To me, the Accord advanced another step on their "evolutionary" path. We all need to see it "in the flesh" before commenting further on whether Honda succeeded or failed. Especially in the "looks" department.
A co-worker picked up a new 2002 Accord EX I4 last week. One of her comments with the relentless hot weather we've been having is how good the A/C is, better than the Corolla it replaced.
So not all new Hondas have crappy A/C.
emale: I would agree the A/C in the Civic and CR-V is marginal. But I find the A/C in the Accord and CL/TL just fine.
The Passat is nice, but it's not the stunning car everyone here makes it out to be. And even it is due for a new model change fairly soon, with the W8 model giving it a slight more longevity. Who knows how that wil turn out?
As for the Altima, I do admit it looks pretty good (although I don't appreciate Nissan knocking off Toyota with the Altezza taillights), but from experience with a friend's Altima's reliability and quality, I would only buy it if it came with a $4,500 discount off the Accord, and had a 7 year warranty. Because I will be spending a lot of time in the shop and its resale would not hold up.
The Camry is nice for sure. No doubt there.
The new Accord looks really good. The new pics really bring out its true character.
Overall this is a giant leap foward, even if not enough to satisfy some. It looks like it was styled today and not 20 years ago like the 02.
The interior looks very nice. The only thing about the interior that makes me nuts is Honda's obsession with that wussy skinny flimsy looking auto tranny shifter they seem to never want to let go of.
Just like a thick substancial steering wheel gives a good impression, so does the shifter. Aside from that is seems to have a very nice style and lots of nice touches and features .
I don't understand how people get so crazy about the looks of this car when they haven't seen it. I can remember many times in the past (like Mazda 929 ) that I was in love with a car after seeing pictures, but when I saw it in person I didn't like it at all.
My impressions are very positive at this point and when I see it in person then I'll have a more accurate opinion based on fact.
If Honda did everything right for ME, then obviously there would be a lot of unhappy people.
Why quibble over a few hundred bucks, if even? If you can get a new Accord for your 00 Civic, why not just do it? Unless you have an inside source at your dealership and know how the Accords are selling, you're risking losing out on a deal.
Also, besides saving a few hundred on the car price, I think that if they are more desparate to get rid of the 02's, they will give me a much better deal on the trade in price for the civic.

Have to disagree.
I can only guess, but the best way to figure out a good price IMO is to divide MSRP by 1.1. And since redesigned model is a month away, I would cut down on the even more. So, if MSRP is 15500, how about trying for low $13K? Ofcourse, you'd have to add the cost of A/C which may be about $800-1000. Good luck.

The Camry actuall appears more efficent with its size based on some of these measurements.
The beauty of having McPherson Struts at all corners! Double wishbones take space, one of the two compromises that it brings in, the other being cost. But then, we didn't like Civic getting McPherson Struts upfront for similar reasons, did we? Honda gave up some interior dimensions by keeping the suspension layout intact. I was suspecting that they might go back to 4-link rear suspension to increase some interior volume and trunk space, but they retained the unique 5-link rear. Here are the links,

wow, i can't believe how much the new accord looks like the saturn L in this pic!!!...i see it especially in the greenhouse and rear quarter...hummmm....
It looks like an Accord to me. You must not have seen one of the 2 million 98-02 Accords on the road, yet. Do you want me to post a picture? Here,

What is that glaringly shiny, somewhat rectangular, blob at the lower center of the dash?
Storage bin. The texture looks similar to that used in RSX.
What is it with a four-spoke steering wheel being shown at...versus a three-spoke wheel shown at...
Probably the difference between the 'Sport' coupe and the regular trim. There is a difference in the seats and steering as well (perforated leather in the 'Sport Coupe').
it doesn't really matter does it, if the accord looks like a saturn??

Much more sporty looking!!
For an EX V-6 with navi.
"At an estimated $27,500, a fully loaded 2003 Accord EX V-6 with the navigation system is overpriced. But it’s still a pretty darn nice car."
Honestly, I'd get a TL.
autoweek has a very positive review of the new accord. says it handles extremely well. so far, only Edmunds has had bad comments about the accord's handling.
thanks to whoever posted the picture of the saturn. now everyone can see how riducilous it is to compare the accord to that car.
And I also agree about the Saturn and the Accord... not even close to looking alike.
Just came over from the Infiniti M45 board ... now there's sum fightin'! "It's ugly!" "It's NOT Ugly!" "You think it's ugly because you're young!" "It's an ugly car for old people!" "It's not ugly - the LS430 and BMW 745 is ugly!" I was serious lol ... I think it looks like an Altima, myself.
Steering Wheel: The four spoke wheel is for the sedan, where as the three spoke wheel goes in the couple.
Silver blob: The silver blob at the bottom of the center stack and ahead of the shifter covers a 12-disc storage area. The door can also be covered with faux wood in ivory interiors or a grey plastic in graphite interiors.
ROBERTSMX: Good point on the suspension!
Impala LS maxes out at (gulp) $28,180 (no NAV)
Intrepid SXT maxes out at $25,800 (no NAV)
Camry XLE v6 is at $30,655 with same equip as EX-V6 nav.
Altima SE-V6 maxes out at $28,233 (no NAV)
Passat GLX-V6 maxes out at $30,375 (no NAV)
Granted, the domestics have some pretty heavy incentives going on, but I think Honda is quite appropriately priced compared to the competition.
What will be the price of a popularly equipped LX 4 door auto with those beautiful wheel covers? Will the LX have 15 or 16 inch tires, and what will the tread with be (205/215 etc?)
A comparable 02 Camry stickers at $21,397
[an LE with 3 options: 1) Pkg 1- includes keyless and pwr drivers seat. 2) ABS 3)Carpeted Floormats/Trunkmat.]

Maybe Edmunds reported this because the reviewer also noted that they drove an Altima SE to the road test and that may have biased them somewhat.
As for Newsweek: I read the Newsweek artical last night at the store about Honda's midlife makeover. It makes much of the Passat's demographics compared to Accord (Higher mean income/better (?)education/younger age). I don't think this is a fair comparision:
1. Accord sells 400K vs. 150K for Passat.
2. Accord starts at $16.0K vs. Passat at $21.5
3. Accord tops at $25.5K vs. $33.0K for Passat.
A more apples to apples comparision would have been to only compare EX Accord's to the Passat, which likely would have narrowed the statistics.
It also would have been interesting to compare the whole Accord range to that of the Camry, Taurus, Malibu or Impala, Status or Intrepid. My guess is that in this comparision, the Accord buyer is likely the youngest, most educated, and has a higher income. Only Toyota would likely be close.
The overall artical was pretty shallow, especially their lame photo comparisions of the two cars. Robert Cumberford they are not...
So, given that the 02 EX-V6 goes for $25,760, and it has been stated that NAV is a $2,500 option, that brings the 03 EX-V6 NAV total to $28,260.
I'm not sure how the $27,500 price we've been hearing is figured. Maybe that is the price without the $460 transportation charge. Or maybe the real price for NAV is $2,000, as it is with the Odyssey and Pilot.
