.... The Police report will show why and how it happened ..

I just went threw this in September, my nephews g/f's car had a "stolen" in her Carfax. l.o.l.. I checked it out, he got drunk, they got into an argument, he's in her car in Jacksonville, she calls the police, files a report, he gets stopped while the vehicle has a reported "stolen" and yatty yatty yatty .. isn't love grand .? .l.o.l... but it's on Carfax.

I have bought a few vehicles at auctions that have had a "stolen", the other 2 were before the vehicle was even titled, 1 was from a brain dead inventory check in Atlanta and the other was from a dealer calling the cops on his own wife .. l.o.l... - Love is grand.

But that doesn't mean there isn't a few out there that are "real deals", where there is some possible damage and then the value will come down, depending on the situation and the damage .. if you feel uncomfortable - Pass. This is the same type of feelings that folks get on the "re-built" discussion.

Check out the Budget guy, he should be able to pick one up for you for $21 or less, just make sure the Carfax is ok ..

Good luck .. this too will pass .l.o.l..

..... I can feel the LOVE radiating of your post .. (it's not stolen is it.?) l.o.l..

    It's a 91 with 189k and it's a EX, it's a good color, all the service "seems" to be 100% ..

Now make it look a 100% .. if everything is working, it looks 98ish, then you should ask $3,5 for it and let the first person with Cash money take it off your hands for $2,7/$3,0 ..

    I hope this helps ...

I am hoping to trade in:

    1998 Maxima GLE
Dark Green (almost Black) w/Tan Interior
    102,000 miles
I bought it at 48K miles and every scheduled check up was down at the local Nissan dealer!
    Car runs great!
No dings, except one little "pebble" nic on the front hood!
    CD-Player
    Moon Roof
    GLE comes pretty loaded anyway
A detail away from looking great!

    Thanks

    Hey Terry -
Could you give me your opinion on the trade-in/private sale value of a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4, red, 57,500 miles, excellent condition, roof rack, running boards, extended warranty (2004/75k miles), AM/FM stereo/tape, infinity sound system, alloy wheels, keyless entry, privacy glass, power package, tow package, ABS, dual airbag, leather steering wheel. I live in Southeast Virginia area.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... So your from Virrrginny .huh.? Thanks for a good description but, ... no leather, no slider, no V8 right.?

The miles are low for this one, it's a 4x4, good color, it's got the boards, Infinity, solar glass, so it has the right stuff. If the tires are deep, no paintwork, the exterior is lookin' 01 and no 3 year old food growing in the back seat ..

On a trade, you should be in and around the mid to high $7's. If you feel like wondering down Retail rd. drop it in the paper for $9,900 and let the nice Democrat take it for $8,5/$9,500 ..

    I hope this helps ...

... 100k ..? what do you do, drive from one voting booth to another to pick up votes .? gheeez ..

Color is fine, if you are a Yankee boy .. so if this puppy looks and drives 50k, new sneakers and lookin' 00, then you are going to be in that $5ish zipcode on a trade, the miles here, are a bad vote and they are killin' ya .. this might be a good Candidate for Retail rd.

    sorry ..

    hey Terry.
Thnx. for the numbers on my Jetta VR6 a week or so back. I sold that badboy the other day, just waiting on the banks to do their respective dances so I can sign the title over to the new owner.

Now I'm looking for the value/reliability of a '99 Jeep GC Limited with about 35K miles. Several are available in my area, & @ six-foot-five I don't fit into much else comfortably. Tahoes & Expeditions are way too much car for me right now. Anyway, any advice on the JGC? I'm looking to walk out the door for $18K (tax, tags, & fees included). Am I kidding myself?

A friend is trying, without much luck as yet, to sell the following:

    97 Toyota Camry LE
    automatic
a/c, power windows, locks, cassette, automatic
    black, gray cloth
no alloys, no leather, no slider
    63k miles
    Chicago, north side

It has a couple of scrapes, dings, but overall in good condition.

What is this worth on trade, and as a retail, sell-it-yourself peice? Thanx.

Ok- looking to get ride of my '98 Infiniti QX4.

    Silver
Moonroof, 6 cd-changer, relatively new tires, standard leather, etc...No heated seats, but believe that is one of the few options not installed on this vehicle.

91k miles, original owner. Relatively clean vehicle- fender bender 2 years back where rear bumper was pushed in and needed $700 worth of repairs. Other than that, nothing.

    Thanks!
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... $700 .? and that's nothing ..? If I set fire to your house and it cost $700 to repair it, would that be Nothing ...?

.. .l.o.l.... I'm just in one of my moods. Actually, if they did a reeeaall good job, it shouldn't effect it too much.

The color is right and if all the service is 100%, you should be in and around the $9's on a trade, those miles are kicking your butt.!

    I hope this helps ...

Guess what?? We put the 93 Corolla's info on about 25 computer sheets, dropped a few at the Post office, posted a few at the schools, a few at the different Malls (a few on cars) a few at the super market community boards, handed some out at church and wham! You might have thought we were having a church bazaar.

We priced it at the $4,500 and we had 6 calls in 2 days and sold it to the 2nd person that came out to the house for $4. The first guy said, we were asking way too much and could buy one just like it, for half that money, so the garage door went down on him. hehehehehe

As always, just a great big THANKS!
We appreciate all your help and love all your crazy comments!

I have two cars, one I bought that I want your opinion on to see if I got a good deal and one my girlfriend is selling or about to sell and needs to know a good asking price.

    Ladies first:

1997 Cavalier coupe, black, 65k miles, automatic, power moonroof, ac, tape, new tires, new battery, extior very clean, interior average to slightly above average.

    Now my new ride:

1998 BMW 528i 5sp, 80k miles, CPO 6 yr/100 warranty remaining, jet black, black leather, premium pkg, power moonroof, heated seats and steering wheel, new tires, shocks, brakes, recently had scratches taken out on the hood by the dealership, on board computer. I ended up getting the car off of Ebay in an auction locally for $16,500, is that a good price?
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... But the question is: what's in the glove box .?

Great description .. BUT, what's the color and where do you live ..?

Now, you have no choice .. start packing. You now live in Lexington, Kentucky and the vehicle is drk brown metallic.

The miles are on the stiff side .. but you got this puppy all loaded up, all the stuff. Let's "assume" it has no paintwork, new sneakers, no axe murders in the back seat, the service is 110% and it looks and drives like a 20k vehicle .. on a trade, you should be in that high $18, low $19 zipcode. These are reeeaall popular, so it's a goody on a trade and on the retail side ..

Hey good luck and let me know ...

    Terry.

Dark green, auto, turbo 5cyl engine, leather, slider, all-around nice car, 67k miles.
Belongs to a guy here at work, and the darned thing is in the shop for $N every few months; he's getting tired of it. What's it worth on a trade and on the street?

    Thanks in advance as always,

... That's the best of all the colors, anywhere. You "might" be able to force feed another $300/$500 out of the right dealer, cuz Kentucky and Virginia is pretty close anyway ...

  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... The miles aren't bad for the year .. believe it or not, I buy a lot of 97 and 98's cuz they are a great vehicles for a cash buyer ..

You know the drill, if it needs a detail then get her done, if it needs some service then get her done .. on a trade, he should be looking at around the low to mid $6's depending on the dealer and if he staggers down Retail Rd, then $7,9 in the paper and $7,5 or so, takes it home.

Good luck .. and let me know ..

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
... It "sounds" like it could be a nice one .. it has no miles for the year, it's a T5, the color is good for the area, as a rule these puppies sell quite well.

It's in the shop a lot .? Tell him not to park it by that recirculator you guys have, it probably has particles in the fuel line.

It should do the ultra high $8's low $9's on a trade .. and if he makes it look like a "baby doll" it should do $10,900 for an asking and take $9,9 if need be, I would think some college kid will grab it in a hurry, did you read the CNN report, hottest vehicle at Colleges.

The GC is a 4WD, 35,500 miles, fully loaded with a 10-disc changer & tow package. Owner is asking $17,9. I'll probably offer $16,5 & go from there.

    Too good to be true?
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
The Camry is in 'decent' shape (I think it has a scrape on one of the back doors), and he's asking $8k with no takers yet. They're nice cars, and practically 'sell themselves', but there's nothing in particular to set this one above (miles, condition, options) the rest, so he might have to get a bit more aggressive on the price.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... These things still get ALL the money .. the miles will shy some folks away, but most won't have a problem with it.

It's a good color and if it's super clean, no parking lot kisses, no paintwork, deep in the rubber side, interior is lookin' 30kish and service is 100%, then $29,900 seems kinda cheap .. have it checked out, if it's all there, then I would be a player, cuz these things get crazy money ...

    Let me know ..

... Good morning .. this dude has like nooo miles and it's a 4x4 and it's a Grand, I'm guessing it has new sneakers, V8 .?

Right now, the ultra clean ones are doing $15++ at the the auctions, so they are getting some jingle .. hit him at your number, be a little flexible and see what happens .. good luck.

Personally, I like these GC's, I have towed with em', bounced a few off some walls and they are still runnin' like junk yard dogs with 100k .. SUV's are really personal taste, so if this fit's the bill - glad too hear you dusted that last vehicle ..

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... The Cavaliers aren't bad little vehicles, but they are all over the place in a huge abundance ..

Even though it's a 97, the miles are on the tall side for a domestic of this type, it's a coupe, not much going on for it .. I'm guessing it's an RS .. right.?

On a trade, maybe in the mid to low $2's .. on the retail side, do all the service, a detail, whatever it takes to make it look and drive like a 01 .. in the paper for $4,5 and if need be, drop kick that puppy off the driveway for $3,5 ..

Now on your side of the fence - Extreeeme miles, it's a handshaker and as a rule, you would be sucking air right now.

But you have all the service, the warranty and it has all the stuff .. at $16,5 you did good, real good. If you had to ditch this beauty at a dealer auction, you might see the high $15's, so you are just fine .. good job.!

Looking to trade-in my 1997 Audi A4 4cyl Turbo Quattro. Automatic. Black exterior and black leather interior. 88k miles. Sunroof. Just replaced turbo. New engine in July. Philadelphia, PA area. Drives fine to me. Looks good.

Problems: Shop that just replaced turbo says car seems to be running "slow" and wants to investigate the problem (using my powertrain warranty). Don't want to spend any more money, go through the hassle.

Hoping to trade in for a used, lower mileage Jetta. ('99, 30k)

Any thoughts on trade-in value? Better to sell myself and disclose potential problems? Thanks.

I posted my message about a month ago about buying my friend's 1999 328i
We finally got to the negotiation process and the price came down to $21,500
It is jet black 1999 BMW 328i with 45000 miles Opitions include sports package, premium package, steptronic transmission, xenon headlamps, trunk mounted CD changer and it is in good condition.
I wanted to know whether this was a good deal or not because I have to give him the answer as soon as possible....
    Thanks
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... $21,5 is a cheap figure, on the retail side it would be over $25 .. so you are doing fine, just fine - so hook up.!

    Terry.
  • msealsmseals Member Posts: 257
Thanks for the help, I am glad to hear that I got a good deal on the 528i, I really love the car, in just two days it has really spoiled me on german cars. Especially since my last car was a 2000 Civic Si. This is light years better than that in every way, and it still is just as fast.

I have one more question, I was wondering if I got my girlfriend a good deal on her new car. It is a 2000 Grand Am GT coupe, red, completely loaded, every option except leather, moonroof, CD/tape, power seats, new tires, new brakes mint condition inside and out. It has 21k miles on it and the owner said he has used nothing but synthetic for oil changes. I negotiated $12k even, is that a good deal?
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Man, you have been a busy little beaver, haven't you .?

The miles are low on this puppy .. but new brakes, new tires at 21k .? Grand Am's aren't bad little vehicles, especially on the V6 side, but there sure is a Kazillion of em' out there .. $12 isn't bad, I'm thinkin' more towards the $11 side, but the low miles and being "ultra" clean, is a little hard too shop.

Soooo, what are you going to buy this week .?

    Terry :-))
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... Thanks for a good description and the area ..

Miles are on the Tall side for this dude, but the color, the options and it being a auto gives it a little help ..

Can't say about all the brain damage mechanically, it could be the shop is putting their kids through Penn State or Lehigh l.o.l. .. on a trade, you are going to be around the low $6's.

Sooo, if you decide to go down Retail Rd. start it up at $8,9 and let some nice graduate student take it home for $7,5/$8,5 - just make sure it looks 01, deep in rubber, nice Ad, show the service reports, sure makes it a lot easier.

    Let me know ...

I've been looking to buy a Passat Wagon, and see one listed at a dealer that's close to my specs:

1999 Volkswagen Passat Wagon 1.8t GLS
    VW Certified Pre-Owned
    manual transmission, 32k
    dark red over gray cloth
    alloys, sunroof, heated mirrors
    no premium stereo, no cd

I'm on the Virginia/Carolina border. I haven't gone up to look at it yet, so don't know it's condition. Just wondering what the retail range might be in the real world...

    Thanks!

Thanks again, I am done shopping for now, the car buying bug hits me about every three years or so. I am not trying to shop my 2000 Civic Si that I mentioned earlier. I am hoping to get about $11,500 for it even though the miles are on the high side at 65k, it is in mint condition though, inside and out. I am a car guy so I like to keep my vehicles clean inside and out.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332

....... Hi Karlyn, thanks for a great description .. it's the right color, it has all the options (no cd.?) and the miles are waaay looow ..

It's a handshaker so the dealer didn't step up that much. So let's figure with the "certified" stuff a little this and a little that he can't have much more than $12 in it, a fair deal for both would be around $13ish and some change ..

    let me know ..

Was offered 5700 for it but turned it down thinking it might be too low.
It is a green Acura integra 1996 2 door GSR coupe with leather seats and spoiler.
It has 95,000 miles has good body condition, needs a timing belt.

Was the offer too low, or reasonable?

I have a 2003 Toyota Matrix with 6000 miles, I love the vehicle and am not looking to get rid of it, but my question has to do with the value of the vehicle.

This weekend my car was hit with a baseball bat shattering the front driver side glass and putting a small dent and scratch on the body. If I had this fixed would it negatively affect the value of the car. I have had some previous paint work done ($500) worth when the car was rearended. The shop did a very good job and the paint match is dead on. Should I get the dent and scratch repaired or just leave it?

Sorry for Rambling and thanks for your insight.

Well Terry, I have come full circle. I started out many months ago looking at Pathfinders and after going through every vehicle on the lots...I have come back to the Pathy.

The miles on the LX470 spooked my wife, and we all know that she is the boss.......right?

So here is the deal that I think I will make this Friday:

2001 Metalic Beige Pathy LE, slider, tint, 6-disc, autoclimatecontrol, trailer hitch, running boards, roof rack, deep rubber, 2WD, with...get ready....11K miles!

The downsides are manual seats, and no leather. But I think I will be adding leather soon for $900.

It is a perfect car and looks "showroom new" inside and out for sure. the carfax says it was a "Nissan corp vheicle" until 7K miles and the dealer said that the UC Mgr. has been driving it for the other 4K. It has been sitting on the lot for 6 months and they are talking $22.5K while swearing that they are losing money. I have not attempted any negotiation.

What do you think? What is the best I can do? What would this do at auction?

The search may finally be over...let me know.

72,000 miles, 4WD, automatic, aftermarket CD, appears to be in good shape. Dealer likes to advertise using KBB (read that as inflated) retail values and has this one at $12,500 (kbb trade-in value is ~$7500).

I was thinking of trading in my 2002 Accord EX sedan (4 cyl, auto) with 25,000 miles for it (need the 4WD).

I was thinking of offering $9,000-10,000 for the Pathfinder and taking $18,000 for my Accord (pay-off on the Accord is $18,000). Since the dealer seems to like the kbb, the $18,000 is right between trade-in and retail for the Accord and the $10,000 is right in the middle of the trade-in and the retail for the Pathfinder. Doees this sound reasonable?

Thanks for all of your help Terry! BTW, whatever happened to Bill, I haven't heard from him for awhile?
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... I guess your wife is just one of those people ..

Well this one has no miles, right color, slider, boards, missing a few things, but not much .. if they bought it 6 months ago, then they might have $22+ in it ..

If they ran it through the block today, it would do the tall $19's, could see $20ish and some change .. start em' up at $21 and see what goes on from there .. I wouldn't loose it, it sounds nice ..

good luck and let me know ...!

For a new car, the auto might be $800-1000 more per sticker/invoice. But I think it's more than that. I just got a 5sp '03 Accord LX. Got it for well below invoice. I doubt I would have gotten as much of a discount for an automatic. Therefore the stick shift out the door cost is probably $1500 less than the automatic.

I enjoy driving a car like this with a stick. I wouldn't get any fun driving a stick shift pickup truck.
