I agree; ten to fifteen percent under invoice sounds quite reasonable for the miles you stated on those vehicles. I definitely would not go any higher than ten, given the incentives offered on these vehicles at the end of their cycle.

Looking to buy, probably order, an Outback Limited 2.5L on Long Island. Willing to travel up to 50 miles to Connecticut or Jersey. Has anyone been able to get the car for close to invoice?? Thanks--Charlie
I just finished helping a friend price a 2010 Outback 2.5i Premium All Weather in Eastern PA (pick up the car tomorrow, so can post dealer info, etc once we close successfully.) After reading the postings from last month, I thought we'd be able to get a similar deal, with $500 under invoice seeming to be an achievable goal. I called/E-mailed 6 dealers within 60 miles (all within PA) that appeared to have some level of inventory listed online and learned a few things:
1) The online inventory at the dealers' websites was not well updated. Most of the cars we were interested in were already gone. Inventory of this particular model in the acceptable colors (only Silver or White) was low. 2) Two of the larger-volume dealers mentioned that there was a dealer incentive in December to help achieve a yearly sales target. They wouldn't quantify an amount. There appears to be no such incentive now since the year just started and the model is selling well. 3) When I mentioned I was looking for $500 under invoice to take an in-stock vehicle, two dealers quickly responded with a "no thank you" and the conversation ended. Very different responses from when I priced a 2009 Outback for myself last year!
All that being said, we ended up agreeing to a 2.5i Premium PZEV with the CVT, All Weather Package, Remote Start, and Auto-Dim Mirror w/ Compass and Homelink (MSRP $27485) for the Invoice price of $25744. In addition and after some debate, they threw in All Weather Mats, the Rear Bumper Protector, and Splash Guards (Invoice on these 3 accessories totals $175) at no charge.
Best price (on the surface) was from one dealer ~60 miles away for $327 under invoice, but it had some additional accessories that we didn't want (to pay for) and it didn't have the remote start and homelink which were must-haves. They would have sold us these accessories at cost, but wanted 2 hours of labor ($150) to install them. Once the difference gets <$200, I think it's better to buy locally to take advantage of the free oil changes, inspections, etc that most dealers offer these days. Just my opinion, though.
Not as good of a deal as I was expecting, but got the preferred color (White) with the exact options/accessories that were desired and nothing extra. Hopefully things go well tomorrow with no surprises.
Ordered from Bill Kolb Subaru. "Built" the car on the Van Bortel website--no dealer on Long Island would match that price. Went to Bill Kolb--about 30 miles from home and saved over $1000. Easy deal. Highly recommend--will provide follow up when the car arrives.
I used USAA buying program. My best price was in NJ but I live in CT. CT prices are a lot higher than invoice so no deals here comparable to posted deals.
I ended buying from a local dealer for about 3% off sticker. Had to pay for BT listed price at $460. I got BT for my laptop at $10.
After shopping around in Seattle area, I finally purchased a 2010 Outback Premium with following options: All whether package, all whether floormats, dimm light with compass and homelink, mudguards, moonroof, and rear bumper cover. MSRP was 28339, I paid 26100 for it before tax and doc.Dearler also threw in a set of wheel lock.
The question is will you get get better elsewhere?
Are you happy with the price and dealership? Stock is so low and wait for custom orders so long, that if its the model & spec you want, I say just do it.
I will end up waiting 15 weeks for what I wanted at the best price .....
Heck yes that's a good price! Now go buy that Outback quick before someone else snatches it up. I have to say I love my 2.5i and I live in Eastern PA, it handles the mountains, the rain, and the snow like no other vehicle I have ever owned, and the gas mileage cannot be beat. I hope you are as happy when you bring your new Subie home as I am Good luck and let us know how you make out!
Remember, if you are near Philly, go to the show tomorrow (Sunday) and make your deal on Monday. Subaru's month end quota ends on MONDAY so dealers should be flexible with their discounts (depending on how anxious they are to meet their quota)
Yeah, they actually had a NY show (not The Auto show in the city, but in Suffern NY), NJ show and Philly show all during the same weekend (odd).
I think you may be referring to the Chevy Stingray? I took some photos of it (check out my site) but unfortunately they did not have the doors open. But one cool, sharp looking car!

I am looking to buy a 2010 Outback 2.5i with leather. The Limiteds are hard to find in Ohio so I have had several dealerships offer me the option of having the seats in a Premium redone in leather. It is done by a company called Classic Soft Trim with a limited lifetime warranty. Is this a good solution for lowering my cost and still getting leather?
I have an offer for $25,913 plus tax (6.5%) and title on one with moonroof and all weather pkg. What do you think?
this is the consumer report bottome line to negotiate.. with 2.5i premium moonrooft. Consumer Reports Bottom Line Price The place to start when negotiating. It takes into account the current dealer incentives and holdbacks that may be in effect. Consumer Reports Bottom Line Price $25,011 you can probably get it at this price.. I can buy it at this price from the dealer tin george town texas. check out the internet sale maanger he is the one that im dealing with... im debating on a 3.6 limtied I order with home link mirror no sunroof. for 29,200.00.. which takes 2 months to order..
I am in the market for a 2010 Legacy 3.6R, have never owned or shopped for a Subaru before, Does Subaru generally offer cash rebates, if so is there a time of year you would most likely see them. I see a current APR incentive which helps if you use it. The best quote I have received so far is $200 below invoice, Should I be able to do better? Live in upstate NY
Subaru has offered cash incentives in the past (last time was on '09 Legacy/Outback), but their cars have sold like hotcakes since at least July and they have not offered any cash incentives. If I recall correctly, they have not offered any cash incentives on Impreza or Forester since their last redesign ('08 and '09, respectively). Given the new Outback's popularity, I doubt we will see cash incentives on it or the Legacy any time soon.

I did the same thing on a 2000 outback years ago. (buying a lower model and having leather put in it). The leather turned out to be a much better quality than what Subaru was providing. YMMV.
I would check to see what you would be missing out on by getting the premium versus the limited and decide if you can live without certain features only the limited has. (eg. automatic dual zone climate control, underside cladding......). Money can be saved this way.
Ask to see a sample, a lot of aftermarket leather is really nice, so I wouldn't say no.
Limited does adds more than just leather, though, per cars101.com:
everything the 2.5i Premium has, plus..
new Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission with manual mode (6 'gears') and paddle shifters
Fog Lights Front underguard Leather trimmed interior Passenger power seat (4way), front/back, power recline Wood grain interior trim (2.5i and Premium have brushed silver trim) Climate Control, Single/Dual Front Zone, 6 speed fan, settings Lo - 61, 62 .. 89 - Hi All Weather Pkg: dual mode heated front seats, defrosting outside mirrors, front windshield wiper deicer with hidden element Harman-Kardan stereo; 9 speakers, 6 disc CD changer, speed sensing auto volume control, aux input; bluetooth, dual-zone climate control
We bought our 2 subarus in March of 07 and March of 09 - in both cases, there were $2000 rebates, combined with the low interest financing (1.9% and 2.9%). But there were large subaru inventories then and rebates were more common in general.
Considering how well these are selling, there doesn't appear to be as much need to offer rebates. But historically, March has been the time of year when subaru rebates started.
The main thing is the dual zone climate control. I've had that in the cars I have owned for the past 6 years. I love the convenience of it. But is it worth the $2k jump to get a limited? I don't know....
I hear people around are getting below MSRP. My dealer in Santa Cruz, CA says there is a shortage and I wont get below MSRP for a 2010 2.5i Auto ADB for $25070. Does anyone know a dealer that will sell a california car for less? Is this shortage true for california, or is he just puttin the moves on me?
Comments
I have a '08 Limited (w/ VDC) and 23K and I hoping to sell it for $20,000.

The place to start when negotiating. It takes into account the current dealer incentives and holdbacks that may be in effect.

you can probably get it at this price.. I can buy it at this price from the dealer tin george town texas. check out the internet sale maanger he is the one that im dealing with... im debating on a 3.6 limtied I order with home link mirror no sunroof. for 29,200.00.. which takes 2 months to order..

I would check to see what you would be missing out on by getting the premium versus the limited and decide if you can live without certain features only the limited has. (eg. automatic dual zone climate control, underside cladding......). Money can be saved this way.
Limited does adds more than just leather, though, per cars101.com:
everything the 2.5i Premium has, plus..
new Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission with manual mode (6 'gears') and paddle shifters
Fog Lights
Front underguard
Leather trimmed interior
Passenger power seat (4way), front/back, power recline
Wood grain interior trim (2.5i and Premium have brushed silver trim)
Climate Control, Single/Dual Front Zone, 6 speed fan, settings Lo - 61, 62 .. 89 - Hi
All Weather Pkg: dual mode heated front seats, defrosting outside mirrors, front windshield wiper deicer with hidden element
Harman-Kardan stereo; 9 speakers, 6 disc CD changer, speed sensing auto volume control, aux input; bluetooth, dual-zone climate control
3.6R Limited AT wagon $30,995 $29,024 $28,789 Build & Price
Im ordering one from the dealer for 29,200.00 before tx & lic, I didnt want sunroof or nav.. Just add mirror home link. so it's
Considering how well these are selling, there doesn't appear to be as much need to offer rebates. But historically, March has been the time of year when subaru rebates started.
Bonus - residuals are way up, ALG ranks Forester and Outback #1 in their classes. :shades:
