Yeah, there is one too many there. Thanks for the catch. Drove the Mazda, I think I would be better off to sell my car out right and then go deal. That would less that they can take me for. Still trying to decide which vehicle is the better deal so I'm not in any big hurry, but it is still frustrating dealing with the big dealers on my car.

..... These are great vehicles and very much in demand. (straight sedan L, right?)

This particular one, has like no miles for the year. So if it's clean all the way around, knee deep in rubber and except for an oil change and a little this and a little that, it's a "stand tall" vehicle, then the dealer has at least $8 and some change in it.

You can try $9, I think it will take a little more to drop it in your driveway, I'm thinkin more towards $10 .. these are few and far between, especially with the low miles -- But, if you don't ask, you don't get ...

Good luck .. and let us know.

Asked you about pricing a while ago...ended up buying a Mineral Grey 2001 Mustang GT, 5-speed, 2600 miles, Bullit wheels, all options, for $18,500. Does that sound like I got a good deal? Thanks!

Not that you're not doing a great job flying solo here, but where the hell is Bill?
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... That grey is a Great color, everyone has jumped on that color band wagon, BMW, Audi, Lincoln, etc.

You did ... GOOD, real good..! No miles, GT and the right color.

Congrats .. and enjoy it ..!

...... These are such great machines .. I had the twin to this as a Demo in 89, I just thought is was "way too cool" and the beach bunnies just loved it .. l.o.l..

These critters will run forever properly serviced, even in the hot Fl sun the tops and interiors would hang forever ... Just get it all checked out, and make sure the top is A1 and the cover is ok, as in all Converts, they can be expensive.

But anyway, you know the gig, if it's a nice one -- they pay dearly for em', this one is low in miles for the year. A dealer would have at least $3,5ish in it .. so go from there.

Must have scared you off, Terry.

Mr Shifty in the classics aisle pegged it at about 4.5k retail. Must be hard to judge, since there aren't many of them around, and lots of them are trashed.

That # sound fair to you?

  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Yeah, that's a fair "asking" price ... drop $3,5 at em' and see what happens.

Somewhere between $3,5 and $4,5 you guys have a basis for doing some business.

    Is it a GXE ..?

...... I think I might of answered this before .. but, these Saabs aren't burning down any barns right now.

I'm sure in your area and a few more, there is a difference. They can be bought now for "around" $18ish, no matter what any book says.. they are doing around the $15/$16 figure at the block.

Now, yours has ultra low miles .. but it also has a handshaker, and some body work --- what this may be worth in December, is anybodys guess.

All I can say is .. try back in October

I have a 2001 Nissan Altima GXE with 52,000 miles. It is beige with biege cloth interior, automatic trans, cruise control, power door locks, power windows, power driver's seat, and CD player. Condition is good with excellent maintenance history. Involved in one minor fender bender which resulted in scratched bumper and small dent in passenger side door (immediately repaired). I am in the Memphis, Tennessee area. What is a fair trade-in value for this vehicle?

    Thanks,

  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... Right color, right options, right maintenance and it's been fixed - but, the wrong miles...

Now, if it is deep in rubber, clean inside and out, then you should be in and around that $9,5/$10 figure .. sorry.

    it's about time, i think:

    1992 acura integra LS
    111000
    white hatchback
    5 speed manual, ac, sunroof
could use new muffler/tailpipe ($230 at estimate), runs great
one ding on rear bumper - otherwise paint shines, interior clean - nonsmoker
one owner, all service records from dealer available

i know it's not much, but it's all i've got!

    Hello,

First time poster here. Great information on this site and I could use some advice.

I am planning to purchase a new car very soon and am not sure whether to even bother with a trade-in. I recently found out my transmission is shot on my '93 Ford Ranger XLT(114,000 mi). It still runs but there is a noticeable noise and the shop found debris in the transmission fluid. I was quoted $1500 to $2000 for repair.

Will I likely get any value at all out the truck given the situation? I've never traded in a car needing this much work before.

Secondly, if I were to trade-in, the truck badly needs a headliner. In your opinion, would I get value out of having it replaced? Its a fairly inexpensive fix and would greatly improve the "curb-appeal." Pretty clean truck outside of that.

Thanks for any advice. Sorry for the long post.

..... Tranny work is like the "hunt for Red October" .. you need to know were to go, who's real good and will do it for a "reasonable price". This I would do some real homework with, check with friends, neighbors, work .. get one of those "nickel mags" that comes out once a week in your area .. Ya know, stuff like that.

See, that seems to be a little on the HIGH side, you should be able to get a good Tech to put it in for about half that, and of course a headliner will run somewhere around $90/$125 ..

Now, with all that said .. it's still will only be worth around a quarter on a trade if it's reeeal nice and around $3/$3,5ish on the retail side ... Maybe.

So what does all that mean ..? I really don't know .. l.o.l... Me, I would sell as is, on the retail side and "maybe" see $8/$1,2 as it stands .. ---- Whew, that sure was a lot of writing to let you know, what you already did know .. right ..? l.o.l... Happy 4th of July ..!

I think what you'l hear from Terry and the car sales guys is that a truck like this has no tangible value to a dealership. They might overallow you on the trade to make a deal but, frankly, the truck probably isn't worth more than $500 to them in its current condition.

You say it makes a noticeable noise and the tranny has gunk in it (probably clutch material). Is the noise coming from the tranny or elsewhere? If its fixable for a reasonable price then it may be worth doing. Have the tranny flushed (not just dropping the pan but an entire flush) and see how it works. Might be OK for awhile.

My point is that it may be worth it to spend a few $$ and fix it up in order to sell it yourself. There is always a market for old trucks and as long as it looks decent and runs decent you may get $2000 or so for it. So, if you spend $500 fixing a $500 truck and get $1500-2000 for it, that's $$ in your pocket.

    Good luck.

Sorry Terry, I haven't quite got the hang of this yet, but here goes: It is an LE, Cashmere Beige. Genseal tires on the back. AM/FM cassette, power window, power locks. 38600 miles(no extra zeros this time)now on the od. Minor parking lot kisses, none too noticable. Toyota is the only one servicing it.Needs a bath inside & out, but nothing major. I have all receipts of anything I have ever had done with it.It does have a new bumper but that is factory OEM. Warrenty runs out in November on the powertrain.
Did I do better this time??? Sorry to be a pain.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
....... Aaaaall righty then..! Now we got something to work with ( 4cyl ..right..?)

Ok, we have a LE, with the right color and some nice options, a little average wear and tear and the correct maintenance .. and it's dirty.. l.o.l.

Low miles on this one .. spend $100 get this puppy detailed, it will make a big difference, you should see in and around $9 for it.

After 3 tries, you did good.

    Good Luck ...!

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
    ..... Auto right ...?

Miles are low for the year, it's an SE with the right stuff. If it looks 02 and if it's nice inside and out, then you should be in and around the mid $13's.

The G's are hot right now, not much discounting going on, but shop around and see what can be done.

    Happy 4th of July ...!

.... Now, we are getting some place ......!

It's a GLE, color is fine (if it's up north) we have Bose, we have leather, we have bun warmers, we have a slider .... and we have lot's and lot's of miles.

IF .. it has new rubber, it looks like a 20k vehicle inside and out, drives new and needs -0- .. then you should be in and around that $13,5/$14ish figure.

    I hope this helps ....

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... The miles are actually low for the year, it's a handshaker, but if it's nice .. Ya know, new tires, runs like a Piaget watch, looks like a 99 all the around .. this will pull at least $3 on a trade, if you get the exhaust fixed.

Me personally, I would make it look like a "baby doll", like brand new. Drop it in the largest paper in the area for $5,995 and let some nice patriot buy it for $4,5/$5,500.

    Terry,

Thanks for your help on this one. The trade-in value you quoted definitely works for me. I wasn't expecting too much b/c I knew the miles would kill me. I guess I'll have to cut out those monthly trips to Chicago. ;-)

    Have a great July 4th!

Looking to trade in a 94 Beretta 2dr coupe with 90,250 miles on it for a 2002 Ford Escape. The Beretta has PS,PB,AC,PW,POWER LOCKS,TILT WHEEL,CRUISE CONTROL, AM/FM CASSETTE,REAR SPOILER. I would rate it as being in fair to good condition. Center console armrest coming apart but other than that, it looks like an 8 year old American made car. What should I expect to receive as a trade in value? Thanks for any suggestions. Additional info - V6 with Automatic Transmission. Live in Charlotte, NC.

Just to help out a bit, the guys need specific info on your vehicle to give you an accurate price.

First, they'll need to know what Honda model you have. I assume Accord but you don't state that.

Then they need some other info:

    Color combo
    Geographical location
    Tranny (auto or manual)
    Doors
2WD? 4WD? (for trucks and SUVs)
Previous accident damage? (Get graphic here.. I want details on what happened to it.)

The more details you provide, the more accurate they can be.

1996 Honda Civic EX sedan 5-speed. It has sunroof, power windows-locks-mirrors, cruise control, and keyless. It's silver with light grey interior and 111,000 miles. It has the rear spoiler and factory CD player. Clean on the inside. Outside .. it was repainted and it's not a great job but it's all one color ... Recent timing belt, new tires, and it runs like new. What's a fair price for this? Thanks in advance.

I recently inherited a 97 Saturn 4-dr. std or SL1 I don't no which, it does have tach am/fm and rear defogger. The kicker is it has 9700 miles! Most dealers say it is worth $1000 over base trade or around $7000. Is that a fair amount? It is automatic, body & interior perfect. Driven by 83yr old about 600 miles in last 2 years.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
....... Well, I would have to agree with you on this one -- No miles ... l..o..l..

Let's figure this as a SL1, clean, nice and no miles. Based on that type vehicle and those looow miles, you are being a little "smoked" on the real value of the vehicle.

I'm buying 99, SL2's with 20/25k with sliders, cd's, leather and all the toys for the $7's. Real $$ on your vehicle is somewhere "around" the mid $5's .. on a push. ---- Just be careful and do a little more homework, right now you are seeing a "over allowance", not real $$ ...

Good luck .. and let us know.

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... What ...? No good news here ..?

We have some rust, we have some dent's, we have some big miles, Ouch.

4 things might save you here .. it's a 4WD, it's a Club Cab, it's a LE and we have new sneakers. On a trade, "in and around" that $2ish figure, might try Retail Rd. $3,900 in the paper and $2,9/$3,5 takes it off the driveway.

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... These are nice vehicles, in demand and well liked .. but you got some miles going on here, that's not in demand.

But, Honda buyers aren't afraid of a 50k vehicle, on a trade you should be around that high $13's low $14's figure., good color.

    I hope this helps ...
