Friend of mine just sold an ok, one-owner, purple, 92 Taurus GL with 120k. It had some little problems, all disclosed, iffy heat, some recent front-end work, nothing to write home about... he got $1,500, or triple what I would have paid. These things are trouble at 12 years of age, and they're tough to work on.
God help the poor saps who are looking for cars in the sub-$2k market.

They could buy my Volvo... :-)

by the way, I'm still in shock over that T-bird. Considering what some of these classic cars go for, I can't believe there is something that beautiful that can still be had for under $20k. Maybe I should just save my money up for next year and take a trip out there myself.

Plus, I'm only 20 miles from W. Chester.
And a true glutton for punishment.
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
The pictures are great and the miles are low, it's a black vehicle without a scratch, kind of hard to accomplish this, unless it was packed away or the pics are bad, no dings no kisses and awful shiny for a northern vehicle that has seen 7 winters, kinda makes me a little on the "noyvess" side, kinda makes me wanna go "hmmm" ...
"Maybe" this is why:

If you look at the Mgf sticker in the door, it looks like it "could" "maybe" have been messed with on a repaint, just guessing ... or, it was owned by a little 'ol lady that drove it to church on Sundays ~ Or, it was owned 3 times, been to 1/2 auctions and been to 2 states, but then I would be guessing ... this doesn't make it bad, but I would be a little suspect on a black 99 that looks like a 03 in that area, but if it's a straight vehicle, no runs, no hit's, no errors, then the dealer probably has in and around the high $5's, low $6's in it, depending on when he got it ..

Maybe means nothing, maybe means a lot .!

Terry.
My friend bid $33,100. Was outbid already.
The story he (the seller) is giving is that his friend is in financial straights and he is selling the car just to get some cash on hand. I didn't buy it but that's his story and he's sticking to it.
If you know of a nice RX300 or MDX that he could buy in the Texas,New Mexico,Oklahoma,Louisiana region e-mail me off line and I'll get you in touch with. Actually he is willing to have the vehicle shipped even it is further away.
Sure gives it a phony look!
Terry ;^}
Terry.
We'll see what happens. It was hanging down around $3500 for several days, so it was looking like a steal to me. I notice that it has started rising, as usual. Maybe at $4500 I'd take a chance, but above that and I'll let someone else figure out why it keeps getting kicked from auction to auction.
By the by, that same seller had a 2001 S2000 go off last night. Had a repainted passenger side BEFORE it met up with another fender bender on that same side, so it needed a second fixing! Had nice low miles, but at $18K, I hope the next owner is happy with his deal, cause I wasn't going to touch that.

The discrepency between what Edmunds says and what the dealer is giving me is almost $2000
Mileage is high (164k), and the interior shows normal wear for a vehicle with as many miles, though nothing major.

Terry, what say you on this '97 Camry listed above?
on higher mileage cars, take edmunds with a grain of salt. its hard for Edmunds to judge high mileage cars without seeing them, and I haven't quite figured out how Edmunds can do that yet... but seriously, for an example, go back and put 100,000/140,000/160,000 and then 200,000 in the mileage, and you'll see that after about 140k+ miles, the value never changes.... something wierd there, huh? this one is going to be a prime candidate for Retail Road... Terry will throw ya a much more accurate price.
I'll be glad to help, as I have appraisal experience as well, but Terry is far more the authority.
You'll have to pardon Terry - he's usually here at 5 am and posts sometimes 'til 2-3 am...he must be taking a well-deserved break.
This IS a volunteer deal on his part, as well as the other car biz pros who post here (me included).
How much did you say you paid for your free quote?
The car is beige in color with cloth interior. (Couldn't be more rental car fleet with a miracle)
$7700 is full boat retail. Cars like these (base Malibus) are a dime a dozen and are in every rental car fleet in the nation. The same car would see $3500-4000 at auction...by the time you transport it, shop it, detail it, it's really a $5,000/5,500 car, in my opinion.
The warranty (Major Guard) has about a $550 cost - you be the judge on that one. If you get an extended warranty, the only way to go is GM - no hinky "Joe's Used Car Warranties and Shoe Repair" contracts.
If Terry misses you , just repost . So simple even a preschooler could understand it.
Sorry to interrupt the regularly scheduled programing but this guy was rude.
Thank you everyone, and especially Terry.
Talking of which, Terry is there anyway we can help you turn the service you provide here into some form of business.
Just a thought.
Congrats, You did fine on your deal and enjoy your FX ... another business I don't need, actually I'm more on the path of weaning myself from a business end, and more into the enjoyment end ~ you live longer ......
Terry.
Depending on the area, the rubber, the service records, the brakes, the paintwork, the color, condition and who your dating, then trade side it's probably worth in and around the $3's, the low $3's, maybe .. 164k, have you tried a different dating service.?
Terry.
If it's a nice one, deep sneakers, no KFC hiding under the seats, no collisions with the snow plows .. then trade side, in and around the high $19's, could see the low $20ish figure with all the snow you guys have been getting .......
Good luck and let me know ..
Terry.
Here's the complete rundown:
1989 Volvo 740 GL, non turbo 5 speed (!)
Tan over black leather, 136k miles.
The usual stuff like slider, plus an aftermarket Blaupunkt CD player. 5k on Bridgestones, all maintenance history since new. New-ish brakes on new Brembo rotors. Leather's in near-perfect shape, the dash and headliner, not so much. It's had paintwork (it was rear-ended before I owned it...not enough for a salvage title or even the Iowa damage disclosure statement; excellent repair, but the paint is starting to fade differently than the factory paint.)
1. You must learn to pronounce the name of the city. It is "Hue-stun," not "Ewe-ston," and definitely not "How-ston." The street named San Felipe is pronounced "San fe-LEE-pay," not "San Fi-LEEP" or "San Fay-LEE-pee."
2. Forget any traffic rules you learned anywhere else. Houston has its own version of traffic rules. They are called "Hold On And Pray." There is no such thing as a high-speed chase in Houston. We all drive like that.
3. All directions start with "Go down to Loop 610," which has no beginning and no end.
4. You have the East, Katy, Southwest, North, South, Northwest, and Eastex freeways, which are actually I-10 East, I-10 West, 59 North, 59 South, I-45 North, I-45 South, and 290, but not in that order. Your job is to figure out which one you really want to get on, without any signs to tell you. God help you if you are in the wrong lane, or you will go around Loop 610 again, which is an endless circle.
5. The Chamber of Commerce calls getting through traffic "a"scenic drive." It is if you love seeing wrecks and people risking their lives changing tires, running through pot holes, slamming on your brakes to avoid a collision, having people cut you off, seeing alot of people's middle fingers, and exhaust fumes.
6. The morning rush hour is from 5:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The noon-hour rush is 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The evening rush hour is 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., sometimes 9:00 p.m. (or 3 a.m. during floods, which we call "ponding"). The teenagers take the streets from 9:00 p.m. through 5:00 a.m., and Friday's rush hour starts on Thursday morning.
7. If you actually stop at a yellow light, you WILL be rear ended, or at least cussed out, and/or possibly shot. When you are the first off the starting line, count to 5 before moving when the light turns green, to avoid being "T-boned" by crossing traffic.
8. Construction on every freeway, loop, and tollway in the city is a permanent form of entertainment as well as a source of delays.
9. Kuykendahl Road can be pronounced ONLY by a native Houstonian. (It is pronounced "Kirk-n-doll.")
10. All unexplained smells are accompanied by the phrase "Oh, we must be near Pasadena."
11. If someone actually has his turn signal on, it is probably a factory defect and should be ignored.
12. All Suburbans have the right-of-way, unless you are driving an 18-wheeler or perhaps a Bradley tank.
13. The minimum acceptable speed limit on Loop 610 is 85 mph. Otherwise, you will be stopped by Houston's Finest for impeding the flow of traffic.
14. The wrought-iron bars on windows in East Houston are NOT ornamental.
15. Never honk at the driver of a car with a bumper sticker that says, "Keep honking. I'm reloading." In fact, don't honk at anyone.
16. If you are in the left lane, and going only 70 mph in a 60 mph zone, the people who are passing you are not really waving at you.
17. If it is 100 degrees outside, then January 1st must be next weekend.
18. The Sam Houston Toll Road is Houston's daily version of a NASCAR race.
19. When in doubt, remember that all unmarked exits lead to the state of Louisiana.
20. Don't get on Main Street unless you really WANT to be on Main Street. Left turns and right turns are not allowed between the South Loop and Dallas (that's Dallas, Texas, not Dallas Street).
21. Don't get sick or injured. There are no parking spaces in the Texas Medical Center for anyone but doctors.
22. You don't have to wait for an exit to get off the freeways. Just follow the ruts in the grass to the frontage road like everyone else. This is how Houston residents notify the Texas Department of Transportation where exits should have been built in the first place.

A coworker is thinking of selling his car. We are located in Tampa, FL.
Here are the details:
47k miles – warranty good until 55K.
Black with tan leather interior. No dents or dings, never in an accident or a fender bender (no repaints), paint is glossy. French fries and other fast food goodies have not yet invaded the interior.
Auto/steptronic transmission.
Has a moonrooff, CD player, auto everything. (I think it has the premium package). Standard alloy wheels.
I hope I did not miss anything!
I am wondering what you peg as the trade-in value, and the retail-road value.
Thanks!
