graphicguy: Why not look for a 90-91 Honda Accord? You may have to go back another year or so further than the Saturn but it is a bigger car, better (smoother) engine, and you should be able to get one of those in under $3000 after negotiation. You might also want to look for a Mazda Protege or an older 626 5-speed (no automatic, major problems).

I am buying the A4 avant from a guy and I have him at 26K so i assume you are saying that is a great price to by a 2001 1.8T Audi wagon for. As you state if i took less then 26,500 I could go to my room lol :) But I am the buyer so I think your saying jump on it right. Thanks again buddy. You guys should start a quote service and charge like 5 bucks a car. On the side you could make some good money. If you need help on a web site let me know a buddy of mine is great at it. OK just a half serious thought, but anyway Thanks again. Late

Consider yourself LUCKY the dealer even wanted
    it. I had a 99 3k miles stick a/c they
were hard pressed to even give me 3000.
And they still didn't want it on a new
chevy truck trade! Luckily I found someone
to take over the payments after it sat in
my yard for 11/2 years !

BTW: Before anybody laughs .....I cosigned
a loan for someone..thats how I got stuck
with it and had to make the payments while
it sat. I didn't want to ruin MY credit !
I will never co-sign a loan again !....Geo

    Yeah..

Without knowing how bad the dent is.. $700 may be light, but $1,000 may be the moon.

Also, these cars, depending upon your location, can be VERY tough to unload. I have seen 99s sell wholesale for under $2,000.

Retail? Ask $2,900.. take anything over $2,000.

    Sorry we missed it! =O

    Its been busy here lately.

Terry hit this right, I think its an 18K car. Cold Weather Package? All 98-00s have it.

    Option on the new ones..

    Hmm..

    $1,500? $2K as a trade?

Retail? $3,900/bo in the paper methinks.

I have a 1998 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 4x4, 65k miles. Great shape, non-smoking, detailed on a regular basis, newer tires, shocks, brakes.

I am coming up on lease end and am wondering if it would be in my best interest to buy it or trade it in. How much do you think I can get on a trade for a similar vehicle?
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... This all depends on the condition .. If it's super nice and clean and it drives and looks like an 01 ... then you are in and around that $15ish figure ...

    Whats your residual ..?

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... Well the miles don't hurt this a bit. And the Pope is coming over for dinner later.

On a trade depending on the dealer, you might be in and around a $1,5/$2,000 figure ...

Since it has all the service records ready to roll, and this will stand tall as it sits. Then this is a good retail piece.

Throw it in the paper ... for $3,900 and let some nice Mormon come buy for $2,9/$3,1/$3,300 and let him cart it off to the Olympics ...

    Terry.

Thanks for the information regarding trade-in value of my 1999 BMW 740i. I checked with BMW Financial Services and it looks like the residual is too high for me to consider purchasing it ($41k). Unless BMW Financial Services substantially lowers the purchase price, I don't think it will be worthwhile (I'll lose ~$5k as soon as I sign on the dotted line). You have been very helpful. Thank you.

Hi Guys.. new here hope you can help me out!

Ok it has 69k miles, leather, CD, moonroof, auto, all the stuff you know comes with the EX. Interior is in good shape just normal wear of leather, no tears. Exterior has 2 very small dings from I guess a shopping cart, and there is some small paint chips on the very bottom of the front bumper from road debris. But just a few not noticable unless you look for it. Thanks!

Given the atrocious depreciation of other Kia/Hundai models, any clues yet on how the Sedona might hold up short or long term? Is any amount of popularity or improvement in quality control and safety sufficient to overcome the Kia stigma anytime soon? The Optima and Sonata seem like nice, much-improved products from these manufacturers over previous offerings, but apparently still have resale as ugly as ever. Wondering if the Sedona will be in the same boat.

    Thanks,

Please enlighten me on my car's value.

    90 Accord LX 5spd, 4dr, Charcoal in Dallas/Ftworth
180K mile. Super clean interior/ ext/ non smoker.
Few paint chips on hood, super clean paint/body/ all original/ garage kept by original owner till 120K (when I bought it)
Complete, yes I mean complete records from the day car was bought.
All major work by dealer (new clutch/pressure/fly wheel seals etc. Timing belt, whole deal done 5 months back by Honda dealer).
Engine super clean/sound like 80K. No crackling etc noise, small oil leak from oil pan seal that it. Oil changed every 3K.

I think this would be enough info. for you to reach a dealer tradein on a 2k2 Nissan Maxima. Plus sould I try to sell it myself?? I am realistic and don't have very high figure in my mind. I am thinking around $25-2700 dealer tradein or $32-3400 to private party. Am I wrong??Thanks
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... There is no doubt about it, Kia and Hyundai have greatly improved by leaps and bounds.

As far as the long term goes ..(4/5/6 years 100,000+ miles) ... Nobody can answer that question with a straight face.

All vehicles have gone through this "trial by fire", so to speak.

Volvo's, for many years were laughed at, sneered at.. kinda the joke of the industry. Then the first couple of hundred hit 100,000 miles, then the next 5,000 then hit 200,000+ miles. Then the rest is history, one of the foremost, safest, reliable name plates to hit the pavement.

In my stupid humble opinion, Hyundai probably has a lot more consumer building than Kia does.

Kia in 95/96 was replacing transmissions and engines, left and right with ..a phone call. The Kia dealers never really got the run around, that the Hyundai dealers had to endure. If a door handle fell off in a Kia, it was replaced. If a starter failed outside of warranty, Kia replaced it. If the torque converter failed because of consumer abuse .. it got replaced.

It was, and still is, a hill to climb for Kia. But, I feel Kia has certainly done more on a unit to unit, and a consumer to consumer basis than Hyundai ever tried to do.

Now it's a new Ball game ... all new corporate entity's, all new designs, all new market approach ---- Will this all change for the buyer, for the good ...?

No one can answer that right now. Car and driver talks about improvements, Road and Track gives some nice stories --- but only time, and a bunch on the road with lot's of extended miles will prove it. That's the bottom line.

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Well it's nice to see a very positive thinker.

But, I feel on a trade you are lookin' more towards a $1,500 (maybe, depending on the dealer) figure on a trade. It has 180 big klicks, and last but not least -- it's a Handshaker. (no help there) ..

So if you are trying to get the most dollar for the vehicle, I would retail it. Have it detailed, throw it in your largest paper and ask
$2950, and let some nice person come over and buy it for $2,1/$2,3/$2,500 ... Then go buy your new Maxima. :-)

    I hope this helps ...

How much is my 1993 Excel worth? It's kind of a dirty brown (poo) color and has 191k on it (but they're all highway miles, man). I just put some kickin rims and tires on it, tho (they were $4k for rims and tires).

I tried to trade it in on a new Jag XK8 (just came into some cash recently) but the dealer said he didn't even want my car! That POS! It's at least worth $5,000, don't you think? I figure $1,000 for the car and $4,000 for the rims and tires (hey, that's what they cost!).

    What do you think?

Maybe I just need to go down to the local Caddie dealer. I'm sure they'll give me the $5k for my trade and Cadillac is the only company with any style left anyway. You can't even get a fake convertible roof on anything else today!

    Is this guy for real?

I'm sure Collier will allow him $5k on the Excel....against $4000 over MSRP on the XK8. High gross always prevails!

I'll call you today...I've been incognito.

    Hi there,
I'm hoping to get a trade-in value for my 99 Toyota Celica GT Convertible. I plan on buying an Xterra XE Supercharged and will be trading in my Celica on it. My Celica is black with a black leather interior and has 28,800 miles. It has AM/FM/CD, leather steering wheel, power windows/doors, ABS, pretty much loaded and is in Primo condition (both interior and exterior). I even still have the convertible boot for the vehicle. I bought the car originally in Florida, but will be trading in on a purchase in Phoenix AZ. I hope this will be enough info for an accurate assessment. Thanx for any help you can provide.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... You don't see many of these around ... I don't think the black is gonna help ya too much. But, spring hasn't sprung yet ...

The miles are great ..and based on what you are telling us, it's like new ..

Depending on the condition, it should fetch the low $14's on a trade.

Camel back has some great Golf courses ..

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... In this case, the miles are not going to help you ..

If it's nice and clean, you are going to be in the ultra high 10's, super low 11's.

    Good luck ..

Hi there. I'm going to be looking to trade in my
    truck which has the following:

Dark Green 99 Toyota Tacoma 4x2 with 22,500 miles, V6, extra cab, TRD off road package Power locks and windows, 6 disk in dash CD, flip up moon roof, alarm, and black running boards.

It has about a 1 Centimeter long scratch on the front of the hood where a pebble got kicked up on the freeway and some minor "scuffing" (not scrathced, but not glossy is the best way to describe it) marks where i guess people have brushed the side of it while in the parking lot.

(My lease is almost up and I'm tired of getting 15 MPG and hi Insurance Premiums. -I'm seriously thinking about a Toyota Prius)
    Thanks for your time

I have a 99 GS300. It is fully loaded in Excellent cond., it has only 29,000 miles. I 'm trying to sell it, but I might trade it in. One dealer offered me $25,900. Kelley blue book says that my trade-in value is $28,500. I'm asking $34,300 from private party. It has 18inch custom wheels with every option possible on the car except for heated seats. Can you tell me what to expect from a dealer and was the first offer I received going to be as good as it gets.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... If you say it's in excellent shape, than I will take your word for it ..

This would mean new sneakers (with 18's Ya do. .l.o.l.), not more than 1 maybe 2 dings down the sides. No Scratches no dings on the fascias. The interior looks 02 ..

The miles are right (what color..?) ... No Nack.No heated seats. No spoiler .. Right ..?

At $26, the dealer is trying to earn your biz., there might be a few hundred or so, here or there but I know they want your Biz at that figure.

If, the Kelley book is what your using for figures, then don't hold your breath because they are waaaaay off, as usual.

If you truly want to sell it ... list it at $29,950 and you will see, the ultra high $28's or the low $29's. At $34, you will see -0- ...

Good luck ..and let us know.

    Terry.

..... This is kinda an odd little puppy, A V6, a 4x4 and a long bed. Hmmmmm.... auto ..?

Well let's just say it's clean .. the bed looks new, the tires are still good for another 7k all the way around. Let's say, the interior is lookin' almost new, miles are right. Depending on what part of the country your from, then $13 is an easy figure to hit.

    Hope this helps ....

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... This pup has no miles, it's a V6 and X tended, (lotsa help there) .. and it has all the stuff.

Sounds like a nice truck. Let's whack a Nick off, for the "damage" so to speak. --- I would say the this little darlin' will do all of the low $14's...

    Maybe this helps ...

..... What ...? Is this one of those "Sunday go to meetin'" vehicles ..l.o.l..

Well the miles are super low, the T tops ..that's a take it or leave it deal. Let's just assume its a very clean 94, with low miles that ... hopefully looks like a 99. It's about a $4 grand or so vehicle plus or minus a few, depending on the area of the country.

98 Dodge Intrepid, Green. Clean interior (non-smoker), exterior no rust or dents, cloth seats, AM/FM stereo, Cruise, power windows/locks, 98K miles.

What is a realistic trade-in value
  • tomsrtomsr Member Posts: 325
I would like a real world trade in price for this car.64000 miles,a few minor door dings, new tires,
    premium model with leather,moonroof,cd,auto trans,
interior is almost perfect, drivers seat is showing wear, dark blue, still runs like new,KBB says 10.5K but a Ford dealer where my son works said 11.5K, maybe cause he wanted my business.
    Location San Diego.
  • billiam70billiam70 Member Posts: 54
What would a realistic trade-in be for my Accord:

    2001 V6 EX Coupe
    Black
    7400 miles
    All standard features plus spoiler

Front bumper was replaced due to minor damage when shipping cross country. I moved to WA from NJ. Car was detailed and looks showroom new.

    Thanks.

........ Gheeez, another low, low, mile vehicle --- If it's all there, then it's gotta do the mid $18's easy ..(real money)

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... I agree with your son, it's gotta do $11,500. The miles are ok for the year, it's knee deep in rubber --- and it has, let's say $300 in "No can does" as far as the body .. right ..?

    Terry.
  • billiam70billiam70 Member Posts: 54
Thanks for the quick reply. I have another question about trade-ins.

Does it make a difference on how much a dealer is willing to give you on a trade if they are going to resell it on their lot over selling it to a wholesaler?
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Based on what you are telling us, it's a base, not a ES.

No slider, no leather, no Infinity ...with 98klicks ...ouch!

    It's maybe a $3,500 vehicle ...
