Re: Edmunds Members - Cars and Conversations
Patience and measuring have paid off. To refresh everyone’s memory, some of the elements on my 15 year old GE 30” slide in range stopped working. Getting the elements replaced was cost prohibitive given the age of the range. I have a space of exactly 29 3/4” between 2 pieces of granite to fit a new 30” range that are anywhere from 29 3/4” to 30” wide. Out with the GE. In with the Whirlpool which now matches the microwave. Lowe’s made things easy. Walked into the store at about 5:30 pm on Friday, physically measured with the appliance guy there, walked out of the store at 5:55 pm, & they showed up with it here at 8:30 this morning.

Re: Chronic Car Buyers Anonymous

My appointment to have a back ordered battery for the SOS emergency system ended up more involved than I anticipated. I shared with the advisor that I complained on the test drive and subsequent service visits that the car vibrated over 60, and the front suspension made noises, especially when the temperature was below 60. I was told the vibration was tire related and they could not duplicate the suspension noise. I had the tires replaced, road force balanced, some reduction of the vibration but still there. They found the left driveshaft to be defective and the sway bar needed to be replaced. I didn’t expect the rear brakes needing to be replaced, but new pads and rotors needed at 43k. Front pads are still thick and in good order. I had a $50 deductible for the CPO work, and the advisor reduced the bill by $100 without me asking. I appreciated that. $722 out the door. All seems fine and it drives great.

My beloves 2014 Malibu with only 65K miles got driver door dented because an older woman driver changed into my lane without waiting for traffic to be open. Then she tried to blame me because I should have seen her turn signal. I was busy following two others who had changed lanes safely in front of me to get around what I later saw was a stalled car.Don’t write the attorneys off so fast. Ask yourself, after the accident did you have to give up your dream of becoming an acrobat? You deserve compensation for having your real or imagined dreams shattered.
Luckily the locations of the mild impact didn't match.
And the traffic camera showed what she did. LOL
Now I'm getting spam calls and texts from all the attorneys wanting to "help" me, on both cell and landline. I didn't realize the ambulance chasers started work before 8 am.
I've been driving Malibu waiting to work on my rear brake on Cruze. Why couldn't someone hit my Cruze and I can get a Venza or a Mercedes to replace it?

While the Arteon is being worked on, more on that later, I was provided a 26 Tiguan SE.

I just spent more on vacation plans than a few of my cars are worth. We bit the bullet and booked 2 weeks in Japan for June. Family has been talking of going there for years. It always seemed unattainable. But, long story short, I accidentally discovered that Travelocity has a weird “glitch” where a package of flight and hotel is about the same price as flight by itself. Are the airlines paying for the stay? I don’t get it, frankly, but we took advantage of it. Could have done the same time in Kenya for the same price. That is tops of my bucket list, but I was outvoted.——————————————————-
Kenya? What do you plan to do there, be a snack for a lion, run over by an elephant or what?jmonroe
Seems like getting squashed THEN eaten is feasible.

Re: Edmunds Members - Cars and Conversations
When my kids were younger, my Mom came up once a week and so did my mother-in law. Besides being a huge help with my wife being able to return to work, my kids have a great relationship with their grandmothers. My Mother-In-Law continues to come up every week. She spends time with my daughter, takes her to ice skating lessons, and out to lunch.I'm so happy that my mother is such a part my kid's lives. She is the only grandparent they have and she makes the most of it.I also think it is amazing that you and your wife will be taking such an active role in your grandchildren's lives. If you so wish and desire to, I hope that you'll be able to take some time to yourselves to travel as well.I wish we had done more of them along the way instead of saving them for retirement or close to it. End up with a window where you still have the physical ability to do a lot of walking (and deal with long flights). After the kids graduate college is a good time for it!
She took them to our place at the shore yesterday to meet up with some family/kids there until tomorrow. It was a nice change of pace for them and also gave my wife and I a little down time.
As many of you may or may not know (or remember), my brother-in-law suddenly died 8+ years ago leaving my sister who was 36 at the time a widow and single Mom to her two daughters who were 5 & 7 at the time. She tried to stay in the house which was her husband's childhood home, but even with no mortgage taking car of a house was overwhelming. My parents who live in town over in the same school district offered my sister and her girls to come and live with them. It was an incredible grand gesture for so many reasons. My nieces have an incredible relationship with both my parents.
Re: Edmunds Members - Cars and Conversations
We love helping out with the baby. My wife agreed to sit one day per week. And her other grandpa does another day. So she gets 2 at daycare. And one home with mom. Works out nicely for everyone. If we need to go away and miss a Friday they can work out something to cover it. My wife has no interest though in doing it full time and being tied down to it.
I go along in fridays so I get my “Lucy time” too and it lets my wife keep up with work issues. Soon to become a distant memory though.
Even more fun now that our daughter has her new house 20 minutes from us. We expect more grandkids over the coming years.
