    smarttyjones,

If not too personal, what did you end up having as a monthly payment? Again, just trying to see if I'd be paying too much or not and I know I have to take into account your location, plus yours being a SE versus the SEL I'm interested in. Thanks! :)

    Gyrlwolf,

I had a trade-in for $1000 and I put $3000 down, so I am financing about $21000 with VW credit at 3.9% for 36 months. The monthly payment is about $620 (if I remember it correclty).

    Smarttyjones,

Thanks for the info. I keep trying to debate if I really want the nav or if I'd rather have the sunroof. :confuse: People have told me that I can always just buy a TomTom or Garmin. LOL And save the money.
  • bvdj84bvdj84 Member Posts: 1,724
Or just buy and Iphone, Love it!
  • GyrlwolfGyrlwolf Member Posts: 35
You mean just buy one with a sunroof and not the nav and just use an IPhone for directions?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,789
You can buy a pretty decent Garmin unit for $199 at BB... That will get you widescreen and text-to-speech instructions...

If you are on a budget (and who isn't?), dropping $1700-$2000 on factory NAV is just crazy..

Thank you for the suggestion. I know your right and will probably redo the numbers on a lease with the panoramic sunroof without nav. :shades:

Dealer gave me new offer of SE Model w/4Motion, Nav, Gorilla Mat Kit, 18 in' wheels (versus the normal 17 in' with this trim model) & Sunroof for $439 a month with $3,000 down and $1,000 dealer cash. It's a 36 mth/12K lease with a financing total (TTL already included) of $31,362. Black w/Charcoal Interior. Wanted Candy White With Charcoal Leather (SEL 4Motion Model) but this offer seems better than last and includes Nav. Dealer off tomorrow, but holding vehicle aside for me for 2 days maximum, to give me time to mull over offer. Have 3 payments left on current Honda Pilot 42 mth lease of $355 that I'll have to pay off myself if I want to jump on this deal, but friends of mine think it's worth it for all that I'll get. Thoughts? :confuse:

$500/month seems like a lot.. No leather for that, right?

I don't know the lease program for the Tiguan... I'm assuming it isn't very good.. That may be a decent lease price for the car you are getting, but it sure isn't a very good value, IMO...

But... it's not my money.. ;)

It's $439 a mth (but close enough to $500...smile) The current lease offer on a Tiguan is just the base trim model S (the offer I'm being given is for the middle one the SE trim) and the base model's lease offer per VW is $299 a month for 36 months , 12K miles a yr and $2399 down, (excluding tax, title, options and dealer charges) per their ad online. And yes, this is the non-leather version. Now what do you think?A good deal or no?
    Patiently awaiting your reply. :)

    $3000 minus $439 = $2561 divided by 36 months.. = $71/mo... + $439 =

    $510/mo...

That's the best way to compare lease prices... What is the total cost divided by the term...

With the same calculation, the base model is leasing for about $355/mo. + tax..

My feelings are still the same.... The lease program isn't very good, which makes the Tiguan an expensive vehicle to lease, relative to it's purchase cost... But, that isn't that unusual... there aren't many SUVs that are good lease buys, right now..

Hopefully, someone will post a comparable lease price over in lease questions... We don't have a lot of activity to compare prices on the Tiguan..

I wouldn't be in a hurry, either way.... Especially since you have 3 months left on your lease... If you find a comparable vehicle without NAV, you'll save about $25/mo, even at these prices..

    regards,
    kyfdx

Thxs for the feedback. I think I'll take your advice and wait a little bit. Feeling too rushed right now and I don't like to rush when it comes to money. Plus, since the Tiguan is a new model, I think I'd rather lease versus purchase, just in case it doesn't end up being all I expected, if you know what I'm saying. I too hope we'll see more comparable lease prices soon over in lease questions.

    Cheers,

I have also been looking at the SEL Tiguan with roof & after much work was given an internet price of $28990 plus tax, tags etc.( That included the $1000 rebate for using their financing.) One dealer offered me $500 above invoice & I laughed at him because 2 other dealers gave me below invoice pricing.
I am torn about this vehicle because all of the reports say it is not an economical choice--way overpriced. I hear VW is expensive to repair & maybe not as good as they say with their "german engineering". A mechanic told me he doesn't like VW's, other people say I'm crazy for spending so much when other car manufacturer's are giving theirs away & some with 0% financing.
I don't feel good about spending $30000 + on a car but I've tried driving others & keep thinking about this car. I love this car but not the price. If it was say $4000 less, I'd have had one for 2 weeks already. It's compared to the Honda CRV, Toyota Rav4, & Subaru Forester but the Tiguan, I feel, has so many more options built in (but for $5000 more!) & the leather is so much nicer so it's hard to talk myself into one of these others. Then I think about what I could do with the extra $5000............
I haven't made a decision yet but need to this week. I guess I really really want the Tiguan but feel it's too expensive & don't want to pay their price. I am very unhappy with ALL of the VW dealers elitist, snobby attitudes & feel the same as many--- that they should appreciate our business & be willing to negotiate better in these economic times. But, they DON'T. I walked out of a deal over $690. They could've sold their car but wouldn't come down that amount...actually called me the next day & RAISED the price because they said they made a mistake. Are you kidding me, lol?????????? What kind of business ethic is that! So I'm a little torn over VW, sour over all of those issues but love that little Tiguan. :confuse:

Leased a SE Model w/4Motion, Nav, Gorilla Mat Kit, 18 in' wheels (versus the normal 17 in' with this trim model) Sunroof, and bluetooth phone adapter kit included for $417 a month with $3,000 down and $1,000 dealer cash. It's a 36 mth/12K lease with a financing total (TTL already included) for $30,000. Black w/Charcoal cloth Interior. Wanted Candy White With Charcoal Leather (SEL 4Motion Model) but couldn't find one in the area with anything but light beige interior and with a 5 yr old and a small Italian Greyhound, didn't want to worry about the dirt showing. Plus, my boss has a VW Passat Wagon with the beige leather and she showed it to me and her vehicle is only 2yrs old and it shows EVERYTHING! So far no regrets, vehicle is a blast to drive and I'm happy I didn't go with Rav 4, CRV, or RDX. I like the way this one handles, and I've even had the pleasure of driving it in snow and ice and no problems at all. Handled beautifully. And the panoramic sunroof is wonderful! Oh yeah and super quiet drive so far. Also purchased the $45 IPod adapter kit at dealership and my IPod Touch intergrates worry free with the nav system. Am able to control everything on it from steering wheel or the touchscreen nav.

Could anyone please tell me for certain, whether or not the $1000.00 cash to customer incentive this month is valid on leases. I spoke with a dealership who is telling me that is only for financing and not good on leases. Thanks for any help.

I like it, any problems yet, how much for additional mileage? could you please tell me the dealership you leased your car from. Thanks.
sounds like a pretty good deal if you stay under 12,000 milers a yr.

Anyone know exactly when the SE with leather will be available in southern California? There's some glitch in the inventory listed online that shows alot of SE/with leather in stock. But none of them are here yet. I'm hearing late May to early June. Anyone know for sure. We were going to buy an SE, but I really want leather and if it's just a few months, I"m willing to wait.

    Thanks for any information.
  • bocamom1bocamom1 Member Posts: 6
We live in Southern Florida and bought an SE with Leather. We love it, it is worth the wait for leather interior!
  • nm8trixnm8trix Member Posts: 4
Wow, you have one already. That's great to hear. So maybe they'll be here sooner than the dealer is saying. They were really trying to press us to hurry up and buy the SEL. But we really don't need all the extras that come with it and we're definitely not interested in paying for them.

    Thanks for the information.

What color exterior/interior did you go with? I think I want the white gold/tan leather, but haven't seen that color in person. So not sure.
  • girlienoirgirlienoir Member Posts: 11
Hi... I looked at a SE with after market leather... It was in Ohio by Katskinz...it was gorgeous!! Beautifully installed!!! Maybe thats an option for you...Im like you, it must have leather. :)
  • bocamom1bocamom1 Member Posts: 6
Actually we bought white with black interior. We wanted white with beige interior but we couldn't find one. The white gold is nice too, we thought about that too. However, in the end we chose white. My husband drives the car a lot and he liked it better. The white gold is like champagne and I read that those color cars have more accidents because they are hard to see in certain weather conditions, i.e. like rain and fog. It rains a lot in Southern Florida in the summer months. If you live in California it probably won't matter as much. We love the car and have had it since October. We have the moon roof, a very nice feature. We also like the power seats on the driver side. I would recommend both of those features. We did not get the navigation, we didn't think it was necessary.
  • nm8trixnm8trix Member Posts: 4
We thought about after market leather and were going to do it. But lots of people talking us out of it. Even a sales guy, who could have sold us a car last weekend, said it wouldn't be as nice as factory.

So we decided to wait until the SE with leather gets here ... supposed to be May or early June.

We really have to have the leather. We have a big dog that will be using the back seat more than anyone else.
  • nm8trixnm8trix Member Posts: 4
So, is your car an SEL? or the SE/with leather?

Great point about the white gold and visibility. We've been having a terrible time deciding on color. I'm so tired of silver and it seems like all the car manufacturers have made half the color choices grey or silver. We might go with white or maybe even red. My husband likes the gray. Definitely would like the tan interior, but it seems that most of the cars here are gray interior.
  • girlienoirgirlienoir Member Posts: 11
Gotcha... the one I drove the other day was absolutley gorgeous! But hey, to each his own... I will never own another car without leather.. it makes a huge difference!!

I want a Tiguan so bad... the payments scare me... I have never been over $300 a month... would have to put down over 6500 to be ther on a LEASE... I make good money but in sales that could change in a minute in this cliamte...But I want that car!! lol
  • girlienoirgirlienoir Member Posts: 11
Appreciated the feedback about factory installed leather. One dealer called it a bad fitting suit..haha

SE w/factory leather is on its way! Ship on the Atlantic now... a few dealerships getting it in Ohio. I think Im getting a candy white w/beige interior, black carpeting ...just gorgeous! Expected to be here end of April or 1st week of May at the latest.

I wanted the SEL model with navigation and the power sun roof but MSRP of over $35,000 put it out of reach. Was dealing with a dealer over the internet for an SE when he got a used SEL with 6500 miles with Navigation, sun roof and 6 CD player and it was the color I wanted.
    Price was $28,900.

    Its sitting in my driveway.
  • girlienoirgirlienoir Member Posts: 11
    Awesome!! Post some pictures!!!!

I was going to get white/beige...but they found me a Black/black leather SE at the factory with the pano window...I will have it May 12th! Im installing ipod, blue tooth phone kit and some chrome trim... cant wait!
  • GyrlwolfGyrlwolf Member Posts: 35
You were able to get a Tiguan with nav AND the 6 CD changer? My dealer and the East Coast Regional Manager (who I had to get involved since the invoice stated it should have one but it didn't) told me that if you got the Nav system it cancelled out the 6 Disc in dash changer. I told her I thought it could be in the glovebox, trunk or center console, but she claimed it couldn't be like that with the Nav. My Tiguan is a 4Motion SE model though, so could that be the difference? That it's not the SEL model? :confuse:
  • gordon17gordon17 Member Posts: 7
The 6 CD changer was installed in the center console. The car was originally a VW reps car. The dealer was surprised when he found it while going through showing me the operation of the vehicle.

    Hello,

I live in South Florida and have been tryin to order an SEL since last May!!!!! They still won't take orders! They were saying because of the NAV...then it was because of the demand for the Tiggy in Europe....no one would take my order!!!! I had a fleet dealer check about ordering a 2010 last week since it is about that time...first they told him they could order it for Sept 2009's shipment....now, they say once again...don't know pricing...can't order!!!!!

If you want it so badly, you could flight to DC area, get one and drive it back to FL. :P .I saw a lot of SEL here.

I received a quote of SEL w/ sunroof for 3k below msrp here in the bay area while there are deals like 6k off msrp + 0% APR in the east coast. Any NorCal Tiguan shoppers here got better deals? Thanks for any input! ;)

Just received the following from my VW dealer. This is for a 2009 FWD SE, Alpine Gray + sunroof + floormats. (I am in North Carolina.)

    MSRP $29,174.00
Invoice $27,213.00 (The invoice on the car is $27,006.00 edmunds does not account for the $25.00 port prep, and $182.00 Interest Reserve that the dealer pays)
Internet Sale price $26,563.00 $661.00 saving below Edmunds TMV of $27,224.00
    Tax 3% $ 796.89
    Admin $ 389.00
    Tag $ 80.00

    Total Out the Door $27,828.89

Based on earlier appends, I think maybe another 3-500 less would be good, but availability of Tigs seems to be limited now.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks for the info. I am looking for the exact same configuration and waiting for quotes from Santa Clara Volkswagen (through Costco) and Oakland Volkswagen. Will let you know when I hear from them. I think 500-1000 below invoice is not bad. BTW, how do you get 3% tax. I thought CA sales tax was around 9.25%.

    thanks

If you are still in the DC area, can you tell me if the panoramic sunroof lets in too much glare on days like Sunday 4/26/09? I normally enjoy light coming through a smaller sunroof or moonroof and am concerned if the panoramic roof lets in too much light.
  • GyrlwolfGyrlwolf Member Posts: 35
I live in NJ and this weekend and today it was 92 degrees and SUPER SUNNY. I have a black Tiguan SE with 4WD and charcoal cloth interior. I found that it varies though out the day. At certain times the sun shines on my Navagation screen and depending on how the sun is sitting it bothers me and other times, it's fine, with only VERY minor glare. If I feel it's getting too warm inside, even with the AC, I close the sunshade forward and it's fine. It lets in just the right amount of light. Not too much, not too little, considering it has a "mesh-like" sunshade. Get the panoramic sunroof. We LOVE it and are glad we didn't decide against it. Hope this helps! :)

Just wanted to give an update on my recent SE FWD purchase.

2009 FWD Alpine Gray Tiguan SE w/Leather and Pan. Sunroof in Nashville, TN:

Sale Price: $28,063 ($28 below invoice)
Tax (7.65%): $2,147 (sucks, but get $400-$500 back after tax deduction in 09)
    Fees: $269
    Total OTD: $30,479

I was originally going to purchase an 09 Honda CRV EXL (already had the deal worked out and ready to sign), but liked the way the Tiguan looked and drove much better and the 0% APR made it possible for me to go up a few thousand over the CRV price...plus there are just so many CRVs on the road. I wanted something different and the Tiguan has great user reviews...and I see why.

I'm loving the car so far, but has anyone else experienced a slightly delayed acceleration response when hitting the gas from a stopped position? It doesn't do it when I use the manual tiptronic shifter though. Just wondering if this is normal in the FWD Tiguan when in auto drive

    Thanks.
    Matt.

We picked up our 2009 Tiguan in Chicago. Here is the configuration:

    2009 Tiguan SE 4Motion
    Panoramic Moon Roof
    Flap Guards
    Mat Kit

    $27,950 + Tag, Tax, Title
    0% APR for 60 Months
Included $470 VW credit towards first installment under graduate financing

We turned down an offer from another dealer that included the Protection Kit ($300) and 18" New York Alloy Wheels ($400) for the same price. We paid the premium as we were keen on specific color and this dealership manage to procure it after a 10 days wait.

We were almost inclined towards CRV LX 4WD but the base model had a little unimpressive interior for the price you pay. When you compare the price/features of CRV upgrade (at usual 4-6% financing) to Tiguan (at 0% financing) there is not much difference in what you pay. But world of difference in your driving experience.

I don't have to promote Tiguan on the Tiguan forum. But those thinking of a CRV, just do yourself a favor and test drive a Tiguan. We were sold the moment we opened the door. Of course this is our second VW so there was always a bias.

The amount of electronics/electric controls are bit intimidating from maintenance perspective. Beyond warranty period, you always want to take the Tiguan to VW dealer only. So I guess purchasing an extended warranty is a must.

@Bamatide01 - I observed a little delayed response when moving from a stop as well. And ours is a 4Motion. The power is bit intimidating in a stop and go traffic - so I guess we are glad there is a delayed response. I am not sure if it is intentional or some kind of design flaw though.

VW is now offering 0% as per their website but it does not state for how long. I spoke to one NJ VW dealership who said it was for only 36 months. Can VW dealerships offer the Tiguan for up to 60 months? Thanks!

Also, how much under invoice can I purchase a Tiguan SE with roof in NJ?
Additionally, is the 4motion option worth paying the extra $2k for? Any help would be great as I really like the Tiguan but as CR states "its pricey".
  • toddh3toddh3 Member Posts: 16
I live in South NJ and all the dealers are coming in at bigger nos in the $430 range with $1500 down just for the SE with roof not the 4motion. Can you please mention who the dealership is so I can call them?

Planning on trading in an Odyssey, 25,000 miles, touring model. Can i expect a decent trade and still get a good price on a base model tiguan?? Was close to getting a crv but thought the VW would be a better product. Noticed there was a huge diff. between the base S and the next model up SE (in terms of usable extras - esp. for nearly $4K.

How is vw doing these days as a company and how 'motivated' are they to shift the tiguan specifically?

like another post said the finance offer is worded rather slick ie "as low as..." . That said one post did mention 0% for 60 months. Has anybody else been able to get this?

Funny - I never thought of getting a VW - always looked at the typical [non-permissible content removed] stuff ie honda, toyota - competition is great esp. in a crappy economy!

Just bought an SE, red/charcoal, hitch, mats, bluetooth - msrp $28519; internet dept threw in tint (charging $399) and window etching (charging $199) for a before TTL/doc fee price $25883. She was 28618 out the door. The SE seems to offer good value over the S (SE to SEL, not so much) and there seems to be more willingness to dicker on SEs, yet they do seem to have a lot of 'add on' type port options, mats, 18" wheels, etc. If any dealer is playing the 'no discount' or 'availability is limited' snob (a VW routine from the '80s) move on to the guy/gal who says 'we'll find you what you need' and 'we're dealing' (although availability on geman-built dubs like this will actually diminish starting now, dealers are just getting the last '09s now thru the next couple of weeks).

Max 36 month 0% in Phoenix from VW credit, don't know about the rest of the country.

Oddy, I worked at a VW parts dept as a student...the cars are fussy and can be expensive to maintain, but the fit/finish never make you feel like you're driving trash...nothing comes for free. VW's first quarter sales have been down, +/-20%, but not the +40% of the other guys; dealers seem to want to keep this momentum, plus there must be something unpublished VW of America is doing for dealers to account for these good deals people are getting. Re. trade, first find out what your car is worth (edmunds, cars.com) drive your trade there on buying day, tell them no trade, it's a great car, I'm keeping it. Make your best deal, and before you hit the finance guy, ask your salesman ok, what if I did trade it? I'm usually willing to eat as much as $1-1.5K vs. all the hassle of selling privately, but most dealers will never even give you that much...good luck! Get a Tig, you won't be sorry.

15K (I need for my commute)

I do not need the 4motion, but might be interested if it's not to much more.
