on buying a minivan/crossover with a navigation system in the next 2-3 years, how does the Odyssey's system stack up against Toyota/Lexus? I saw the 2006 Freestyle ordering guide and it said that it would have the navigation system as an option starting next year. Has anybody ever used the Ford system? How good is it?

I used a friend's 2001 Odyssey w/ NAV on a Niagara Falls trip last year and it was pretty good. Is the 2005 better?

I don't know if you can set it to nothing but you can set it to "9" That's what I do so it is easy to enter the number and proceed.

I have a 2005 Odyssey touring. I like it and its Nav features but am sick and tired of having to reach over and hit O.K. everytime the system boots up. I have read the screen enough times to have it memorized. Is there a way to turn it off? I am a fairly competent PC User. Secondly How do i find out what version of the software I have? Is there a technical manual on the computer system/software that manages the Navigation system?

Eject the DVD under driver seat and the version should be printed on the disc. The version should be 4.13 or higher.

I have a 2000 Odyssey and want to update the system. Where can I find a disc other than the dealership? $185 is too much for the disc. You can find them on Ebay, but the discs are different colors. Just want to make sure I get the correct one.

    Hi,
I have a new Odyssey with the DVD/Nav system. My question is about the audio system. It seems that the CD player and the XM radio can't be played simultaneously in the front and back. If I'm listening to XM in the front and someone tries to listen to a CD on the headphones, an error comes up on the screen saying that "the system is locked, please pay a different source." Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas? Also I'm confused about XM1 and XM2, I thought that the reason there are two XM sources is so that people in the front can listen to XM1 and people in the rear can listen to XM2 on the headphones. But, when I switch the XM source in the front it also switches the rear. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Carson
  • chamlinchamlin Member Posts: 3
So, I think I found the answer. You have to put a CD into the DVD player in order to hear it in the headphones while XM is playing in the front.
    Strange but true!

    Hi,
Were you finally able to get your problem resolved? I am very very curious to
know as I have just purchased a 2000 Honda Odyssey and I am about to order
a verision 2.2 Nav disc from Honda dealer. After reading your mail, I wanted to
be absolutely sure before I attempt to do anything.

    Thanks...

You can make the clock display in large digits when not using the Nav?
Press on the time while at the shutdown screen.

how does that work for the 2005 touring odessy?

We are torn on whether to pay the 2000k for the Nav system. My husband is against and I am for it - I will be driving it with the kids in San Francisco Bay Area where we live. I also like the rearview camera feature when in reverse and am curious if I would really use the voice activated commands for the radio/tempeerature etc. Does anyone have comments?
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
I bought my Touring at invoice so the R&N package cost an additional $3400. Given that any decent DVD system would run $1000 and adding XM would cost at least $500, I figure my cost for the navigation system AND backup camera was about $1900 (adding a camera to a Pilot nav system can run as much as $1300). The camera has already prevented one collision.

The navigation system alone in my wife's '05 Pilot was a $2000 premium and is about 2 generations behind the one in the Odyssey. It was, relatively speaking, a poor buy. The voice commands do not work particularly well - the system misreads me at half the time.

Bottom line - the R&N package is well worth the money. Besides, from what you say, you want it and you will be driving the vehicle. Tell your husband he can decide such issues on his own vehicle.

I have a 2001 Odyssey with navigation system and I love it. I go to New York very often and since I am not from anywhere in this area, I drive with confidence anywhere.

I am about to purchase an Ody w/ NAV, but we are moving to Germany and it would render useless if I don't have a European disk for it. Does anyone know where I can get one, specifically for Bavaria, and how much they are? We will be doing a lot of traveling and it would be perfect to use there.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Check Honda's website for availability and pricing.
  • mike734mike734 Member Posts: 128
Reconsider taking the car to Europe. Get a diesel over there. They build cars over there different for a reason. If you need maintenance insurance parts....It is all bad. There is no compelling reason to bring an Odyssey over there.
  • regganaeregganae Member Posts: 22
I understand, but we are military, so it is very different. We don't pay what the Germans pay for gas (thank God), and we bought or 02 Civic there. They sell Ody's there through the military. I just ordered a '06 Ody today, but I was told an hour ago that the Navi would not work there. I would have to get one there to put in my van, but I will probably still get the Navi model because I like the camera, and we won't be in Germany forever. But I do understand what you mean about the diesel cars, but fortunately, being military, you don't have to go through all that.

    12) The OEM car navigators are "engineered into the dash", look great and perform the basic car guidance functions reliably. However, these OEM units generally cost more and offer inferior features and performance as compared with the StreetPilot 26XX and Magellan RoadMate units and other aftermarket equipment. We have had a number of reports of users unable to obtain map updates for OEM car navigation systems. Others have complained of the high cost of map updates for the OEM installed systems. We suggest you try and obtain a written guarantee of map updates for 5 years as a condition of buying an OEM car navigator. We suggest a discussion of the price of map updates is a good idea as well.

I have a 2005 we just got two weeks ago and I am having the same problem when I am on rual roads. Going to take it in to see if they can do anything. I did notice in the manual that the nav system could be off because DOD requires all GPS to have some inaccuracy. I have a GPS in my PDA that cost $200 an it's much more accurate than the 2K Nav in my Ody...

    regganae,

Have you contacted Honda yet reference a European or Germany based DVD for the Navigation system. I plan to ship my '05 Ody in a couple of weeks and Germany based disc would be great. I've had my van for 9 months and we love it. The navigation gets a little laborious at times but its still a great system.

    I have a 2002 Acura and I'm considering a 2005 or 2006 Odyssey.

I really like the navi system found in my Acura.

    Questions on the Odyssey Navi:

    1. How are they different, or are they the same?
    2. Some navis don't allow input while the car is moving. I realize this is for safety purposes, but I don't like it. I assume the Odyssey navi allows for input when the car is moving?
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
I don't know about the '02 Acura system but the Odyssey nav is wonderful - big screen, voice command ability, and, yes, it allows for input while in motion.
  • sebring95sebring95 Member Posts: 3,241
From what I've gathered, the Ody nav and the Acura Nav are essentially the same. It's a very good system, better than the '04 Lexus system my wife has in her GX470. It has some annoyances and is still lacking POI's compared to some aftermarkets I've used, but it's integrated nicely.

I'm in process to buy a 2005/6 Odyssey EX-L. I'd like to get the Navi but not
the DVD entertainment system. Looks like Honda's options need to have both.

Does anyone have any experience with an aftermarket Navi that's close in
quality to the original? What's the cost? Any waranty consideration that I should
    take into account?

Thanks in advance in sharing your experience.

I brought a Honda Accord to Europe in 2003. I loved the Navigation system in the states. Before I left the US I tried to get info from Honda USA about availability of a DVD for Europe. Absolutely no help whatsoever. When I got here I found a Honda dealer who was willing to order the DVD for Europe. He was willing to order, see if it would load in my car and return it to the warehouse if it didn't/ work.

It didn't! It seems that the DVD player in the car is a region 1 player as is the DVD that came with the car.

The DVDs in Europe are region 2 (which can't be read by region 1 players).

What is needed is an all region DVD or a means to convert the US DVD reader to an all regions reader.

Hate to tell you, you probably aren't going to be able to use the Nav system here. U thought about buying a European DVD reader for the car and buying the European DVD, but since the DVD itself is @400 euro ($500,00) it would probably be a $1000+ proposition.

Good luck, of you find a way to make it work..please post it here.

I have a 2000 Ody with GPS and love it. I will never buy another car without GPS. However, if I did I would get the portable unit by Lowrance. My friend just bought it for $650 and it rocks!

does anyone know of a good aftermarket gps with dvd head unit or system that will look "stock" once installed in a 2006 odyssey?
  • greglbsgreglbs Member Posts: 6
Does the 2005 Odyssey GPS system also support the standard trip computer functions? The older ones did not because they didn't have a connection to the car's odometer and fuel guage. Also when you are playing the MP3s are you able to select from the GPS screen?

Does anyone know how to delete a old address from the address book? I know this should be easy but I can't find it in the instruction book.
    Thanks,
  • jjtrindcjjtrindc Member Posts: 24
It's a bit difficult. I think you have to go through setup and personal information or something like that. It is covered in the separate manual on the gps system, not the main manual about the car itself.
  • sciencemanscienceman Member Posts: 80
Actually, Fujitsu Ten which owns Eclipse is the developer for many, if not most, Honda and Toyota electronics. When the in-dash CD changers first came on the scene, I bought an Eclipse unit that interfaced directly with a factory Toyota radio in a 4Runner I owned at the time. The Eclipse double din GPS unit looks very similar to the factory unit in the new Honda Civic.

I have a 2004 Sienna and a 2006 Odyssey. The navigation system on the odyssey is superior in most ways. However there are 2 features on the sienna that I really miss. On any marked point on the sienna (like the address list on the odyssey), you can attach a name and a selected icon which then appears on the map. So when I drive by my office, there is a building icon and a description "Long Beach Office" that shows up on my map. Or when I drive by my grandson's soccer field, I see a runner icon and a description that says "Astoria Field". These were both input by me, the user. I don't think there is any way to do this on the odyssey. Any comments?

Also on any destination, you can select a preview on the sienna which actually goes along the entire route on the screen using the scale you selected as if you were driving it. It is nice to see exactly the entire route before you leave. I also don't see this on the odyssey. Again, comments?

Is there any way to notify Alpine or Honda to see if they would add these features?

Any luck finding a copy? I am guessing it is easy to burn a DVD copy.
  • cwkwancwkwan Member Posts: 12
Eclipse makes a decent one ACN-5495
Pioneer also makes a decent one AVIC-D1.

It all depends on aftermarket head unit trims. There is none currently for the Honda odyssey although a dealer can custom build one at a reasonable price.

The quality is better in both these units than Honda's. Honda comes with a voice recognition as these do not.

Warranty - Just make sure the installers do not cut any of the original wiring. I hear that you can also have the installers bypass these units to have the option of navigating during normal driving.

You should be able to get the pioneer installed for approx 1400 or less. I'm not sure about the ECLIPSE.

    Hope this helps!

I have a 2002 Ody with GPS. The DVD unit is bad and I'd like to find a replacement. Anyone know of a place? It's just the DVD unit that fits under the seat that I need.

I bought a used 2000 Odyssey with a navigation system. The original owner left a password written down on some paperwork in the car, but we don't have a manual. The password he gave us doesn't work, so we can't use the nav system at all.

Does anyone know of a way to re-set the password, or eliminate the password requirement?

Does anyone know if you can get for the Nvaigation System that covers Mexico (not New Mexico)? :confuse: I would tink since they sell the in other countries that you could get one; however, I have not been able to find any. :(
  • jfergusjfergus Member Posts: 30
My '06 Accord manual says that you need to take it to a Honda dealer to have them clear the password. You probably just need to show proof of ownership.

Another alternative: did the previous owner give you the radio security code? It ought to be on a sticker somewhere (maybe stuck to the inside of the glove box) or written down. If so, there should also be a Navi code. These are used to reactivate these systems if the battery dies or is disconnected. So if you have these codes, you could disconnect the battery, and it should forget the password, as well as all entries in the address book and previous destinations. Then you give it the security code to reactive the system after reconnecting the battery.
  • russkrussk Member Posts: 2
Thanks! I'll give the battery disconnect a try. I thought that might be an option.

I recently purchased a fall 2004 update for my Honda Odyssey 2001 Navigator. I am not happy with this update and want to go back to 2001 DVD. I cannot go back and says i have to go to the dealer. Does anyone know how to reset the navigator's Firmware or reboot it. Does removing battery power help with the reboot?

I wish the Navigator had some sort of USB interface so it could be controlled or reset.

    thanks

    Hi, osorio1,

We like to keep feedback here in the Forums, rather than in email -- that way everyone learns from the answers. Also, typing in all caps makes it look like you're shouting, so you might want to take your caps lock off. :-)

Hello everyone! I recently purchased a 2002 Odyssey with the nav system. It had a version 2.11c with it but we cannot get it to work properly. It seems to go into an endless re-boot cycle and won't power up. The dealer told me that that disc is not compatible with our system, but according to hondanavi.com it should work. What's the deal?

I'm planning on purchasing the 2005 update disc (version 2.3) when it comes out in January... What is the actual update procedure? Just put the new disc in and it updates itself? Do you only have to reset the system if you're going "down" in revision level?

    Thanks in advance!

I have recently purchased a low mileage 2002 EX-L but it doesn't have the NAV/GPS system. On eBay I found and purchased what appears to be most of a NAV/GPS system to install in my vehicle. It is item #8020991695. Is the wiring already there to plug and play my system? Could someone more familiar with the NAV/GPS system tell me what other parts I may need to complete my installation?

Thanks in advance for any help.

The dash is completely different. I don't think you can retrofit a Honda GPS in to a non navi car.
  • elmalakoelmalako Member Posts: 2
We're considering buying an '06 Ody w/ nav system. We currently have a minivan w/ an after-market nav which can be programmed while driving. Is Honda's factory nav totally programmable by touch - and I mean every possible feature - while underway or are some programming functions disabled? The wife demands perfection or we'll be going aftermarket again. Thanks.
