Put it up for sale on contour.org. I helped start that site back in 1997 when I bought my first Contour. I sold my 2000 SVT back in 2002, with 45k miles and got $15k for it after only paying $18,6k to begin with. Not a valid comparison, but gives you an idea of the high dollar enthusiasts are sometimes willing to pay for one *IF* (big IF) it's in nice condition. A lot of these guys are looking for stock cars like yours for project cars. The accident is going to hold you back some though. Still, I would expect to fetch $5-7k for a car like this.
Like my Great Grand Daddy used to say: "even a blind squirell can't find a nut on any given day" ...
thanks for the update ...
Terry.
====================================
Good advice given here .... if you can get $7/$8,000 for it, I would be doing hand flips ... 88k is lots of miles on any vehicle, even a SVT ........

Thats called "humor" .................
Thanks for the update ......

Dealer offered $7,000 trade, but the price on the new Subaru was too high.

2000 Subaru Outback limited wagon
2.5 4cyl automatic
AWD
129,000 BIG MILES
Color: Winestone (dark red)
Usual limited options: leather, sunroofs, cd player and subwoofer.
Good condition. One owner. Interior has some wear. A small tear in the rear seat and a few scratches on the inside (big dogs). Outside has the usual parking lot scratches/dings. Nothing major. New tires, brakes good, complete maintenance.
Two minor accidents. Rear hatch and bumper cover replaced after being rear-ended, and a small ding in a rear quarter panel from a mail box repaired.
Thanks.

Where's the good news ........?
... it's got GIANT miles and it's hit everything "but" Joe Lewis .... Subaru's are renowned for the great resale value .... if you can get $7,000 for it (real money) with 130,000 miles, then you need to be there and not reading this silly post ..

Carfax clean, one owner from KY, corporate lease
82k (!) miles (there's the rub--haven't seen the tires, service records, etc. Maybe it needs service?)
The price, even with those miles, seems really low (these were $60k new, right?). I'm not thrilled with an 82k Mercedes, but her old one has 4xxk and it doesn't seem to bother her, so? Please give me some numbers and maybe I'll be right. I'll keep you posted. Thanks!! ..**

I'm not too crazy about hi miler Bimmers, Benz's or Audi's unless they have a CPO ...

2 door hatchback
5-speed manual transmission (only way the SI comes)
2.0L 4 cylinder engine
40,100 miles
Color: Blue exterior/black interior
Options: Power windows, power locks, power mirrors, sunroof, alloy wheels, ABS, keyless entry, AC, and CD player.
Condition: Interior is spotless. Really could pass for new as this car was adult driven without frequent passengers.
Exterior was great with the exception of a slight 4" dent on the hood caused by flying parts from a car that ran a stop sign and hit a concrete median. Other than that there are no scratches, dings, or prior damage.
Mechanican condition: Excellent. All oil changes done on time. Tires are stock Michelins with 5,000 miles on them (we took the aftermarket wheels off before we sold it). During the 40,000 miles we owned it all that went wrong was a fuel sending unit (replaced under warranty) and the light bulb for the cruise control switch was replaced.
Sold it to Carmax for $11,000.

Up there in Hotfurd ....... we have an 03 BMW 325xi .. we got the auto thing, short miles, good color combo, Prem pack, tunes, bun warmers and the rear balloons ...... "outstanding".? .. you sound like Martha Stewart .....
If ~ it's clean to the bone, knee deep in rubber, service is from yesterday, seats look hovered in, no paint by numbers, no curb burners and it looks feels and drives like an 05 ...... then trade side, in and around the super tall $21's low/mid $22's ..... the auto, the Xi stuff and the low miles save this one ...
Terry.
That's the point .. $7,000 ~is~ a retail figure ... if you can get a dealer to give you $7,000 (hard money) on a trade, then you need to be there .....
I'm not knockin' the vehicle or the miles cuz' I've seen a Kazillion Subu's with 130/170/200,000++ miles, and they still sell .. too who I don't know, it's a Yankee thing ...... the only advantage you might have here is the area - Portland .... it gets back to a super a service, deep sneaks, a Fat Daddy Ad, a potpourri of nice pics and maybe $9,900 *asking* and cut it loose for anything that looks like American money ....... no tax break in Oregon, right..?

1996 Ford Explorer XL

2dr (yes, a 2 door)
FWD, Auto
128K BIG miles (dare I say, mostly highway, lol)
Black exterior/beige interior
Power windows/locks
Condition: Some parking lot kisses but generally okay. Interior has transported a 1 year-old and the rear seat looks it. Current problem - won't idle without the driver pumping the accelerator. Mechanic says it'll cost $1600 to repair (replace catalytic converter and four O2 sensors).
What's the bad news?
12k, XM radio, auto, sunroof. No dings, rubber is what it should be for low miles.

My family is about to grow...need some thing a bit bigger!
Thanks!
He pegged it at mid-high 14s recently (and about the same a few months back). But, the best I have been offered has been 13K (In sept. against a new Civic), and my recent forays into the land of new cars netted offers of about 12.5Kish.
I really wouldn't expect more than about 14K, assuming I was getting a good deal on the new one (so no overallowance), so there may not be an impulse buy in my near future.
Have one more dealer to visit tomorrow (Sube, where I already have a to the bone deal in place), so it will be interesting to see what they come out with.

Subie's do get crazy money in the NW. I don't understand buyers who go for high mileage/relatively new used cars.
Looks like lots of people coming out of Accords.....
Hello Terry,
Well, I am coming back to the answer man, because I have found you to be spot on in the past....................
I am looking to trade the following:
2004 Honda Accord V6-Desert Mist in color (champagne) with tan interior.
28,900 miles, new tires 2000 miles ago, no scratches, dents, repaints, seats REALLY do look hovered over, not sat in. Paint looks like the day I picked it up.
Automatic of course, rear spoiler, honda foglights, leather seats, all the standard EX V6 stuff, 3m clear bra on the front (yes, I know it does not add value, but I wanted to note it), honda wood trim.
I have a stack of records for everything ever done to the car, down to wiper blades..........
So, what is this thing worth in trade (looking at a Pilot), as well as if I tried to sell it private party.
Location is in Greensboro, NC.
Thanks in advance Terry, I always appreciate your input!
1997 Infiniti J30
125,000 miles

What should I expect to get if it's traded in?
THanks!

Greensboro.? ... I was in that area a few weeks ago, in Pinehurst actually .... "a bad day at golf is better than 3 good days at work" ...... who ever said that didn't have my slice ...l.o.l....
Anywaaaaay ....... we got this 04 Hooonda Accord V6 EX 4dr with 29k ... we got the auto thang, the right color, miles are kinda tall (probably drives to Pinehurst every weekend .l.o.l..) .. we got those foggers, spoiler, some do-dads like the wood and that 3M thingy-bob, we got new round things, you say it's been serviced and you have all the papers and history from day 1 and you say it's "nice" (good job) ..... trade side, in and around the mid/tall $18's, might maybe see a dealer travel into the low low low $19's - maybe ....
Retail Rd.? .. you guys get tax difference savings in NC, right ..? .. I don't think you would see more than that, because Honda will sell an V6 05 for invoiceish .....
let me know ..................
Terry.
And actually we do travel to the Pinehurst/Southern Pines area some (lol).
Great area to play golf (if you can hit better than me). I am average at best, but still like playing.
Let's see how the dealer does. Last time I looked, lots of Pilots sitting around on lots.
And yes, NC is trade difference only on taxes.
I apppreciate your input.
Will be in touch...............
Terry.
He also really enjoys Pinehurst #3.
I really like Stoney Creek between Burlington, NC and Greensboro off Hwy 40. But is a LOOOONG course...............I spend all day there saying, "if I could just hit it a little farther"........
Terry.
Sounds like a deal to me .... it's tumbleweed time and I would rather have my $$ in a $15,000 Lexus than paying the floorplan on a $36 anything ..... you did Good.!
Terry.
Will you please help me figure out my trade-in value for my 05 CRV-EX with 12,350 miles ?
Thanks,
Tenco
And don't forget your location; very important for any kind of 4WD vehicle.
-Mathias in MI, where it snowed another couple of inches last night.
I agree with woodyww that is an excellent analysis of car buying and its exactly what makes any car buying tough for me as well. I'm currently chomping at the bit to replace my Camry and having a hard time justifying getting something more "unnecessary" if you will.
thanks,

Seriously, just keep reposting. It'll happen eventually. He has a day job too I've heard...
I'd appreciate your input on this scenario.
I'm trying to trade-in my excellent 05 CRV-EX with 12,300 miles on it.
KBB reported on Dec12 FOR 12300 mi AT $19,050
Edmunds reported ON Dec 12 for 12000 mi $19,009
However, on Dec 5, I checked Edmunds appraisal for 13000 mi and is reporting 19,534 ??? Is this possible ???
Also, the Resale Values by Edmunds:
$16,236 - $20,200
I have been to 6 dealership now, no one is willing to give me $20,000 for my SUV. The best offer I'm getting is $18,500 or 18,000 at the most it is 17,500 or $17,000.
Why are dealer buying it so low and yet getting at least $4,000 when they put it on the Market
Your comments are very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Tenco
well, first off, this has been discussed to death.
2nd of all, why do you think they are "getting at least $4k"??
Do you know what they ultimately sell it for? no. you only know what the "asking price" is. after they buy it from you, they need to detail it, maybe certify it, etc. then, while its sitting there, they are paying floorplan on it, etc. And, in the end, mr. carbuyer gets them to knock $1k or $2k or whatever off the price. How much would you prefer they make on the car?
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S
Well............. maybe because they are in busines to make a profit. Buy low, sell high. It's not just the stock market! Where are you getting that they are making $4,000? I'm sure yours is perfect and needs nothing, but most cars nedd at least $4-500+ in reconditioning. And that's on the low side. Also they are probably going to discount it some when they sell it. They may make $2-3000 on it. That's how they stay in business.
Put all of your info about your CRV in this discussion and Terry will give you a #. You'll prolly need to sell it yourself to get the jack you are looking for. Plus, it may not be worth it because of tax savings.
Here's the details of my SUV. Let's start the ball rollin'

Did someone mention golf ....??
... did I hear the "swiiiiish" of a 460cc carbon driver smacking the heck out of a 430 dimple ball.? .. did I hear that sweet sound of a #4 hybrid iron whaling that little sucker 200 yrds and hitting the fringe of the green and rolling inside of 3 ft of the pin ... no.?? .. then lets talk car stuff ....
Raleigh ....? .. about 50 miles north of Pinehurst ..l.o.l...
I don't have any particular order of answering anything ... between my accordion lessons, getting into the Nationals with the Dog Dancing thing and getting my ballet shoes ready for the Christmas pageant I get tied-up ... so always REPOST, it's a good thing .. besides all that, I have the attention span of an aspharugus .... hmmm, what was I talkin' about.??
3 accidents ...? .. have you thought about dropping it off at one of the parking lots at Duke with the keys in it...? lots of bad Karma here ...... it's an 01 GMC Sierra half-ton Ecab SLE 4wd with 41k and some doors ... we got the Z package, auto, no hydes - no help, boards, cover, tunes, solar glass, good color combo and it's little light in the rubber department, but it probably weighs an extra 200lbs with all of the paint work ..l.o.l...

After hitting a few dealers, they were all consistant, so mid 12s seems to be the rack rate in this area for a trade.
I'll troll it out on retail road a bit (not exactly fun 10 days before Xmas, and during a cold snap), but I'm not expecting much to happen.
So, looks like no new car for Xmas, but at these prices, I could probably keep it another 6-12 months and get just about as much for it.
Or, I can wait for mid-winter and monitor the subvented lease market, looking for a deal too goof to pass up...
