Re: Chronic Car Buyers Anonymous
You never know. A number of years back after I started using Amazon for regular purchases, their Canadian operation offered an Amazon Visa CC, run by Chase. I didn’t have a Visa card at the time so I got it. You got 2% back and no annual fee, but generally I just used it as the default for my Amazon purchases. After a few years, Chase announced they were terminating their CC business here (they may have been shutting down their entire Canadian operation, not sure) so I used it until they ended it, paid off my balance after the last statement, and forgot about it.Even if Nissan goes out of business, I’m sure NMAC will still have a few employees laying around to collect payments.
Many months or perhaps a year or more after that, I got word that Chase was forgiving all customers of their Canadian Visa card operation for any unpaid balance owing. What?!? Almost made me wish I too was a deadbeat.

I stopped by a Nissan dealer this evening on my way home to check out the Sentra. Immediately I’m greeted by a green pea who asks if I have an appointment or if I have spoken with anyone at the dealership. When I say no, he asks what he can help me with.
I introduce myself and he asks me for a copy of my license so he can scan it into their system. That’s a hard no. I dictate to him my name, address, and cell phone number.
I tell him I’m interested in leasing a Sentra SV with climate package. He leads me towards a fully loaded SR model. The interior was very nicely appointed, but had bigger wheels with smaller sidewalls than I’d prefer. It also had a $29K sticker price which is a lot more than I’m willing to spend on something not manufactured by Toyota.
The front had a surprising amount of leg room. I moved the seat pretty far forward to get comfortable. I sat in the back after adjusting the seat for my 5’ 10” frame and there was a nice amount of legroom. Headroom in the back is tight. I couldn’t sit up straight without touching the headliner. Maybe I’m not used to a regular car, but I swear this thing was as low as my Prelude.
He asks me if I’d like to check out an SV on the lot. Asks if I have a particular color in mind. I tell him it doesn’t matter at this point, just grab something that is accessible.
He grabs the keys to an SV. Tells me he wants to introduce me to the finance manager after the test drive so he can explain the options to me. I said to him; “ Let me guess? Firm handshake? Big smile? Nice suit?”
Asks to take a copy of my license which I say sure, just shred it afterwards. He fires up the car, pulls it out and then sees there is a CRV blocking its path. He tells me to get comfortable and he’ll have the CrV moved and be right back. I waited a solid 5-6 minutes, got out of the car and told him I can’t wait any longer. I asked for his card, he said he doesn’t have one , but asks me to put his cell number in my phone.

Summertime never comes! He’s in Alaska!

Gosh. All this talk about snow and ice reminded me of this montage I put together from a few weeks ago (apologies if I shared it already, though I don't think so!).————————————————https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGMt3eG93bg

I went out last night to move the latest 1/4-1/2 inch of slushy snow so it would not freeze. Then this morning back out to clear snow drifts, while trying not to slip on the base layer of (thankfully somewhat bumpy) ice. The road that leads to our actual driveway (a private shared road for 4 houses that the town does not take care of so does not have the salt treatment) is pretty much all ice too but nothing i can do about that.————————————————
once I had the snow off I threw down the rest of the 5 gallon bucket of rock salt (probably 25+ pounds) over the whole driveway. Hopefully that gives some traction until it finally warms up or gets sunny enough to clear it off. Based on the weather forecast, that might be next Sunday.
but hey, who doesn't want to be outside shoveling a icy driveway when it is in the mid-teens with winds kicking up to 30+ with snow blowing sideways at you? Not new snow, just blowing off the lawn. Living the dream, baby!
I promise not to complain in the summer if my grass survives this mess and I have to go out 2x a week to mow it! At least for the first couple of times.
How much of a tax break do you get for not being a real citizen?

I’d move and let the next guy figure out how to get the street plowed.

This was all self inflicted torture!! You could still be living in beautiful south Jersey 😜😜😜

Re: Edmunds Members - Cars and Conversations
got ambitious and finished my taxes today. Hopefully someone is left in the office to send me my refund. I give it about 50/50 odds that shows up anywhere near the normal timeframe. But another sign I am getting old, I had questions pop up for the first time questioning if I am getting SS yet since I am now old enough. Almost wish I was doing that instead of working.————————————————
I get pop-ups too every now and then when I push the envelope, like - “this deduction is not typical for your income. Do you want to proceed with this deduction”? I wish the tax program was interactive so I could ask, “what are my chances of getting away with it?”
Now that would be an upgrade program worth paying extra for rather than just leaving you hanging with a question.

Came out OK for a geezer. But I am over this winter nonsense. I chatted with the plow guy that does our road and driveways and even he said he is tired of it, and would rather not have to be doing it.

Re: Edmunds Members - Cars and Conversations
I was catching up on posts over the past several weeks and noticed mention of WHITE CASTLE. That brings back fond memories of the White Castle at the corner of Queens Boulevard and 43rd Street in Sunnyside, Long Island, that was our favorite fast food stop over - especially when coming home from a very late date in the wee hours of the morning - we would stop in to pick up a "sack" of their hamburgers which were about 12 cents each at the time of my earliest memories. There is absolutely no better tasting hamburger with onions and fats on the face of the earth. I prefer their cheeseburgers. I think that's what caused my heart arteries to clog and cause me misery over the past 8-10 months after the open heart surgery I went through.@corvette 3 jalapeno cheeseburgers and a sack of fries..The White Castle you referenced holds a particular memory. The (then) wife had polished off a bottle of red wine at a friend's house. We were on our way home and she decided she wanted some White Castle. Don't know why, as there were hors d'oeuvres she had been gobbling on all night at the party.
They have amazing old-fashioned crinkle cut fries. They used to have a drive-thru only location about a mile from me, but it closed up. Now, it's about 2.5 miles to the Newport location.
I don't partake much, any more, but I'm pretty sure my lifetime number is well over 1000 burgers..
Anyway, I'm nothing if not a person who wants to make my significant other happy. Went through the drive thru. She tore into them after I handed her the sack. We had barely hit I-75N when, you guessed it, the heaving started.
Spent a good portion of the early a.m. hours cleaning up that mess, heaving myself from the smell.
Good times!!!!
There was a group of us guys and gals (about 30 of us) and we would do everything together including volunteering at the retirement home for Vets and to participate in giving back to our community. But one thing we truly all looked forward to was after out Saturday night parties at one house or another, we would all, en masse, siege the White Castle and pick up about 100 or so cheeseburgers and beer and or Cokes, and take them back to the party. The amountt of meat in the sandwich was negligible as was the amount of cheese, but that taste, especially at 2:00 AM in the morning, was exquisite.
Down here in south Florida, we do not have any White Castle Hamburger restaurants, but most super markets, BJ's, Walmart, etc., sell frozen White Castle's in small, medium and large boxes. The taste of the cheeseburgers leaves much to be desired when comparing them to what I remember as fresh, but at least I have managed to microwave them properly on medium heat for a bit longer time rather than high for a shorter time. These cheeseburgers run about a dollar a piece - quite a difference from 65 years ago.
But, White Castle sure brings back some great memories!!!
