Galves is $13900 but MMR is $17k on a car like this..

So what wins? I mean, take that 135 in CT, for example. MMR is $20k but Galves is $18k. They are advertising it for $21,500. Compared to MMR, that's cheap, but compared to Galves, they still have some wiggle room.

So, in the case of this 328, should he really pay based on the MMR number?

I've preached this before, but IMHO, just because a dealer has more into a car doesn't mean I have to bail them out. I need to worry about what I'll be hit with at trade time, which is Galves. So I'm not going over $17k on that 328 if I'm buying it here in NJ.

Does it matter in the end? No. A dealer won't go lower than they want to. And I'm not going to go higher than I want to. So it all works out.

2005 Honda Odyssey EX-L (no res). light blueish silver.

68K on it now. Good tires still. never any body work, but the usual assortment of scratches and dings a minivan accumulates, but it should detail up pretty well. Even has a Honda OEM trainer hitch (but no wiring, only ever had a bike rack on it).

What would this bring on trade? Planning to wait until next year this time, but all this talk has me wanting to go looking!

2005 Accord EX-L (yeah, we had a thing in 2005 for Honda EX-Ls). 65K on this baby.

silver over black leather (hence the L). 4 cyl. 5 speed manual (of course) so a rare bird. never any body work, but I should replace the front bumper skin (so price as if it was done).

tires replaced, and overall very clean.

Ok... Figure about $8k. With that bumper and the handshaker, that might even be a stretch. Don't be surprised to hear $7k come out.

I want the price on the odyssey too. that is the one that could actually go in reality (not my fantasy land).

More likely to keep the accord for my kid. And if I do sell, guaranteed it is going to be a private sale.

Of course, the wife rattled off the brands she wanted (still haven;'t given up on Ford and Mazda!), and they seemed to consist of MB, BMW, Volvo and maybe Lexus.

SO IOW she will be driving a ratty minivan for a long, long time.

Though that would give me the shot to skate in and snag the upgrade (she would like a 1 series, right?)

Q, could you give me the value of the wife's 2005 Mazda3 s please? It's a slushbox just about to turn over to 100k, the usual S goodies. Private might be the best way to go with this puppy actually. New sneakers and a/c recently fixed, which might appeal to a dealer, but they'd most likely send it straight to auction. A very reliable ride so far.

sedan, yes? With 100 big ones, it hasn't changed all that much. You might still push to $5k. $4500 would probably be closer. Add $250 if it has a moonroof.

If memory serves, the third rows in the non-XL Yukon and the Acadia are pretty tight. I agree with the minivan recommendation.

Well, we would only use the 3rd row for the kids. The key is that the 3rd row is easily accessible in the Yukon and Acadia with the fold up/sliding seats. The X5 is terrible for this and makes the 3rd row useless. Certainly cannot fit a booster/baby seat back there.

I think we just got caught up with how awesome everything else was on the X5. Its an amazing SUV, its just to small though.

Not really "easily" accessible. Maybe for kids that don't mind climbing around like monkeys. Adults climbing back there to hook a kid into a baby seat? Pass. From a driving standpoing the Yukon and X5 couldn't be further apart. Acadia...better but not nearly as roomy and cargo space with the 3rd row up is not that impressive compared to a van or Yukon XL/Suburban. But if you're willing to sacrifice so you're not seen in a minivan, by all means be as vein as you like.

-Someone that traded a Suburban for a "mini"-van.

I don't have anything against a minivan specifically, I just would really like to get some sort of SUV/crossover if at all possible. We have 2 kids and would like to be able to take 2 more people with us when we go somewhere. We will need to tow on weekends sometimes as well.

Hoping I can still get an estimate on here at some point too.

Suck it up man!! We said no to a minivan and then saw the light. The perfect vehicle for a family. We've had an Odyssey for almost 12 years and it's been replaced by a new Explorer now that the kids are bigger.

That Odyssey has been camping, biking, skiing, to school, to lacrosse tournaments, to gymnastics meets, to Home Depot, down fire trails, to christmas tree farms....it never missed a beat. She's a little older and a little tired and has a few minor scrapes but she's stilling willing to do what we ask of her.

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about either - buy what you want. I mean, if you came in here with the same story and said you wanted to buy a SMART car, hey, knock yourself out. As far as I'm concerned, figuring out how you can fit people/gear is your problem. I'm sure others were just trying to give you friendly advice, though.

Patience on the value... sometimes it takes awhile for those in-the-know to see your post and give a reasonable evaluation.

Galves isn't even giving me a value. Only a few have crossed the auction block, and only 1 on the west coast that I can see. That one had only 5k miles and reached $76k. Soooo... I dunnooo.... shot in the dark says like $72-$73k?

well, you are referring to the current payoff and not the lease-end buyout, right? I don't know how far you are into your lease, but assuming its something like 18 months on a 36-month lease, you have 18 payments remaining, all of which you owe .... sooo... I dunno... let's say its $1200 each ... that's $21,600 PLUS your lease-end buyout of ... I dunno... $57K? That's $78,600 you owe. If dealer is willing to pay $73k trade, then you have to cough up that $5600 difference.

Of course, just an example using imaginary numbers.

Odds of being in a postive equity situation with a lease are pretty much slim to none. But, heck, if you are positive, you have to let me know where you got that lease!

Unless you put down a boat-load for cap-cost up front (a bad idea regardless) you won't have equity in an early termination at this point. You normally need to be well into 2/3 of the lease before you can usually exit without losing your shirt. For reference, losing your shirt is completely subjective. You may be happy only losing $5k where someone else would find that appalling. My guess is you're well north of that figure but you'll need a number from BMW to verify.

And two adults...two kids... occasional trips with two more adults...you don't need anything bigger. Just deal on those trips and enjoy the vehicle the rest of the time. When most folks talk of needing more room it's for 3-4 kids plus stuff plus others and that's where the mini-vans and 'burbans come into play.

Or rent a 15-passenger van or take two vehicles on those trips. Either would be cheaper than trading the SUV, and like roadburner says, one could be committed for wanting to get rid of an X5 M sport. :P

You need to advertise this one on the VW boards. Manual transmissions on these are rare, and a manual V6 wagon is almost unheard of.

Edmunds private party is $3,889, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you could get at least $6,000 for it if you sell it privately, even with the door dings. Has it had a timing belt replacement lately?

If you put it on one of the VW enthusiast sites, I give it a 50% chance that someone will pay the full asking price and fly in from halfway across the country to drive it home.

My payoff is to close out the lease and get the pink slip on the car. This amount is 66k. If I can even get 70 from a dealer I think I am going to do ok right?

well if you get 70 and owe 66-you are obviously 4k to the good-however you still need to make the remaining lease payments as well which I think you said are 18.Bottom line if your 18 remaining payments are less than 4k you're ok.

As others have stated-it will be a lot cheaper to stay with the BMW and rent a Tahoe when you need it.

66k is the current payoff or the residual value listed on your lease documents? If you've called BMWFS to get a current payoff, and that number is 66k, you may be okay.

As a trade, you'd be at $1500 ... maybe $2k if you overpay on the next vehicle.

Agree absolutely with selling it privately. All those service records will mean something in that situation. Advertise it for $6k and I wouldn't be surprised you see $5k in a matter of no time. And if time passes, let someone twist your arm to the tune of $4k. Still a hefty number over that $1500.

This is a toughie without knowing what happened.

If it was, say, a bumper cover and the Carfax doesnt show a hit.. maybe mid to upper 8s.

If it had any structural damage (Rad support mount, inner fender) you could be as low as $6500-7k.

I skipped ahead of some of the replies, but I think $69k kills it dead myself. 19k is kind of fat for a 2011... Maybe to a BMW store you might see $70-71k.. but expect upper 60s from most anywhere else. Your local Chevy/GMC store is going to have to find it a home and that's a volatile vehicle to own.

Trade-in probably like what Q said, $1500-2k, Galves is $1750 after mileage punishment.

But as others have said, this is a car to dispose of via a private sale.. list it on vwvortex and craigslist.

$66,364 is my full payoff. This amount goes down to $58,764 if I choose to let them keep my $7800 deposit. I did 8 months of payment up front to drop my lease factor my almost a full point. I also got a great residual on the 36m lease for that month since I custom ordered.

So my thought was if I could get 70k, I would actually be up about 4k and only out the 1 year of payments that I made. (since I would be getting my deposit back)

Get the Honda nuveau-hippie van, or the Toyota Swagger Wagon, or the Dodge Sport Wagon. :shades:

I used to say the same thing, then broke down and got one, and I love it. Not that it's enjoyable to drive, but it is USEFUL to no end, comfortable as your favorite couch, costs next to nothing to own and operate, never complains, and gets great gas mileage.

In fact I bet my Sienna + Miata combination cost less overall than a Yukon XL does. Get a van and a sports car.

These vans enclosed pickups can even haul 4'x8' sheets of plywood inside, hatch closed.

Best of luck! The price I gave was just a wild guess, but the main point is that you will probably find a VW acolyte who is willing to pay an insane price for a rare configuration (V6, manual, wagon).

Hey, Bill, I'm throwing this out here for fun. It has been on there for a little while now and it keeps calling to me. The worn steering wheel and grease stains on the engine give me a bit of pause. I'm curious if you know anything about these or what you think of it. It is a manual trans, so that eliminates the one big weak point on these that I know of so far.
