Can anyone recommend a good value replacement tire? I am interested in an all season, long wearing set of tires. I drive mainly highway miles, and accumulate about 30,000 miles a year. Performance is not a priority, handling in wet conditions is a priority.
Please advise.
The speed rating for these is either S or T, but who cares, unless you plan on consistently exceeding 110 mph?
Other candidates: Dunlops, Yokohama Avids. Stay away from Goodyear if you want long wear. Some Bridgestones have been OK for me, but some haven't. Personally, I prefer something from Michelin above any other alternative.
Surprisingly, you may find the Mich XGT4 is actually cheaper than the MXVs in an H rating, if you can find them in this size - again, check Tire Rack's search engine and see what you get.
OEM Michelin, tried to save some money replacing with Firestones, and I've been displeased with them from day 1.

I believe they were rated for 45K miles, but since my Michelins only lasted 35K the Sumitomos seemed like a value.

The best thing I did was replacing them with BF Goodrich Radial T/A. 180° from those darn Michelin! At just $250 for the set, these are the best Michelin you can buy (it owns BF Goodrich)!

If you are on a VERY tight budget, get an year old Accord Lx with no more than 10,000 miles (2 of my friends have got 2001 Accord LX with 7000& 11000 miles for 16500 + fees.
It seems that buying a used Honda doesn't make financial sense - since the depreciation is so low you're better off buying new - of course that only makes sense if you plan to keep the car 3-4 years.
If it is possible to get a new Accord LX for near invoice, then a used 2001 would probably need to be priced at least $1000 below the invoice of a new one for anyone to seriously consider buying it.
Who is going to pay the same price for a used 1 or 2 year old Honda as they could get a new one whether it is "Certified" or not?
I am over 6 feet tall and I can sit in the both the front and back of an Accord EX sedan and my head does not touch the roof.
Honda does not offer factory options the way Toyota and Nissan do as a way to cut costs. A Camry costs quite a bit more than an Accord with the same level of equipment.
If customizing your car with odd combinations of options is what you want, then you have to pay the price premium of a Camry to get it.
You can also easily have a dealer install aftermarket leather to an Accord LX that can often be of better quality than what comes from the factory of most car manufacturers.

1) The gas mileage is constantly 3 miles below the specified average (I only got 23 miles per gal under 65% HW and 25% City driving);
2) The muffler at the idle speed (round 800 rpm) is rattling and noisy. More precisely, it seems that the muffler is "choked" and so produces a high velocity exhaust gas. You can feel it very well when you place your hand even 6 inches away from the exhaust tip.
3) Comparing the same card of the same mode, I would say that the amount of exhaust (gas) from my car is 10 times of that from the normal one.
4) Carbon deposit was found in the inner wall of the exhaust pipe.
This morning, I took the car back to the dealer service department and explain the above syndromes to the servicemen. The first two told me that they didn't understand what I said (meant, they didn't think those were problems). After I explained to the third one and he compared the exhaust with the same car from the lot, he acknowledged that my card did have much more muffler noisy. He suspected that there might be some "Baffle" in the muffler that causes this. Then I asked him what about the syndromes # (1), (3) and (4). His answers were: For item # (1), they could not check the gas mileage till 6000 miles: For item # (3), the more air (exhaust) the better."; and For item # (4), it is normal.
They are going to replace the muffler with a new one on next Tuesday. I will further inform you the result.

The thing bothering me the most is the large volume exhaust at the idle speed. Can anyone explain this? Someone told me that some car has a assisting air fan used to control the catalyst converter temperature by adding additional air to the exhaust system. Do Accord have such fan? If yes, then could be the temperature control system malfunctioning that is causing the fan turning at full speed even at low engine speed?
Appreciated if someone can enlighten me.
For your gas mileage: check your tire pressure. I don't remember what Honda recommends, but I run 35 psi in all 4 tires. Check your air filter. If it's already filthy (you can't really see light through it), change it. Check your PCV valve. It shouldn't be clogged already, but it's a $2 part and could possibly be jammed. (if you don't know where the PCV valve is, ask the dealer or go to your local auto parts store and ask...they're usually very friendly).
I used to drive 50 miles each way to work...all but 3 miles of it was on a slightly hilly 4-lane highway. I would set the cruise control on 72 or 73 mph and get about 28 mpg for those tanks of gas. However, when I get out on a long trip and set the cruise control at about 80 (I live in a different state, now...it's flat), I'll get 31 or 32 mpg.
Now that I've written a book, I'll tell you that there most likely isn't anything wrong with your car. It is very common to not achieve the mileage ratings claimed by the manufacturer.
I rarely even check my mileage. I figure it'll get whatever it gets.
So far I have been very happy with the car. Been a rare model it combines the low cost of LX (as opposite to EX) and long lasting V6 powerful engine (as opposite to I4). What do you think folks? I realise the warranty gives you piece of mind but still, what are the chances that it breaks in the next 3 years? Any experience is appreciated.
The service records I have for the car show that the worst problem it had so far was the burnt out tail lamp bulb.
I am thinking of purchasing a 1991 Honda Accord EX with 136K miles. How many miles can I reasonably expect to get out of this car, assuming it has been well maintained? I have never owned a Honda car, but have always heard great stories. Are there any known problems with this year Accord? It is an automatic, and the transmission seems to shift hard, is that normal?

The distributor, igniter, brakes (warped rotors), and exhaust are the weak areas of the car in my opinion.
