How much do you think I should be able to get from a dealer (Infiniti in this case, if that makes a difference) for my 1998 dark green Volvo V70? It has 74,500 miles, two small scratches about one inch long, a ding about the size of a pea, and several small scuffs on the right rear bumper. All else is in excellent condition. The car has been regularly serviced at a Volvo dealership, including all scheduled maintenance. It has never been in an accident and has no new paint on it. The tires are worn. We have had no problems with this car, except that we needed to replace the rotors last fall because they became etched due to worn-out pads. Thanks.
I have a 1998 XJ8 with 45k Gray/Tan. It has not been in any sort of accident. I went to my local Jaguar dealer....Collier Jaguar...here in Orlando. They offered me $15,000 on trade and they would not come down off of MSRP on a 2002 X-Type 3.0 Sport package Black/Black. Does this deal seem fair to you guys?
They did say they would give me a loaner (from Enterprise) when I brought it in for service.

I may have a possible deal to purchase a 1999 Ford Windstar for 16,900 - with 30,000 miles on it. It is an SE but has power side doors, bucket seats and CD/Tape, a few other extra features. I have an opportunity to finance it for 72 months, so my payments will be low - what do you think the value of that car will be at the end of the 6 years? If I put between 10 & 12,000 miles a year on it. I guess what I really need to know is can I trade it in for a meaningful deal? And do these cars last over 100,000 miles? Thanks
I'll prep you for Bill and/or Terry's answer. You don't want to finance a three year-old anything for six years, especially not a Windstar. They're fairly famous for transmission failures, for one thing (a friend with 35k miles on a 00 is on its THIRD transmission), and bad resale for another. Here's the recipe to avoid:
Possible big non-warranted repairs + Still making payments on said vehicle + Bad resale, when vehicle will be ~ten years old and have ~100k miles ___________________________________________________________________ Big-Time Poverty maker
If you can't afford the payments on a 99 Windstar ($16,900 is too much for a 99 anyway), get something older, cheaper or smaller (don't ask me what, though).
Thanks Gulet, you get a "Get out of room free" card.
OK... Rule #1: Do NOT Finance a car for six freaking years! You should be sent to your room on that alone! Tsk tsk... burial time!
Now, the Windstar... First, $15K is the ceiling of what you should be paying. At $16,999 you are hovering above the roof. It's too much for it. You can do better.
Also, I would not recommend a Windstar. Like Robert Goulet (lol) said up there, they are about as reliable as a Kia. Pass. Besides, SE's use that nasty, evil, head-gasket blowing 3.8 engine.
Resale? Wholesale on a clean '95 with, say, 120K miles (Assume ya drive 15K/year) is $2K on a great day.
Now, ya got some cash to spend... Here's what I WOULD buy. I'd look for a 1999 Sienna CE 5-Door with about 40K miles on it. Much nicer Van, MUCH MUCH MUCH more reliable (Well, unless you NEVER change the oil). They don't break, they're safe and nice to drive. $16K is plenty to buy one like that.
Do you NEED a Minivan? Maybe a nice 98 Volvo V70 wagon for $15-16K would fit the bill?
You got options...
As far as financing, do this. How's your credit? Go to www.myfico.com and check your beacon score. If you're in the 700s (720ish up) and have no previous deliquencies and previous car credit, go to www.peoplefirst.com and get them for 5.5% or whatever. Dont go past 60 months.
Yeah, Jordan's are 23" rims, whip is a ride/car, etc., don't feel bad Dave, everyone is out of it to some degree, even if you're in it, unless you live where it's at and are in it day to day, you can't keep up anyway, it changes by the minute, and it doesn't hurt to be young, I'm happy @ 30, wish I could stay here awhile longer...
Hey you guys didn't forget about my SUVs did ya?? lol
I have a '99 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 2WD with 73,000 miles. It has the SOHC V-6. It is medium wedgewwood blue. There are a few dings on the side from car doors. Otherwise the paint is in good shape. The windshield has a small crack from a rock. It was patched and hasn't spread since it happened 2 years ago. Good rubber. The floor mats are brand new. It has the premium sound. The display on the radio is out, but the radio works fine.(I don't think it's fried, maybe shorted because it will come on sometimes). I need to see if it can be fixed, but is it worth it? The car is in good shape all around except for what I mentioned. I will be trading it in for a 2002 Explorer in Atlanta (30080). It also has the optional trailer tow package. What's a good trade in value? Should I think about retail since I'm in such a large market? Thanks a million. - John
I am seeking advice for the value of a trade in for a 2001 BMW 325xi with all wheel drive, premium package, heated seats, Harmon Kardon sound, gray exterior / black interior, moon roof with 25000 miles.
Ultimately, I would like to trade it in for a Honda Accord Coupe.
Also, are dealers willing to take a trade-in where the value of the trade-in is higher than the value of the car being purchase ?
I have a question about Ford's X-Plan pricing (Partner Recognition Program; I work for Lockheed). I can get a 2002 Limited Explorer at a set X-plan price of $32,452. It has a MSRP of $35,755. The X-plan price is around or below the invoice price of the vehicle and right in line with the TMV price. To me it sounds like a good deal especially since I don't have to haggle at all to get that price. My question is, is this a good price or should I try to get a better one not taking advantage of the X-Plan price? The x-plan price as far as I know is on the dealer invoice and not negociable. Also, I would still be eligible for the $2500 factory rebate bringing the price to $29,952. I would be trading in the '99 Explorer I listed in post #8320 and also am wondering a good trade in value for that. I would greatly appreciate anyone and everyone's input. John
OK guys, I've got one for you. The car is in the Tri-State area (NY,NJ,CT). My friend bought the V6 Mustang because he wanted a convertible and couldn't swing the insurance on the GT (V8). All of the modifications he did to the car were to make it look as close to a GT as possible. They are tasteful (no boy racer stuff). The car is in perfect condition. My friend who owns it walks from his apt. to the train station every day. I'd like to know what the trade in & private sale prices are. Thank-you!

What would be a fair price for a 1999 Subaru Outback wagon, 5 speed, dark blue, gray interior with CD player. Rest of options standard for the Outback, power windows, locks, cruise etc. 40,000 miles, clean condition. I am looking to buy one of these here in Colorado. What would a dealer likely pay for one of these at auction? What would a fair retail price be? Thanks, Ken
Would you please let me know what I can expect for my 2000 Mazda Protege LX with the usual options(A/C, CD, Power, Keyless) & Fog lamps, with 25k miles and 17 months MFR warranty left. Interior clean but a couple of small dents on the doors. With normal maintenance, I've had no mechanical problems so far.
I am in Central New Jersey and looking for a trade-in for either a Mazda MPV or Honda CR-V. I would also like to know if I would get a similar value from both New and Used car dealers.
I am looking at a 1999 Saab 9-5 se v6 turbo, loaded, auto, 41K miles, silver, black leather, ventilated front seats, heated front and rear seats. I have set up a time to drive it on friday here in New Orleans. The dealer has it listed for 19,999 and will Saab Certify it for something like $599 more. How does this sound? What do you think I should offer? This would be my first Saab, what about reliability, maintenance costs, etc. Comments welcome from all!
Black/Black the kiss of death in Florida? How can this be true? Collier told me black is a premium color and in fact they showed me a very rare black/black XK8 coupe.
I have a 1993 Buick Park Ave Ultra, 150K miles, good condition (a little weathered, nothing too bad). Power everything. Just put in new shocks, recharged AC and had brakes done about 5 mos. ago. I'm buying a new Infiniti G35, Leather, premium, winter & wood packages, Xenon Headlights, sunroof. Offer from dealership is $32,374. Sound Fair for new car? What is fair trade in for Buick (have not yet discussed with dealer. Any feedback welcomed.
anyone answered cdsakdol's question about his '99 navigator, since that is one of the vehicles I was looking at maybe you can kill two birds w/ one stone....
My example, Caddy dealer has a '99 Navigator 4x4 45k mi. White/Tan Lthr CD Changer decent rubber Seems clean to me and drives very well
Asking price after test drive: $28k, told him I needed to ck some numbers, it was time for them to close, he tossed me the keys and said take it home, come back and see me in the morning, I told him about my buying process up front, that I would determine the wholesale and retail value of the car before making an offer, I knew what a 2000 should go for, but wanted to ck w/ some people before I made an offer, but off the top of my head $28 sounded high, but if he wanted me to take it home I would, he said yes, but he didn't think they'd come off the price much. I wanted the oppty to really drive one and figured if he knew my process and still wanted me to take it, I was being fair about it, and it might work out. #8294 of 8331 80K miles Lincoln Nav. by cdsakdol Aug 03, 2002 (05:10 pm) I'm looking at a very clean 1999 Lincoln Nav. It has 80K miles on it which is mostly highway miles. It comes with 3 TV's, Playstation II, upgraded wood trim inside, computer chip for extra power, dual exhaust, nice 20" rims and more. Where would you place the value for purchase? If maintained good, how many miles can I expect out of this engine?
I did find two posts about a '99 Nav I forgot about coz those deals didn't work out.
Bill responded about a 27k mi 2wd 99 Nav w/ 23" rims(models worth about $3-5k new), 3 tvs, 3 woofer sound system etc., he labled it at around $27.5, as he said hard to label 'extra mods' and such, and this one was very low mi.
Then Terry also posted about another 99 Nav, but the one he mentioned was more standard, and he references a 4wd, but only gives I think a wholesale/auction/trade-in kind of price... here is a reduced version of that post ---------------------------------------------- #8088 of 8119 Karz .. by rroyce10 Jul 19, 2002 (06:35 am) ........But, I can tell what a clean 99 with let's say, 30/35k, chromes, slider, 4WD might be worth .. might have $22/$23 in it, plus the stuff. ....... -----------------------------------------------
I still wouldn't mind a specific peg on the above referenced '99 Nav a post back, but wanted to let you know I am keeping the info you share, trying to minimize the bother to you...thanks
** black is a premium color and in fact they showed me a very rare black/black XK8 coupe. ""
Did they show the Mary Kay pink one .. that's a big seller too .. l.o.l..
Black is a great color - "up North". That Jag in S.Fran, Denver, Chi-town, Lexington, Philly, NYC, etc. will pull an extra $500/$1,000+ .. drop it in Atlanta, Houston, N.Orleans and "Bam" it's bad news, drop it in Miami, Tampa, Orlando, etc, and it drops like a Bad Habit .. the value drops by $1,0/$2,000+ depending on the vehicle and the time of the year -- I'm sure that the Dealer would love to loose that puppy.!
Rare, that's one word for it .l.o.l. -- Cuz, like Bill said .. it's the "kiss of death" down South ...
BTW ran a car-fax on my loaner/test drive 99 white 4x4 Nav, clean title, registered commercial in 6-99, did about 16/12/18k mi per year respectively, last inspection was two months and shows up for sale about a month ago
I wonder w/ a navigator, maybe someone is taking advantage of the weight tax laws, and therefore registered commercial, or could this be a bad thing?
Or is it likely they have less invested in this vehicle if it was a business person who traded in on new Escalade??
Gotta go back there in a few hours, any info is appreciated. I don't know how to figure out what type of organization registered it.
I have a question about Ford's X-Plan pricing (Partner Recognition Program; I work for Lockheed). I can get a 2002 Limited Explorer at a set X-plan price of $32,452. It has a MSRP of $35,755. I have been out playing the last couple of days .. so I mighta' missed some of your posts.
I wouldn't worry much about commercial stuff, it doesn't mean much -- it can be lease's structured. via Corp's, it can be lease's via private owners .. back to themselves, it can be vehicles bought by "ABC Lease Co." then leased to their own customer, etc. etc. I buys lot's of em', if it's clean and nice, don't give it a second thought.
Did I read something about Escalades and Tahoe's ..?
I posted a message awhile back inquiring about 99-00 escalades and commenting on the relative platform between those and their cousin the tahoe
but my main concern is pegging a value for this nav i'm driving overnight about to return or make and offer on
details a couple posts back 99 4x4 white 45k mi these come pretty loaded so only true options i see is the changer it has rear air and climate control, but think this is standard, IOW no slider/tv etc
also provided info on condition and dlr asking price etc, and what you pegged general numbers for random 99 w/ less mi at in a previous post, but wanted you to peg this one if possible
..... Ok, let's see here .. it's a 99, 4WD, it's got 45k, it has all the toy's ..? dual air, chromes, slider .. right ..?
Pretty nice vehicle all the way around .. right ..?
I can't see the dealer having much more than $24 in it unless he fell down and hit his head .. to me, $23 is the figure .. and $25 takes it home on the push ..
Check the Vin# through the dealer network at Lincoln or a Ford dealer, that will give any service history .. and previous owner.
No slider, but it is clean I'm pretty meticulous and I can't find anything wrong with it. I think I'd buy it for $25, I was running some scenarios where if I purchased it for $25 I had a good feeling about it. Thanks for the feedback.
Good idea on the service, I'll ck that angle out. I'm learning, slowly but surely.
..... I don't have to tell Ya, the miles are not your friend here.
If the air will blow you out, the tires are deep, it looks and runs like a 98 and it needs -0- .. then you are in and around that $2ish figure on a trade ...
Terry, could you give me some input on post #8336? I'm thinking about buying in the next couple of weeks. Also, I will be making up the difference after trade in with cash. Is there anything I should be careful of or any advice on that matter?
..... Aaaaah yes, The "friends and family" program ... it's a good deal, you are right at invoice and you are getting the rebate also ..
So unless you want to make yourself pyschotic, and run from dealer to dealer, have anxiety attacks, stay up nights with the "cold sweats" and have bowel problems .. I would take it... l.o.l...
*So unless you want to make yourself pyschotic* - l.o.l. Tell me about it. It's worth it just what you save in therapy bills alone. hehe. Thanks for the input. Could you also give me trade in value on the '99 EB Explorer I listed? Thanks. John
Also, trying to decide to either trade in my Jeep or sell it on my own.
Black/Grey Int. 1991 Jeep Wrangler 4x4 STD 61K miles, orig owner, orig alloy wheels (5), tilt steering wheel, 180 HP 4.0 HO 6 cyl., am/fm, recl, fron seats, rear seat, 5-sp, no air (it is a REAL jeep), 5 new Goodyear Wrangler GS-A tires (OEM size), new clutch, overall nice shape, runns like a top
I am selling it becasue I am tired of no a/c and getting my kidneys shaken out on these New Orleans streets...and I am not 20 yrs. old anymore.
What do you think I could get from dealer vs. on my own?
Denver is certainly the place to sell them! (I would be looking on eBay for one in Florida or Texas...)
Up there they are strong. Every bit of $14K and then some across the block if it is mint.
So I am sure they are asking $17,995 for them. I'd say they got $15Kish in them soaking wet, and $16,500-17,000 should buy you a super nice one, but $16,500 should be your target.. that oughta get it done.
This car is worth what it is worth.. You may find an independent who can retail the car to be a tiny bit more agressive than a franchise guy, but it is worth what it is worth.
That's not bad...recently I've been heaping much grief on a buddy of mine with a (leased!) '99 Passat with 96k...he is so going to get bent over the desk when his lease is up in December...
Actually I said 73,000; but that's not that big of a difference. As for the windshield, I plan on getting that replaced. The radio problem is apparently documented by Ford as a problem and might can be easily fixed...we'll see. So with that said do you still think $8K? Edmund's lists it as at the least a $10K trade-in car even with the heavy milage. I value your advice and don't want to be unrealistic with the dealer.
Yeah he's gonna get bent over without grease... but.. WHO drove the car 33K a year? Hmm?
Auburn: The thing is, a lot of those calculators cant really adjust for really high miles. Go re-do your car, now with 325K miles and see what happens...
I mean, you could see $8,5000, but that's a bit of a stretch. Car will do mid 8s to maybe $9K across the block I think, (It is Wedgewood...) but then they gotta get it cleaned, dragged out there..etc.
I'd sign off on it at $8K, $8,200 if you started hollering...

Or is it likely they have less invested in this vehicle if it was a business person who traded in on new Escalade??
Gotta go back there in a few hours, any info is appreciated. I don't know how to figure out what type of organization registered it.

Terry :-)
but my main concern is pegging a value for this nav i'm driving overnight about to return or make and offer on
details a couple posts back 99 4x4 white 45k mi these come pretty loaded so only true options i see is the changer it has rear air and climate control, but think this is standard, IOW no slider/tv etc
also provided info on condition and dlr asking price etc, and what you pegged general numbers for random 99 w/ less mi at in a previous post, but wanted you to peg this one if possible

Terry.
Good idea on the service, I'll ck that angle out. I'm learning, slowly but surely.

If the air will blow you out, the tires are deep, it looks and runs like a 98 and it needs -0- .. then you are in and around that $2ish figure on a trade ...
Sounds like one heck of a deal on the "G" ..!
Terry.
I'm thinking about buying in the next couple of weeks. Also, I will be making up the difference after trade in with cash. Is there anything I should be careful of or any advice on that matter?
So unless you want to make yourself pyschotic, and run from dealer to dealer, have anxiety attacks, stay up nights with the "cold sweats" and have bowel problems .. I would take it... l.o.l...
No muss, No fuss ..
Terry.

What do you think I could get from dealer vs. on my own?
Yes, this will get whipped a bit... Miles are way high I am afraid... Crack in windsheild, bad radio...jeez...
This is, I am afraid, a $7,500-8K truck..
X-Plan? Take the deal. No hassle, upfront, cheap.
Bill
25K is pretty steep. Against a Honda? Uhh...why??
This is a solid $25,500 car. Maybe $26K... Miles hurt it a bit, but it's still good merchandise.
I bet ya could pop it in the paper for $29,900 and see $29K tho! (Although you do get a tax credit...)

Bill
This car is worth what it is worth.. You may find an independent who can retail the car to be a tiny bit more agressive than a franchise guy, but it is worth what it is worth.
In this case, low $7Ks...
Hope this helps!
Bill
I am in Orlando too!
That car is worth a lot less with Black/Black color combo here. It';s just too hot! You uhh.. you been outside today yet?
Bill
That's not bad...recently I've been heaping much grief on a buddy of mine with a (leased!) '99 Passat with 96k...he is so going to get bent over the desk when his lease is up in December...
Sorry man...
Bill
Hence the grief I give him... :-)
