Welcome to the dwindling group of Taurus/Sable posters, however!
on my 91 sable with abs the brake pedal comes up a little harder then normal when coming to a stop at low speed only the last 25 feet. it just started doing it.
If the Sable is like my Taurus, and I believe it is in this area, the front "mud guard" is an extension of the black plastic rocker panel cover that covers up the steel reinforcing "bar" under both front an rear doors. It seems to do an adequate job as a small mud guard.
Behind the rear wheel wells the plastic bumper cover extends all the way to the back of the wheel wells, and I mounted simple aftermarket mud guards in that location, mostly to keep the area behind clean.
All aspects of braking performance will be immediately and greatly improved by installing Brembo brake rotors. And the Taurus needs improvement in the braking department. I consider my Taurus to be a Ford "Volvo" now that it has the superior braking performance of the Brembo brake rotors along with great crash test scores and large, comfortable seats. Bought Brembo rotors at autobarn dot com.
This generation Ford Taurus has a sophisticated system for sensing and deploying the air bags and I list from the advertising blurb:
Dual Stage front Airbags
Front Crash Severity Sensors
Driver's Seat Position Sensor
Safety Belt Useage Sensors
Front Safety Belt Pretensioners
Front Safety Belt Energy Management Retractors.
Altogether, it may mean that the system sensed that the passenger side required deployment and the drivers side did not.
As far as "rupturing" goes, airbags are not like a balloon. Once deployed and inflated at explosive speed, they are designed to rapidly deflate, so may look ruptured but worked just as designed.
Re the exhaust: Just insert a Cherry Bomb in place of the factory muffler and keep the rest of the system stock?
Thanks
versus the 5.5 that Edmunds gave the car. I am waiting to
to post my own evaluation until I have owned it for about three months.
the fuse blows only when the brakes and turn signal are on together;
the owner's manual says the brake lights and signal are on the same fuse but they don't seem to be because the brake lights work fine (the manual says it's fuse 1 but fuse 5 is the one that shorts);
the mechanic checked the bulbs and spent a couple of hours looking for the short in the steering column, with no luck.
Any ideas before I take it to the really expensive electric system specialist?
the Mercury it was on the basis of Edmunds owners reviews at Edmunds which rated the car 9.2. Thanks owners, I put much more importance on what an owner says than some of the rating agencies. If the Ford Motor can continue to offer this kind of value in its cars it may well have a bright future. To be fair about it the one feature I do miss in the Mercury is the onstar system which is a wonderful safety feature in many of the GM cars and in all
the Cadillac models.
start the car than turn on your A/C to max. look at your pully to the compressor. the pully should turn than you have your compressor that should also be turning. if it is than you need a charge.
If the compressor is not turning than you nees to go a voltage meter (wallmart $9), w/ the car on but the compressor off find the connection to the compressor. once you locate the remote wire than turn on the compressor and check if you are getting a reading than you know its the compressor, if no reading or a weak reading than check your connections, GROUND, and relays
crutchfield is very good when it comes to finding the right sterio for your car, but if your taurus is like my 99 taurus, it has the round faceplate in the center of the dash.... there's no cd player or tape deck that can fit, unless you order the faceplate and tape deck from ford directly... (I battled this one for two years.....) you can't get a cd player put in your car, at least not in the cabin. The 99 taurus's have a built in adapter and brackets for the 5 or 6 disk changer in the trunk, right below the back window. it's basicly, plug and play. if your faceplate in the dash has the 'disc' buttons, then once you install it (a few screws and one big plug) you're good to go. if your faceplate doesn't have those buttons, you can order a new faceplate and tape deck from ford, and have your local body shop or mechanic install it for you. there's a special tool they will need to take the plate off, don't try it yourself or you'll break it without it. Oh, and don't waste your money on a 300 or 400 dollar changer, they're all the same unless you have new speakers put in.
I noticed the newer Tauruses lost the puddle lamps, glove box light, dark tint band at the top of the windshield, and changed to black plastic interior door handles. What else?
Is there any other decontenting that is not visible? For instance did they reduce sound insulation, bumper quality, seat cushion quality or make any other hidden changes?
Did they actually improve anything?
If you upgrade from SE to LX on the 2006, do you get any of those lost features back?
So I bid on one on e-bay and won a rebuilt one for 100.00! Whoopie! As I begin to remove the old one it seems to me that it may be easiest to remove the motor with the tranny. Can anyone confirm this? I was going to try removing just the transmission but I on't think I could drop it without removing the subframe.
Thanks John
Not a new vehicle, but the Five Hundred named will be scrapped and the vehicle will be rebadged as a Taurus.
