In the same vein, does anybody know if Honda will ever release a wagon version of the Accord?
SOMETIMES, maybe like 1 out of 4 times, when i first start up in the morning, take the car out of Park to Reverse to get out of my garage, the car seems to engage into Reverse....kind of hard, or harshly. like it goes into Reverse kind of fast. sometimes it goes in with less of a THUD. nothing is actually wrong with the performance, and my old Civic did the same, as did my Nissan Altima of years ago (though my auto VW's never did this).
is this something everyone experiences? or am i just really sensitive? i admit, i am always listening and feeling for problems in my cars. i need to stop being so "mental"...but anyway, does anyone else have the occasional "slam" into Reverse sensation? if so, why do some automatics do that? is it hurting anything??
thanks!
Is the car warmed up, or u just start wait ten seconds and put it into reverse?
start car, wait like 5-10 seconds for idle to lower, and throw her in reverse.
thanks.
I had the same problem, because my garage wasn't heated. Now, I let her warm-up to normal temp. gauge reading, then take off. Give it a try and if continues, something else is wrong.
We had a 1999 Accord EX 5-speed sedan (no leather) that we bought in January of 1999. We traded it in October of 2000 with 38,300 miles on it for a 2001 Accord EX V6 coupe. Dealer gave us the 01 coupe for invoice and gave us $14,200 for the 1999 which was $5000 less than we paid. We had a 2003 Accord EX-L 5-speed coupe bought in December of 2002 for $21,900 (price included almost every accessory available such as spoiler, fog lights, body-side molding, day/night mirror, chrome exhaust tip, and splash guards). We traded it with 16,500 miles in September 2003 for a 2004 Accord EX-L automatic sedan and the dealer gave us $17,500 and the new Accord a few hundred below invoice.
This is our first automatic Accord so I can't compare resale value. But I don't think that the 5-speeds we have owned in the past have fared that badly. I'm sure we could've done even better selling privately but neither of us have the patience to do so. One thing to note is that in both of the above cases the dealer sold the car within a week or so of us trading them in. In the case of the 2003 I don't think it even made it onto the lot before someone (maybe an employee) bought it.
Im curious as to your bizarre (impractical for the majority of people) purchasing practices...

First came the 1998 Civic EX Sedan. Nice car but had a strange defect in the trunk area that would have required bodywork to fix. Honda gave us a $1000 and...
A 1999 Accord EX Sedan at cost. It worked out quite nicely. Until the....
2001 EX coupes came out. Very nice car. They gave us a nice deal and the interest rate was low so we bought a black V6. But we hated the transmission. So we sold it to Carmax. Bought a new Protege for a while. Hated the engine. Traded it for a used Civic Si Coupe. Then the Ep hatch version came out. So we traded the coupe for a hatch. Drove it for 1500 miles until someone pulled out in front of her and totalled it. Insurance paid off the whole thing including the negative from all the trading (there wasn't much since Si's were being given away). Bought a second Si hatch that kept rolling down hills...
During that time I had bought a black 03 coupe. But I saw a 95 GS300 that I wanted so she took my coupe and I traded the Civic Si for the Lexus. Soon thereafter we bought a new house and immediately became pregnant. So we traded the 03 coupe for...
An 04 EX-L sedan. Love it.
There have been other cars on my side during that time but that's another story.
As for our purchasing practices...We make sure we never trade a car on something that will keep us overwhelmingly upside down. Like our 04 Accord. We are only about $2500 in the hole right now. Easily roll able into another loan without financing more than the MSRP on anything new we might want to trade for. With interest rates so low right now, we could probably afford a $35-40,000 car each right now. But I drive a 03 Civic, she drives the Accord and I have a paid for 94 LS400 that I've put less than 10K miles on in 2.5 years. We're doing much better than the year 2000 when we were paying $1200 month in car notes.
Sticks seem to do best on sporty cars. The Accord 4 door is sort of sporty but not excessively so. Stealth sporty. :-)
I have had dealers flat out tell me, except for 2 doors, sticks do not sell well.
Like many, I seek that balance of practicality and fun. An Accord Sedan with a stick is practical but has a slight lean towards fun.
I am not sure what other cars have that and decent space. TL? TSX? Altima? Maxima? WRX? Maybe new 2005 Legacy?

I don't think Honda customers buy Accords for GM styling. What is Honda thinking?
Are we sure this is the 2005 edition that the US will see?

Contrast that with the obvious imitation of the previous gen MB S-class by the Lexus LS430, and the cloning-gone-wrong by Kia Amanti of the MB E-class.
That there is some Honda similarity with other cars appears to be more the result of design soundness rather than imitation. Examples: 7th gen Accord coupe and Mercury Cougar; 7th gen Accord nose with previous Kia Rio model. Note: the 7th gen Accord came after those other brands.
I don't think it is a major electrical problem or else my navigation system would seem to have a lot of problems. It only seems to have problems with the dimming lights. Sometimes they go very dim. It is a safety issue that I do not want to accept a "There's nothing we can do about it." Any thoughts?
The Accord Coupe looks like a Mercedes CLK not a cougar.
With the 03 Accord front end I'll disagree the current front end of the Accord is a family resemblance to the 01 Civic.
Is 7th generation Accord wagon available in North America?
No, because it's based on the JDM Accord, which isn't the version of the Accord sold in North America. The Accord sold in North America is the larger USDM version, which doesn't come in a wagon. If I'm not mistaken, the version of the Accord sold in North America is closely related to the version sold in Taiwan.
A variant of the JDM Accord sedan is sold in North America as the Acura TSX. Given that there seems to be a resurgence in demand for "sport wagons", I wouldn't be surprised if a TSX sport wagon became available sometime in the future. Just speculation on my part...
Leased a 04 Odyssey EX with factory DVD. Had the 1500 down 259 a month offer that could not be turned down. I skipped the down payment so its $333 for 24 months. I figure thats 3 oil changes worth of maint and I turn it in. I'll save getting that SUV I wanted for a while. Can you believe the insurance is only $200/6 months??? WOW!!!
I should've clarified ... Can the 3 spoke from the coupe be swapped into the sedan? My comment about the TSX's steering wheel was only meant to imply that I liked it's look, that's all...not trying to install a TSX steering wheel on an Accord Sedan.
So...does know whether or not the coupe's wheel can be installed on the sedan? thanks...
I'd be all over a hypothetical 2005 Accord DX VP- what with standard ABS and side curtains on all 2005 Accords... I'd like my wish list VP to include just 3 items:
Air Conditioning
Power Locks (no need for keyless)
Rear Stabilizer Bar
If such a pkg could be had for say, $1300 MSRP/ about $1000 invoice, this car would be a STEAL. And with the 5M and rear anti-roll bar, itd handle and be just as fun as a Honda should.
Just something to think about.. Ive not seen the board so comparatively dead in some time.

Any ideas if this is as outrageous as it seems or justified?
Many thanks in advance
Alan
It cost me around $350 for 60k tune-up for my 89 Accord. But it was more 9 years ago. I still have the invoice for it. ;-)
Fuel filter replacement is extra.
I don't think it's outrageous.
A local shop would probably charge you less.
Period is YTD Apr 2004, % vs YTD Apr 03
1. Camry 130,647, 3% more than last year
2. Accord 114,491, (9%) less than last year
3. Altima 78,625, 24% more than last year
4. Mazda6 20,565, 53% more than last year
5. Acura TL 25,331, 43% more than last year
6. Maxima 21,625, (27%) less than last year
I own a 03 Accord myself and we can have different interpretation of what the stats mean i.e. TL is really a new model over last year, Mazda6 is etc., or Camry is doing the right thing in terms of its target market?
Am I worried Accord is experiencing a decline? Nope, I hope Honda notices it and maybe they can do some improvement for the next generation of accord when I start to change my car. If I own a Maxima (I liked the car too), will I be worried it took a big dip? No, again, that should worry Nissan not me. They better improve their product (design maybe, quality maybe) and this will be to our advantage as consumers!
It is good for us car buyers that they compete with one another. Mazda is doing well and that is good news, although when I considered last year, I preferred the accord over the 6 and Camry with my own reasons, and looking back it still holds true.
If they actually do work, does anyone know why the manual says otherwise? Someone else on another board mentioned that CD-Rs can harm CD changers by interfering with the load/unload mechanism. Any comments on this would be appreciated.
I usually listen to the XM radio now, so haven't played CDs in a while, but yes, indeed, your CD-Rs should work just fine in the new Accord's factory CD player. I didn't see in the manual where this wasn't the case--maybe I missed something?....Richard
I've created some mix CDs from downloads from the Rhapsody service, and I play them in the CD changer in my '03 Accord EX V6 all the time... never had any problems whatsoever. I don't recall seeing any warnings about using CD-Rs in the unit either.
If some people have had issues with CD-Rs, I suspect it might be due to inadvertantly using a multi-session CD that wasn't closed out. Many audio CD players have problems with such a CD.
While some new auto CD players are capable of playing MP3 encoded CDs, the player on the Accord is not MP3 capable. That is unfornuate .. You can get up to 10 CDs worth of music on one CD with only barely perceptable loss in music quality
Obviously, it will play CD-Rs (You have to burn an MP3-CD, duh...
It's pretty nice, cause I still have the regular CD player available if I want to pop in a regular CD.

And most buyers have no idea what a rear stablizer bar is or what it does. Matter of fact, I can't really feel any difference.
Just turned the page and found another add and saw Sandy Spring Toyota has em for $15,788 with 100 available.
Sutherlin (Autonation) is still advertising 04 Altimas too. My point is that Honda is advertising NO rebates or cash back, while everyone else has rebates listed. At least in the southeast.
