

Its worth more in FL or CA than in WY or ND!

How much can I expect to get (trade) for an 2000 Eddie Bauer Explorer? It has a V8, is a 4x2, has 34000 miles and is in absolutely great condition. It got 4 all new Goodyear tires a few weeks ago courtesy of the Firestone recall. It of course has leather, power everything, Homelink, CD player, rear air and radio controls. The exterior is light olive green with tan trim. The interior is tan. I live in Louisiana. Thanks in advance.
  • abtsellerabtseller Member Posts: 291
as bad a resale as a Dodge. I can't say for your area, but here in the Mid Atlantic, an Eddie Bauer with no 4wd is probably going to be worth about $10-11K.

it is manual transmission..color blue..i'm n north dallas, texas...it does not say LE, VE, OR CE at the back..i have to check the registration or the sticker...it should be the lowest end...it's been rear-ended twice..thx
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
Corollas came in base (no letter designation on the trunk), DX or LE. Yours is likely base if it doesn't have a model on the trunk. Has your body work been done from the collisions?
  • heyochieheyochie Member Posts: 3
Yes, both times it was repaired pretty well, i should say..it is most likely a base model...

My 1990 Toyota Celica GTS Liftback (5-speed) is in impeccable condition (REALLY looks almost new inside and out) and had been meticulously maintained. It has only 85,000 miles. Power sunroof, windows & door locks. Problem is that it has all of a sudden developed some expensive to repair problems, so I've decided to trade it in for another Toyota. It has a cracked motor mount, and the wiring to the stereo (non-factory Harmon Kardon with 6/disc in trunk cd changer)needs replacing. I know what this car would be worth if there were no problems, but can you please give me an idea of what I can expect to get on a trade-in from my Toyota dealer?
  • rbrenton88rbrenton88 Member Posts: 186
Do you consider 78k miles to be high on a 7 year old car (a '95)?

I've heard differing opinions on this elsewhere.
  • carguy911carguy911 Member Posts: 6
Thanks for the solid advice "brentwoodvolvo." I really appreciate it!
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Ahh... umm.. OK, we'll assume that its' a base model

I dont like the "been rear-ended a couple of times" at all though.

I'd figure it, without seeing it, in the $1800-2200 range.

    What do you think.

1994 Audi 100S Wagon. Front Drive. Blue, no paint, minor rust underneath. Nice car. 86,000 miles, automatic, roof, cd, alloys, no leather.

Offered $4,000. Guy walked. He's trying to sell it for $9,700.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Sure its a stiff piece of merchandise... in NJ.

In Louisiana, its not a bad item. 4WD isnt as crucial outside the snowbelt.

    Figure $16Kish with the miles..

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Hmm..

Motor Mount $200.. wiring $200.. $400 to fix it at worst I think. Not the end of the world really!

That being saidm you ought to try and shoot for $2,500 if its as super nice as you say it is (Esp if youre in FL or CA)

I bought this car about a month ago and I don't care for it. What could I expect in trade for another Nissan? It's a 2001 GXE with the convenience package, rear spoiler, floor mats, splash guards, and in-cabin microfilter.

    Thanks.
  • rbrenton88rbrenton88 Member Posts: 186
    I don't think a MB C280 is exotic!

I heard that comment after a trade-in eval, and it struck me as an odd reason to ding a car, given an average yearly mileage of 11k.
