    Howdy,

I have a low-mileage (11k) 2001 F-150 XL, 6Cyl, Manual, CD, Sliding rear-window, Cruise, Bed Liner, AC, Tilt and that's about it. Can you give me an idea what it's worth in the real world?

    Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks for the help. I have a few more questions if you dont mind answering. =)

I checked up on the edmunds trade-in value for the car with the following characteristics.

1.8t-a4-2000-35k miles and the trade-in value is ~17k$. So the 'audi' dealership would give someone looking to trade in their a4, $2k more than what the dealership can get at the auction?

How are the audi's you see at the manheim auction places? are they in good condition? is it possible to pick one where it is guaranteed not to be a lemon, r have been in any accidents?

when i think of auctions, i picture the ones they show on TV where the cars are beat up and such. =)

... .. Really say can't say on that particular one .. could have miles, could be a base model ... and not to get this subject all stured up again, it could be Canadian ..

But, the TBirds with the tops, the shifters, premium pack, few miles and the right color, are doing a Ton more than that.

what a 2002 Civic SI 5-speed would be worth? It has 2000 miles on it, white exterior/black interior, not a scratch or a nick in sight, non-smoker, sunroof, CD, cruise, keyless, power everything. I just went and drove a new 03 Accord and loved it. I know I will take a beating on the 02 SI but it might be worth it depending on much of a hit it is. The car is in Atlanta.

your old man is right; hard to figure out what this thing is worth... if he wants it, he ain't gonna find another one for a while; the people selling it will have a hard time finding someone else.
Meaning, they oughtta be able to come to an agreement.
Also, sounds like he's going about it the right way, and you are to be commended for asking here. This kinda stuff, you gotta ask Terry -- he knows everything. This vehicle is in AL, right?

Finally, go to your room and sit in the corner for awhile and think about how you talk about your old man in a public place. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. Sounds like you're young enough to still think it through and maybe straighten out. I suspect he's earned a little respect. With that dig about you "not needing" the college fun, he sounds like my kinda guy. Maybe he's trying to tell you something.

Let us know how the van thing turns out.

.... Hi Wyn, hows your day ..?

. ..l.o.l... Most people have watched the movie "Used Cars" and have the same idea as you do.

Actually, it's a 180 degree jump from that. Dealers, Lease co's, Banks all use the auctions to "turn and burn" their inventories ..

At all the big auctions in the country, they are run like a fine Swiss watch, the vehicles are detailed to the max before they run the chutes and it's hard to hide stuff then. You have to "declare" any damage, TMU anything that might be hinky, like title and such. If there is a mileage discrepancy, the vehicle can go back, same with frame or title problems.

The dealers and such, aren't there cuz' they like auctions, their there, to move the beautiful Accord that's been on his lot for 60/80/100+ days and isn't going anywhere, or that "jam-up" Buick 99 Regal with 19k, that just won't sell .. or, that 92 Olds with 127,000 miles on it that they had to take on trade - and that puppy isn't staying on his lot .l.o.l..

Depending on the auction, there can be 3/4/5,000+ vehicles that can run in a day, Audi's, Cavaliers, BMW's, Hyundai's, Volvo's, Fords, Porsche's, Kia's .. l.o.l.. well you get the idea.

See, what the most important thing that folks don't realize is, dealers are there too buy .. yep, to purchase. Maybe they have had a great month in selling new vehicles, but the good trades may be less than 20%, so they need to stock up, and they will buy 10/20/30 vehicles at a shot. (or so they hope)

And no, I don't think you are going to see $17, unless it has 12k, it's an auto and it's Quattro ..

    I hope this helps ....

.... Ok, two questions ... is this a high or a low top Conversion ..?

And who made the conversion ..?

Is it a Starcraft, Explorer, Tiara, etc, etc.

You can find out by whats on the spare in the back, or the sides.

It sounds like a "freak" .. (which is a good thing) .. it's a DSL, it's a 1 ton and the miles are low for the year ..

Does it have TV's, sound, vcr's, dual air, power bed in the back, etc, etc. .. I need a little more info here ...

And Yes, I AGREE with Mathias .. How would you like your Dad to drop by, and tell us what a brat you are ... l.o.l.... gheeeez.

    Terry.
  • larryg10larryg10 Member Posts: 3
It is a high top, good thing I can like stand without messing up my hair.

Not sure about the conversion, my dad said universal or superior but he's not sure, figures.

"Does it have TV's, sound, vcr's, dual air, power bed in the back, etc, etc" Yes it has all the above. One TV.

    Thanks, ANGEL

    ..... Wow, 2k ..? It's gotta be like new ..

So you like the new Accords that much ..huh.?

These SI's are strong in the market .. so if you gotta have a new, new, new one, then the SI should do the high $16's on a trade.

    Hey, good luck ...

...... It's got no miles, so I'm sure it's nice .. but it's a handshaker and a 6cyl, yeow.! Actually the 6 won't hurt it toooo bad, it's that darn meat clever.

In and around the ultra high $9's, low $10's, depending on the dealer on a trade ...

Hi, Parody aside. And thanks for going along.. just adding a little levity.

Do you think you'll be able to take a guess as to the value of the diesel Conversion as described.

    Hi Terry,
How often are you in the PA area attending the auctions?

Im planning to sell my 2.8, i was wondering what do you think I can get going through the public.

    the car-
    a4 2.8 1998
    43,000 miles
    automatic tip-tronic
    black leather interior
    silver
    heated and power seats
    excellent condition

kbb and edmunds has it priced around 18-19k.
What do you think I can get selling privately?

    so a a4 - 1.8t - quattro - 2000 - 35k miles - at the dealer auctions go for $15k

    and s4 quattro 2000 30k miles go for $28k

how much do the a4 2.8 manual's go for?

    thanks for the help.

Thanks for helping get a fix on pricing for two previous cars - a Civic and an Accord. Both sold for "fair" prices - one private, one trade-in.

Looking to trade in a 1999 Ody LX, in Philly/South Jersey. 86,000 miles (all highway), Granite Green, roof rack. Nice condition, waxed at least 4x per year with Carnuba, non-smoking vehicle. Has floor mats.

Think we can go $14k for a trade? I'm looking to trade up for a 2003 Odyssey LX. Most dealers can't keep used ones on their lots, so this could be a win-win. Is 86k miles too high for the dealer to consider selling as "certified"?

    Thanks,

    Paul

I'm getting ready to unload my 2001 Jetta GLX five-speed and I was wondering if someone could give me an idea what a fair trade-in value for the car would be. It has 17000 miles on it, and aside from a small paint chip on the front hood and a (repaired) chip in the glass (darn cinders they use when it snows here in PA), and a slight dent in the hood (tree branch during a thunderstorm) the car is in excellent condition. All scheduled maintenance has been performed by the dealer. I am hoping to trade it in on a BMW 3-series at a local VW/BMW dealer and wanted to be prepared for what I have in store. I would appreciate any guidance you could give, including whether it would make sense to have the dent beaten out.

Here's part of an ebay add...

"You are bidding on a 2002 Nissan Maxime SE. This is the hard to fine 6Speed manual transmission with the new line 3.5L engine of Nissan. It comes with cloth interior, driver side power seat,cd & cassette player,17 inch wheels, rear spoiler, xenon head lights & more. It does have salvage title history due to an accident. It has been fully repaired & restored.Professional body work & paint work has been done on this vehicle, the car has the original factory color. There was no structural or mechanical damage. All airbags & safety of the vehicle is original & in functional condition. This Maxima is no different than the new one & we reserve a very low & reasonable price for it. Bid with confident & good luck. don't forget to give us a call for any question (xxx)xxx-xxxx. Serious buyers only please."

Exactly how much damage does it take to be worthy of a "Salvage Title", and how can anyone say with a straight face that this wreck is "no different that the new one"? Scariest of all, someone will buy this thing!!!

How are 2000 Corvette Coupes doing at the auctions? Say 25K Miles, 6 speed, loaded, Navy over tan interior. In Bay Area. What's your feeling on the cars in general, and are used ones typically pretty beaten when they hit the auction?

Looking at another MB ML320 from an individual that is in very good shape, all records, well maintained. . .White/Tan leather, CD changer, sunroof, Navigation located here in Dallas, Texas.

Problem is miles - 68,000. They are highway (verified thru mutual friend that he commuted to/from dallas/San antonio). . .

He is asking $27,500 which I know is high but what will he get on trade so I can come in just above it? I am thinking I should offer $23,000?

    Thanks again!

.... Not a bad little vehicle, at all.

It's a LX, so you have the power package and it's an auto, plus the miles aren't bad for the year .. hard to break these little devils. It's that ugly "no sale" brown I bet ..l.o.l..

Except for a few minor kisses here and there .. and the fascia isn't all burned off, no weird little creatures living in the back seat and new rubber - on a trade, in and around that $4,5 figure, maybe a little more if it's real special.

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... $23 is very fair, you are right on the "money" .. A Benz dealer isn't going to hit it for much more than $20ish ..

You guys save tax money on the net .. right .?

68 klicks .. wow, it's only a 00 ... this guy needs to use Federal Express.

..... Vette's right now are starting to slow down a tinge ... Fall is here and the market will start to slow - a loaded up 00 25k Vette with heated bun warmers, sound, mags, heads up, will still pull around $30ish , miles are the killer here ..

If it had 6/12k, it might do $33 if it was a "baby doll" .. depending on the dealer and what area of the country.

I buy alot of Vettes, probably 30/35 a year .. what can I say, they are wonderful vehicles, folks love em', great resale and there is always a market --- Me personally, I'm not a Vette, Porsche, Lotus, Ferrari guy, I'm boring .. give me a GS430 Lexus or an E or a CL Class Benz and I'm set to go.

But, to answer your question .. there is tons of ultra clean, ultra nice, low mileage Vettes that cruise the auctions along with the, P, L and F's and the rest of those vehicles I can't get into .. or out of. Do you see some beaters that drive through, yes there is a few .. but as a whole, high end dealers pay for the good stuff and the other stuff just goes home .. again.. l.o.l..

    I hope this helps ...

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... The miles are tall, tall, tall .. but, it's a Yota with all the stuff and a good color combo ..

So if everything works, if it looks like a 99, the interior doesn't look like it got in a fight with a Pit Bull and the service is 100% .. then you should be around $4 on a trade.

This would be a great vehicle for Retail Rd. .. a Super detail, all the records ready, (you got the new tires), $6,9 in the paper and I will bet you will see $5,8/$6,5 on the trip to the Bank .. Yota fans have no fear of 100k.

    think about it ...

    Hey terry, curious about trade/retail
02 trailblazer LS 4x4 Indigo metallic Blue
build date 08-01 10K on the odo
    leather steering/trim(not seats)
    A/T(31") tires instead of OE(29")
    Deep tinted side/rear glass(OE)/tinted fronts(35%)
    Rear Air
    Keyless
No onstar/slider, etc. basically a stripped LT

Hope thats enough info. Plan to sell in a year and curious how its doing for resell. I have some scratches in it from the trails, mostly on bottom half of door, and replacing front bumper 'cause I squished it on the trail (worth the $500?) No dings in the body, just small scratches... interior immaculate.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... The miles are ok, good color and it's 4x4 .. anytime you go to trade a vehicle, get the scratches, dents, etc removed .. and don't forget to get a good cleaning at trade time.

Dealers see a dirty, scratched up vehicle and they knock off $500/$1,0/$1,500++ off the value, you may know your vehicle .. but they don't.

I love that statement at trade time, "Don't worry, It just needs a bath" - yeah, and I'm thinkin' it needs $500 of paint and body work, new tires $600, service and a detail $300 .. theres $1,400. .l.o.l..

Right now, nice ones are doing around the $20/$21 figure.

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... That's another statement I love .. Highway miles .. what else is there.?

Hi Paul, I don't think you are gonna see $14, the miles kill this one. .. if you have it 100% inside and out, deep in rubber and lookin' 20k, I'm thinkin' more on the $12ish, or less program .. but, on any given day, you may find a dealer that Has to have it and they are popular.

good luck and let us know ...

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
... It's got some small lumps and bumps and it's not an auto, miles are ok. .. but, these are very popular vehicles and you should see around the high $15's, low $16's on a trade.

This is my first time posting here. I have a 01 Ford Focus zx3 S2 special edition that i'm looking at trading in on an 02 explorer. The car is in excellent condition and has everything except moonroof - antilock- and traction control.
The color is liquid grey and is an automatic with 13000 miles.I'm also in the cental iowa region. What would be a fair trade in price? Thanks for any info. Ps- Does using the ford xplan effect the trade in price also?

Hi Terry, Thinking about having a broker pick me up a used '02 Passat GLS 1.8T at auction in Atlanta. here's the details:

    manual
silvestone grey or fresco green ext
    black or grey leather pkg.
    lux. pkg
    <15-20k
Any ideas on a fair price and/or downsides to this approach are much appreciated. thanks
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... Well, you are being reasonable on the miles, that's a good thing .. but, you wanna be more reasonable on colors, when I "chase" a vehicle, I just wanna know, what colors they Don't want.

There is many variables that happen at auctions .. condition, pricing, how many will run that day, etc, etc.

Also, you mentioned a "broker" .. what does that mean .? Does he go to auctions 2/3 times a month .? Does he buy domestics and imports all the time .. and know the "real" difference .? What type of experience does he have.? What auctions does he go to .? Stuff like that is Very important .. just cuz a dealer goes to the auction, doesn't mean he/she knows whats going on there.

So here again, you have many variables -- I would really have to know a little bit more to answer your question. But as far as pricing goes, these little Passats are doing around the high $17's, low $18's .. the lower the miles, the higher the prices.

    Hey, let us know ...

    Terry.

I think I am finally ready to dump my 95 Explorer for a new vehicle. I will buy by the end of October. I asked about six months ago what it was worth, but I never pulled the trigger on a purchase. So now I am back. Vital stats:

    95 4 door Explorer XLT
    Minneapolis
    Dark green
    81K miles
    PW
    PL
    power seats
    cruise
    tilt
    air
    rear air controls
    tow package

I think the only options that it is missing is leather and moonroof. CD changer doesn't work.

No fry's, drinks, smoke, etc. Minimal dings. Good tires and brakes. I think it is in pretty darn good shape for an 8 year old vehicle.

I will either trade it in or sell it to a co-worker. What is it worth as a trade or if I sold it myself?

One additional question. How much does the value vary across the country? If neither of you is in Minneapolis, how good is your estimate of value? I am not doubting you guys I just want to understand how close your value will be in my market.

As always, thanks. I know you don't have to do this.

In very good shape (a ding or two that should come out). In Dallas, TX and he is asking $33,000. This price looks good to me - is it?

    Thanks

I am planning to sell my 1996 4Runner SR5 4WD in Atlanta. The TMV price on Edmunds is $12,871. The price on KBB is 10,795. How should I price it? Also any suggestions on whether to put an ad in the newspaper or list it on one of the websites like autotrader.com. Also it is a 5speed. Would this affect the value?

    2000 Volvo S40.

    *White over gray leather.
*Sunroof, fog lights, rear spoiler, power seats
    *New tires.
*Car is IMMACULATE. Not a scratch on the outside or the inside.
    *Non-smoker.
*The kicker is that it has 98,000 miles on it. *They appear to be "highway" miles though ;)

How much is this car worth in the Atlanta area. It would be replacing either a pearl white 1994 Lexus LS400 Anniversary edition with 122,000 miles or a electric blue Civic SI coupe 5-speed with 33,000 miles. Is it worth getting rid of one, or both, of those cars for this Volvo.
