My salesman yesterday mentioned something about the Sony phones being compatible with the A6. I don't know about quality of those phones, however.

As to call and connection quality, that will be determined by the phone and your provider, not by the car. Essentially, the car acts like a very large wireless headset when it is paired to the phone. So, if you'd have a good connection holding the phone traditionally, you'll have the same quality over BT.

    Theoretically, anyway...BT isn't perfect yet.

Here's a link to the Audi site for Blue Tooth phone compatability on the A6 - you really gotta analyze each phone to see its limitations.

I placed an order for the '05 A6 4.2 last night. I called the dealer today to see how the order went. He claims they are having a hard time putting it in because the Sport Package has been changed to the "S-Line", whatever that is. It's supposedly the same as the Sport Package, but has some badges or something. Anybody else having the same experience?
  • tayl0rdtayl0rd Member Posts: 1,926
Just spoke to a very pleasant lady named Margaret at Audi USA. The Sport Package has been replaced by the S-Line (WQB option code). You have to have the Cold Weather Package to get it and it includes the following:

    18" 5-arm quattro gmbH wheels
    245/40 performance tires
    S-line bumpers
    S-line badges

Margaret seemed to be pleasantly surprised that those wheels are available. She said they were previously only available in Europe. Anybody know of these wheels and where I can see a picture of them?

The package does NOT include the sport seats (Q1D option code). There's no pricing information on the S-line package yet. Margaret is trying to track the info down for me and says she will get back with me before COB today.

any reasonable deals out there yet?

I think they are getting better.....$0 down, pre-tax on a loaded 3.2 (around 50k msrp), you should be in the high 6's.....Not horrific for a $50k car, IMO.

Does any one know how well the voice recognition for phone, CD, and navigation work? Can anyone compare it to the RL?
  • safeldersafelder Member Posts: 60
I've only seen it in action on the audio system, but it appeared to work well, even with my salesman's relatively thick accent. It's not nearly as sophisticated as the one in the RL, however.
  • jgainesjgaines Member Posts: 39
I have generally seen 1k to 1500 off MSRP. Lease have priced best at 42 months and with 15K miles, and nothing down I have seen a high of $825/month (a joke) to several at $715 per month and low of $629 which I am investigating further. I will report back if its for real since it seems to good to be true.

    Just curious, Kirstie:

This board seems fairly active and the other Audi discussion is not. Why not keep this one open?
  • maui19maui19 Member Posts: 31
Why dilute this discussion with posts about old models/chassis. My interest is in the C6 rather the C5.
  • a4drivera4driver Member Posts: 11
Pricing on the S-Line package for the new A6 is $2650
  • Kirstie_HKirstie_H Administrator Posts: 11,242
Unfortunately, we just can't host a separate discussion for different years of each make/model. Since the other Audi discussion is not very active, we *may* just do a swap-out - replace the old discussion with this one. We'll see... it's not solely my decision.

    I saw $549 a month - 42 month, 10K miles a year on a pretty loaded '05 A6. MSRP between $50K and $51K. I think around 2K down. An additional $10 a month or so for 12K miles a year.

Even if we close this topic, the messages will be preserved for all time in our archives. If we move the discussion, it will look exactly the same as well (with a title change).

Question for all on Bluetooth...has anyone had any luck with the new BlackBerry phones? I assume that the list of phones on audi.com is just what they have tested but not the "only" ones you can use...is this correct?

    Thanks
  • monet5monet5 Member Posts: 32
All I can tell you is that the Blackberry 7100t does NOT work with the A6. I'm hearing that a number of Bluetooth phones don't work with the Audi so best to test the phone before you purchase.
  • audiowneraudiowner Member Posts: 3
I was going to upgrade mine to the BBerry 7290...I think I may just get a Moto phone with a cradle they sell if that is 100%..
  • maldorfmaldorf Member Posts: 31
I surely hope that your Acura TL does not have the common transmission issue that is present. I had a 99 TL that had the transmission go out after only 38k miles, and some owners have burned through as many as 4 trannies. The cars have been recalled, was yours? Some recall letters have not gone out, since they start with early model years first. Check out the acura tl owners postings here and do a search under transmission.

This deal was advertised on the 05 A6 3.2 in the showroom on Saturday 12/4. $549 a month - 42 months, 10K miles. The sample was pretty loaded with an MSRP between $50K and $51K. I think around 1.5K to 2.5K down (don't remember for sure). The salesman said add about $10 a month or so to up the miles to 12K a year.

A reporter is interested in speaking with anyone who has recently purchased any of the following vehicles: Chrysler 300, Mazda 3, Scion xB, Audi A6, Land Rover LR3 or the Honda Odyssey. He would like to discuss which other vehicles you considered, why you bought the vehicle you bought, likes/dislikes, etc. If you are interested in speaking with this reporter, please forward your name, the vehicle you purchased and your daytime contact information to Pam Krebs, Edmunds.com PR, at pkrebs@edmunds.com no later than end of day Tuesday, Dec. 14. remember when people used to actually post here?

Does this mean no one is interested in Audis anymore. . .or that those who are don't come to Edmunds?

Having recently noted that this board has gone dead, I went back and re-read your post. . .carefully. Almost as significant as your post was the immediately following response from what this board has come to consider (IMHO) the ultimate authority -- that would be Mark. For once, this time, I'm totally serious.

If Mark is coming over to our (the dark) side and admitting that stone-solid long term reliability, combined with 95% performance, might carry the day, it's certainly time to sell your Audi (& VW & BMW) stock.

That said, I still love to drive Audis. . .just not own them.

If those are the actual #'s, it would seem like that is a phenomenal lease. I wouldn't put the money down- roll it into the lease- but that is pretty good based on what everyone else has seen.

Is there something up with the car?
  • jgainesjgaines Member Posts: 39
    The numbers don't add up.
  • gusmoegusmoe Member Posts: 4
I'm just reporting what I saw. If anyone is interested, they might contact the dealer to confirm.

For me, I'm looking to purchase, not lease. I hope to get the nerve up to pull the trigger on my deal in January.
  • johngjohng Member Posts: 6
Regarding the similarity between the A4 and A6, you should definitely stop by an Audi dealer and actually sit in the two cars.

Two completely different interiors, the new A4(B7 platform) is essentially the same interior as the current A4/B6 model, the only main difference is the addition of the big screen NAV.

The new A6 is interior is a huge redesign, leaps and bounds ahead of the old (C5) model.

Not to mention soem very nice features that are not available in the A4, i.e. advanced key, voice recogniton, electronic handbrake, central MMI control like the A8...etc.

In summary, you are getting a lot more that just a bit of extra length, the cars are very different and the A6 is definitely offering a lot for the extra money.
  • jgainesjgaines Member Posts: 39
Have you driven the car? It will calm your nerves.
  • liferulesliferules Member Posts: 531
    Johng,

I actually OWN the 2005 A6. That's why I was a little frustrated to read about the upcoming A4 which has the same engine and many if not most of the advanced amenities. I wasn't aware that the new A4 is even in dealerships.

The car will be definitely shorter, but honestyly, have you looked at the pictures of the new A4? It is quite similar to the A6. Guess I'm just a little defensive about my car and not wanting lots of look-a-likes.
  • johngjohng Member Posts: 6
    Liferules,

Looks like we are basically talking about the same thing :)

I too am quite "defensive" about the A6, admittedly from a slightly different point of view, i.e. I actually wanted to buy a new S4 but am so disapointed that they have made virtually no improvements to the interior I am more or less forced to go with the new A6.

All the interior pictures I have seen of the new A4 look exactly the same (except the bigger nav screen) as the current model, very disapointing. They are not in showroom yet, but plenty of interior/exterior pictures available online.

Comparing the old and new A6's though, shows two completely different interiors.

I will probably end up going with a A6 3.2, just struggling to find any decent deals here in Chicago right now, most dealers are hardly budging on the MSRP.

I agree about the exterior though, it is pretty similar, but it doesnt really bother me, I am more concerned about the interior where I spend most of the time.
  • liferulesliferules Member Posts: 531
    Johng,

I highly recommend the 3.2 A6. I'm ecstatic with mine. Granted, it is a different car from the S4, so if you are truly looking for raw power, the 3.2 may not satisfy you. OTOH, I am quite impressed with my power.

I agree that the major dealers in big cities aren't haggling much. Maybe as the Lexus GS and Infinity M35/45 arrive, they'll drop...

    Good luck.
  • johngjohng Member Posts: 6
    Liferules,

Yes, the 3.2 is an excellent car, I test drove one yesterday and was quite impressed with the power, esspecially in the Sport mode transmission setting. I love the new tech gizmo's, i.e. advance key, MMI, Big screen Nav,parktronic..etc..

Did you get a decent deal on yours ? best i could find is $700-$1000 of MSRP, I guess thats about as good as it gets here. (Chicago,IL).

I guess I have to make a decision soon, before the $1000 price increase, apparently it takes effect Jan. 15th.

I am taking delivery of a fully loaded a6 3.2 in the Raleigh area of North carolina on Friday. It has with all the options except tire pressure and rear air bags. MSRP was $52,600. After many days of negotiation they took off $1,500. I ended up leasing it for 36 months-since I have never owned an Audi, I am worried about the reliability.

Although I generally do not get too emotional about vehicles, this is the first car I ahve drive that really is a step above. The interior especially has a much better overall fit and feel than the Lexus, MB or infinity. I also drvoe the RL and thought it was a very nice $50,000 Accord, albeit with a lot of stuff added.
  • gusmoegusmoe Member Posts: 4
I stopped by today to confirm that lease deal (and to admire the oyster gray sitting out back). Everything i posted was accurate EXCEPT the down payment was $5K + 1st and security deposit. Everything else was correct.

btw - i do need my nerves calmed... and i'm thinking the Amaretto interior will be just the thing to do it.
  • jgainesjgaines Member Posts: 39
Only 5K down an you didn't need to leave a kidney too!

The Amaretto is sweet I hear-I am picking up mine tomorrow-silver with black interior-loaded. Enjoy.
  • liferulesliferules Member Posts: 531
    johng,

I didn't get any deal at all, but mine was the 1st off the line (I had extenuating circumstances making me need a new car ASAP). I've read where most are getting at most $1000 off MSRP. There are a few stories on the board of people getting them at ridiculous prices but you have to take it with a grain of salt...

I'm loving my car. I also love the tech gadgets and unlike some other new car models out recently, the C6 has had no technical glitches as of yet. The MMI is great. The bose sound is phenomenal! The parktronic is actually helpful and has saved my bumper at least once already. I have yet to actually insert the key in the ignition.

    Good luck with your purchase.
  • jeqqjeqq Member Posts: 221
I bought mine at Classic Automobiles/Mount Vernon, NY, same ballpark pricing, didn't have to haggle, good buying experience. Car should be in end of month.
  • jeqqjeqq Member Posts: 221
If you do the math, most people leave 0 money down, the numbers add up to what you should be paying for the car. I got a similar deal in NY from Classic Automobiles. Car will be in at the end of month.

Hey folks - as some of you have noticed, not much has been happening in this discussion - it's all been happening in the FV 2005 A5 discussion, it seems! And as you probably know, it's time for the FV discussion to move on since the 05 A6 has hit the ground running.

What Kirstie (FV host) and I have decided to do is move her discussion into this one so that nothing ends up in the archives - there is so much interest in the new A6 and you folks participating in the FV discussion don't want to see that one close, we realize.

What this means is that the FV discussion will essentially "disappear" - that is, if you are subscribed to it, it won't show up anymore, and you'll want to subscribe to this one if you aren't already.

It also means that whether or not you have been reading the 2005 A6 discussion, when she moves it, you will see a large number of unread messages here (which will be all the messages in the FV discussion). An easy way to skip past them is using either the Mark As Read or Recent Msgs links - they will catch you up.

Feel free to let either me or Kirstie know if you have any questions about this.

    Meanwhile, enjoy!

Just dropped down to my local dealer to have a look-see.

WOW, was impressed. Looks a lot better in real life. Stil, the grille looks a bit odd, but otherwise thumbs up. What colours makes the chrome grille not so obvious?

I received my 3.2 this weekend. It has met all my (very short term) expectations. I got slightly more than $1,500 off MSRP which except for the occasional hard to believe $5,000 story seems about right currently. I am sure prices will be better as time passes and the infiniti and lexus competition hit the street.

Can I get feedback on how other owners of new A6 steering wheel toggle works? If I select radio mode on the left side of the steering wheel I get the radio stations most frequently listened to. If I toggle up or down and press in the toggle I then switch to the new indicated station. But then the list of stations on the drivers information display (not the mmi screen) reverts back to the main information screen so if I want to change the station again I have to switch back to radio mode by pushing the mode or toggle button again. It seems that the radio station list should stay visible until I cancel it by pressing the mode button so I can station surf until I find something I want to listen to. Is this the way your radio button works or is mine malfunctioning?
  • liferulesliferules Member Posts: 531
To the best of my knowledge, the steering wheel toggle will only toggle in the main menu of the AM, or FM, or XM menu. The FM just happens to list the most listened to stations 1st, but the rest are there as well. I know for a fact that the toggle will not allow you to use the favorites menu, so if you're listening to XM, you will have to toggle thru all the XM stations rather than the abbreviated 20 favorite list. I find myself using the wheel or the forward/backward buttons on the center console while driving rather than the steering wheel toggle.

So when you chose a station on the toggle, it is in the MAIN menu, thus the MMI switches to that as well.
