Sorry, probably it is too soon for repost, may be I should have asked Terry earlier to give him some time... Going to the dealership tomorrow morning, so Terry, in case you got sleepless Friday night or early Saturday morning, your opinion (read "your verdict") would be really appreciated.

Could you give me trade-in value for this car:

    Location: Twin Cities, MN

Model: 2004 Honda Accord LX V6
    Style: 4-dr Sedan
    Engine/Trans: V6 3.0/auto
    Mileage: 23600
    Color: Silver metallic, black interior

    Dealer-installed option: alloy wheels

It has a tiny flaw on the rear bumper, looks like someone with metal bumper touched it doing parallel parking. It is noticeable yet. Otherwise it is clean and nicely running vehicle, with all service done on the dealership.

And I forgot to mention it last time: the windshield is replaced. Not sure if it affects the price.

No Chainsaw massacre's, no K-mart collisions, no KFC and no paint by numbers ~ just a nice one with no problems..? ... if so, then the dealer probably dropped the mid/tall $17's in it, might have been a brave Hiawatha and gambled at the low low low low $18's ..... whats he asking.??

    Hi Terry,

Thank you very much for your response! They offered me 15,500 and no further negotiations. Probably I would accept it, however we could not find common ground on the price of the car I was going to buy. They give me advice to try it again late summer, when new model year cars start hitting the lot, so they could give me better deal on 2005 one.

    Thanks again!

I am wondering how the tax credit really works? I am not sure if you remember, but the dealer gave me a trade in value of 12,000 for an 04 civic EX. He is now saying that with the tax credit, it will really work out to be 13,300 for the trade in? Something about since I paid my tax on one car, then they will not charge me for it on another car if I trade in my civic, therefore they say that they are saving me 1,300. Does this sound right?

This time, we're off to Naw Jersey before Kyfdx has a friggin' stroke ... see what happens when you get Bimmer brain.? ..l.o.l........

It's a 98 Bimmer M3 4 type door .... we got some miles going on here .. it's "thee" right color, of course we got that movin' around thing between the seats, HK, cold pack, rubber is kinda weak, slider and you say it's in pretty good shape (no such thing as "excellent", unless you're drivin' a 05 646Ci convert with 1,800 miles) ...

If, this bad boy is cleaner than the Board of Health and twice as sanitary, paint is day-glo, service is 110%, seats been hovered in, and it's been covered by a hand crafted Amish blanket since day one ... then trade side, in and around the mid/tall $8's, might "maybe" see the low/mid $9's if it's super clean and it needs -0- ..if it needs stuff, start deducting ...... down Retail Rd, finish the service, drop some new round things on it, call the bad boy detailer, have all the service records stuck to the ceiling, drop a nice 5/6 liner Ad in the "big" paper: $13,900 *asking* and cut and run at the first $12,5/$13,5 ..... don't get too greedy, the books show big numbers, but unless it has 50/60k, you won't see a dime of it .........

    Updates are Mandatory ...!

I just saw Terry's $$ #'s on this....it "could" be a great car for a potential buyer. But, how much repairs, service, etc. have you had done on this? "Average", or do you have receipts "up the wazoo" for every little thing? New shocks, preventative E-36 M3 maintainence, zymol & oil changes every 15 seconds, etc. could help you get top $$ privately--but used bmw buyers for a car like this can be....worse than Martha Stewart inspecting your kitchen. And the high miles don't help; it would have to be truly exceptional to get a couple thousand$$ extra. If it's "average", I'd just trade it, if you can.
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
What is your tax rate? If it is 10% then the tax savings on a 12,000 trade in would be 1200. If your taxes are high enough that is is 1300 I'd move.

Your number was high 26s low to mid 27s. They're hitting me at 25,000. I don't want to be difficult since I work here, but I think someone is getting a little greedy.

    Hey Terry,
I see you are at the helm so I wanted to repost this and see if you had a rough estimate for me. I have something like 3 weeks left in Iraq and I am being told that the Pacifica is either going or we are buying a cheaper car for my wife to rivde the kids around in. Pacifica values do not look good so I think I might drive it if the value is too low.

    Thanks for all the help
    Capt. Phil
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----
Okay, so my wife does not like her 2004 Pacifica anymore and we want to trade it in. Here are the details:

    Location: Oklahoma City, OK
    Year/Make/Model: 2004 Chrysler Pacifica
    Body Style: wagon
    Engine: 3.5 liter with auto
    Driveline: AWD
    Mileage: ~27,000
    Color: Silver/ Light grey leather
    Major Options: Leather
    Condition:
1 small ding on the rear passenger door the size of a Sharpie pen point but otherwise it's awesome and clean. It's a typical careless door ding.
    Interior is in excellent shape.
    45% worn
All Maintenance done at Chrysler dealer

Other: Warranty repaint by Chrysler due to bad original paint quality. It was also rear-ended which meant a new bumper and tailgate sheet metal. The rear window was intact along with the tail lights so it wasn't a bad hit but it was a hit.

This was one of the first Pacificas that came with loads of stuff right out of the door. It does not have the sunroof or chrome wheels or DVD/Nav but it has everything else.

I was offered $21,000 in May of 2004 but I just couldn't stomach turning it in for a lesser car and being ~4K under.

I will be turning the vehicle in some time in the summer (I'm in Iraq right now) but I really don't want to lose too much on it. My wife dislikes the blind spots and they are so bad, in her view, that the car must go.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Capt. Phil

I can help you out. When you bought your trade you paid sales tax on it so when you trade it in you get a credit for its value.eg. Your new car costs $20000 and your trade is worth $10000, you only pay tax on $10000 or the trade difference. An easy way to figure it is take your trade value and multiply your tax rate. That is your tax savings. You have to take that into account if you are going to sell your car outright. If you get a $1500 tax credit but you neighbor will give you $1000 more than the dealer, you will lose $500. Good Luck

Capt. Phil, I didn't see the military part til' now .... "Any help will be greatly appreciated" ----

... Any help.?? Your kidding , right.? ....

I just wanted to say: between you and all of our brave ladies and men over in Irag, and every place in-between, THANK YOU ...!!!

If it wasn't for brave souls like you and yours, there wouldn't be any Edmunds, or these discussions .. or the Freedom to buy what Americans want to buy .. and we would all be driving 1938 Fords, living in refrigerator boxes and speaking another language --- God Bless.!

Now, back to our regular scheduled programming in Oklahoma ..

We have a 04 Chrysler Pacifica AWD ... the miles are a little tall for the year, good color for the area, leather, we have some factory paint and some: "let's play doggems" to the rear bumper, these came with all the stuff, but no slider and no Disney package (no big deal) ..... trade side, depending on the dealer, in and around the super tall $18's low/mid $19's .. keep all of factory paperwork on the paint, this way (if they ask) you can show the warranty ..

Maybe consider Retail Rd - finish any service, superb detail, Glorious Fat Daddy Ad in the Big Oky paper, $22,900 *asking* and cut that dude loose for the first $21,5/$22,5 ....

Happy hunting, stay low and don't forget to let me know what happens.!

Anyone think something might be wrong with this vehicle? Price is low compared to other like Dakotas on autotrader.

    http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=180117833

It's a 2003 Dodge Dakota STX, 6 cyl, just under 30K miles, 2WD, auto, minor dings on driver's door, black ext. color, located in Orlando Florida, $10500.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
......... Ya can't miss the "minor dings on driver's door" ..l.o.l..... and maybe it's just the light or the angle, but the the tail pipe is a little rusted for a Orlando vehicle .....(?)

If all is well ... then the dealer probably paid $8/$8,5ish for it ..

Mike .... It's black - in Florida - in May .... probably take $9,5/$9,9 just to get it off his lot .. did I mention, it's black..??

Needs a new EGR valve, which means check engine light on continuous, and air conditioning compressor. Any idea what retail might be? I just leased a new truck, and need to sell this.

    In metro Detroit

Until you get the check engine light fixed, you might see $1000 and it may take a long time to sell.
Fix the check engine light, finish any remaining maintenance, get an inspection report on the vehicle mechanical condition and have it on the seat, then: Asking $3500-$3900 and $2,000-$3000 finds it a new home (depending on condition which varies a lot with those high miles) and assuming everything works A1.

Do not forget it has the notorious Mopar tranny reputation.

    Hi, Terry...

I enjoy reading your "funny" and informative replies...

I have 1999 Toyota Camry CE Green w/grey int in San Diego, CA

It has a whopping 131k miles but as everyone says it's in excellent mechanical condition. Minor dings (2-3 on each side) w/a slight crack (2 inches) in the rear bumper. Power windows and locks. Aftermarket Sony CD w/mp3 and interior is very clean. 1 year old Michellin tires and brakes, timing belt, and water pump changed recently (6mo-1year). No other damage, original paint. Oh, one more thing, the rear driver side windows does not work, and front driver side windows rolls down well but comes back up slowly.

What is the trade in value and private sale price? I've seen 5900 to 8900 on Autotrader but I'm sure mine won't fetch that much...

Your expert help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Yrneh

    .............. Now here's a guy that needs a better dating service ..l.o.l....

It's a 2wd, now's the time .. in your area 4/5 weeks ago, you couldn't give that dude away with a winning lottery ticket .... it's an SE Ecab, miles are kinda low, good color, quads and we have those cute little chrome step bars ....

If it's "CLEAN", no K Mart collisions, no paint by numbers, no chemistry experiments in the interior, just a nice one .... then trade side, in and around the mid/tall $18's, "maybe" the low/ mid $19's if it's really a nice one ....

Good luck -- and let me know ...!

    Thanks Terry,
It's actually 9000 miles.sorry for the brain lock....

, Just wondering what it's worth, Having the brake issues that all of them seem to have, also the a.c. is acting weird. Probably made a mistake, should have a bought a Tundra??

....... Nine thousand miles ............. ...l.o.l... I got it the first time around ....

They've had some problems, no doubt about it ....

People can knock all of the Detroit metal all they want -- but there's 80 kabillion Chevy/Ford/Dodge's trucks out there with 175/225/250k++ .... that said, the Tundra is a great truck, it may not tow my boat, but still a great vehicle .. besides, I'm from the old school and not a big purvayer of all of the hype from the auto mags, I'm in service departments, they're not -- let someone else be the Guinea Pig for the first few years while I watch ...l.o.l....

Not trying to defend Nissan, but thats a tuff tuff tuff market to break into, but I feel confident they can work it out in the next 12/15 months (I hope) ......

"Luck" and let me know what happens .............. :shades:

..... **Buying a 05 Accord in Northwest Ohio and will trade in either an 01 very good condition Sand Mica Mazda MPV LX 57,000 miles with roof rack, fogs, and rear air as the added options or an 04 brand new condition, automatic, Redfire Metallic Mazda6S (6 cyl) with 7,900 miles with a power driver seat being the only option.
What can I expect to receive on trade on these two Mazdas?** ..
    =====================================

Question: why are you trading the 7,900 mile Mazda 6 for an Accord..?

In Clevesburg ... we have a 01 Mazda MPV LX, we have 57k, the color is right, we have the rear breeze, we have the rack and some foggers .... If ~ the rubber is deep, the service is from yesterday, no soccer Mom interior and it hasn't hit every pothole and salt truck in the NE ... then trade side, in and around the super tall $7's low/mid $8's, might "maybe" get super lucky and see a dealer waddle towards the $9 figure if it's reeeeal nice, glows in the dark and it needs -0- ... if it needs stuff, start deducting .......

    The "6" ..?? ..... auto ..? 4dr...? Wagon ...?? .. auto ...? ........... handshaker .??????

Hellooooooo, is this thing on...??? ... DESCRIPTION.!
