Thanks for posting the link. Didn't realize the link didn't post earlier. I'm looking forward to seeing hp on the turbo and gas mileage for the hybrid.

These are exceptions to the 5 yr/60,000 mile btb warranty:

Radio and audio systems (i.e., radio, compact disc player, DVD player, navigation system, and Bluetooth®): 3 years / 36,000 miles
    Paint: 3 years / 36,000 miles
Battery: 3 years / unlimited miles (100% covered 2 years / unlimited miles; after 2 years and within 3 years, 25% cost of battery and 100% labor cost covered)
Air conditioner refrigerant charge: 1 year / unlimited miles
    Adjustments: 1 year / 12,000 miles
Wear items: 1 year / 12,000 miles (e.g., belts, brake pads and linings, clutch linings, filters, wiper blades, bulbs, fuses)

Yeah, I got 2.9% rate as well so I put 0 down. :)
  • awahooawahoo Member Posts: 15
If this is true, then I guess it is NOT a 6/60 bumper to bumper warranty.(key words here...BTB).
  • russ67russ67 Member Posts: 6
The Hyundaiusa website has a blurb up about the hybrid and turbo models... 37/39 mileage for the hybrid, and 274hp for the turbo...........
  • m6userm6user Member Posts: 3,181
Well, for one, it's 5/60 not 6/60. Yeah, I guess bumper to bumper is kind of all encompassing but I think there may be other manufacturers that limit certain items to a shorter time period as well. They are all still called bumper to bumper by the public but I think you will find the manufacturers call them "limited warranties" so they aren't trying to say it's something it's not.

I debated that myself and ended up paying $995 for the gap warranty. My thinking, and what the dealer discussed with me, is that I drive far more than the 12,000 miles/year or whatever is in the warranty. So for example, a 5 yr / 60k warranty for me is really only a 3 year warranty, since I put on 20k miles/year. So by extending it to a 5 year / 100k warranty, I in essence just bought 2more years of warranty coverage.

So my opinion is -- If you will be putting a lot more miles on the car than the assumed 12k/year, and if you intend to keep the car at least 5 years, then it's at least worth considering the gap warranty coverage.

    and 274hp for the turbo...........

and 22/34mpg. This is projected so it's not written in stone but wow, that is a whole lot more HP than I thought it would come in at. I was estimating about 250-260 and actually hoping it would come in less just to keep the mpg really high but it looks like they did a good job with that yet. Man, a Mazda6 with over 270hp only gets like 26mpg hwy. It's almost too good to be true in a sense. To get that much hp out a 2.0L it must have some high compression numbers. Wonder how much torque and also wonder if it needs premium fuel. I'll have to check out the webcast tomorrow.
  • m6userm6user Member Posts: 3,181
You're talking about extended warranty coverage here, correct? Gap insurance is usually obtained when leasing or when little or no money is put down on a purchase to protect you in case you total it or it is stolen while you are upside down on the lease/loan. "Gap", meaing the gap(or chasm in some cases  ) between what you owe and what the insurance company will pay you.

Anyway, for you it may make sense to have that extra couple of years peace of mind. Others may wish to gamble just a bit more. Everybody's risk tolerance is different and there is no one right answer.

That's a nice find on the info. I really like that Hyundai put more into the Hybrid's visual differentiation than most carmakers. The numbers for the hybrid are a little low for me due to all the speculation, but we'll have to see tomorrow what the rest of the engine numbers are.

As far as the turbo, wow. I really hope Hyundai keeps their "projected" hp number up near 274. Hopefully this will quieten down those who feel a need for the V6. The only difference I can see with this car is the dual exhaust similar to the SE. I'm hoping they did more with the tuning of the suspension as well.

I would first check whether that warranty is transferable.

Second point, is that if you lose the car somehow (accident or theft) , you were already "using" the the warranty from day one and will lose whatever prorated value you have paid up to the moment the claim is filed (or adjusted, not sure)

I would wait a number of years before making the decision, learning how many miles you are typically putting on it, how the car is aging, reading the forums for typical problems, etc. By the time the warranty is nearing its end you will be flooded with extension offers and will have more information (and less pressure) to make the decision.

Has ANYONE seen, let alone driven, a stick shift (6 speed) 2011 Sonata yet? My dealer, here in Modesto, Ca., has been unable to tell me when they're going to be getting a manual transmission equipped Sonata for me to test drive. Also, the marketing people at Hyundai are really dropping the ball if they are only going to make the 6 speed available in the "base" GLS model. It would make more sense to put it in the sportier SE, as well as the price leader GLS. If this question has been answered somewhere else in the forum, please let me know where to look. I don't have time to read all 1938 messages that have been posted so far. Thanks

I have driven several of them..... full disclosure, I worked on the HMMA test track as a QC driver before moving to another QC department. They drive very well, pull through all the gears nicely although like any other 6-8 speed transmission it can be a bit busy. Clutch engagement is nice. I have only seen the manual in the baseline Sonatas. I imagine if enough noise is made to dealers or HMA there could be other transmission offerings in the trim lines. I'm not sure, I'm only a worker bee :shades:

The turbo model is stronger than a VW Passat 2.0T, that's the closest model I can think of comparing it to.

Just to let all of you know, several of us monitor these forums on our off time and feed the information to each other. It's not a company policy but something we take pride and concern in what we send out to our customers.

We hope you tell your friends about your positive Hyundai experiences and tell us about the problems.

Glad to hear you guys monitor these boards (and other boards, I'd imagine). I don't know if Edmunds users are typical of the entire car purchasing demographic or not but some people here have what I feel are very good ideas. Hope some of these can be incorporated into future updates/model revisions.

By the way, it must have been a tough job being a test track driver. Thanks for taking one for the team. :)

I've found Hyundai is very responsive to customer needs since I bought my 2006 Sonata.

A recent example, people complained the new Sonata's horn was weak. It's already fixed with a stronger dual horn. I hope you guys are looking at the steering sensitivity that causes a vague feel while cruising on level highways. I'm hearing it can be tuned on a scan tool!

    Keep up the good work!

We just bought a new vehicle. The 2011 sonata was at the top of the list, but we didn't buy it for two reasons. First, there was no six cylinder. We knew the 2.0 turbo would likely take care of that. Second, the passenger's seat sits too low and will not elevate. The new seat is different from the 2010 sonata. It sits at the same height, but it has a "contour" on the seating surface that has you sit several inches lower than the 2010. My wife is 5' 3" and felt like she needed a booster seat.

Has anyone see this week the LIMITED with Camel Leather interior?
  • darkhelmet16darkhelmet16 Member Posts: 13
No, still haven't seen it. It's been said several times that they should be showing up soon, though. Check with your dealer, they'll be able to search inventories -- just let them know that you want one as soon as they're available. I'm sure they'll give you a call.

    anybody watching media live?

Krafcik was taking but now it stopped.. must be my horrible connection.. :(
  • syitalian25syitalian25 Member Posts: 303
yeah wolverine I am watching it.. my crappy wireless connection is skipping a bit but I heard 269 ft. lb. torque at 1800 rpms??? HOLY CRAP ridiculous. Anyone catch the HP on the turbo??? I think I might have to trade my 2.4L so I can get that beast.
  • syitalian25syitalian25 Member Posts: 303
you would think they could take some of that $160,000,000 and get this guy a sleek looking headset haha
  • syitalian25syitalian25 Member Posts: 303
Here are a few details from the webcast -

.025 drag coefficient, 6 speed automatic, 209 HP, 37 city/39 hwy., and on a side note the led headlights look sleek. also comes with a panoramic sunroof.

I just called my insurance company and they did not offer the GAP insurance. Does anyone know where I can get the insurance online? I *google* around but did not find a good site that sells GAP. My dealer charged me $700 for the GAP. By reading this forum, it thought it was expensive and refused to purchase GAP from them.

BTW, I have very low down payment on my new Sonata :)

    TIA

My dealer in Atlanta has at least 2 or 3 of them in stock that I have personally seen.

I don't think you are going to be seeing many options for stick outside of the base model. Sticks only make up about 2% of new car sales according to posters on this website.

I was told by the my dealer that the Limited with camel comes with woodgrain accent and not the piano black.Does anyone know if this is true. I am waiting for a Black Plum Pearl with camel interior and I hope it comes with woodgrain. I just got a call from the dealer and they said my car should be here in two weeks.I am also getting the NAV.

    checkmate.

wow, what a brilliant effort by Hyundai. It seems like every new Hyundai info creates a huge amount of buzz. they are shocking us every time they release a new model. sonata Hybrid is the first hybrid i wouldn't mind driving. Turbo's 22/34 is amazing too. it has over 74hp but only loses by 1 mpg! that's very very impressive.

and Hyundai sold over 16k sonata this month. more than Altima for the first time!! Hyundai really might sell 200k sonata a year!
  • osaka75osaka75 Member Posts: 88
As if it weren't already difficult enough to choose among the three current 2011 trim levels. Now Hyundai has added two more excellent choices to the mix! Have fun deciding which to get.
  • LASHAWNLASHAWN Member Posts: 303
I know right. Now I'm gonna have to reevaulate my decision, may have to go with 2.0T Limited instead of 2.4L Limited.
  • maringamaringa Member Posts: 36
When are they going to start selling the turbo versions?
  • m6userm6user Member Posts: 3,181
    They said this fall.
  • swingmanswingman Member Posts: 54
did they say how much it would cost?

This fall really stinks for me. I have to get one by July 4th due to lease ending and fall is likely going to be after July.

It would be great if Hyundai fixed these two problems.

Does anyone know if there will be an official recall? Will it be done when I bring in my car to the dealer for my first oil change?

I'd appreciate it if anyone could give me some information about this.

Don't think they would do a recall over a weak horn. I'm sure it's not unsafely weak, just weak. I would guess there is no obligation on Hyundai to change out horns at all. If they do it, it will be from a customer service aspect not because they have to. They only do official recalls for fairly serious safety problems.
  • m6userm6user Member Posts: 3,181
It sounded like the SE 2.0T will be about 25k. They didn't provide prices other than that.

My local dealership had 8 Sonata 2011s, two of which were manuals. I bought the grey manual. Picked it up this afternoon to replace my manual 2.4 L 1999 Honda Accord. You really notice the increase in power of the Sonata. The parking brake is in the centre where it should be. In the middle of the speed gauge appears an up or down and the gear it wants, if you are slow on the shift. And the trip info is great with instant L/100 km, km till you need to fill up, etc. The outside temperature gauge in C, xm radio and quality sound were also great. It idles at about 800 rpm and likes to be driven below 2000 rpm. She moves smartly at 80 km/h in 6th gear. There is a ring that you must pull up so you will not get her in reverse by mistake. The trunk is huge. Like most new cars you can't see the stern or front bumper. Oh, and I asked why anyone would use the traction control off switch. You need that if you get stuck in the snow. If you are in the USA and reading this, you can translate all my units to Imperial measures.
  • syitalian25syitalian25 Member Posts: 303
I'm gonna call and see how much it would be for them to change it out.. if it's under $150 or so I would consider it, but that's unlikely.
  • meikmeik Member Posts: 63
Well, I have mine thru American Family Insurance. I thought all insurance company offered it, I am wrong. You could contact American Family Insurance and ask them.

I have had it once about a week ago, but I had it 3 times today. What happened was that I turned off my radio last night before I turned off my car. This morning, when I started up, I got radio noise even though radio was off. Then I turned it on and off, it went back to normal. I was able to video recoding it on my cell phone this time. I will take it to my dealer to show a manager.

Also, this morning, I turned my radio on and changed to XM. For more than 10 minutes, I didn't get a signal/station at all. All I got was "Loading XM" on the display. It was after radio noise issue so it might be related to that.

I know Travis had (or still has) some sound issue. I hope Hyundai already knows about the issue so that my dealer is able to fix it.

Just a heads up for those waiting on Wine interiors... Local Houston dealers have started getting them in today... along with the Camel leather and woodgrain...

So it will only be about $1500 more to get turbo, panaramic view, dual exhuast....I'm going to be pissed I got the limited if that's the case. I was already thinking why didn't they put dual exast on the limited (looks better) and that panaramic view would be awesome.

Don't you think it will cost more than that???? :(
  • jjx456jjx456 Member Posts: 41
The normally aspirated SE already had 18 inch wheels, dual exhausts and paddle shifters. The normally aspirated LTD doesn't have these features. Also, I don't believe the SE turbo is mentioned as having the panoramic moonroof. So the premium for the LTD turbo will likely be more than the premium for the SE turbo.
  • m6userm6user Member Posts: 3,181
Exactly. It sounds like the upcharge for the SE is around $1600-$1700. Since they are adding so much more to the Limited I would think that would be $2500 or so on top of the Limited price. Looking at about 30k for a fully loaded Limited 2.0T probably.

The steering issue is a more important one to me. Not that I think there's anything dangerous about it but I have noticed that, on the highway, the Sonata does tend to wander a bit. Is this related to the fact that its power steering is electronically controlled?

I don't know if it's relevant but I have a GLS. This may not be an issue with the SE.

This article should help a bit with the expected pricing on the turbo. It's not clear whether 27,500 suggested in the report is for the SE or the Limited. I would guess it's for the SE, which is a lot more.

Either way, it's more than I can afford. I'm living in NYC looking for a black/camel limited and no nav. If anyone has any luck on it in NY please reply!
  • wolverinejoe80wolverinejoe80 Member Posts: 337
it's gonna start a 24.9k and and max out at 30k. hyundai will always price it tad lower than the competition. can't wait till fall. it will be my car. :)
  • syitalian25syitalian25 Member Posts: 303
Hyundai said a well equipped Sonata Turbo would be available around $25K.. they are not putting the turbo in the GLS model, only the SE and Limited. Meaning the SE turbo will probably be about $25K and the Limited Turbo around $27,700 or so.
  • jparks8jparks8 Member Posts: 19
I just read the manual for my one-day-old manual Sonata 2011. By pushing both the hour and min buttons on the clock for 3 s you get a 24 h clock. Just think, my car clock will also read 20h00! That's made my day!
