I am new here.
Got 2002 LS430 Nav/ML.
So far so good. Gonna get new tires Mich. Pilot Sport AS in few weeks.
I would like to thank everybody for their support and contribution.
Thankyou
audio - apparently 2001 LS430s have a documented
flakey audio system (see Toyota Service Bulletin
AU001-01 from October 2001 ) and I can only
hope that this erratic on/off audio situation will be consistent enough so I can take it into the dealer and not look like I'm some kinda ditz.
To jaymk - re: tires
wwest is absolutely correct, the Bridgestone Turanzas are the way to go for the legendary Lexus "quiet ride" experience. I bought an extra
set of Lexus alloys and mounted Blizzaks for the winter months, so safety isn't compromised when summer tires just don't cut it.
Do you guys know the exact model # so I can check it out if Costco carries it.
But one thing I dont get it. If you look at tirerack Mich.Pilot has got the highest ratings in all the departments.

I've read through most of the previous posts in my post-buy euphoria and appreciate the knowledge and helpfulness displayed here. I do have one question mixed in with my giddyness. Do you recommend purchasing a warranty through Lexus (where it's been maintained 100%) or aftermarket? I'm not even sure if Lexus offers a warranty since it's 6 years old.
Appreciate your thoughts.
By the way...GO PANTHERS!!!
If it's my money, I'd rather save it than get an AM warranty for a car with only 21K miles. I don't care how many years it's been in use, that is a low-miler car. It should last you like, forever....
I have a '99 loaded just like yours with phone/Nav/HID, the works. I have 76K miles and it still drives like it just came off the factory line. Of course, it has never missed its scheduled maintainance. That, imo, is the key to longevity.... Oh, there is a TSB on the '98 for the outside mirror when in Reverse. Make sure you take it to the dealership ASAP to have this changed regardless if they say otherwise. Better to be safe than sorry. If you don't fix it now, it will cost you close to $600 for each mirror if it malfunctions and doesn't tilt down in "R" as it should. That should be it.
Enjoy yours, I am certainly enjoying mine.
Any recommendations on where to get the Turanza?
I was in Dallas and checked couple of dealers but nobody has the Ultra Package in stock.
Is it possible for us to see on the dealers website what vehicles they have it in stock. I know we can check the Preowned inventory but I was not able to see the new car list.

What do you think?

How many owners have a tracking device on theirs ? May be a useful thing to have afterall...
Now, they figure if you want to pay for the option, you'll renew and not have to worry about it.
Personally, I've found the whole service obsolete these days which cell phones, auto clubs and now with the SmartKey technology. I've had it on three GM vehicles and elected not to renew after the first year.
I paid for it for 3 years and used it once for a flat tire. I won't miss it. I'll just use my bluetooth cell phone
Having had 3 OnStar systems, I wasn't upset. Good riddence!
The LS has a firmer, less floaty ride - glad I didn't opt for the Euro suspension. But the LS ride is superior in terms of quietness and a smooth shifting transmission. The Lexus has more power, and is much quieter in using it. The Cadillac had more body noises on bumps, the Lexus is QUIET.
Two disappointments:
1. I've had "retained accessory power" in Cadillacs for a decade - Lexus surprisingly doesn't have it. That's where you can operate accessories like audio for up to ten minutes after turning off the key (and removing it), provided a door is not opened. The Lexus is instant off.
2. Re: CD playing - When playing randomized tracks in the Cadillac and you would go back one song you would replay the actual last one played: Convenient! In the Lexus it backs up one track number, which is usually NOT the one last played when doing randomized. Inconvenient!
I think Cadillac has more advanced electronics. With Cadillac there were a bunch of user-programmable options that on Lexus have to be done by the dealer. And when I went to the dealer to have one reprogrammed (that the owner's manual says is reprogrammable) they had no information about it, but promised to find out. Also Cadillac's driver information displays were more extensive and their tire pressure monitor really monitored and displayed the tire pressure in PSI, whereas Lexus relies on the detection of a speed difference (smaller radius) in a low-pressure wheel, but even so still doesn't reveal which one is turning too fast.
Since there's no factory door edge guards and mud flaps, I am thinking about using 1" tape for door edge and wider one for lower body, bumpers and hood (maybe headlights, too).
