He starts by talking about the DX and then goes on to say:

Only later does he introduce the LX V6. So clearly he's talking about the 4cyl LX.
Why should the LX be any more "quiet, peppy, refined" or handle any different from the DX? And does the DX have inferior "materials and construction"?
Everything I've researched suggests that there should be no differences in the areas mentioned.

WHY YOU ARE MIXING TWO DIFFERENT statements ????
I think the Euro Accord looks like a Mazda 6 and would be a good competitor to the 6 here in the USA. In short, it'd be faster, but not handle as well (the last review I read put it ahead of even the TL for handling). Now, it's be silly to argue which car is really better, but let's just settle and agree that they'd be good competitors, down to personal preference. It'd be nice to have variety among thrifty sport sedans, but only if the price it near the 6. I doubt that could happen under the Acura badge. So, like I said, just offer some of the underpinnings as a sport package on the Accord to keep the price where it belongs.
If the US is getting Europe's Honda at Acura prices, then the US is getting shafted big time. If I may say so, I don't WANT them to change anything on the car to make it more upscale. It already darn good, so let's not inflate the price! What we need is Euro handling and a manual V6 option. So if they keep the price the same and put a different badge just to emphisize sportiness among the brand, then I welcome it to the market. If not, well, hey- I'd rather take the Mazda anyway :-)
The reason that most of the car makers are turning on low fuel warning lights so soon is simple: the consequences of running out of fuel in a catalyst-equipped car can be dire, even dangerous, if a combination of misfiring and a hot catalyst result in an exhaust fire. There is a simple rule in the car business these days - do everything necessary to keep drivers from running out of fuel, and potentially doing expensive damage to the engine, emissions, and fuel systems.
I follow the boards for virtually everything German and Japanese, and this is a common question that must come up at least once a month. Yes, the light will come on with as much as 20-25% left in the tank; no, there is nothing wrong; no, this is not unique to Honda [or fill-in-the-blank].
It's my personal prejudice to never run the tank lower than about 1/3 if I can do anything about it sooner, but circumstances can vary and this is why all of the car makers are positively paranoid about the possibility of having the car run out of fuel. It's the same philosophical reasoning that requires airbag warnings, seatbelt chimes, and now, tire pressure monitors. These guys are anxious not to meet so many of their customers in court...
Fuel light warning: A few years back I had a Honda Tech (nice guy) tell me that I shouldn't allow the tank to get too low. He explained to me that grunge from the ground tanks, at gas stations, collect alot of dirt over time and those end up in your fuel tank in small amounts. Over time the buildup continues and starts plugging up your fuel filter. Sounded pretty convincing to me, so I didn't let my tank get too low from that moment on. I've seen some ground tanks get excavated and they were a real mess outside/inside.
Occasionally it will have problems with java stuff, but it's easy enough to copy the URL and drop it into either IE or Netscape when that happens. For the other benefits -- speed, tabbed browsing, far fewer crashes (but not NO crashes) -- I don't mind that part.
You can also use it to manage cookies, but I don't since I have a separate cookie manager.

How do you think it really works ? It has to be based on a simple float type level switch.
Gee if it installed at slightly the wrong height it will close circuit at the wrong time, i.e. with too many gallons left in the tank.

My criteria in a new car is simple: power win/locks, a CD player, A/C, keyless entry, and probably style.
That's why I would personally choose the Accord DX over a Civic. It may not have as much features as the 02 Accord LX, but I like the new Accord's looks and I'd be happier with that than whatever gadgets the 02 LX has to offer cause my criteria is very simple.
Of course, srockr ultimately makes the decision.
After lots of searching, I have found one but being the cynical person I am, I'm concerned about a few things:
- it has pretty low miles, maybe too low. perhaps the car has been in a wreck, flooded or has body damage (the seller claims not to sell those type cars).
- it's priced about $2000 above edmunds tmv [firm] (but I've found during my research that other dealers price older models of this car, (same model, trim, many more miles) slightly lower than or equal to the asking price; of course other sellers negotiate price, too)
- since it's so hard to find, i haven't test driven one yet (but maybe it'll be okay? it can't be any worse than my rusting 120 hp '90 accord)
- in order for me and the car to be in the same place for me to check it out, some travelling (hundreds of miles) is required.
What do you guys think? Should i at least arrange to check out the car in person?
There's always a chance that a vehicle meeting my criteria will pop up locally. But i've been searching for a while w/o luck, and I'm not optimistic. Plus, I'm now in the situation where my current vehicle may not hold up much longer.
If you can get the vin# you can run a free car fax basic check at one of the sites but that won't tell you everything.
I'd ask this board what they think is a good price for the veh. in question or ask a local dealer to see if they can locate the vehicle that meets your criteria and perhaps find a certified vehicle. Even if you travel to the car that you are looking at....do you have the expertise to check out the vehicle? How will you know if the frame is bent w/o putting it on a lift?
Does it matter if I could purchase a new 2002 for $1k more, if I can't find one for sale?
The warning light comes up at about 13.0 gallons (on and off) in my 98 Accord, and that has never bothered me. I usually fill it up by next gallon or two. I wouldn't prefer to be reminded when I have only 2 gallons or less to go, even if it didn't hurt the engine/emissions or whatever. It is easy to get stuck in traffic, or not find a gas station within miles. Better to be safe than sorry.
The Euro/JDM Accord is expected here in the USA as an Acura (TSX) and a forum exists right here. Initial speculations are about 200-250 HP variants of the 2.4 liter engine. Japan is currently getting 200 HP @ 6800 rpm/172 lb.-ft @ 4500 rpm variant of the same four cylinder engine that American Accord uses. This might be the 'base' engine in the TSX if it arrives here. Some Euro magazines are speculating on a 250 HP performance model to replace the Type-R model, but at this point, it is simply a rumor. If that happens, it could power the Type-S variant here.

Picking Mine up 11/12, and cant have this... Actually, its why I'm going to Honda in the 1st Place!!! My 2000 Passat has been great (little/no probs) but the dealer gave me an estimate of $2000 for 60k services (timing belt, water pump, O2 sensors, brakes, etc)... Figured $2k that I would spend + trade in = the new Accord EX-6

A couple of months ago, I got into an exchange with a Nissan fan (cding) when he posted the above message. I guess Edmunds has shown how wrong he was...
"While the Nissan felt far quicker than the Accord due to increased engine roar and vibration, we could only manage a 6.8-second 0-to-60-mph time."
"...yet we tested our long-term V6 Altima the same day and found it only two-tenths faster than the Accord in the quarter-mile (though the loud and raucous engine made the Nissan seem much faster)."
"Loud and raucous"? "Increased engine roar and vibration"? Doesn't sound very refined to me. And they're abundantly clear on the fact that the Honda V-6 is much more quiet and refined. "Ultrarefined — yet powerful — V6 engine" is what they said.

And that noise isn't a bad thing. Heck, look at all the R&D that went into making the sounds of the Mazda6's new engines. The Altima and 6 are both sporty cars and should make these sporty noises, while the Accord does not and should not. I wouldn't call the quiet engine more "refined" just on it's volume, because they refined the Altima's engine it sound that way, and thank goodness they did!

For the record, many testers and owners have pointed out the fact that the Accord/Acura V-6's have an induction growl that many people find quite satisfying. Although the Accord isn't all "hey, look at me... I'm REALLY sporty!!!!" like the Altima and 6, it's hardly the "car as appliance" that fans of the latter 2 cars claim it is.
Anyway, my point stands... cding claims that the Altima engine is quieter and more refined than the Accord engine, and Edmunds clearly disagrees. You may or may not like the Altima's more noticeable engine noise, but it's there regardless.
