Oh, I don't think he's selling a LOT of Town Cars, just more Navigators and Town Cars than anything else he has, that's what he's saying. That's about all that is selling at his store.

Was having a problem with dead battery, had it checked by mechanic no draw on battery when car was off. This had happened several times, so I decided to watch the car one night to see if anything strange was going on. Sure enough the interior lights came on every 10-15 minutes, stayed on about a minute then shut off. So for a quick fix I disconnected battery. Any suggestions on what the problem can be?
I'd suspect the key pad. You mentioned the lights come on for about a minute and then turn off again. Try this. Push the keypad so the interior lights come on.Time how long they stay on for. Then time them when they come on automatically. If they stay on for the same length of time, they keypad would be my guess.
While at the keypad, enter the code necessary to unlock the driver's door, press the last digit again to unlock the other doors, then press the 5/6 key to open the trunk. While the trunk is open disconnect the Negative cable to the battery for about 2 or 3 minutes. Reconnect the battery and close all doors and trunk. The process may reset the keypad for you. (you may have to reset the radio buttons too)
Where di you hear that from from? I havn't read or seen anything about the TC going FWD. If that's case so would the Crown Vic and Grand Marquis. I don't think Ford would be stupid enough to get rid of RWD when they are the only American made cars with RWD. I don't think they would want to give up the taxi, police car business. GM did and I think that hurt them a great beal.
"I don't think Ford would be stupid enough to get rid of RWD when they are the only American made cars with RWD. I don't think they would want to give up the taxi, police car business"
Chuck, you need to quit reading and get to the showroom!
I think its interesting that Chrysler, historically one of the FWD leaders, has now returned to RWD - I assume because that's where they think the buying public wants them to go ....... and Ford is going 180 degrees in the other direction.
Yeah scoot well done!....BFD But you still haven't answered my question where did you read (or see in a showroom) that the LTC was going FWD? By the way the is nothing wrong with reading. What is the showroom going to tell me. Are the cop car Magnum and Charger there? Your right it's interesting that Chrysler is going RWD and Ford (if' it's actually true) going FWD. Personally I prefer the RWD..
A couple of months ago, someone posting on this board had a link to an auto magazine article about the TC going FWD in the 2008 model year. I read it in the Washington Post, too.
Reading is a good thing, indeed. The showroom visit would have just reminded you that there are American made RWD's out there. You probably just forgot. That's OK.
" think its interesting that Chrysler, historically one of the FWD leaders, has now returned to RWD - I assume because that's where they think the buying public wants them to go"
I'm not sure of that assumption - I think it's because Mercedes has no FWD platforms that I'm aware of, so they are bringing those platforms over to Chrysler, and they HAPPEN to be RWD. It coincides with the tides in this country, happily for them.
A long time ago, with great luck, I won enough money from the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas and instead of putting it back into the casino I purchased a 1992 Town Car (just background). Absolutely the best car ever made, and I have owned them all. The 1992 TC had over 350K+ miles when I gave it to my brother-in-law this year. Since 1998 (other than oil changes) I've only replaced the drivers side windshield wiper..Nothing else. In fact, since new the only mechanical or electrical parts changed were the brakes and rotors and two batteries. What say yea oh european or rice burner owners. I, personally, do not know of another long time TC owner who had significant problems... In Fortune magazine during the 80s there was a very interesting interview with the esteemed CEO of the "new Chrysler Corp" about quality. He responded by quoting the number of complaints about the Dodge Stealth and the Mitsubishi 300. Seems the rate of complaints were 35 percent higher for the Dodge and yet they came down the same assembly line, same parts and same people doing the work, only the chrome was different. Lee was astounded Americans were so "tilted" that anything with an asian nameplate was good, USA bad... When the GM plant in Van Nuys closed with the loss of thousands of high paying jobs, people drove by in their hondas & toyotas and wondered how that could have happened, "must have been Reaganomics". Just venting, as we (USA) are now the cheap labor for other countries, and glad to have the jobs. For reasons unknown we have gone from being the Cadillac of the world to the Hugos of the third world. Any solutions??
It sounds like you are looking for the kinds of discussions we have on our News & Views board. We're just talking about the Town Car here.
I need to ask you not to use rice-related vehicle terms. I know you meant no offense, but since they arose from an ethnic slur we don't use them here in our Forums. If you have any questions about this, feel free to email me.
Meanwhile, let's let this discussion get back to the Town Car. Again, welcome and enjoy our discussions!
Let's hope you are premature in your indictment, scooter, and that someone at Ford can get in touch with what Lincoln is supposed to be again, and bring out some product. And, then, let's hope gas isn't $5,00 a gallon, and that we aren't wishing our V-8s were 4 bangers.
For a book I'm writing, one of my characters is reading aloud from the window sticker of a 1978 Lincoln Town Car with a 460 CID 4-barrel carburetor. Would the following words have actually been printed on the sticker? “460 CID 4-barrel carburetor" Or would this be something someone could only determine by looking under the hood? Thanks.
460 Cubic Inch Displacement is the engine size. 4 barrel Carburetor is the type of carb. The window sticker woiuld say that but not in that format. The engine size and the carb would be listed separately, or it would say something like "460 CID V-8 engine with 4-barrel carburetor"
Would the carb have been listed at all if it wasn't optional or part of a performance package - neither of which was the case for this car?
Anybody old enough to remember would be around 50 and therefore has already forgotton anyway, so the book could say anything reasonable and nobody would be the wiser.
Ford would have referred to the optional engine as a 460-4V and the standard engine was the 400-2V (The real name is a 4 venturi carburetor, not 4 barrel)
We have a 97 TC, (actually this is my husband's car -- he really loves the look and most of the car) thinking of trading it for a 2003 or 2004 TC -- after reading your post, don't feel too confident about a new Lincoln. Like the drive, comfit and all about the TC (except for the Engine Light being on most of the time - computer diagnostics have not found the problem yet. And the Anti theft alarm that goes off in the middle of the night, we are checking the door switches out - thanks to your advice).
We don't know anything about other cars, in your view, when looking to purchase a replacement for the 97 TC -- what is comparable to the way Lincolns were, when designed for retail customers? We like a luxury car, not small like the LS. Thanks! :confuse:
Your Town Car is 8 years old, April. You seem to be expecting 0 problems with it, which is unrealistic. The Town Car, particularly the 95-97 years, is among the most reliable cars made in the world, per Consumer Reports and every other comparison agency I know. But after 8 years, you're going to have a few issues from time to time. Your alarm issue is very annoying and a real problem to be sure, but you can't hold that against a manufacturer, or brand of cars made today. Town Cars still are very reliable cars, able to actually jump curbs with no damage - which is why they are the favorite of all makes for Limosines and stretching wheelbases. You can't judge what a replacement 94 Town Car would be like based upon what your 97 is doing to you now. However, by the time the 94 is 8 years old, you may have to repair something again. That's how it is. :surprise:
You are about that. I have a 1990 TC and it has 147,000 miles. up until last year I never spent a penny on unexpected repairs. Even my mechanic I had for 8 years was inpresssed! I'd rather fixed this one over and over than shell out over 40 grand for a new one. Besides the styling on the 1990 to 1997 is better.

And yet Ford is in some mad dash to replicate GM's 1990's near death march of an all V-6 FWD line up. Sad.

Hey! You're getting personal here.....
I would say anyone on the Town Car forum should be offended, since we all probably qualify under this criteria!
I qualify. And you're right, I do feel a little offended, now that you mention it.
So there you go. Between the two of us we've managed to offend everybody.
