Damn, now I have to research Title 10 (military?). Thanks for the homework.
  • fedlawmanfedlawman Member Posts: 3,118
I picked up my Concorde Limited today! It's Deep Saphire Blue Pearl Coat with Dark Slate Grey interior. The only extras are the 11 speaker, 340 watt stereo and full-size chrome spare.

It's a joy to behold and drive. The dark metallic blue is gorgeous in the sun and I love the interior cockpit layout and feel.

I haven't really checked out the performance yet as I plan on taking it easy during break-in.

Gripes? The stereo is better than average...except for the bass, which is flabby and easily distorts. The ride is slightly harsh for such a big car. The controls (turn signal, lights, radio knobs, etc.) have kind of a cheap feel to them.

Overall, the negatives are trivial. It's a beautiful, comfortable, stylish car...the nicest I've ever "owned."

Maybe someday Edmunds will give us opportunity to post our messages with photos attached.
    Be prepared fedlawman!

Congrats many happy carefree miles. ref stereo see thread on 300M enthusiasts club site. There is a problem with 1) the door speakers being wired wrong, 2)with new ac amp vs old ab amp also bass is greatly improved with infinity basslink sub woofer wired into trunk.

Bet that sapphire and chrome wheels really look outstanding in the sun.

Hope the bad guys appreciate the first class transportation provided when you take em in.
  • fedlawmanfedlawman Member Posts: 3,118
The chrome and sapphire is a great combination. I also like the styling of the wheels, which look a lot like classic Panasports...they are better looking than the 300M's.

I'll post photos on my personal webspace soon.

BTW, I checked out the stereo messages on the 300M club board. It "sounds" like that's my problem...muddy bass, distorts at low volumes, etc. How do I find out what class (AB or AC) amp I have?
  • fritofrito Member Posts: 70
G-men in Sapphire Blue -- sort of a 'US Marshalls' meets 'Men in Black'(with Tommy Lee Jones as FEDLAWMAN?).
  • fedlawmanfedlawman Member Posts: 3,118
    ROTFLMAO!

BTW, Tommy Lee Jones is too old and not handsome enough.
  • jab02lhsjab02lhs Member Posts: 122
The amp is in the trunk on the right side right on the wheel well under the carpet. Just pull out one carpet plug and you can see the amp. The ab or ac is clearly marked on the front no need to disconnect anything. The problem is Chrysler will not warranty the amp " No Problem That's Just The Way They Sound " (:>(( ?? ))<:)

The only fix is to get an old one off Ebay or bone yard as all new amps are ac's.
If you do it is just a plug and play swap per James on 300 site, he is a service tech @ a Chrysler dealership. There was also one for sale on 300 site if it's not gone already.

Do you think if enough of us write Franklin Mint we can get them to make a die cast complete with Badge and dash lite?

I'm looking at an end of year 2002 Concorde LX and it appears there is a $1500 rebate, $500 "dealer cash" (what exactly does that mean?) and possibly a $500 rebate for military or disabled people. Anyone care to confirm and explain what "dealer cash" vice a rebate is?
    Thanks!
  • jab02lhsjab02lhs Member Posts: 122
That is a rebate to the dealer he can keep it, split it with you or give it all to you.

Last Nov when I bought my wife her 01 LHS last model year For LHS their was a 2500.00 dealer rebate which I got all of. Cost me dealer invoice less 2500. dealer rebate less 3% dealer hold back They really wanted to get rid of this discontinued model. I was happy to get this last one with the LHS badging because the exact same car is now a Concorde Limited which there will be many more made making mine just a little more exclusive.

Well, the instructions for inserting pictures into a message don't seem to work so, here are some links to my photos instead.

I took this picture yesterday and it really shows off the beauty of this car...

Like a woman, even in the rain she's a thing of beauty. Lucky you no front plate! I hate my front plate totally ruins the sexy looking front, kinda like a mug shot of a pretty woman with the number bar in front of her.
keep her shinny and happy. Many happy miles.
  • fedlawmanfedlawman Member Posts: 3,118
"...a pretty woman with the number bar in front of her."

You mean like Wynona Ryder? LOL

Actually, it's funny you should mention that. The dealer had mounted the front license plate braket to the front bumper by screwing two screws through the plastic of the grill, just above the lower chrome lip.

Thanks to his desire to advertise his dealership on the front of "my" car, there are two small holes in the front bumper.
  • fritofrito Member Posts: 70
I will have to get another car if I have to move to a state that requires a front plate.

May I recommend Zaino (zainobros.com) products for an excellent finish?

Anyway, NICE CAR!! just like the one I recently rented in Va 'cept with a tan interior.

I hope you enjoy your car. That blue is one of my favorites. The Concorde LTD is one nice car. Enjoy............Otto
  • fedlawmanfedlawman Member Posts: 3,118
frito - I agree, the front plate ruins the whole look. Just say no. Re: Zaino. Nothing but AUTOMATIC car washes for "my" baby (at taxpayer expense, of course).

    otto - Thanks!

Its Steel Blue with a Taupe Interior and CD 22 option package with the console and nice wheels. Leather seats are too hot on my polyester military slacks in the SUNbelt, so I had to stick with the 2.7 L LX. I had to travel 90 miles to get a good deal, and let my budget manager spouse drive it home to the garage. I'm still driving my 94 Blue New Yorker (better equipped in some ways - like ABS) and haven't touched my new Concorde yet. My plan was to wait until next spring to buy a used 02, but the new car fever struck and there's only one cure... Maybe I can deply to some 'stan for 90 days and just leave it alone. It just looks so good and new in the garage, I'm afraid to take it out! Must wax it first of course. I've got to break it in sometime!Only 150 miles on the odometer. Call me crazy! Friendly advice appreciated! Have a great 4th of JULY. God Bless America and our many Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen serving our nation and preserving freedom so selflessly against the forces of evil and terror.

Have a 99 concorde lxi, the dash lights and headlights flash on and off when the lights are on. Has anyone have experience with this problem. The local dealer cannot duplicate or find any problem codes in the computer. It has become very annoying at night. Any help would be appreciated.
  • acco20acco20 Member Posts: 211
move the switch that controls the automatic headlights (if you have this feature) to another spot. This was happening to me and my switch was sort of stuck between settings. Hope this helps.
  • fritofrito Member Posts: 70
before waxing, consider using Zaino products (Z1, Z2 etc. from zainobros.com) I have found the finish from these polymers to be extremely durable and well worth any extra expense and time (not really that much) to apply them. Also see numerous posts elsewhere in this forum from the many other devotees.

I had the flickering light phenomenon only once, but it did seem to emanate from the roller switch contolling the instrument brightness. Just roll it around once in a while to 'clean' it. Like a radio volume slide controls that get 'noisy' when you leave it outside overnight.
  • yabadayabada Member Posts: 19
I will join others with flickering lights. I had the problem once or twice during daylight (rain)
and at the begginning I suspected the dashboard adjust to the daylight but now I think this is the dirty control volume.
    Concorde LXi `98
  • binubinu Member Posts: 81
I currently have 60,200 miles on my 98 Concorde Lxi, bought new, in Feb 98.

I have so far had the following issues:
    1) Driver's side window motor failed within 1 year. The motor was replaced.

    2) Around 28,000 miles the car failed to start one day and was completely dead. It was towed to the dealer. Cause : Battery failure.
    3) The driver's side window motor failed again and was replaced.
    4) Around 45,000 miles the car developed an intermittent starting problem. Sometimes, it just refused to start. The Starting/Charging system was checked and was found to be fine. It was difficult to diagnose as the problem was intermittent. Finally after a few trips to the dealer the PCM was flashed and all was well.
    5) Around 55,000 miles the car had a leaking A/C and was fixed.
    6) As of 2 days ago, at 60,000 miles , the starting problem seems to have come back. I checked out the Starting/charging System at Sears and everything seems to be fine. So I think it is either the spark plugs or the PCM needs to be reflashed again. I have to schedule an appointment with my 5*. The A/C has also started leaking again.

The car is on its 3rd set of front rotors and 4th set of front brake-pads.

My 02 LXI (3.5 litre) is running great with just over 15,000 miles. No problems with great mileage in town (21mpg) and fantastic mileage on the road (29-31mpg). I've got Michelins instead of the Goodyears and haven't had any tire problems that I've been reading about from other owners. Love the chrome wheels and they look good parked or driving.

This is my first Chrysler ever after buying GM products for over 25 years and I'm still impressed.

I have a 99 concorde bought new in 2000. I have had many, many problems. Door seals, window motors several times. The brakes have been a nightmare. New pads, rotors, calipers etc. The most disturbing thing is at 31,000 miles my engine developed a knock. They installed a new short block under warranty. I had the dealer change the oil ever 3,000 miles. This car is well taken care of and my wife only drives it to work 5 miles away.It took 23 days to repair and I had to pay $150 dollars for the rental tax while it was in the shop. I'm curious how many other people have had similar problems. Where do I look for that?
  • rrmanrrman Member Posts: 21
I haven't even started to drive my new 02 Concorde LX as my 94 New Yorker is still going so strong pending sale or donation to my college freshman. The New Yorker has always been driven 22-35 mostly highway commuting miles 5 days a week and the only "hard" failure has been the Crankshaft Position Sensor at about 108,000 miles. As an engineer and Air Force Officer, I've seen that consistent good (hard or warmed up)usage of any ground or air vehicle (or HVAC system) seems to enhance reliability. A 5 mile commute is great for the person and environment, but not for a machine. Batteries have left me stranded a few times - one shorted out after only 3 months. I also had the "computer" replaced under warranty as a few times it didn't want to start after being driven in southern heat for 3+ hours on trips. The driver power window switch was replaced early on. The water pump died around 80K and the AC died around 85 K, one brake job around 60K. I think that's pretty good for a North American sedan. I hope the Concorde does as well, but I plan to buy an extended warranty!

Since the LHS has been discontinued and the last post on the LHS board was a month ago, I'll post this here and hope I can get some enlightenment.

My three year Y2K LHS lease ends at the end of September. The car has been wonderful, not a single problem. I leased it with 18K miles per year and I'm at 52K now, slightly over the mileage target, but very close.

Here's my quandry. If I were to get another LHS (by whatever name), I would not want to get a 2003 model when, as I understand it, the 2004 will be completely revamped, rear drive, etc. I am limited to US marques for business reasons, and the only other cars that pique my interest are the Caddy CTS and Olds Aurora (might lease one at the right price, but wouldn't buy an orphan). I can buy the car for the residual, which is slightly under what Edmund's says comparable cars are selling for, or extend my lease for 6, 12, 18 mos., etc., with the 18K miles per year that I always drive. The 12 month extension is at about the same monthly lease cost I am now paying. The 18 month lease payment is about 15% less.

Here's my question: should I keep the LHS for another 12 or 18 month, until the new LHS/300N come out, to see what is available then, considering that at the end of 18 more months the car will have about 80K miles, and, if so, should I buy or lease? Keep in mind that I have liked the car very much, it is in cream puff condition, any car with 80K miles is a rolling time bomb.

    All input appreciated. Any thoughts?
  • fedlawmanfedlawman Member Posts: 3,118
    Here's my $0.02.

You've basically paid for most of the depreciation on your LHS. Since your LHS has been trouble free and the current Concorde Limited is essentially the same car, you should purchase your LHS and keep it until as long as you can.

It would cost a lot less than leasing a new car (pay all that depreciation again) and in a couple of years, you can see what's out there.

By '04, the LX cars will be available, and the CTS will have it's new multi-valve engine (and hopefully a redesigned interior). And don't forget about the upcoming Pontiac GTO!

Hey all, Just about ready to seal the deal on trading in my 1995 Olds Aurora for a 1999 Concorde LXI with only 11,000 miles. Anything I should look out for with the '99 LXI? I DONT want another repeat of weekly problems with the Aurora! Loved the car...hated the problems. Thanx.

Im in a front plate state (Mass) and when I get it inspected I have the regular plate on. As soon as I leave, I take it off and put on a black plate with skull & crossbones....people get outta your way when you drive up behind them! Hahahah. Never a problem with the police.
  • fritofrito Member Posts: 70
Hoist the Jolly Roger and shiver me timbers! How many pieces of eight do they want for that '99 -- 1 for each mile? And speaking of miles, as others have pointed out, higher hiway miles are usually better than lower city miles.
  • evilgrecoevilgreco Member Posts: 40
Close, it was $13,800. Near mint condition. THe only problem is that the rear bumper has some scuff marks, but you need to get close to see it.
  • fritofrito Member Posts: 70
Blimey! what a great deal! What's a few scuff marks? She'll prolly be getting some more battle scars -- fending off boarders, etc. Just need to beach her once in awhile and scrape her hull. Zaino products work wonders on reef scars and shot holes. Many happy [nautical] miles and may the wind keep your sails full.
  • rrmanrrman Member Posts: 21
My 02 Concorde LX got its clay bar, Z1, and three applications of Z2 and Z6 over the past 4 days and is now ready to leave the safety of the garage to brave the elements. We need rain, so I'm hopeful my "reward" will be precipitation. Then I can wash it and Zaino it again next weekend. I applied Rain-X to the front and rear windshields as a car-detailing website recommended it. Maybe I'll get to see how that works too.
May your days be scratch, scuff, and dent free!
  • fritofrito Member Posts: 70
THREE coats of Z2 already?!?!?! WOW, you must dig them strawberrys as much as I do! You won't believe the water beading qualities. I like to park next to an un-z'd Chrysler during a rain -- just for the comparison. Yes, we need some rain too--maybe Zaino can be used for cloud seeding?

Three LH sedans (300M, Intrepid, LHS) '99-'01 make the top 10 list of PASSENGER VEHICLES WITH HIGHEST THEFT CLAIM FREQUENCIES

I dunno, is this a good thing or bad?

  • rrmanrrman Member Posts: 21
Argh, the type of 10 minute intermittent spit has highlighted a day of dust and dirt, and spotting all the windows and surfaces except the Rain-Xed windshield from which the rain just beaded off sans wipers totally excellently, even at just 20 miles an hour. A bit of good news about Alabama...no front license plates.
  • crmancrman Member Posts: 1
I have heard that when the new LX cars that come out in 2004. They will have rear wheel drive, V6 or (maybe) Hemi V8, and use Mercedes-Benz parts (transmission, suspension, etc.). The Chrysler variant will NOT be called Concorde. Chrysler wants to give it a new name because the next car will be much different than the current car, so it deserves a new name. However, the Dodge variant may keep the Intrepid name. Rumor is Chrysler wants to use a name from the past for this car, probably the New Yorker
  • beach15beach15 Member Posts: 1,305
Not to burst your bubble, but that's news most of us knew about a year ago. There are various names they might use like New Yorker, Imperial, etc. The current LH-cars will remain relatively the same for the 2003 model year and then a short 2004 model year, so sales should drop off quite significantly with the cars aging so far.
  • eeeleeel Member Posts: 57
I use Collinite wax instead of zaino. One step, it's just a carnuba wax and is amazing. Zaino is way too much work. I had heard of Collinite but could never find it. My son and I were watching behind the scenes at the Barrett / Jackson auction and it was amazing to find out that most all of the high end cars were waxed with Collinite. Finally, I found a site on the internet waxbytes.com and got a can. Great stuff. You can hose it off, really don't need soap to clean the car (I still do, I guess old habits are hard to break). And bird droppings just slid off. Four months later !!! Wow.

Just curious. Inherited from mom a 94 Concorde, that will end up being my teenage daughter's car.
I know it's been well maintained, with major issues around A/C, now resolved. It has 90K.
    Questions for you enthusiasts/owners:
    - Can I feel good about my teen driving this car?
    - Notice that gas light flickers, gauge fluctuates...anything of concern here?
    - how to put on front plate? Where? (live in MA)
    Thanks!!
  • fritofrito Member Posts: 70
Should be a great car for your daughter to drive.

The gas gauge erratics sounds like a fairly common problem with the 1st gen LH cars. Here is a related thread on the

    DodgeIntrepid.net site

Probably need to drill some holes in the front bumper to mount a plate. (Just make sure they are above the waterline!! haha.)

Recently I experienced unexplained problems with starting the engine without any particular reason.
Once it happened after several hour of highway driving. Istopped at a service area and after a few minutes I could not start the engine. After a few attempts I was able to do it. Next time it happened in the morning and I could do it only thru the jumper cables. and the last time the same situation as the first one. I started the engine after several attempts. All the lamps on the dashboards were blinking rapidly when I turned the ignition and then all of a sudden the car started. I didn`t noticed that the battery is not charged when driving so Iassume that it must be an electrical problem. I remember someone left a message once about a similiar problem but I could not find it. Any idea what is it.
It all happened with my Concorde LXi 98 (3.2l)
    70.000 miles
  • binubinu Member Posts: 81
I have had starting problems with my 98 Concorde Lxi (3.2L), bought new in Feb 1998. The car currently has 61,200 miles on the odometer.

    1) Around 28,000 miles the car failed to start one day and was completely dead. It was towed to the dealer. The battery was replaced and everything was good.

    2) Around 45,000 miles the car developed an intermittent starting problem. I have posted about this issue/resolution in post nos 616, 620, 621.

    3) Around 60,000 miles, towards the expiry of the extended warranty, the car again developed a starting problem. Refer post # 824.
Initially, the car, after having sat for more than an hour, would require an extended cranking.
A check of the charging system did not reveal any issues. Somehow, I have found that the starting problems have been extremely difficult to diagnose at the dealership. So I waited for the issue to get worse.

Now the car requires 2-3 attempts of extended cranking after having sat for more than 10 minutes.
Apart from this, I also have a leak in the a/c system that is very difficult to detect. The dealer has treated the a/c with some refrigerant dye and asked me to return in 30days.

Does anybody knows where I can get user manual for Chrysler Vision (Concorde)in the Internet?
    Thanks
  • fritofrito Member Posts: 70
    from a Chrysler webpage:

Your dealership may be able to provide you with a new Owner's Manual; or, you can purchase Owner's Manuals and Service Manuals (for 1990 and newer vehicles) by visiting the Tech Authority at: -- http://www.techauthority.daimlerchrysler.com

You can also obtain the above manuals (and some older model year manuals) by calling Dyment Distribution at 1-800-890-4038 or 1-800-348-4696. If you prefer to write for one, the address is Dyment Distribution, 20770 Westwood Rd., Box 360450, Strongsville, OH 44136

  • binubinu Member Posts: 81
The Dealer Tech checked out my vehicle. Found the fuel pump to be faulty. Replaced the fuel pump and so far starts ok.
  • fritofrito Member Posts: 70
According to the allpar.com site, there is no 'check engine' failure code for the fuel pump.
Speaking of check engine lights, I came across this site the other day

    http://obddiagnostics.com/

that offers a cable and software for reading codes and resetting the light plus other onboard diagnostics. This provides an interface to a Windows PC or PDA.

Have a 2002 Chrysler Concorde LX, 2.7L, which is a jewel of a car. Runs & looks great, etc. The only complaint I have is that the tires are noisy. The car came with Goodyear, and since I will be taking an extended road trip soon, would like a 'quieter' tire. Have read that the Michelin or the Dunlop Sport A-2 are good. PLEASE, any suggestions of which tire will give a smooth, quieter ride? (Thanks in advance for any suggestion)
  • beach15beach15 Member Posts: 1,305
It's been a known fact that many LH sedans are noisy, especially those with "crapyear" or "badyear" tires. There are some very good Michelins out there that are quite a bit quieter, smoother, and better performing. I think X-1's might be a good choice, with an 80,000 mile warranty. I'm not certain of price however. Another excellent choice would be Dunlop SP Sport A2's. They're priced very nicely, are high quality, give a smoooth ride and sharp handling, and most of all, are one of the quietest tires out there from what I've read.

You have the 16" wheels right? Neither should be overly expensive, and most tires are better than any Goodyears.
  • fritofrito Member Posts: 70
I'm aboot to replace the GY Eagle GAs, so been lookin' too. Very much considering the Dunlops and also recently drove a Concorde Ltd with the Michelins. So I second Beach15's choices. One other possiblity is the Yokohama Avid T4s. For comparison pricing and comprehensive reviews visit tirerack.com -- look for the link just up on the left side of this page.
