Most of the new diversity antenna systems (like those found on the Camry) incorporate a printed antenna on the back window. It has been reported that metallic window tint degrades FM and AM reception. The metallic particals suspended in the film can change the electrical characteristics of the antenna system by changing or shorting out the circuit. In other scenarios, the antenna leads printed onto the glass are cut when a tinter trims the excess inside the vehicle with a razor blade. So in conclusion you might not want that metallic window tint after all.

That very same part can be obtained from a Toyota dealership as an out of warranty product. The part number is 86841-33060-OW... shop around for the best price. The computer comes with a one-year warranty from Toyota.
This deal about not being about to search POIs while moving is lame as well. When the family is driving down the highway and my kids want to know where the closest McDonalds is, I have to stop. Why cant the passenger enter data? There has got to be a work around for this.
One workaround for the POI problem is that you can display icons on the screen for fast food restaurants etc (either by voice -- "Show fast food restaurans" -- or by using the 8 POI categories listed under Map View). Then you can zoom in/out and scroll around to find the closest McD's. Those 8 POI categories available while driving are user-configurable, by the way, in the settings menu.
There is a widely published "override" available, depending on what version of map DVD you have. Do an Edmunds (or google) search on "Nav override." While this is not perfect, it does allow passangers to have full control as you mentioned.
Here is just one sourch for the instructions I quickly found: Override instructions It works on my 2007 Camry.
jbelle, I don't understand your question. Do you have a 2002 Camry with Nav? I didn't realize they made NAV systems in 2002 Camrys.
If you are asking if there is a newer map version than 6.1, I don't think so yet..perhaps late summer 07.
Generaly speaking, there are different generations of NAV systems, and usually Toyota will make updated Map DVDs available for them, but the DVD must be specific for the hardware in your car. As an example, I have a friend who has an 06 Highlandr and an 07 Camry. The 06 Highlander and the 07 camry have different generations of NAV system hardware. A 6.1 DVD from the 07 Camry will not work in the 06 Highlander, but there is an updated v6.1 map DVD available for the either system, they have different part numbers.
Simple 1,2,3 steps to program my places, etc.?? :confuse:
Do you remember which post?? I read them all twice...and nothing......I found a guy on line that sells a software for older model vehicles......I even got instructions for getting into a dealer service menu but it was for another year or it was BS.......it didn't work.....ahhhhhhhhhhh
Oh well, our days are numbered anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The car interior looks much better with Nav. Overall the NAV is accurate but somehow annoying. It keeps saying the route guidance when I am using it. Sometimes I just suspend it until we approach to the destination.
The NAVIGATION SYSTEM Instructions Are the worst thing I have ever recived from Toyota. The car is great like all the other 13 Toyota cars before it, If toyota starts making it cars like the NAV.SYSTEM Instructions. We Toyota customers are in trouble. Loyal Toyota customer. Ellwood Decker
Note* - 2002 Camry requires a GEN2/3 DVD map disc. The correct part number is 86271-3303X. The higher the last digit (X) the newer the disc.
Also, does anyone know a reference that has all of the available voice commands for nav/audio/bluetooth/etc?
Thanks!
Press the 'MENU' panel button.
Touch 'SETUP'
Scroll down to page 2/3.
Touch 'OFF' for Voice Recognition Guidance.
Touch 'OK' at the bottom right.
Once you have followed these steps no more voice prompts for state, city, street or house number when inputting an address via voice recognition.... just a beep.
