If it were the new styling of the Accord, how does that explain the sales drop of the Camry?
Hope this helps...
Thanks!
Accord: 33,312
Camry: 28,266
Civic: 27,505
And they are all down. It appears that sales of almost every vehicle suffered compared to last September. People rushed for model year end closeout and now it may take a while to get them back to showrooms. Kinda like how stores look after the holidays.
Camry: 33,062 -8.6% (DSR change from Oct 2001)
Accord: 32,816 -11%
Civic: 23,056 -11.8%
It's important to remember that the auto industry measures the percentage change in the daily sales rate, DSR (based on the number of selling days in the month). Also sales are seasonal, so one has to compare with last year, not last month. Even so, it's interesting to see that on an absolute basis, Camry sales increased by about 5K this month over last month (see earlier post), while Accord sales were down a bit.
I'm no fan of the boring Camry, but have been disappointed by Honda's efforts in the redesign of both the Civic and Accord.
Someone had posted ID-ing the place of birth by the VIN #.. for the life of me, I cant find it. Can someone please repost?
I think if it starts w/ a "J" its Japan, "1" is Ohio...
thx guys!
The new Accord is no disappointment to me. IMO, Its a huge improvement over its predecessor and a benchmark car in its class. Not sure what you expected Honda to do.
1: USA (my Accord)
2: Canada (my Civic)
J: Japan
and they tell me it won't arrive before the end of November. My salesguy told me it was because of the recent port strike. I ordered the silver and this colour is apparently very popular.
Everyone has a different expectation about a redesigned car. I take it for granted that Honda will make the usual improvements in NVH, crash protection, emissions, fuel economy, not to mention horsepower to satisfy the never ending thirst for more. Styling wise, I find the evolutionary Civic dull, and the Accord bloated looking (even though parts of it are very stylish). My hunch is that even though the bloated look is 'in' nowadays, it won't be that hot with would-be Accord buyers. Time will tell.
2=ontario (pilot)
3=mexico (small # of accords)
4=indiana (passport/rodeo)
5=alabama (odyssey)
j=japan (s2000/insight/accord/civic/Si/hybrid)
k=korea (kia/hyundai)
s=UK (crv)
GM -32% (-39.9% for cars, -25.7% light trucks)
Ford -35% (don't know break down)
Chrysler -31% (-34.7% for cars, -29.8% light trucks)
So it's not just Accord or Camrys, it's every where. If any dealer tries to sell you an Accord for MSRP, you can laugh in their face as hard as you can.
Happy motoring
Thanks.
I drove the 2003 Accord EX V6 yesterday. Very nice car, but the steering seemed to drift to the right. (I then drove the same roads with my 1999 EX V6: steady steering, no drifting right).
I saw another posting which mentioned the same problem, so I decided to ask for feedback from others.
Also, when comparing sales figures between Camry and Accord, be aware that Camrys are sold en masse to the rental car companies while Accords are not.
Regarding drifting, I still have it after multiple trips to the dealer - only to the left for my EXV6. It is maddening, and is not a small issue. The service manager has pontificated that it is because of the "electric steering", information provided as part of a condescending primar I received on my last visit. I have had rotations, alignments - and now "they all do it". I am going to try driving another example of my car and see that one does "drifts" also. I was also told that it was casused by the crown in the road. As if there are contemporary roads without a crown. I'm disgusted.
Thanks,
INKY
Good Luck and hope you get it resolved.

Also, following up with the same question awhile back, the cars that are giving these drifting problems are made where?
Sorry to hear about your problems mates...
- did you notice that the metal/chrome trim had some "play" prior to going into the shop?
- is there any play now or noise when it is pushed?
our rattle disappeared this weekend (for about 70 miles so far)...i inspected our chrome trim after prebmw's tip and found it to be fairly tight. certainly, if i pushed hard in places, it would make a small noise, but i also observed this to be true to the rear window which doesn't seem to rattle. sigh...i did notice this weekend that i'm starting to get used to it or something...but now that it's disappeared (for good?), if it comes back, i'm sure i will notice its reappearance!
1) 27.5 mpg
2) 27.1
3) 35.2
4) 28.8
tanks 1,2, and 4 are mixed driving: lots of city interlaced with some stop and go (not terrible) highway driving.
tank 3 was a highway trip with 75 mph speeds and A/C on.
not bad. my guess, based on past experience is that mixed driving will settle in at around 30 mpg and the highway driving will top out at around 38 mpg [40+ if driven at slower 65 mph speeds].
I would like to hear what people think of the performance of the 2003 four cylinder Accord. I am interested in buying the car, but have to commute and would like the increased fuel efficiency of the four banger. I would be purchasing the automatic version.
Thanks for your time,
since you mentioned experience driving a non-vtec civic, i thought i'd offer a few additional thoughts:
i also drive a 2000 Civic EX coupe (vtec) with a 5 spd. the 2003 Accord I4 (automatic) feels as fast as my Civic, yet it is much more effortless. i think i could get to 0-60 in about the same time in both cars, but i need to rev the Civic harder to get the torque up there. the low end torque of the Accord I4 is much better and thus it provides much easier acceleration. [can't defy the laws of physics. vtec/i-vtec or no vtec, the 2.4 litre engine will have a lot better low end torque than a 1.6 litre one.
finally, my wife and i also test drove the 2003 Civic EX sedan with automatic prior to buyin the accord. the 2003 Accord I4-auto is definitely faster than the Civic EX with automatic. [and the transmission is 10x smoother]
i think you'd be very happy with the I4 2003 Accord.
