I just traded in my 95 Accord 5 spd, and that noise started occuring about 20k miles, and continued to 138k miles without any problem. The transmission still shifted like new (and still had the original clutch!).
As for is it bad. I don't think so but check with the dealer.
Two questions to qsmooth. Have you increased the width of your tires? And how many miles do you have?
By the way, it sounds like you have a very low milage car. I'd check and see if the market value of the car was higher than your residual. If you can sell the car yourself for $11,000 and the residual is $10,000, most leases will allow you to give them a check for $10,000 and you keep the car; sell it and keep the profit. Check www.kbb.com for trade in vs retail value against your residual due amount. Doesn't work all the time because sometimes Honda Finance gives out some killer leases...but it's worth a look.
1) 12K, problem w/ the throttle, sending engine to 6-7K in first; dealer kept the car for 3 days for an ordered part (**this part has never gone bad before, so we don't have them here**!)
2) 15K, FR wheel bearings replaced
3) 25K, clutch died, traced broken clutch seal
4) 31K, engine malfunction light came on, traced to a broken vent valve.
Am I being paranoid when I detect a pattern (esp now that I'm approaching 3Y/36K) or do these 'things' happen? I am planning to write Honda QA. All help appreciated.
-get the LX-ABS, which is a perfectly well-equipped vehicule for my personal needs (I don't have kids and I don't expect to tow anything)
-pay 2,000 $CDN more for the LX-V6 which has everything the LX has, plus V6, side-airbags and traction control
Question #1: is the traction control useful (winter driveability is one of my top criteria)?
Question #2 for Canadians: how hard is it to get a good deal on an LX-ABS versus an LX-V6? Is it possible to pay 1,000 $CDN or more under MSRP?
p.s. obviously I'm trying to rationalize spending money for fun
Quick, simple and everybody seems happy.
You guys always asking what $$$ to pay - use the Edmonds TMV $$$ - it works.
I remember you saying back in post 858 that your wipers would wipe when you put them on intermittent and pumped the breaks (as did mine). I took mine to the dealer and they stated that Honda Engineers said it was due to the after market alarm on my car. Do you have an after market alarm installed on your car?
davket,
The info in the manual says to have the honda dealer change it every 30K.
The dealer also say that the tapping noise in my dash is coming from the siren that is attached to the firewall. The tapping noise got worse today after changing an interior panel. Maybe the siren gained weight :-)
My best deal so far is this:
$288
39 months
$0 Down
12k/year
$1500 d.a.s including 1st month payment,Tax,Title,DMV,$300 Cap cost reduction.
It seems that the Selling price is $100 over TMV pricing by Edmunds standards. Anybody seen any better?
If I wait until next month, what are the chances of the lease rate going up due to Residual value decrease?
Thanks
Seems like a nice feature to have the wipers wipe when you get under way. However, the dealer talked to honda engineers and they stated that this is not a normal feature and the car should not do this. Wiping faster as you speed up is a feature though. They said they would need to run diagnostics and if the alarm was the problem they would charge me $140 if not then Honda would look into it. I'm sure if Honda finds that this is happening on a lot of cars it will become a feature. :-) My worry is that this might be a component anomaly on a batch of cars.
I know how frustrating to deal with dealers. As far as I understand, dealer says tapping is caused by siren right? What about the people who installed the alarm system, did you ask them.
You might find to try to unisntall the siren and drive your car that way. At least you will know whether it was the reason or not. My siren was installed right behind the windshiels washer tank, into frame.
I just might go to the alarm shop and have them take the siren out and see what happens. The odd thing is the noise use to be a squicking sound and only turned into a tapping sound when the dealer touched it. I'll give the dealer the benefit of the doubt until I get the siren removed. Thanx for the advise.
1.Wipers set to lowest intermitant setting swipe every 4 sec about with foot on brake and make an imediate swipe when let off brake to give a clear view starting off.
2.After vehicle gets up to 13 mph they automaticly adjust the speed to the same speed as the low setting unless you move the intermitant speed up off the slowest then it goes as you set it.
there is a service news that is out on this and a new release of this info just came out in the latest service news.
I would like to know if there is a noticeable difference in noise level between accord 2000 and 2001 model year. Right now we own accord Y2K lx five speed and I'm thinking about replacing 1998 escort with another accord. My only negative about Y2K accord is that when driving over not so smooth roads the noise level is on the high side.
Y2K accord, manual, bought new 10/30/99, current mileage 35000 miles

Honda zone office did admit that there was a service bulletin (NOT a recall) issued awhile ago for some rear wheel bearings not being properly sealed which caused them to collect dirt & leak lube. They also brought up fact that I was beyond warranty.
I told them I thought this was way too early for bearings to go. They were suggesting I claim on my extended warranty but, I pushed the issue that I thought factory warranty should cover it. They agreed & contacted dealer to repair under orig warranty claim. Vehicle is back to normal.
I have to say, this is first major prob I've had. Honda has been very good to me over the course of owning this. They even replaced all my alloy wheels for no charge shortly before factory warranty was up simply because they noticed they were pitting. They did this when I brought car in for scheduled maint.
I would buy another Accord (this is my 2nd one).
Just wanted to pass this word along to other owners in case you experience same problem.
why not offer $20,000 flat for the 4 cylinder ex with cloth....if they don't go for it, then offer $300 less than what you're bottom line offer would have been-- if this dealer tacks on fabric and paint protection, you got to penalize them...
if they say no, do as dionne warwick does-- just walk on by...
Invoice on that car is $20,198.
Thanks for all your comments, it has helped me immensely. I finally bought a 2001 EX a couple of days ago.
I have only one question. When I press the lock button on my remote, the alarm does not chirp. All it does is flash the light to confirm that I have locked it. I asked the dealership if there was a way to make it chirp, and they were not sure.
I would really, really appreciate it if you could tell me how to make it chirp, because it is difficult to know if I have locke it or not without the confirmation sound.
Thanks in advance.
I saw that if I pressed the button a second time, it makes the horn sound. But I am looking for the chirp. Although I realize that this is annoying, please let me know if you have any idea how to make it 'Chirp'.

Does anyone know of a good online dealer that might sell the Honda wheels for less? I got mats and other accessories from Partscheap previously, but they don't list wheels on the website.
TireRack has lots of styles, but I don't like the aftermarket look as much as the Honda wheels.
Any suggestions?

We were looking to buy a Camry LE with side air bags, ABS in North Texas but can't find one without ordering from the factory. Got tired of dealing with N. Texas Toyota dealers(one guy did a bait and switcn on us --- we almost bought a camry le with abs when i noticed the the car we were buying did not have the "night vision" mirror we wanted), Gulf States Toyota dealers seem to be a pain to deal with ---try find a 4 cylinder LE with ABS & side airbags in Texas!
So we are looking at the EX -- has all the goodies we want and those we don't want(sunroof).
Question: how do present accord owners feel about the suspension? We will be carrying a 2-3 year old in the rear --- so we are particularly concerned about the suspension in the back.
I know the Camry is reportedly quieter than the Accord EX, but was not sure by how much.
Thanks.
