now I want coilovers! Yup those are AGXs on mine, stock springs. Juice is right...a LOT more control, very sweet damping. I am a happy camper. That's a lot less lean than the pic I posted back in July, don't forget.
YEEESSSS, those are pointer cones, thanks a lot!!
Juice_ Bugbomb ran 62.5, my FTD was 66.5. He now has borla headers, CAI, hi flow cat and exhaust. Still, I need to be smoother. FTD for the day was 58 from an SM Z06
That front shot is a fast but tight sweeper, looks like I just came off the gas there.
I uprated the sway bar too, juice, to 18mm. Might be time to go 20-24mm in back and get a little beefier in front. I don't know if I want to get into springs because I am on the road all day and Baltimore streets are, um, well.....
The car felt really good. Bugbomb was very impressed during a ride-with. He didn't think the car was going to make it in several spots, and said my worn KDw tires gripped better than his new Kumhos. He then went and beat me by 4 seconds, so I still have some learning to do. :-o
I think keeping up with these RS guys is do-able, but with another 500lbs or so I have little room for error.
I pulled out a top 5-finish among the subies at the NASA event on Sunday. Considering it was a fast course (good for WRXs) and I was driving an RS 5MT, I'm happy. Also since it was day #2 of driving a 5MT I think I did great. Didn't really feel comfy with the 5speed yet but that will come with practice. Also had never driven a 2.5RS before.
Does Bugbomb have the lightened flywheel, too? He was working on that. Plus he's got that nice clutch, and a weight advantage. I'd say you hung in there pretty well considering you had a passenger.
I wouldn't touch the springs on a daily driver in Baltimore. Or in DC for that matter.
mike: you gonna fix the auto XT6? Is insurance gonna cover it, or will it be out of your pocket?
Insurance? No collisionon it since it's only booked at about $1500. It is now 90% sure that the rusted sub-frame was the weakest link and thus not worth fixing. This saturday I'm having an "install fest" at my place to move the non-air suspension over to the XT6 MT as well as the power antenna, and fix/replace the PS pump. I'm gonna either part out the grey one or sell it whole or keep it as a parts car.
But at least I have a backup. Even rally racers have backups I am trying to sell it whole for around $1500 since it probably isn't a real hard fix for someone who has the right equipment and knows what they are doing. Then I can put the $ into the red one. I ordered a clutch for it from Primative yesterday $377 delivered for 6-puck Copper, upgraded pressure plate pilot and throwout bearings and clutch alignment tool.
Paul found a supplier with them cheaper than he thought so it came out like $60 less than anticipated. The clutch on mine is slipping pretty badly over 3500 RPMs so I'm taking it easy on it til I get the new one in. Hopefully I'll net enough $ from the XT6 AT to buy the trailer I want for the XT6 MT.
Stephen: Looks like you're going to be mowing the lawn sooner than me, too! Planning the snow tire change over extravaganza at my house tomorrow or Tuesday. Glad you got to sample some of our snow!
I was thinking of you "Eastsiders of Mountains" as we were getting the snow. I didn't care to much for it so late in the season because I had already put the Toyo summer tires on. They actually did fine in the wet snow and not much accumulation. :-) Have fun w/the changover hoo-ha. Mine are wrapped in plastic in the basement.
Pat: Our studded tires have to be off here by April 1st. First time in a long time I've had to wait until the last week in March because of the weather.
Stephen: Which Toyos do you run? Mine are wrapped in plastic in the shed - til tomorrow! - I do all the changeovers in the family at the same time... 4 cars worth! Come over & help if you want - har de har har!
Just got new Toyo TS-1s in 225/45x17" size to go with the new Gram Lite wheels, 17" w/7.5" width, about 16.2 lbs each. I really like the Toyos. They aren't as noisy as I thought they might be. They are certainly quieter and smoother than the 16" Dunlop Wintersports I have on the stock WRX rims. The 17" Toyos do follow road grooves more and cause heavier steering (this I like though). All and all, I wouldn't trade them. I was looking at Bridgestone S03s but the Toyos were $10 a tire cheaper and have a longer wear rating (for what it's worth...).
Stephen: A bit more exotic than mine (mere Spectrums) on AR wheels - but mine are also much quieter than the Michelins I replaced. The wheels are just a bit wider than stock... push the tires out just to the limit under the fenders. The handling & ride comfort both improved. Both tires & wheels were on sale at Schwab's, which had a lot to do with the choice, reality being what it is
Seeing as this is the photo gallery thread, I guess I need to beg/borrow/steal a camera just long enough to get a digipic or two of the car & get 'em on here! Not until it's washed!
Unfortunately, I can see all the little rock chips when I clean/polish the hood and front bumper. I've got to set up an appt to get the Stongard treatment applied while I still have a decent paint job in these areas! :-)
kens....wow nice weather...you need to get a flop top soon. Sadly/or not, winter will not let go here in the "snow belt" of WNY. We are still skiing and the weather is far more like winter than spring. We continue to get snows and although I like the snow.....I am definitely ready for some golf weather. I have two sons that live in the bay area and know that you are having a really nice spring. I just hope your sunshine and lack of rain will not result in a water hardship. Anyway ...enjoy the warmth.....borrow a convertible and cruise the canyons....
Had to get up early to get that second shot with the warm lighting. I get out my Miata this weekend and let me tell you, it's going to be a dilemma every time I have to decide which car to take!

Heck, if the weather stays like this I'll have to finish painting the house sooner than I planned.

They are forecasting snow or snow and rain until at least Thursday.
I keep saying if this is God,s idea of a joke I am not impressed.
