Carmax is showing 2006 V6 at about $100 under invoice.
http://carmax.com/dyn/factsheet/factsheet.aspx
If you do build and price on RAV4 at Toyota main site and use zip 34423 you will see SE region cars in or coming in. 2006 is down to two from almost 900 3 weeks ago. 2007 was 210 a week ago and is down to 88 this AM. By the way, 3rd very hard to find.
Fly to Md and drive your RAV4 home from Fizmall and save $1200 less airfare and gas. You will still be $1000 ahead.
Lots of people have done it here.
Good luck
Granted I had to walk out of the dealership to get the price but in the end I did get my price.
However the dealer tried to tell me the mats and tire cover weren't included in the price (dealers can be such pricks sometimes). Luckly the sticker had the floor mats on there and I simply showed them the car's std features for the tire cover.
We got
DR Roof Rails and Cross Bars
AA Styled Wheels
GY Curtain Air Bags
RL Daytime Running Lights
CF Floor Mats
MF Mudgard
EF Rear Bumper Applique
I didn't see info on the MF and EF
I think we got a good deal but I guess you are never quite sure until it's all said and done.
matt
I got a base 4cyl 4wd, silver metalic, with same options except I got the all weather rubberized floor mats and rear cargo liner, but didn't get the MF or EF.
My price was $22,500.
So I think you're price is pretty good. Wish I would have held out for lower.
I took out the sales person's name. I think it is ok to post the rest of the info here.

I live in monterey.
Thanks.
Rey
Looks like you are a great negotiator. I'm curious to know what you ended up paying in the end. 'Invoice' can mean many different things, depending upon whether they stick you for advertising costs, dealer hold-back etc. I just bought a Base RAV4 V-6 with married options: tonneau, net, tow pkg, base stereo, carpeted mats plus the optional side/curtain air bags for a pre-tax price of $24,300. This was in August on Long Island. Whadda ya think?
Thanks! ">
That makes a lot of sense. I have found that my mileage has been slightly less than quoted by Toyota, by about 2 or 3 mpg for my 2006 V-6. I'm averaging about 25 mpg overall. I'm loving it, though!
Thanks for the reply. Yes,I've checked all of the car websites and I have both the invoice and MSRP prices. I'm coming "armed" to the dealership with the "folder" that contains all of the pricing and research materials. The agreement was $500 over invoice. I will let you and all know how it goes.
Dear Jim -
Please forgive my delay in getting back to you, I have been in a Toyota training event out of state the first half of the week and I am still trying to catch up with e-mails, etc.
A typical Rav-4 Sport 4x4 V6 with the following equipment:
FE - Fifty State Emission Package
EJ - JBL Upgraded Audio System
CD - Cargo Cover
GY - Side Air Bags
RL - Daytime Running Lights
SR - Power Moon Roof
TO - Tow Prep Package
CF - Carpet Floor Mats
will have an MSRP of $28,489 and an Invoice of $26,134. Our Delivered Internet Price would be $26,134 plus tax, tag fees, and processing. If you pay cash and opt to do your own tag and title work, you would pay us $26,153 ($26,134 plus $19 for temp tag and tire tax) and pay the balance of the tag fees and sales tax to the appropriate New York agency, and the processing fee would be waived. The pricing for the 4-cylinder model will be similar to the one that we discussed earlier.
At this time, there are no Flint Mica V6 Rav-4 Sport models available in any dealer's inventory in the five-state Central Atlantic area; they are only a very few in the four-cylinder model. I would be happy to order one for you. A Rav-4 factory order for a standard package can take from two to twelve weeks, with four to six weeks being typical. If I can find a vehicle in the inventory of another dealer, I can usually have it here in a matter of one to two business days. Once we have the vehicle here, we can set up a time to meet at BWI, Dulles, or National airport or at Union Station (Amtrak). You can complete the paperwork, inspect the car, and take delivery at the airport or train station.
Please let me know how you would like to proceed and how I can best be of service to you.
Warm regards,
XXXXXX
Fitzgerald Auto Malls
An example for a RAV4 Sport 4WD 4cyl;
The actual dealer cost is 20,966 but most dealers aren't up front enough to tell you.
Edmunds invoice is 21,680. This consists of the dealer cost(20,966) plus dealer holdback(476) plus wholesale financial reserve(238).
Fitzmall's invoice on this vehicle is Edmunds invoice plus advertising (440) plus gas(10).
Other dealers may throw in a lot of other fees so "invoice" is not a very reliable figure to use when comparing prices.
With the above vehicle, when the options and transportation costs were added in, the MSRP was 25,909 and the Fitzmall invoice was 23,881. In the e-mail I received from Fitzmall, it said their internet price was 23,881, the same as invoice, but their website said the internet price was 24,081 or 200 above invoice. Maybe the website was out of date.
The bottom line is that Fitzmall was offering that vehicle around 2,000 below MSRP. If you found that same vehicle at another dealer, they might tell you that their price is 100 under invoice which sounds better than the Fitzmall price. However, if they have added a lot of things into their invoice, their price could be hundreds more than Fitzmall's price. Soooo, don't get fooled by how much above or below invoice a car is selling for. Check how much below MSRP it is selling for.
In the east it seems you can get a car for close to the Fitzmall price but not beat it. But their price is good enough for me.
It is a shame that the public does not have access to the Toyota "coming in list" on the net as it would save lots of time.
I have found it pays to spend a little time with your dealer. Talk to a mature salesperson who makes sense. Some of them just bop around and act like fools and know little about the details of the cars. Such as "We can get you any RAV4 in two weeks cause they are built in Tenn. now."
Once you find one who seems professional talk with that person and get them to find what you want. Some of them get paid by the number of cars they sell each month so they want to sell. Read up on the prices and options etc before you go. If they see you know your facts a real salesperson will usually get serious real fast.
And if you go to www.fitzmall.com you can get a RAV4 for $200 over invoice most anytime. You will have to accept what the Mid-Atlantic region brings in but they are usually well equipped.
Good luck
Funny twist to the story is that now I am waiting for 2007 Sienna. Yesterday I got a chance to explore Santa Fe in detail, and the car interior is far nicer than RAV4. The difference was as contrasting as Accent and Lexus. Sometime I feel like to get Japan quality and newer engine, I was compromising so much. Now I hate RAV4 interior. On top of that no leather "available".
I have pretty much given up on the idea of ordering leather. There is a Coach Automotive fellow in my small town who does aftermarket leather, including heated seats, for most of the dealers here. His prices are about the same as OEM stuff and he has a lot more color choices. This will also give me the option of trying out the cloth seats and then, if I want to, I can get the leather. Reportedly, the aftermarket leather is thicker and softer than Toyota's. Anyone have any experience with Coach Automotive? I think it is a national franchise.
