    GL or GLS? I am not familiar with a GL2.

    If it's a GL, figure to be around $6,500 as a trade.. GLSs seem to be worth in and around $7500-8k.

    I am a tad conservative because, as Max said, Oldsmobiles can be funny vehicles to appraise. Even though GM is still around the car is considered to be an Orphan.. and some dealers are afraid of them.

    Right auction? A GLS with 47k could do way into the $9s.. but that's right sale with the right buyers....

    It is a GL not a GLS. My understanding is that the GX & GL1 are 4cyl, GL2 is V6, & GLS is V6 with sunroof and leather.

    I did have one honda dealer look at it and they came back at $6500 so it sounds like you are spot on. What do you think I could get private party?

    Sounds like you should be in the $10,500-11k range. Figure $13,900/bo range private party and $13k to actually "get".

    The CPO 05 530xi for $40k with 17k is a no-brainer. They must be desperate to sell it... The Non-CPO one is priced right too, but the CPO car is a steal.

    18s should be run-flats, they SUCK.

    I'd peg it around $3,500 myself.. a tough call, but a torn seat and scuffed bumpers are no help here.

    How bad is the seat??

    Might try a quick $6k/best offer on craigslist tho.

    Yeah but would YOU pay that? You know how it is, even at dealer auctions there are people who pay too much. My poor buddy overpaid on a 2005 MINI and it's epoxied to the parking lot right now. And he's pretty sharp. Sometimes you just reach a mite too far and I'm thinkin' $8K is my threshold of pain. :P

    If anyone could help with this just so I can get an idea of what to expect would be fantastic!
    We're looking to trade in a 2001 GMC Yukon SLE 4x4 with just under 108k miles. 5.3L engine, v8, running boards, towing package, third row seating. Interior is spotless and is beige. It's gold with only one area of damage (there is a bit of a scrape on the front wheel well of the passenger's side when my husband tried to squeeze it in a friend's tiny garage). It did recently have body work done on it b/c I was hit. They had to replace the bumper and a couple of the lights. All work is under warranty though from a very reputable repair shop and I have all of the paperwork for that. Oh, and we live outside of Louisville, KY. Tires aren't new but definetely have a ways to go before they need to be replaced. Let me know if there's any other info you need. This is very much appreciated!!! Thanks!

    I hate to jump into this late but can anyone explain to me the fee breakdown for a Manheim sale?
    Who pays the aution fee? The buyer... or the seller? Or both?
    Should the fee be rolled over into the price paid for the vehicle when the car is registered?

    Really? She actually bought her new car today. She's picking up her '07 Accord EXL-V6 on Wednesday or Friday next week. She got a great price for the Accord (leftover), but they gave her a hard time about her Jetta. They're giving her $4700 for it on a trade.

    Do you guys think she should try to sell privately?

    Was getting $14250 from kbb and $15100 from edmunds for excellent condition. Black Book online had even lower numbers of $10000 to $13000. Guess I won't be able to expect the higher numbers from a dealer trade-in.

    Absolutely - with the low miles and full equipment, just put in on craigslist at a realistic price and it'll be gone.

    Sounds like a truly ridiculous trade-in offer. They're thinking they'll make another $1500 to $2500 from selling the Jetta, if she bites.

    Whether she gets a good deal on the new car, & a terrible deal on the trade in, or vice-versa, it still amounts to a lousy deal for her.

    I remember the mint-condition low mileage Saab I tried to trade in at an Acura dlr. once. They went on & on about how awful it was, & finally said they'd give me Nothing! ($0) for it. I sold it privately for $6300.

    "Some" dealers will try anything on the customer to see if they can get away with it.....

    The Acura dealer she went to earlier in the day offered her $4000 for the car. The Honda dealer offered her $4300 at first, then when she said that they had to do better they countered with $4700. She just figured that was the going rate. I told her to take anything between $5K & $6K like you guys said. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks again for your help.

    As it sits, it sounds like a $7500ish truck to me.. Some damage and damage history, weakish color.. miles..etc.

    $10,900/bo in the Courier-Journal ought to find you a buyer tho..

    I'm looking for a replacement pickup for my '94 and saw a dealers ad for a black '04 Dakota SXT 4x4 club cab w/ 30k miles with CPO. Haven't seen the truck yet, but it looks clean in the pictures. It was a bit more than I was thinking of spending, and it's black, but having the CPO for another almost 4 yrs and 50k miles may make it worth the extra cost. According the the carfax, its a one owner and looks like the dealer has had it since the end of June so I think the price is a blowout as it is priced below other comparable trucks they have.

    I need to sell my old truck first. I doubt I'll get anything as a trade. What's a '94 dakota slt club cab w/ 148k miles in 'fair' shape, with warm air go for?

    I'd think that you ought to be able to buy that truck, Certified, for in and around the $14,500-15k figure.

    Miles really prop up this truck's value.. 30k is low as you know. Black is a good color.

    Now wait a second.. is this Chrysler Certified or Joe's Warranty company certified?

    As far as the 94 goes.. if it's clean, $2,900/bo in the local paper.. it's a $1,500 trade if it's perfect.. probably $800-1k.

    Either one was a very good deal, the CPO was a flat-out steal. That being said, buy what you LIKE. A great deal on a pink one is no deal if you hate it.

    Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I should jump on this deal as they are asking a little under 13k. And, I'm guessing they're not coming down anymore from that number at all. It's the Chrysler CPO, so that is what makes it appealing, especially at that price! Now, I wonder why its been sitting around since June?

    As for my trade, its far from perfect so I was going to sell it myself, but for grins and giggles may just bring it down and see what they'll give me for it. I was planning on listing it for 2499 and cross my fingers.

    One last question. It's been a few years since I purchased anything from a dealer. I've got a good idea what the DMV registration is, but what's the avg doc fees these days in No. NJ? I want to get a good handle on this so I can come up with a decent OTD number.

    Terry was here briefly several weeks ago after a long hiatus and then quickly vanished.

    Somebody else can better give you a hard number, but I've been following the market on these the past couple of weeks and have been surprised at how cheap they can be bought.

    I'm considering selling (probably to CarMax or similar) or trading in my Jeep and using the equity to buy another vehicle outright.

    I'm located near Jackson, Michigan.
    It's a 2004 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, 4.0L inline 6, 4 speed auto, 38K miles, yellow with black interior and soft top. It's in good clean condition, no off roading or modifications. No dents/dings, a few stone chips on grille, tires about 50%, soft top windows in good condtion. Accident-free with clean CarFax. I'm the original owner and have kept a notebook logging all gas stops and maintenance services performed.

    Edmunds lists the trade value at about 15.5K, private party of 16.8K and a retail of about 17.8K. The retail value seems consistent with advertised prices I'm seeing within about 75 miles.

    What do you really think it's worth?

    Hello guys,

    I bought this car last December, so it's been about 10 months. Because I figured out SUV is not my type, I am looking forward to trade-in and get a smaller premium car (Thinking about CPO 06 325i). Because redesigned CR-V is fairly new to the market, even KBB seems yet to have any info about trade-in value of this year's model. Edmunds does say, though, I can expect a little above 20k.

    It's EX AWD (Bought in MA, and will trade-in with NJ or NY dealer) with 19k miles on it. Very clean history as well as clean exterior and no modification of any kinds. Is $ 20k estimate on Edmunds fairly reasonable, or should I expect more or less?

    Thanks for the input! We would definately sell it, but my husband's schedule is crappy and I'm not about to go riding around with potential sellers! But maybe for a 3k difference we can figure something out.

    Bill is saying the black CPO is "a steal". I've blown off mint condition slightly used cars with black interiors or exteriors, & later regretted it. It can be tough to find a used car with the exact combination of CPO, colors, options, mileage & price that you want. My current (black) e39 5-series wagon--I didn't really want black again, but the price, mileage, condition, CPO, trade in offer, etc. was so compelling I went for it.

    Best car I've ever owned (knock wood).....& the black with tan leather looks really good IMO. Just my 2 cents,

    Just a heads-up to the person selling the 06 Legacy - Subaru has a Guaranteed Trade-in Program right now and some 06-07 owners are reporting crazy-high trade-in appraisals.

    One guy was offered $16,700 for a used Outback Sport SE. That's nuts, very close to a new car price.

    It may be worth seeing what that 06 Legacy is worth to Subaru, as that may make a couple of grand difference in what you can afford. Maybe upgrade to a turbo or a Limited, maybe both?

    I'm inquiring about the private and trade-in value of my maid's 11 year old Honda, which she's feels is in need of an upgrade.

    Condition:
    body free of all but a few dings (almost strange given the year), little to no scratches (at least that I can tell), **slight bubbling of paint around rear driver wheel well** - this is not the typical Honda wheel well orange rust; the paint is still in tact but indeed bubbled, immaculate inside (covers been on seats since new in '96 and cheap floor mats always have covered real floor mats)

    New-er Tires
    New-er Brakes
    New Water Pump and Timing belt

    I told her probably to expect around $1200 in trade or slightly lower...is that reasonable or am I off?

    What about private party? I'd hate to see her get taken advantage of.

    Surly if my son's college roommate got $650 on his poor shape 150,000 mile '96 Pontiac Sunfire GT Coupe in trade, she can do a little better with a '96 Honda.

    I'd like to get some opinions on what you all think would be a fair price for me to buy this car for that I've been considering...you've been spot-on in the past so here goes:

    '06 Chevy Impala SS (5.3L V8)
    Silver with grey leather
    7k miles
    Sunroof, Bose sound
    One owner, GM Certified car.
    Tire wear consistent with the mileage. No dents/dings. One thin 8" scratch near the gas cap, might compound out. No interior stains/smells.
    For sale at a GM dealer near York, PA. They've been sitting on it since May.
    Dealer admits the rear bumper was replaced/repainted due to an accident. Carfax shows a rear accident indicator. Paint looks to be a good match, I can't tell.

    They were asking $22,000 and I had them down to $19,800 with brief haggling...what's a fair price to take it home for?

    IIRC, the dealer was offering high 4s for it. My craigslist suggestion was coupled with a recommendation of a realistic price. Perhaps I should have been more specific but I thought the idea was to sell the thing, not try to get every last dollar out of it. My thought was to have an asking price in the very low 7s (tops) so that it would sell in the 6000 to 6500 range immediately.
