Have to go to a DB7 for that price range, and I think the maser is prettier than that, plus the Aston has a joke of a backseat.

Still looking for a new to me van at a local Toyota Dealer.
    Massachusetts
    2008 Toyota Sienna XLE
    FWD
    Mileage: 46000
Light Blue with Gray leather ---no nav & no dvd
    alloys, moonroof,

Other: Clean Carfax although the tailgate looks to have a couple of small dents
According to Carfax dealer has had van for almost 6 months.

Dealer had this as a cpo a while back and was asking over 23.
Dealer removed CPO and dropped price to 21475 a few weeks ago and now has dropped price to $20K.

How much would a CPO add to the price?
    Any thoughts about van?

Well, hell, Galves hits that at $19,500 trade-in value. And that aligns pretty well with auction values, which seem to be around $19k with miles in the 40s.

If everything checks out, it seems like a heck of a deal for you at the current asking price.

I can't help you on the CPO front. I'm surprised they could take it off, frankly. I don't deal with Toyota, but other dealers of other brands have always claimed that, once a car is CPO'd, they can't un-CPO it because "the system just doesn't work that way."

Not the most popular color by a long shot and most folks want at least the DVD in the higher-end models. Sounds like it could be a good deal for the right person.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
FWIW those were about $29k when new.

With DVD and Navi they ran about $33k.

At least those were some of the better prices we saw back then (I have an 07).
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736
Right. No DVD and no moonroof is why they have been stuck with it.

They should have put an aftermarket DVD. Back then a 9" one installed ran $600. I got a big 12"er and paid $900.

I'm sure I'd get more than half back at resale, too.
  • dillydilldillydill Member Posts: 118
Wow. . .I thought all XLE's had a moonroof. Looking back at ad. . .I don't see one. . .and it's hard to tell from the pictures.

    Thanks.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736
apparently they didn't even have leather standard. So its a pretty odd duck in that leather was added as an option, but no moonroof.

The '03 looks nice. super low miles. Worth $8k trade. $10,500 should do it. $11k if you just gotta have it. Sure you can live with the auto? edit: ah, I see on CCBA that its for your daughter ultimately.

No cold weather pack on that '04, huh? Well, that's worth about $5500-$6k with the mega miles. So figure $7500 private party should be the limit.

by the way, the links to autotrader work if you cut them off right after the car id. like so: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=u&car_id=307599573

The '03 has leather and power seats, but no premium package and no heated seats.. That color is Steel Blue, not Mystic Blue as stated in the ad..

The '04 seems similarly equipped, but does have xenons.. Mileage isn't that high for an 8-yr-old car...

thanks. for the driving I do now, and factoring in the kid, I don't mind the AT (though I might need a new screen name!)

Besides, I will be back looking for a spare car of some kind next year (when she can solo), and that will give me an opportunity to get another manual trans.

I have Monday off. The '03 is nearby (the '04 would be a pain to go see, but sounds like he could have it for a long time).

My daughter of course liked the color on the '04 better. Picky kid, but I think she can live if it ultimately upgrades her to a BMW!

hey, you priced my accord last week and hit ~7-8 trade thanks to the stick. WIth 66K on it, what do you see as reasonable/realistic on a private sale?

I know stick drivers are a cult these days, but it is a Honda, with pretty low miles, so someone will bite!

    think 10k is easily achievable?

I don't really care about the premium pack. As long as it has the power seats and the moonroof, the wood trim and auto CC I can live without (actually prefer no auto temp).

Not sure what else was in the premium back then, but it has what I want. Maybe can knock the price down.

heated seats are good to have, but again, not really a deal breaker here.

IIRC, premium package has self-dimming mirrors, power lumbar, rain-sensing wipers..... along with leather and power seats... Of course, you can get most of those things ala carte.. Hard to keep up with it, because what's standard and/or included in premium changes every year, and is different between the 325i and 330i....

We had an '03 Steel Blue 325i, which is why I was familiar with that model..

I looked at the ad again. It does have wood trim and auto CC, so must have the premium package. I can't remember where the buttons are for the heated seats, so it may not have the climate package.

Heated seat buttons are on that black panel, just above the ashtray in the center stack.. Neither of those cars had them..

I can usually spot non-premium package cars by the lack of power lumbar controls, but now that I think of it, that might have been an X3 thing..

Checked out a couple of Sienna's this weekend. We looked at the 2008 XLE and no moonroof, and then a 2011 Sienna LE. Suprisingly my wife preferred the 2011. She didn't mind the cloth. She says she can close the trunk herself. She also likes the rearview camera, usb audio, and little seat stowaway for the 8th seat. . .So here goes another one. Thanks for your help.

    In Massachusetts,

    2011 Toyota Sienna LE
    32K miles
    FWD
    Dark Blue
    Clean Carfax
    Certified

It looks like a bunch of these are coming up from Florida auctions. At least, according to carfax. I assume these are rentals. Whaddya think?
  • sebring95sebring95 Member Posts: 3,241
A huge percentage of Sienna LE's on the road are rentals. Seem like a pretty good deal used compared to what the higher end models bring. I'm never a big fan of buying an ex-rental but I would say a minivan would be a better bet than a car. I know when I rent a van it's with a lot of pax and I'm not hammering it nearly as hard as when it's just me in a car.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736
Yeah, given the miles, I'd assume rental, too.

With those miles and details, I'd figure $18k trade value, giving you a $20k-$21k buy price. What are they asking for it?

There are a few options that could add value:
    8 person seating +$300
    power sliding doors +$800

    AWD would add $1100.

    '11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S

On this one with 32K miles, it says 8 Seats & power sliding doors, they are asking $22,977

This same toyota dealer has another one with 24K miles, 8 seats & power doors, asking $23,955.

Thanks again. I really appreciate it.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I can't see the links but I'll add my 2 cents' - these were likely used as shuttles for dealer service bays. Local dealers use them to give you a ride to the subway or home or wherever.

If so they'd likely be abused less than a rental that took a road trip out of town once a week, full of kids having food fights and parents who didn't care because they didn't own the car. :D
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736

? If they are certified, don't they already come with an extended warranty?

At the asking prices, the one with lower miles is a better value because it is worth $1500 more but they are asking only for $1k more.

The toyota certified vehicle comes with a 7/100K limited powertrain, but only a 12month/12K comprehensive.

Thanks so much for the information :)

Toyota certified already includes a 7/100k powertrain but only 1 year B2B. Should be dirt cheap to add the B2B portion at that point.

OK, last one for a while.

2005, 82K. Steel blue over beige (or maybe gray). Premium and climate so leather, heated seats, etc. Look very clean in the pictures. Claimed no paintwork or accidents.

I'm looking at dipping my toe in the bmw pond via a used model. any information on the following greatly appreciated (Location: Walnut Creek, CA):

    1) A 2004 BMW 325xi (AWD), 90K miles, black/black, cold weather pkg, avg-good condition. 2 owners, all maint records.

    2) A used (high mileage) 2002 540i M=Sport:

    http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=p&car_id=311751186&

    3) A similar condition 2002 540i M-Sport with 112K miles, new tires, all records.

All of these are private parties, I'm trying to figure out what I should reasonably offer. I am looking at the 325xi because the AWD would be nice for Tahoe (without slapping on snow chains), but the 540i's are tempting (through potentially expensive to maintain).

    Many thanks.

Ok, well, you are in CA, so my numbers may not be 100% accurate, but for cars this age, it won't be far off, if anything.

    1) if no premium and no sport and assuming its an automatic, it might fetch $7k-$7500 as a trade-in. So $9k is pretty fair private party. Maybe $9500 if it is real nice, maintenance up to date, good tires and brakes, etc.

    2) tough to tell much from those pics. Nice color. I don't see seat heaters. Also seems like it might be in need of tires. Might fetch $4k on trade. I probably wouldn't step over $6k on this one unless it is better than it first appears and the seller has a stack of paperwork detailing the service history.

    3) this one sounds better. About $2k more.

E39s have their faults, but they are also very reliable when cared for. Key thing you want to know is when the cooling system was last serviced. How old the radiator and water pump are. If the water pump has been upgraded to the metal impeller unit, even better.

Personally, I'd be all over #3 for $8k-$8500 vs the 325ix. Then again, I already made that choice. :)
My 540i sport has 148k miles and zero issues so far.

Thanks for the info qbrozen, I am leaning E39 as it seems a good introduction to BMW. I'll keep an eye out for the cooling system status. For whatever reason, there are a number of them around here. Two other 2002 options (at different price extremes) - not sure how much of a premium it's worth paying for the lower mileage assuming I can get (3) for 8-9K:

    4) Wondering how low I can go on http://www.bandxmotors.com/vehicle-details/e790abb3cfdd194a8f9ba924cccae83e/

    5) Pretty and right near my office, but priced dearly http://www.weatherfordbmwusedcars.com/oakland-used-2002-bmw-5-series-vid87789602- -36249

There are also some older (1998-2001) low mileage models floating around on craigslist, but I'm inclined to go for the 2002s, hoping more bugs have been worked out.

Anyway, I'll report back if/when I pull the trigger... thanks for your help.

    4) I hate when they can't even run a vacuum through the damned thing before taking pics. Looks like it has some blemishes on the front bumper and back of the driver's seat (crappy pics, so tough to tell), and I can't tell the condition of the tires. They might have anywhere from $8500-$9500 in it, depending on those little details. So your range is $10,500-$11,500.

    5) good grief. you ain't kiddin on that price. wow. those people have balls. It is lacking the cold weather package. About $10k trade and $14k is the absolute end-of-the-world, gotta-have-it retail price. I don't know what they are thinking.

If you do look at one with no records, you can look down the side of the radiator nearest the passenger side and find a label there that tells you the manufacture date of the radiator.

Thinking about getting a used Equinox. In Pittsburgh. Want to know if I am realistic in pricing. The asking prices on these are usually is pretty high. The one below the dealer is asking 24000. Now, a new one goes for anywhere from 24750 to 26000. So, a year older and some miles. I am thinking that I should pay close to 20000 for one. But with an asking of 24000 I am not sure if I am accurate. I don't believe in wasting my time or the dealers time if I don't think we are going to be close.

These are popular as rentals....have had a few myself. I have a relative considering one and I've been looking around for her. I've also been surprised at high asking prices for lightly used ones. Curious to see what they're bringing in real $$.

if it has zero extra options, its more like $20k trade-in. So $24k asking price is pretty much normal. You'll probably have to fight for every bit below $23k. Doubtful you could get below 22.

If you can get a new one for $25, I'd go that route, personally.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I think you are on the money. My local no-haggle low price used car dealer has one with the same miles and without AWD for 20,000. They also have a 2011 Traverse LT AWD for 24.5 which is a much better deal than 23 for an Equinox.

I guess they bring crazy money just like a CR-V.

I saw a heavily loaded one at the auto show for something like $38-39k, so they can really get up there. I'm sure they're discounted a lot from those inflated MSRPs.
