I will stay away from the car lots......unless I'm visiting one of my friends.
I happen to like my purple Explorer and I want a new house, so no new cars for me......can't live in the car.
None of my biz, I don't want to know, but good luck staying comitted to a relationship and a vehicle.

Thanks
What would the trade in values be on this vehicle so I can get an idea of what a dealer's floor would be. It seems that the auction prices dealers go by in their "little black book" are generally well below NADA and KBB.
With the new models coming out in Sept/Oct when will this be reflected in the prices of used models?
Also, what would typical price differential be if I went with a certified vehicle?
Thanks for the help.
God bless you, and my best wishes.
Cars....yes, I get fed up with the one I have pretty quickly......probably why over the years I had more negative equity than equity.
I have to learn to live with the Explorer no matter what it does......I want a house. If I sell the Explorer I'll be relegated to old Ford Escorts......so sayeth my hubby. Thankfully I like my Explorer.
Your situation, you have an average condition S-10. It is too small as an extended cab to be really considered by someone wanting a work truck that can haul 4 people. Fine for daily transportation, but the manual tranny limits the dealers selling prospects to about 25% of the population looking for a truck.
Great vehicle for retail road. Get a super detail done on the truck, deep in rubber, make sure it has all maintenance up to date with receipts. There are people looking for a good $5000 extended cab truck for a weekend vehicle. Something capable of towing a small boat to the lake with some kind of seats for the kids. The V6 will help on the light duty towing aspect. I would start by checking the asking price from the dealer in your area and go a few hundred dollars below the lowest for the closest comparable price, then negotiate down from there.
Trade side, the dealer might be a little low if it is deep in rubber, super clean, all maintenance up to date, etc. Maybe $3200 on the lower end of the trade.
Almost sounds like a Bob 'Roaring Lion' dealership type of trade estimate. Those who live in Indiana or some Chicago burbs will know who I'm talking about.
I wish you well, sincerely .. It's not easy, so God bless ..
remember one thing ....
Stay away from the car lots ..!
Terry ;-)
Trade side, the high $7's, low $8's - if it needs stuff, start deducting .. right now, is "thee" best time to be trading a van.
Good luck and let me know ...
Terry.
The no-sale colors are those Camry drk greens, the non- metallic dark dark blues .. it's not that these don't sell, it's that they have been used for a long time by everybody, and folks are so tired of looking at em' and there is big quantities of them .. they are the 2nd or even the 3rd/4th choice for the vast amount of the buying customers, alot of times these colors get a "pass" nowadays .. those misty pale greens, like on the I30 and such are hoo-hum and they get a pass ..
Down south, the silver, white, beige, light grays, light blues, just light in general get the nod, the farther south you get, the lighter the colors - trying to sell a dark Benz in Austin or a black BMW in Atlanta can be the kiss of death, can be as much as a $2,000+ deduct depending on the vehicle .. thats why when you visit Florida most of the dark vehicles are in the showrooms and not soaking up the heat .. reds do well most of the time everywhere, particularly do well up north in the early spring thru the late fall, winter time they get kinda cold, just like the population .l.o.l..
The new "vibrant" colors, yellows, pearl greens, bombshell blues, whatevers, "seem" to be doing ok right now, what they will be doing on trade in 9/20 months might be a different story, this is not the first time the market has done a color change .. purples, oh don't ask, so don't buy it.
Mpp - good job ..
Terry
Depending on the dealer you should be seeing the ulta high $17's, low low $18's - could see $18,5 if it's puuuurfect, glows in the dark, yatty yatty yatty .. $19,0 ..? I dunno, $18,5 would flat kill it ..
Let me know ...
Terry.
Off to your room .. then I will stick you in the middle of the driving range, your chances are 50/50 there ..
Terry
Cheers, Scott.
93 Accord SE - green -loaded - 99k miles - auto -all options - clean
99 Passat GLX - silver - loaded - V6 auto - 55k miles - clean (likely trade for new MDX)
And btw, how are the '03 MDXs (all options) with ~3Kmiles doing at auction/trade?
Thanks.
I'm staying away from car lots, sheesh.......although I do have to go job hunting once we move.......
Thanks again in advance.
but remember, keep her out of the car lot's .l.o.l..
Terry.
Gheez, half the day is over ..! -- in reality, your chances would be 90/10 in your favor, so you wouldn't have to dodge much ...
Terry.
I would like to have an idea of how much should I expect to get from a dealer. Can you please give an estimate?
He will most certainly keep me out of car lots, the Explorer is in his name, so I can't do anything with it. (hmmmm, how the heck did that happen??)
Trade side, the ultra high $17's, maybe "could" see $18ish in New Hamshhee', IF, it's drop dead perfect and needs -0- ...
Terry.
I dunno, How did that happen ...?
Terry.
Edmunds(Clean) puts trade-in @$6364 and PP@ $7472
KBB(EX) puts trade-in @$4925 and PP@ $6400
NADA has Trade-in $5825 and RETAIL@ $7250 and I'm assuming PP for NADA is the average between TI and RE which is about the same as KBB value.
So, why does Edmunds not agree with the others and why on the high side in this case?
Any info or perspective you can provide would be appreciated.
******
There is no particular rhyme or reason why Edmunds is off on one, then KBB get's accurate on another, then NADA might be more accurate on another ..
It's a HUGE market, 15/20+ million a year, some vehicles get hot for 3 months, some get cold for 6 months, some get over produced, colors get sour, some get dropped at auctions in vast quantities at certain times of the year, some are cold before they hit the market .l.o.l..
I check on all three a number of times during the week, there is no "current" winner as far as, which one is more accurate percentage wise, sometimes it's KBB, other times it's Edmunds and NADA is more accurate in what a vehicle will *Loan, but that's Not what it's actually *worth ..
Kinda remember, they are a guide, they can give you a ballpark, a general idea, a zipcode .. if you feel they are the "Bible", see if they will cut you a Reader for your vehicle, if not, then they are only a general info source ..
In this case, it's a Anniv Ed (not a biggie, made Kazillions of them), miles are low for the year, if it's clean, looks and feels 00, no hit's, auto, new sneakers, no re-paints, no turkey shoot-outs in the back seats, service is 110% -- trade side, it's worth in and around the mid to high $4's, the miles save this one .. down Retail Rd, $7,499 in the paper and the first "real deal" buyer with "El Casho" takes it home for $6,0/$7,0 ..
In this particular case, it looks like a split decision ~ KBB is a little more accurate on the trade and Edmunds is a little more accurate on the retail "asking" price ..
Good luck and let me know ...
Terry.
As in fifty thousand ..? as in one more dollar than $49,999 ... ??
Thats a wonderful price ... if you have been living in Guam with a loin cloth for the last 10 years without a TV, radio, ship to shore, CB, cell phone, Sat nav or any human contact ..
$50,000 ....? there not that much brand new ..! .. there only doing the $36ish figure at the Seattle auctions loaded up with the slider, with miles in the 7/9kish area ..
So let's figure $39,0 by the time they get em' home, service, cpo, a this a that, a new Piaget for the ol' lady, so let's use $42,0 .. you should be able to trade your vehicle and $38,0 plus the TTL, if - yours is nice, 4x4, clean, but needs all that stuff ...
let me know ...
Terry.
Thanks for the info you gave me on the rsx-s. You were dead on -- $17k in trade for my new 325i.
I appreciate the help!!
1989 Mercedes 300 SE, diamond blue with grey leather, 170K, 2nd owner, maintained by the book, every record from day one, looks and drives like 40K, simply immaculate mechanically and cosmetically, bone stock down to the original radio, ABS, airbag, memory seats, power everything, etc, cold air, good Michelin MXV4s everything works like new, even the specialist I had check it out at purchase was very impressed. Seattle area.
Miles aren't too bad for the year, we have a few lumps and bumps, but as a whole, probably not a bad little ecab truck .. if we got cold air, deep rubber, paint is not all faded, bed doesn't look like a Sunne terrorist camp, runs strong and looks 00, then trade side the low $3's, *maybe the high $3's, if it's a "baby doll", so I agree with Dkuhajda .. the handshaker will hold it back, but a truck like this in Florida will sell quick -
If you have a great detail, service is fine and a great 5 liner Ad in the big paper in your area .. down Retail Rd, $5,900 "asking" and the first Cash o' matic takes it off to the Keys for $4,9/$5,500 ..
May the Force be with you ...
Terry
Trade side, in and around the mid to high $3's .. now, down Retail Rd is a whole different story, in your area I would think that dude could still could ring the bell at $7 large+ ..
Terry.
Terry.
It does seem that KBB is the 'default standard' for pricing no matter how accurate it may be simply because it is the best know out there.
Sounds like my current asking price of $7400 is not out of line. I've been doing online postings and word of mouth promotion for the past few weeks in the hope I could avoid the hassle and expense associated with a newspaper ad, but that is my next step.
The good news is I don't need to rush to sell since I got loan at my CU with a good rate and no interest/no payments for 90 days. I won't be 'out of pocket' on my new car until Halloween.
93 Accord SE - green -loaded - 99k miles - auto -all options - clean

I'm looking to buy used Passat, maybe a 2000 GLS automatic with about 45000 mi. Edmunds says such a vehicle has a retail dealer TMV of
$16,000 for outstanding condition
$15,400 for clean condition
$14,000 for average condition
$12,500 for rough condition
also,
KBB retail: $16,200
NADA trade-in: $13,500
NADA retail: $16,000
Looking online, I'm seeing several similar cars from Boston area dealers going for just under $12,000 - one is a GLS with leather heated seats. Should I assume there is something grossly wrong with these vehicles, or is there something wacky going on with Boston area used Passat prices?
Thanks for your help!
KBB suggests $4000. How realistic is this?
You could very likely get more trading in on a new Saturn as Saturn dealers many times over allow on prior Saturn cars to 'keep you in the family' Not to mention the fact that they still try the no haggle pricing which means they keep extra profit included on the selling cars price.
Good point ~ Excursions, Navigators, Escalades, etc, etc.com
Terry.
You gotta read all the stuff that gets printed on these posts .. in this "Particular case", yes .. but, their accuracy is not so on many other different models, a good example is BMW 740iL's, right now they print they are worth $35,0 for a 01, you can't touch one in the country (a clean low miler) for less than $39,0 - so they can be off, waaay off ..
Terry.
03 MDX's with Nav and all the junk are doing the $36/$37 range with miles in the 3/5k range .. not much mercy on these ..
Terry.
yeah and on the MDXs, no mercy is the right phrase...unreal how strong these puppies still are...
