the trend these past years among auto manufacturers is to decontent. Is there any decontenting done in the new accord?
  • jeffrey15jeffrey15 Member Posts: 61
How bad is the black leather in the summer? I really want the silver color but am afraid of the black interior. I really would like grey interior. Some of the honda color combos don't make any sense. For instance the black with the beige interior and the silver with grey interior are just two examples.

I have a 1999 Accord EX I4 and was wondering what I should trade it in for. Maybe a new Accord EX with Automatic in Satin Silver, Graphite Pearl, Redondo Red, or Noble Green. Please tell me about the paint of these colors and if you have problems with your EX. Any options that I should get? I am in New York City

Good evening all, I am still looking for sites on the web to find parts for my 96 Accord in BLACK!!!!!

Black is beautiful if you have any patience. It can look good for more than 2 hours if you use the right wax and follow up with the right products!!!!!
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
I personally like the silver and the graphite. Would probably lean towards the silver though. Had a black coupe and it was a pain to keep it clean but yet again, it was worth it when it was clean.

I was not too impressed with the 4 cylinder engine, however the rest of the car is very well designed. Great interior, quiet, and a good driving position.
Once the dealer has unloaded a V6, I'll be back.
I think the graphite looks good, but am under orders to get the ivory interior. Not much color choice is there?
  • ickes_mobileickes_mobile Member Posts: 675
no evidence of decontenting. The new car is on par or better with features and amenities for about the same price. Looking at an EX-I4 this last weekend, I didn't see anything missing that is in our '01 EX-I4. Beyond that the new car has: Outlet for cell phone in the console, covered forward console bin (trade off of the cup holders), sliding arm rest, rear seat overhead light, spring loaded grab handles, tilt/telescope wheel, Lexus like gauges, better quality materials and switches, and more powerful engines all for about the same $$$.

We bought a 1998 Accord LX 4, and while there noticed the new 03 Accords parked there. I think that the pictures I have seen of it on the internet have done it an injustice, because it is a nice looking car. I do think the back could be tweaked just a bit, but that's it. I love the interior of it. The dark blue is a great color for this car!

I have the graphite pearl 03 accord. it looks great, and the dirt doesn't show like a black car. I love the grey interior. Plus the grey matches the front grey grille well.

Chrome exhaust finishers were standard in EX V6(02) but are not in 03.

We are leaning towards graphite or silver but already has a silver MDX so graphite but how difficult to keep it clean as up here October to March is SNOW and COLD time so difficult to wash it that often. Any comments from people who have owned similar colors. By the way up in Canada the color choice is limited (no gray leather).
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Chrome exhaust finishers have never been standard on any Accord.

    Unless Canada is different?
  • ghomazghomaz Member Posts: 68
A chrome exhaust finisher came standard on my 1996 Accord LX (4 cyl). I think Honda did away with this from 1998.
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
My 91 EX had 2 chrome tips but my 98 did not. Then again, the 91 exhaust was routed straight through a cutout in the bumper whereas the 98 exhuast is pretty well hidden with the exhaust curving downward from the muffler.
  • bodydoublebodydouble Member Posts: 801
were dealer-installed options on all '98 - '02. I think they were standard on some models in earlier generations. I know my '89 Coupe had one.
  • inky4inky4 Member Posts: 238
Honda was a big finisher company in early 90s even civics had them for sporty flair. Honda removed from civic in 96 onward, removed from all accords in 98 model onward.
Cut out bumpers would make it look sporty the downturned ones on the 03 especially look silly.
I put chomes on the 03 Accord V-6 and regret it but on there now. Coupe will have cut out and will look nice.

I guess Honda figured chrome tips on a sedan look too boy-racerish. Ever seen factory chrome tips on an LS430, or 5-series Bimmer, etc.?
  • toledo19toledo19 Member Posts: 119
I can't believe that Honda repeated the mistake of 94. This is NOT an attractive automobile. It resembles the rear of the 97-01 Camry. I hope it drives well. That will be its only saving grace.
  • toneman2toneman2 Member Posts: 19
Right you are. Design is a matter of opinion but as I said in my post under the 2003 redesign board a few days ago the '03 is one butt ugly car from every angle, front, rear and side. It is the idea of a new model which I am sure many are attracted to. I can't believe that this design will have any long lasting appeal. It is simply too ugly for that.
  • coolguyky7coolguyky7 Member Posts: 932
There's decontenting in the open cupholders. How is that center armrest? It looks kind of flimsy.
  • nwngnwng Member Posts: 663
i have a 97 accord and it has a chrome exhaust tip. I hope i can transfer it to another car when I trade it in, it looks really nice. By the way, my lowly 90 civic I just sold also had chrome tip, but I think it was stolen by the meineke guys when they change the muffler.

Have you gone and see one in person.

When the 03 pictures first came out I thought it looked weird. When I went down to look at it it looked very stylish and classy...

There aren't many original styling cues, but the entire package looks well thought out.

Guess design is a matter of opinion...you may like the aztek...I do not...

I also chk'd out the new 2003 and found it to be one of the best looking cars on the market today! I also drove it and found it to have a sure foot and great handling. The seats are very comfortable along with a wonderful layout of the dash. Had a friend ride in the rear and she found it to be very comfy with loads of room..(her words). Everyone has their own opinion of cars....seems you guys go out of your way to post the same song and dance on all the boards (like you have a mission). Most here see through your intentions.
For those of you that have yet to drive the new Accord....take it out for a long drive...stop and take a look from every angle...it's one beautiful machine. Oh and by the way...if you have a chance to chk out the dash at night.....this has to be the best I've seen yet.
    PS....I don't sell Hondas....just love em' ;')

Tough decision, huh? As I'm sure anybody here will tell you, there are a gazillion things that you should consider when deciding on which new model, color, options, etc., you should select.

All I can tell you is from my personal experience. Traded a 2000 EX-V6 for the new '03 EX-V6 in graphite pearl. I've run the gamut of Honda colors -- from a black Accord to a red Prelude to a silver Accord, and now I'm in graphite. I particularly love the gray leather and brushed aluminum (is that what it's called?) interior. I didn't really look at options other than what came loaded with the EX-V6 package, which was PLENTY for me. I LOVE this car -- by far, the best Honda I've owned, and better (in my opinion) than the relatively new Maximas and Camrys that my coworkers let me drive around while I was contemplating my decision (and looking on these message boards a lot). I've gotten stopped at three nearby gas stations by people who want to see my new car...even sit in it!

There's always the debate over I4 vs. V6 Accord (do you need that much hp), as well as those on here who go one step further and either declare all Hondas to be junk (essentially), Mazda is the new ruler of the universe, Hyundias are destined for glory, etc. Just take each one with a grain of salt! I definitely do!

Good luck in making your choices!

I agree with you --- the Accord dash at night is awesome! Are you in the market to buy a new '03, just looking out of curiosity, or do you already own one?? Whatever the case, your assessment of HolyToledo19 and Toneman2 was right on. Thanks!!

I can't remember where in Town Hall I read others asking why, with the high cost of the vehicle, can't Honda (Accord), Toyota (Camry), and Nissan (Maxima)warranty their vehicles for 10 years/100,000 miles like Hyundai? If the Honda's, Toyota's, and Nissan's are as great as the manufacturers claim, the manufacturers should not be afraid to back up their claims with a substantial warranty like the 10 year/100K. Does anyone else agree?

I'm just struggling with deciding on one of these three, or go with a GM or Ford Taurus and get an extended warranty. Any thoughts?

I drove a 2003 Accord (4 cyl) and it was very nice, much quieter than in years past and handled well, but I'm livid that in order to get a power seat I MUST get an EX, which means you MUST have leather and moonroof, which means you MUST be paying for these items (unless the dealer lead me astray). Cloth seats are very durable and cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter (I realize there are heated seats, but you have NO choice here! I would like to test the V6, but, again, you are stuck if you want a power driver's seat. I am not tall (a little less than 5'3") and like the flexibility of a power seat (not just up/down either!). Am I right that you also get no outside temp gauge unless you get the EX? I realize there are many disputes about the Camry vs. Accord, but at least Toyota does offer a Camry XLE (very nice) without leather and without moonroof! Maxima is nice cause their GXE with comfort/convenience package offers so much from power driver's seat to the nice sun visors to the outside temp. The dash layout in the Accord was great and easy to see!

Seems like some manufacturers are offering more than Honda wants to offer its many customers! Oh, yes, the interior colors are VERY limited, and the ivory in the car I tested is so light it is going to be VERY difficult to keep clean! The test car already had finger marks on the headliner and shoe marks on the area along the door! The rest of the interior is laid out nicely, but, oh, that light color!

    Sorry for rambling!
  • maxamillion1maxamillion1 Member Posts: 1,467
I believe it has had an 8-way power seat since 1999.

Are allowed to have their opinions about the new Accord. You other guys need to lighten up, it's only a car! That's the one thing that makes Edmunds the coolest site on the web, we can all agree to disagree and still talk about our love for the automobile! So let's all lighten up and enjoy the forum!!
By the way, I really do like the new Accord. It'll be interesting to see the new Mazda 6 and how it stacks up to the Accord and the Camry.

I did see them in person and in fact test drove the EX V6 a week ago last Wednesday. I was looking forward to it with a lot of anticipation having followed the discussion over the last month and one half on these boards. Contrary to the what appears to be the majority opinion, I liked the look of it from the pictures. In person I did not like it at all - again appears to be the opposite of what many others have found who liked it better in person than in the pictures. As I also reported in my other post from that test drive I felt every bump in the road. Others suggested that it might be the result of improper tire inflation. Apparently Honda ships at 45psi to prevent flat spotting and the dealer may not have reduced the tire pressure to the correct level. I also reported and will say so again so my motives are not called into question, that I thought the interior was great. Styling is stricly a matter of opinion and no I do not like the Aztek either. I'm more of a Passat kind of guy on the issue of styling. For those whom I offended by expressing my opinion, sorry for disrupting the lovefest.

Why is it always the people who don't have Accords or have no intentions of buying one that have negative things to say about them?

The Accord is just as good, if not better, than any other car in it's class and any argument otherwise is based on subjectiveness. I happen to think the new Accord is a logical evolution of the previous gen. They added more content, more power, and kept the prices the same .. what else you you ask for?

As for the chrome tips ... I had them added onto my coupe and they looked very nice. My SI does have the dual chrome exhaust tips though so maybe Honda is going back in the direction of making them standard.

Really! ! Could it be the dealer just isn't giving me the entire scoop? I may have to call another Honda dealer to see for sure! Maybe there is a chance of a power seat yet!

Wish I were a little more comfortable responding in Town Hall -- do I always have to go back to POST in order to answer?

    Thanks for writing back!

I realize there are many disputes about the Camry vs. Accord, but at least Toyota does offer a Camry XLE (very nice) without leather and without moonroof!
    Camry XLE: $22,300 (moonroof: opt)
Accord EX: $22,500 (moonroof: std; leather: No)

But with Accord, you would also get alloy wheels, CD changer and side air bags as standard equipment (optional on Camry XLE). The Camry doesn't look as nice to me. And here is another option...
Accord LXV6 $23,000 (no moonroof, no leather). Sure, it is $700 more expensive than 4-banger Camry XLE, but you also get side a/b, traction control and CD changer as standard equipment (besides the V6 engine ofcourse).

out the carsdirect website. Selling 2003 Accord EXV6 for $25,274. What happen to MSRP for 6 months. Guess I will be shopping a lot sooner than I thought!!!!
  • diploiddiploid Member Posts: 2,286
I keep telling yous, it's insane to pay MSRP for a car that sells over 400K+ units each year!
  • asm0721asm0721 Member Posts: 13
Call Muray's Honda in Dubois..Ask for Matt F. 814-371-5502...They are selling all 03 Accord's approx 700 over dealer cost. I got about 1800 off MSRP on my 03 V6 Accord...They are a great dealer to deal with....I think anbody is insane to pay MSRP on any vehicle...Dealer's always have a little room to play with....

I wasn't attacking anyone's family, just the styling of an automobile! And, please tell me where I've posted other negative comments except for the 300m drive. I love autos and there are many that far exceed the looks of the accord.
  • automotionalautomotional Member Posts: 14
I wish I were in the market for a new car right now - I would snap up an Accord coupe sight unseen. I've checked out the sedan and love the interior. The exterior styling, I think, will appear fresh for many years while some others will appear dated. But from what pics I've seen of the coupe, I would buy that in a sec, at a fair price of course.

Any Canadians out there purchased a 2003 ex 4?

Were you able to deal below list which I understand is $30,300? Need to know as I am hot to trot.
  • maurice9maurice9 Member Posts: 6
I was able to negotiate a price for the 2003 Ex V6 for 24600$. Am I paying too much? I am willing to wait a little longer for a better price, but can anyone predict when they will sell them around invoice? Help!
  • splitoesplitoe Member Posts: 19
I just came from Edmunds MB townhall site. There was a heated debate as which of MB or BMW is a better car. Just like the discussion here: which of Accord or Camry is a better car.

It all depends on you, as the buyer, to define what is 'better'. Accord and Camry are just different cars to different taste. Besides a 2001 E320, I also have a 2000 Camry and a 2002 Accord. For me, I like Camry better and am turned off by the Accord noise, from engine, A-pillar and moonroof. This is not to say Accord is not a good car, but I enjoy the quietness of E320 and Camry more.

Just bought the 03 Accord V-6L and the Pilot EX.
The Accord is great no complaints but its only day 2. Dealer took a grand off each but was high on extended warranty. With new models, I'm considering extended warranties. Any info on dealers selling the Honda Care warranty at a discount?
  • moonkatmoonkat Member Posts: 265
    js32:
Can you compare the Pilot and Accord in terms of comfort, quiet, & sound system?

I am looking to upgrade our 99 Ody EX now that wife got her Pilot.

    I've driven 03 i4 & V6 Accord EXs, but only briefly.

    TIA

I want a 03 silver LX-V6 with grey cloth interior but am bummed out because it comes only with black interior. Has anyone told Honda how hot a black interior gets? Why such limited options - I think it was available in 02?? Any chance they will come to their senses and issue it with grey - a special edition maybe?

I drove an EX-V6 and LX-4 last week. V6 very peppy! Grey interior is very pretty. Both models seem to have short front seats, little thigh support just above knee - and I'm only
    5'5"

When people say "I got a car for only $700 over dealer cost," what is included in dealer cost - destination, doc. proc., adv, and other holdbacks/add-ons, or do you mean true cost (+tax)? I've seen lots of invoices (or pseudo-invoices) with built in dealer profit masquerading as "cost.". Toyota is terrible about this. Not sure about Honda.

If we were more specific in these Discussion Groups when we talk about "invoice" or "cost," it would be more helpful.

    Many thanks

I had splash guards installed on my new 03 accord, I dont believe that they are 03's
they had to drill holes to install when there is already a black plug, looks like they are a little short, like they would fit on a Civic. Any advice on finding out if they are truely 03 splash guards? Not sure if I like the look
  • maxamillion1maxamillion1 Member Posts: 1,467
    Yes Procrastinatr2,
The Accord LXV6 comes standard with the 8 way power driver's seat. I saw this in the Accord sedan brochure.

The splash guards on the new Accord are kind of small IMO. The front ones are especially small. The look very similar to the ones found on the Civic. I like them though.
  • diploiddiploid Member Posts: 2,286
Check the Honda website. You can also use Edmunds to look at the standard/optional equipment/features listed for your 03 Accord.
  • ivan_99ivan_99 Member Posts: 1,681
No need to apologize; I was just trying to spice up the love fest. I too think the Passat is a great looking car. I actually think the Passat with the 1.8T is one of the best deals out there.
  • bartalk2bartalk2 Member Posts: 326
Here's one for you. In the brochure on the coupe, listed under dealer-installed accessories, is a day/night mirror with compass. In the brochure on the 4-door, that option is not listed.

Question: Can the dealer install said mirror on the 4-door models??
