    My dealer just confirmed that per SOA, the special financing of 3.9% for 63 months, etc, that officially ended November 30th, has been extended until January 4th, 2010.

    Meanwhile, no news on my delivery date. :sick:

    There's more to buying the car than the monetary deal alone. I enjoy the car more if I was treated properly. Feeling jerked around, nickle and dimed and feeling taken advantage of, is no way to begin a long relationship with your new car. I probably would have done the same thing. I can report very positive Subaru purchase experiences at Fitzmall in White Flint MD and Heritage Mile One in Owings Mills, MD.

    As for the deduction being extended into 2010 - if it happens at all, it would only then apply to your 2010 taxes, not retroactive to 2009 tax filing. It would also require Congress to authorize it - the IRS cannot make law. So if you want the tax deduction, you need to find the new car in 2009. Good luck.

    I know it takes Congress to extend the tax deduction, and I think that's what they'll do. I don't care if it's deducted from next year's taxes; it's the same amount, just delayed by a year. But I understand it's not a sure thing.

    Just negotiated a deal with the local dealer for invoice $28,530. Limited Graphite Gray 2.5 CVT and moonroof w/ B0A (mats) E0A (media hub) K0D (homelink/auto-dim) LN4 (Puddle lamps/Splash Guards) plus more. Could have gotten $300 under invoice but that dealer was in Phoenix (2+ hrs away) but that just wasn't worth my time. Inventory isn't all that great here in AZ either. It should be here next week and we are pushing for them to not etch the windows so we can save $275.

    Does anyone know if the 2009 new car tax deduction apply the day you get the actual delivery of the vehicle or when you sign the initial paperwork (i.e $1000 secure deposit) and have to wait 6-8 weeks, which means delivery will be in 2010?
  • seabrook7039seabrook7039 Member Posts: 44
    When you pay for the car (i.e., normally when you take delivery).
  • xwesxxwesx Member Posts: 17,728
    What is this window etching? I have seen this come up a few times now and I am really not sure what it is or why it would be done.... ?

    I found one new 2009 still in stock somewhat near us and see that there's still a $2000 rebate available.
    On the dealer's web site, they are listing the price at $22,833 (don't know if that includes the rebate or not).
    Since this is the last new one I've found in my area (it's about 50 or so miles away), anyone know the best deal to offer for this?
    Thanks!

    We ordered a OB Ltd w Nav the last week of Oct & got word is is built & should be arrive about the 17th of Dec. - Yes despite reading about muddy sound & steering wheel shake, we are getting excited.

    The dealer apparently forgot to order the trailer hitch, but owned up to it right away & will install it for the factory VIP price later.

    The 3.9% financing deal has been renewed - pleasant surprise. Accord to cars101.com, the OB orders were up 141% for Nov. No sign of the marked cooling this highly desired car yet.

    Interestingly we found it much easier to sell our 03 Forester than our O4 Audi A4. This despite the fact that the price was almost the same & the Audi cost about $8K more new. Gotta hand it to Subaru! :shades:

    They mark the VIN on various parts of the vehicle, so it's not as attractive to thieves who could part it out and sell those parts on E-bay.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    I've observed the same thing. Even with a manual transmission, which turns a lot of buyers away, I had no trouble at all privately selling a 98 Forester and an 02 Legacy. Both times I got more than expected, and the Forester actually sold to the first person who test drove it.

    My price may have been too low!

    I am the market for a new car, considering a '10 OB Ltd and '10 XC70 T6. I tried working with Annapolis Subaru & Volvo, owned by the same group. Both experiences were very poor, filled with slick characters and shady behavior. Beware.
  • britgeezerbritgeezer Member Posts: 95
    Test drove the same kind of car T6, loved the appearance inside and out, didn't like the way the T6 drove & went for the much cheaper OB 3.6R limited. You just described the typical car salesman / dealership (but thankfully not them all) when will they learn? Its not the dark ages of information and choice any longer.

    Try another dealership.

    I bought my '09 OB Ltd in July from Stohlman in Tysons Corner VA ... very easy transaction at a very fair price, no hassles.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    If you want no-haggle, no-hassle, try Fitzgerald Subaru in Rockville, MD.

    My dad, sister, brother, and wife have bought cars there. Wifey bought 2, actually.

    Shop fitzmall.com, the prices include freight, add a $99 fee and that's it. Very, very refreshing.

    I kept waiting for "the catch" and it never came.

    2.5i Premium + all weather/MoonRoof packages + some options

    MSRP: $28,077
    Invoice: $26,149

    The price I got: $25,626 + taxes and fees

    Is it good enough to buy?
    Thanks.
  • morin2morin2 Member Posts: 399
    $500 under invoice is a very good price. But its not OTD - lookout for high dealer fees, and the packs in the F&I ofc like extended warranty, maintenance plan, glass etching, paint and fabric protection, alarms - the list is endless.
  • jusgr8tjusgr8t Member Posts: 2
    Closed a deal and took delivery last night on 10 Outback Premium, AWP, Moonroof and CVT. MSRP was $28,077. Bought for invoice $26,149. No dealer adds, no funny business. Just the best car buying experience in my 30 years of car buying. Interestingly, 3 local dealers in NE Ohio, all willing to sell at invoice.....trade made the difference.

    2010 outback 2.5i CVT + rear bumper cover? $22368+TTL. I'm in TX.
  • climateclimate Member Posts: 3
    Is your OTD price $26,149? Or $26,149 plus TTL?
    Thanks.
  • iubus2005iubus2005 Member Posts: 8
    I got $34,719 including TTL for 3.6R Limited with Navigation + moonroof and following accessories:
    puddle lights, rear bumper cover, splash guards

    The price is $32,585, with dealer fee of $149, taxes of $1800, tag fee $164, non taxable fee (what is this?) $20
  • jusgr8tjusgr8t Member Posts: 2
    My price was $26,149 plus ttl and the annoying $250 dealer documentation fee which is capped by Ohio law. Cant really give you a comparative OTD because my trade reduced my tax substantially. Hope that answers it for you.

    Be very grateful you didn't buy a car from those Bird Road Subaru dirtbags! My son's car was brought there for service 6 weeks ago, it is still not done! While it was there it had the wheels stolen off it and was dented they still haven't rectified the problem! Two other cars were broken into and had the wheels stolen off them and their windows were broken 6 weeks later the windows are still covered in plastic(Rain & mold damage) and they have not fixed them either! I just contacted an attorney.. I will have to buy the rims and tires to get it out of that hell hole and sue them for the damage! Each rim costs almost 900 dollars and 220 for each tire! They are the epitome of scoundrels! You are much better off with a Honda I have had no problems with mine I love it!
  • morin2morin2 Member Posts: 399
    Sounds from 1 side to be a slam-dunk small-claims court case. But unfortunately, winning and collecting are 2 very different things. The dealer should have dealt with this quickly and allowing it to fester is a business mistake on his part. All dealers are independent and you can't make generalizations about a marque by the actions of one dealer.

    There are plenty of OEM "new car take-offs" wheels, many including the tires, on ebay for far less than 900 for the whole set (maybe even your very wheels). Tirerack.com also sells wheel and tire packages.

    After 6 weeks, you were right to contact your lawyer. Don't do anything else without discussing it with him first. And Good Luck.
  • godeacsgodeacs Member Posts: 481
    Good God, where is this dealer located? In downtown Detroit, Harlem or what? That's crazy...you have a right to be PO'd...

    Have you gone to your local network's consumer advocates? They love dealing with sleazeballs like that....good luck!

    2010 Outback 2.5i Premium, CVT, All-Weather Package, moonroof, MSRP $28,623, Invoice: $26,668 - offering it to me at $26168+taxes/tags. Is this the best offer I can hope for? Would like to get this done before the end of the year, but have no problem waiting if I can get a better deal.
  • godeacsgodeacs Member Posts: 481
    Go to truecar.com and see what they say. I tried but don't have all your options...what you mentioned only comes to a sticker price of $27485. According to them, anything under invoice by $350 or so is a GREAT price and you've beaten
    that.

    Good luck!

    I bought 2010 outback limited with Power Moonroof Convenience and Protection Group 1B Auto-Dimming Mirror w/Compass Rear Side Compartment Cargo Nets PZEV Emissions Equipment with MSRP for 30888 at 30000 OTD. This is in PA and tax is 7%.

    Bought an 2010 OB about 1 month ago & loving it. I traded a 2004 Forester & yesterday I got in the mail from Subaru $500 worth of vouchers good until 2013 at any Subaru dealership for services or accessories or towards the purchase of a new Subaru. I give them credit for knowing how to take care of loyal customers. Are you paying attention Toyota??
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Sweet! $500!? Wow. :shades:
  • xwesxxwesx Member Posts: 17,728
    Quite so! It took me better than six months to accumulate that via my Mastercard. It is too bad they do not do this based on ownership history, too! ;)

    Can anyone suggest some Subaru dealers in Philly that are:

    Good on the sales side

    Good on the service side

    and if there are ones to stay away from, that info helps too.

    Thanks,
  • googonabikegoogonabike Member Posts: 27
    Actually, they did (need/have to), since it is writing in terms of their guaranteed trade in program.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Ah, so it was the GTP, and they paid for the gap in actual trade value?

    Hey guys, I've been following this forum for quite some time, watching the '10 Outback since it came out. I've had a chance to test drive both the 2.5 and 3.6 engines. Live in Houston, mainly freeway driving, but there are a lot of times when I have to really pick up speed to pass or to merge onto the freeway. I'm just trying to figure out if the 3.6 is worth the extra money. There's definitely a difference in pickup between the two engines. I just feel sometimes the 2.5 engine was a little anemic for such a large car.

    I'm not looking for much in regards to options, maybe the speaker package (non Harmon-Kardon one) and maybe bluetooth and homelink. Wife & I are trying to keep it to $25-27k or less. I would appreciate your input.

    Albert72:

    If you are in Philadelphia, you cannot go wrong with the dealer in Jenkintown, PA. I think this forum has rules against posting the names of dealers, but it starts with G ends with N and is right on route 611 across from the Acme. Mark Glanzmann (dealership name is very similar) sold me three cars and always treated me extremely fairly. The service department is impeccable. Ask for Dan Geist. As I said, I bought three cars there and sent at least ten others buyers over (including my father).

    I moved to Connecticut last year and am embarrassed to say I really miss this dealership.

    The forum allows dealership names and locations, but asks you to not publicly divulge salesperson or contact information. ;)

    We ordered our 2.5 Limited w Nav on Oct 27, were told 6-8 weeks with tentative delivery date of Dec 15. It arrived today (yah!). We will pick up Friday, take for an extended drive & keep overnight, close the deal the next morning assuming no glitches. Then replace the Conti tires with Michelin MXV4s the next week.

    Factory accessories we ordered included (all prices invoice, we used VIP which gave us an additionall 2% off invoice):
    Moonroof & Nav $2,497 (really only wanted BU camera, but went for the Nav as we think it will be a plus at resale & an a good aftermarket back up camera was going to be $1,000 + ).
    Wheel Arch Moldings $332
    Rear Bumper Cover $ 52
    Auto Dim Mirror, Homelink $176
    Puddle lights $ 145
    Rear side nets $ 42
    Trailer hitch $329 (the dealer missed this when he placed the order, will install later at VIP price - though I may consider UHaul hitch).

    I considered getting the rear side nets & bumper cover at a discount dealer & installing them myself, but the savings were not enough to justify the hassle for me.
    Our deal has gone very smoothly accept the dealer was incredibly clueless about Subaru Bucks & have been struggling to educate them about how this are used. I think they finally got it. :P

    Will post on our thoughts after a 1,000 miles.

    We are looking at a 2010 Outback at our local dealer.

    2010 Subaru Outback 2.5i Premium w/All-Weather Pkg/Power Moonroof

    plus:
    * Alloy Wheel Lock Kit
    * Auto-Dimming Mirror w/Compass
    * Rear Bumper Cover
    * Tweeter Kit

    price given from dealer last night was $26,050 OTD + TTL and $214 in doc fee's (I HATE THESE-can you get rid of all together?)

    Thanks!!
  • agnostoagnosto Member Posts: 207
    According to Edmunds inventory is $26,050.00. If $26,050 is the final price that includes TTL, fees, etc., then you are below invoice, if not, then you are at invoice which is an ok but not great deal.
  • jessijohnjessijohn Member Posts: 3
    Like my post stated that was not with TTL OR doc fee's. If $26,050 included that you would be thousands UNDER invoice which is crazy for this car. The best deal I see right now on Truecar.com for this car in my area locally is great at $25,765 ($285 below invoice) and the good deal is 26,272 ($222 above invoice). With this price we would be right inbetween the two, though we still will be shopping more.
  • britgeezerbritgeezer Member Posts: 95
    No dealer will completely remove doc fees, etc - in some states they are controlled. If dealer has a model you want in stock go for it, the tax deduction expires this December 31, the low rate interest a week later. You have to balance further shopping with losing the above. Who knows what incentives will apply in Jan / Feb.
  • fendertweedfendertweed Member Posts: 98
    If you are paying anything in addition to the $26,050, then that is not the price OTD ...

    The OTD price includes:

    Price of car
    + TTL
    + any doc. fees, etc.
    -------------------------------
    = OTD

    So based on the info you gave us, your OTD price = $26,050 + 214 + TTL.

    I bought my new 2010 Outback a month ago from Rafferty Subaru in Newtown Square, PA. The whole experience was fantastic. They gave me the price I wanted (invoice), a $100 over the trade in amount I was set on, met my request to do the ext warranty 6yr 100k mile Gold Plus plan for $1500, and had no hidden fees, gimmicks, etc. They were straight up and honest, the most pleasurable buying experience for a new car I have had to date. You can check my older posts for my other glowing reviews. My advice is to call them first, tell them exactly what you want, and then just go in to sign the paperwork. They are also one of the biggest Subaru dealers in the Philly area and have the most OB's in stock. I can't speak on behalf of their service dept as I have not needed any yet...but as far as the sales experience I highly recommend them! And I love my new Outback. Good Luck :)
  • jessijohnjessijohn Member Posts: 3
    Gottcha.

    So what we ended up paying was $25,500-got them to knock it down almost $550 off invoice. Then add TTL for our OTD price. We were really happy with this price.

    2010 Subaru Outback 2.5i Premium w/All-Weather Pkg/Power Moonroof

    plus:
    * Alloy Wheel Lock Kit
    * Auto-Dimming Mirror w/Compass
    * Rear Bumper Cover
    * Tweeter Kit

    We feel we got a GREAT deal. Dunning Subaru Ann Arbor Michigan. We dealt with Patrick.
