I wanted to share my deal with others that may be thinking of doing a TL NAVI lease:
I must tell you as mentioned here again and again. SHOP AS MANY dealers as you can. Its to your benefit.
I just signed a 42 month lease 2005 NAVI TL with a .000230 money factor for good credit consumers through Honda or if not so good you get .000240. Residual is best at 42 months right now. Residual on 42 months is 53% vs on a 48 mo lease its 46%. This is also 12,000 miles a year. Ist Month payment/tax/title money down. My payment is $490 Total including tax. This is getting the NAVI just above invoice. I think mine was $32,700. I believe invoice is 32,164 plus $550 destination so 32,714. I could have done slightly better but the color combos on 2005's are going going gone. Its 2006 models now and my dealer told me not much discounts on 06's until late Nov/Dec when sales slow for the holiday season. He mentioned Acura sent out memo stating that they are having record sales of the TL and be cautious on dealers discounting the 2006 models. As always SHOP around. I had 3 dealers tell me NO WAY to get a lease payment under $550 for a NAVI with no cap cost reduction. They were quoting me $510-$525 with NO NAVI. I feel good about my deal. Better yet the car ROCKS!
I just went in to BR to look around a couple of days ago. I guess they can be like that, they seem to be selling cars. I've been by on a coupleof Sundays and it seems supply is dwindling fast, especially for navi-equipped cars like I have been shopping. I did get a slight sense of arrogance upon entering. It may be worth your while to go to Metarie to try to work a deal. I don't see how THAT many people can be concerned with buying new acuras in NO right now. They might not be answering your e-mails because they physically can't considering the comm. situation right now. I don't like dealing w car dealers and I may go the low mileage used route. I would LIKE to have a new acura but I don't NEED one. It's stuff like the mud flaps and wheel locks that chaps my hide. If it came as part of the car it would be ON THE STICKER. It seems houston may also be a good route, at least there is competition there.
Looking at 05 TL/Nav have dealt with two dealerships over the internet and finally went to one-both in Dallas. Goodson Acura offered $500 above invoice in July- I passes as I was not ready to buy then. In first week of september, offered $400 below invoice-but still not ready.
Macchurchill- no internet quote given, but said they would beat any price. Finally ready. I went there last night. I want the WDP/Parchment- no stock-only Black/Camel with Nav 32900+TTL. Have a trade of 1999 F-150 EXT cab 119,000-offered $4500. Since not the color combo I wanted said when 06's come in next week would sell for $35,450- $500 off invoice.
E-mailed Goodson as soon as I got home. Came back today with WDP/Parchment NAV $33,318. 3 weeks ago $400 below invoice(31585) Gonna go to dealer tomorrow and offer 32500(100 below invoice). How does that sound, because I have no problem walking.
P.S. Black/Camel looked sweet- but shows dirt way to bad-anyone seen the ABP- not many here in Dallas.
Closest places to me are Shreveport and Houston (4 hour drives). My biggest problem is the trade in - impossibe to do at a distance like that. I will pass this along though. Two ways to tell the true value of your trade: 1) See what the internet sites are selling them for at the dealers' sites. (You wouldn't believe the look I get when they downplay the value of my vehicle by $4000 and then show them the same vehicle with the same or more miles for MORE than what I'm asking. The jaws really drop an they get quiet, only they don't budge or say "You're right. You should try to sell it yourself". The other way is the MONTHLY NADA book, not the quaterly one. They try to misdirect you to Kelly Blue Book, but that is a site owned by dealers. NADA by the way stands for National Automotive Dealers Association. Most Credit Unions have this book (TELCO in BR) and there is a front page chart to deduct mileage in addition to a page specifically for what it's worth by year. Also interesting to see a loan value, trade in and retail. If the dealers want to retail you the new car, always say sure, we'll go retail on my trade. If you're buying used, loan value is what the car is worth, period. Sounds like I may try Metairie to see what they have and IF they will deal. The Baton Rouge Acura folks are clearly taking advantage of the Hurricane situation, which to me ought to be illegal. Maybe Acura is not the car to have. Will keep you all posted.
I am serious about getting a 2005 TL w/Navi right now if I can get a decent price. I have been reading all of the posts and I keep seeing prices well below invoice according to Edmunds.com ($33,712). I'm having a hard time trying to get a dealer to go for anything near invoice let alone under. I have told them that the deals are out there for $32,500 and that is what I am willing to pay with no extras. They won't budge and claim that their invoice is $32,980 and that they need $33,480 to make $500. I have gone up to $33,000 so far with no deal. Plus I can't seem to get any concession to their $388 doc fee. They claim that "corporate" sets this and they are unhappy but that is the way it is. I think that this is just more dealer built in profit but I'm not sure. I told them thanks for their time and walked out. No follow up or anything. I sort of expected a let's talk a little more at the last minute since I told them I didn't have a trade in and could set a deal immediately (I have the funds to make the deal myself or will consider a great finance deal). This is in the Phoenix metro area and I am wondering if these under invoice deals with extras are made up as these dealers claim or how in the world are they able to sell at below invoice? Can someone enlighten me? :confuse:
In negotiating a price for a new 2005 TL I wouldn't mind getting a rear wing spoiler. I keep getting quoted $799 installed. I did a double take since the Acura build site shows $599 plus install. The dealers claim that they will sell the wing for $635 plus $164 install since they have to re-spring the trunk lid.
What have others paid to get a wing added to a TL deal?
I recently purchased a 05 TL and the dealer threw in wheel lock nuts. I was looking at my wheel nuts and noticed one of the nuts require a star tool to remove. Is this the normal location to install the lock bolts? Is the wrench included in the trunk?
BTW, no problems and really enjoy this car @ three weeks.
3) go over to the real-world trade in values board in smart shopper and ask terry what your trade is worth. give him a accurate description and he'll give you an accurate answer.
I just wanted to thank everyone who posted there quotes for new Acura TLs, it was very helpful when preparing to buy one. I just purchase a '05 6-speed manual with nav, Silver/Ebony, in Seattle and paid $33,500 plus TTL. It was pretty tough to get them down that far. The '05 6-speeds with Nav were pretty hard to find. Only one of the three dealers in the area had them. Anyways it's a done deal and now it's time to enjoy my new Acura with no regrets.
Captn Crunch. I seriously doubt that "corporate" sets the doc fee. That's ridiculous. Why should Acura/Honda care what dealers charge for typing up documents (which probably takes a secretary ten minutes, if that). They're padding the price. In fact, as I recall, in my area, the state has fixed the doc fee at something like $55, so dealers can't pull any shenanigans.
I purchased a black on parchment 05 TL navi in Falls Church VA three days ago for a base price $33K (including destination charges)+TTL. The dealer experience was okay and I should have probably negotiated at least $500 off of the 33K, but the price out the door came to a not too shabby $34.5K. I've heard of great prices in the So Cal and mid western regions. Anyone else have better deals/experiences in Virginia area?? The financing was a crappy 5.09% though.
Thanks bartalk3. I have been doing a little more research and learned that this so called dealer invoice may not always be the dealer's actual cost. It sounds like most dealers get a holdback from the manufacturer of 3-4% of either the MSRP or invoice. So on a '05 TL with an invoice of $32,980 @ 3% the dealer automatically makes $989. I also see that the true doc fee really should be about $50 to cover the setup, etc. of the paperwork (most should be a standard template).
I guess I'll keep looking around. It just puzzles me that here I am ready to sign a check and pick up a car and all I get is a ho hum attitude. I'm not too worried. I figure if no one is going to deal now I'll wait until December and shop again for an '06.
There are four wheel nut locks, one for each wheel. The dealer should have returned to you the four standard lug nuts that he replaced with the wheel lock nuts as well as given you the star nut adapter that fits your lug wrench. When I picked up my TSX, the dealer had repackaged the original nuts and the adapter and left it in my trunk.
If you don't the four original nuts and tool, ask your salesman for them.
I paid $500 bucks installed....their initial price was much higher....but I said $500 is the most I will pay and they accepted the offer without a fight....makes you wonder huh??? If you pay what they are asking....they will make at least $300 profit without breaking a sweat....stick to your guns.....
captn. crunch. Besides the holdback, Acura may be giving dealers an incentive on the remaining '05s. Probably the reason they let you walk away is that they probably only have a few remaining '05s (my dealer has about 8), so they figure they can sell them all with no trouble and don't need to give anybody a particualrly good deal.
If you wait till the end of December or January when nobody's buying cars, you will probably be able to get a good deal then.
I'm new to this board. I just got a 2006 TL in northern California w/o Navigation, for $32,499 including a protection package of the wheel locks, trunk tray and splash guards. I also got them to throw in the invisible car bra protection which is normally $800 or so.
This price is before tax, but includes desitination and fees.
I looked at the 05 and they are pretty similar except for the display panel is a blue color now. The warranty went up on the power train to 6 years, 70,000 miles. That was nice.
That's a good price for a new '06 right out of the box. Plus they threw in the extras. Let us know how you like the car and any problems you might have (e.g., rattles).
I revisited the kit and realized that they did install the nuts. Didn't realize the star bolt was part of the locking kit. I thought that there was a locking key to insert as my Porsche nuts had.
I purchased my 06' TL at Niello in Sacramento. They were very good to deal with. Not a lot of messing around except for my trade in, but that is pretty standard no matter where you go.
I have driven it a few days now and I think this is one fantastic vehicle. There are no squeaks that I can notice. I like the blue backlighting on the non-NAV 06' information display. It is easy on the eyes at night.
I think the only thing I would like to do is to get the windows a little darker. I am trying to find a competant window tinting place here in Reno where I live. I may have to go back to California for it.
This is one nice car. Very quick and corners very nicely. My wife's boss's husband has already had a look at it and wants to go to the same place to go pick one up.
Sacramento dealer actually was charging me the most out of the all the northern cali dealership i've been to. Every bay area dealer was quoting me invoice for 05 tl w/navi but sacramento/elk grove didnt even consider it. They just tell me that the bay area dealer was going ridiculously low with their prices and said that they even try to complain to the those dealers before but they just dont seem to listen. For some reason, not only acuras in/near sacramento are the only one charging more than the bay area. I tried so hard getting them to match a price for a g35 that was given to me from a bay area dealer and they just ignored me and didnt even bother to negotiate. And thats for a year end model car. So I ended up waiting a few weeks and get a new year model for $500 over invoice from the bay area. so if you want more competitive price check out the bay area dealers.
When I did my research, I got the price in writing (well, email) well before going there. I emailed the internet sales department and they were quoting me $500 over invoice on the 05' TL. I wasn't even thinking about an 06' until I went there and saw that they had some that just came in. When I saw a few of the differences, I simply asked what they were asking for the 06' and it was only $900 more than they were asking on the 05'.
I did go down to Elk Grove and was not very impressed with them to be honest. Niello (at least the internet sales department) were very good to deal with. If interrested, I would simply email the internet sales department and get a price quote for either one and see what they respond with).
When I contacted Acura of Orange Park they orginally quoted $30,250 for a non Navi 2005. When I asked about any extra fees they said there was a $499 doc fee. I emailed back and said that if they excluded the doc fee we had a deal. So the actual price of the vehicle broke down as follows:
Thought I would let everyone know that after an exhaustive search I purchased on Saturday an 05 TL non-navi, black w/ quartz from Rosenthal Acura in Maryland for $31,873 out the door. I got the car at invoice $30164+ $615 destination fee. I paid a $95 documentation fee, 3% VA sales tax and $73.50 for tags, title and registration. They also threw in wheel locks, trunk tray and splash guards for free.
The experience was great all around. Pohanka had the second best price, however, nobody could match the professional and up-front approach of Rosenthal.
I have noticed that there seems to be more White Diamond, Silver and Anthracite vehicles available than any another colors right now. Any Abyss Blue cars seem to show up and disappear right away, Green was discontinued a while back (why?), an occasional Red will pop up and no Black. Is this related to the factory determining that these two colors will sell better or what? Just curious since I am sort of partial to the Blue.
That is the best price I have seen. I suspect ACura has a little dealer money. Even without it the Holdback allows a little profit since DOC fee is fairly high.
I resent a $99 fee! where do $500 come from. Mars....
ptwells I spoke to my salesman yesterday. He assured me that he will be selling me the 2006 TL w/Navi at $500 over invoice. They have not received a 2006 yet, but will call me when they have one in and the invoice in hand. They have a white w/parch coming in the next day or two, so I should know more very soon. I'm beginning to believe that he will honor the quote he gave me when he accepted my check for $1000. His quote is worded as $500 over dealer invoice for red/parch, $604 rear wing spoiler installed, all weather mats, trunk tray, splash guards(not installed) for $246.84. My salesman seems like a honest guy and I'm trusting him until something proves me wrong.
mgordon1, Thanks for the update. Based on your $500 over, it would be a $1,250 swing between a 05 and the 06 on a non-navi - very enticing. It wouldn't be the dealer you mentioned elsewhere would it?
I'm not in a hurry although the sales tax deduction has some impact. So far everyone I've contacted has been carry the party line of "full tilt" on the '06 and interestingly many have been trying to squeeze up the price on '05's - although they drop back down rather quickly.
Got a quote from Goodson acura in dallas area for a 05 TL w/o navi AT for 30,750. Do you guys think it is good price? I am still debating whether I should buy the 05 or wait for the 06. The only difference I see between them is the tire pressure monitoring system, active assist to reduce torque steer and couple of new colors. Am I right?
Ooooh I hate hearing that  (I'm in BR area, too).
I sense an arrogance there price wise (agree with you on that, Achenator) and have heard the same from a few people I know who have purchased in Baton Rouge (including $2000 over invoice in July'05, for example; probably could have got for $1000 over elsewhere but didn't want the hassle) and are in the car business. I changed my mind to an '06 when I went there to nail down the price of an '05 due to color combination change I preferred so never did get them to put their best '05 foot forward.
Keep posting on the Baton Rouge "deals" :confuse: Especially if it turns out to be worth a darn or on an '06 like I'm looking at
I am partial to the blue as well. I finally saw the '06 Royal Blue Pearl (on an '06 Honda Civic, actually) and fell in love with it. It was all shined up nice and made me feel like a kid in a toy store (I want it now!) :P . I personally think it is a big improvement over the '05 Abyss Blue.
tlman, Congrats on your deal - you got them down to just about list & shipping. What dealership? Also any noticeable color difference from the 05 Silver to the 06 Silver? No one in my neighborhood has an 06 on the lot yet.
I was looking for a v6 sedan to tow a thistle, small lightweight sail boat. and trailer. I know several people that tow the boat with Neon's, older Acura's, etc. Does anyone have any experience towing with the TL? Probably looking at no more then 1k. Boat is 515, trailer is probably 2-300, gear maybe another 200.
Hey joseph42s, I have an 03 tl-s (same powertrain) and I towed a motorcycle trailer (prob 500lbs +) and a motorcycle (400lbs+) over 800 miles roundtrip and it did beautifully. I didn't even notice it was back there with the cruise set to 80. The amount of weight you describe should not be a problem. Enjoy.
Good price. I was on their lot yesterday. I did not see a 5 speed but did see lots of silver and white 05's and the new 06. The new silver is a little richer color.
Anyhow, I like Don Carlton Acura. I bought 04 and 05 TL there. They have decent prices and treat you fairly. I think at this point I would get a 06 for Tire pres system which gives cool valve stems and covers, better warranty, at least $1000 more car value in return, and revised torque handling in computer.
Going to purchase 2006 TL - auto, no nav, anthracite/ebony. Went to Acura of Bellevue. They're giving me the spiel that they can't come down on price for the 2006. They want $33, 325. I think invoice is around $30,500. I've NEVER paid full price for a car. And, being that I'm female they treat me like I don't know @#@#!@!#@ but I've done my research. Anyone else out there in Seattle area who has or is looking to buy a 2006 TL (no nav)? I'd really like to get an idea of what others are paying. Also, FYI that the dealerships are just now getting the 2006 in this area so I think they're using that to leverage asking for the full price. BTW, I don't have to buy this car. I have an Accord 2003 EX V6, very satisfied but want to step up. Any info/opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.
tcblair, yes there does appear to be a nice cartel (pardon the pun) in the NW. The best 05 price (year end) was $32,000 (non-navi). Compare that to low end 30K (with a little work) in CA - depending on dealer stock, etc. for a 05.
As for the 06, I figure list + freight puts a non-navi just under $31k (keep in mind the 3% dealer holdback). Looking at recent posts, there may be some earlier price give, but most are currently quoting MSRP because of the currently limited supply in dealer inventory (if any in some cases).
IMHO, I think 06 prices may soften quicker this year because of gas prices and some improved alternatives - probably not so much in the NW - because as you've seen, most dealers still have a healthy supply of 05s and are not too worried from a pricing standpoint.
I'm looking out of state and figure even with shipping, I'll still beat NW pricing by $1k - $2k (even the costco route was only a token reduction). I purchased my last car online from out of state and had it delivered to my door as promised without any hassles or problems.
Let me know if you're interested in trying to put a super 2-fer deal together.
