sorry, too many going through to see back that far. Cars get pushed off the list. Given the glut of Pilots, my list doesn't even extend prior to February. Anywhoo... how many miles we talkin? Anywhere from 20k-30k is floating right around the $25k mark (EX-L model). All in PA and NJ, interestingly enough. Figure you'll be looking at $28k-$29k retail out west without CPO.

For a 2015, I'm seeing $30,800-$31,800 on truecar, depending on whether or not you qualify for the loyalty rebate. I think that's a no-brainer. $4k more for 3 years newer? Yup, easy choice.

What would you expect this to get via a trade-in at a non-Mercedes dealer?

    Location: Long Island, NY
    Year/Make/Model: 2011 Mercedes ML 350 – 4Matic
    Body Style: SUV
    Driveline: AWD
    Mileage: 37,000
Color: Palladium Silver with black interior
Major Options: Navigation, Power liftgate, Harman/kardon sound system, keyless entry/start, Wood steering wheel, trailer hitch, brushed aluminum running boards, heated front seats

    Condition:
Interior - above average, clean, no stains/odors, leather intact
    Exterior – above average
    Tires – 80- 90% tread remain
Brakes - no wear indicators, unknown remaining
Maintenance – maintained per MB maintenance guide

    Thanks in advance.

Infiniti - barring any runs, hits, or errors, they are trading for an average of $24k on the coupe and ... well, the sedan is interesting because I'm seeing a pretty clear difference in the snowbelt. In your climate, about $21k. So figure about $22.5k and $20k, respectively, on the trade side.

Benz - non-MB dealer is probably going to feel safe at around $25k.

Just had kid number 3 and need to trade up to something larger. Imagine because of the age and miles it will probably make the most sense to sell private party, but wanted to see what you thought trade in would bring first.

    2008 Acura TL (base model)
Carbon Bronze Pearl with black interior
    155,000 miles
2nd owner, minor read end accident (new bumper cover)
interior and exterior in good shape (for age and mileage)
Tires don't have much left, but battery is new and brakes have plenty of life left. Also did big timing belt service at an Acura dealer around 105K.
    Suburban Chicago
Let me know what you think and if I left anything out. Thanks!

Two front tires replaced? On a Forester, that means it needs shoes on all four. If you replaced a pair at some point, you're putting a lot of stress on the center differential to sort out the different rolling circumferences. And, on dry roads all the time, that could mean bad news.

The car still rides fine. No issues so far. I am looking to trade it in but the question was what is the trade value? Cause I don't mind replacing the tires if it increase the value. The service Mgr at the dealer said I won't recoup the money. So If I can get a real world value as is without replacing the tires it would help me decide what to do.

Hope you can help. The Acura moderator sent me this way because...

I am currently leasing 2012 Acura MDX with Tech/Ent. package and the dealer has offered a 3 month lease/mileage forgiveness opportunity.

The Acura moderator said this was like a "trade in" situation so I'd like to know what numbers I should add to my negotiations. Currently things stand at:

The 2012 was 'appraised' by the dealer at $26,000.

The vehicle/terms I've been offered are:

    2015 MDX 4D Wagon SH-AWD Tech Pkg
    15,000 Miles/year
    36 month lease
    MSRP = $49,960 (including Delivery)
    Dealer Cost = 45,773.61
    Dealer Offer = 47,950
I have been quoted a residual and MF of 57% and .00055

    MSRP $49,960 x Residual (57%) = RV $28,477.2.

Dealer is asking for a down payment of $1,825.80 + 114.11 (tax on DP) + $595 Acquisition Fee.

    Total Cap Cost is $46,719.20

    Offer from dealer is $548.08 + 6.25%tax = $582.34

There is a bunch of mumbo jumbo about $3,000 cash rebate (is this equity I have in the lease?) / $1,060.09 inception fee / $1,939.91 excess cash-rebate equity but I don't see or understand where these factors in.

I'd appreciate any thoughts or advice... I don't want any down payment and don't understand the $2,176.39 mark up. They are making plenty of $$ on the lease and service.

Thanks so much for your help!

Re: G37xS, thanks. It's a sedan. I'm coming close to lease end and the residual is $30.8K. I'm trying to figure out how much to try to reduce the buy-out number by. So the auction value is roughly $20-21k?

    Looking for some advice.

I have a white 2007 Mercedes Benz ML350 AWD with beige interior and P1 package that I need to sell or trade in. It has 112k miles on it. All 4 tires will need to be replaced, new brakes all around recently. There is a very small oil leak that popped up last couple of months (small drop every couple weeks) that I haven't pursued. Was going to take care of it at the next service. Everything else is in working order and in good condition.

Is this something that I should try to sell or just trade in? What is a realistic trade in value? What is something like this fetching at auction?

Btw, I'm in Colorado Springs, CO
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736
miled-up Acura TL: you might get $6k for it if you push. My guess is they will try to offer $5k and feel they are being generous at that.

G37: Yes, auction value is roughly $21k. Manufacturers carry insurance against lease residuals, so I don't know how flexible they will be. Can't hurt to try.

Forester: What trim level? What transmission? What color combo? Any accident history?

MDX: So you want a trade value on your 2012. But you haven't told me how many miles it has. Also, what is your current payment and how many payments remaining?

ML: About $11k at the block. With the needs it has right now, you'd probably get an offer from a dealer of $9k-$9500. Without knowing the source/cause of the oil leak, its impossible for me to give you further advice on private sale.

Maybe cars are a bit cheaper here in Canada but an 08 TL's with that kind of mileage would be retailed for $6-$8k, hence the $3k-$4k trade in to allow for any recon. We've sold TL's here (05/06's with 100k miles for about $7k-$8k.

$430? How much negative equity did you roll into that one??

Well, you didn't give me enough info. Accords come with various numbers of cylinders and doors. And, as requested above, I need to know what condition they are in. Is the one with 33k miles still on the original tires? Any accident history? Pretty sure you are buried in both of them.

    Q,

Helping a co-worker buy a Mazda CX-5. They are looking at either a CPO Grand Touring AWD with under 30k miles or buying a new 2015 Grand Touring AWD.

Can you give me an idea of what wholesale and retail is on the 2014?  My sense is it makes sense to buy new.

This is in the Seattle area.

well, 30k is a heckuva lot on a 2014, and it makes virtually no difference in its price vs one with miles in the teens. So they are hitting around the mid to high $24k range (those with under 12k miles are peaking into the $25.3-25.5 range). Figure $28k CPO at a minimum. So you'd be correct. A 2015 on truecar is $29.5k ... or $29k if they qualify the for owner loyalty.

Am hoping to get some estimates for both of our vehicles if you can.

2013 Buick Lacrosse, comfort and convenience package 2, V6 not the hybrid, with 41000 miles.

2013 Acura MDX with Tech package, 14,000 miles.

Would assess the condition as good to very good for both, just normal wear and tear. In the northern burbs of Chicago if that matters.

    Thanks in advance,

Looking for trade in and purchase price in Naples FL

Trade 2012 Acura mdx tech AWD burgundy with tan leather.   About to hit 80K miles.  All maintenance up to date including rear differential fluid changes and transmission fluid changes and synthetic oil changes. Recent new tires and front rotors and pads.  Good shape, 3 small parking lot dings on passenger rear door.  May keep as travel vehicle and continue to mile it up.

Looking to buy cpo 2014 mercedes GL350 bluetec.  White over tan with 5.6k miles  Looks like it was bought at Pennsylvania auction end of Feb or early March 2015.

    Thanks

Lacrosse... having a bit of a tough time here. So that's just a base model with 2 option packages ticked off, right? No leather, no moonroof? In which case, I'd have to hit it at about $14,500-$15k.

    2013 MDX - about $32k-$33k, depending.

2012 MDX ... 80K? whoa. Only one with that many miles crossed the block, it was in PA, and it got $24k. SSooo... maybe $22.5k or so for a trade.

Benz ... yup, that was purchased at auction on 3/5 for $61,250. I can't imagine they had to do anything to it other than get it home. I'll take a wild guess that they want $68k for it, but you could take it home for .... ehhh... I'm going to say $66k. I'm really not familiar with MB CPO costs, but I'd think it would be $2k-$2500. So they'd be in the rig for $64k-$64.5k.

They are asking 69900.  Mdx is wife's car and she doesn't like to fly for 1100 mile one way trip to Naples...

check out the list on mbusa.com. They have a silver one with 8k miles for $68k asking, and some slightly older ones for far less money.

    Q,
Is that about an average price for 14 MB GL350 or did this one sell above average?

2007 Toyota Sequoia SR5 - Roanoke VA zipcode, Desert Sand Mica,4wd, 4.7L V8, tires with 5K, new brakes, odometer just rolled over to 30K (yes only 30,000 mi), 17" alloy wheels, taupe cloth interior, 3rd row seating, running boards, tow hitch, garage kept and condition inside and out is very good....no runs, hits or errors as Terry used to say.
It has been pampered. No aftermarket stuff added.

Looking for what I should expect for a trade-in on a new or slightly used Toyota Tundra, 4Runner or Sequoia.

Purchased new in 2009 ( dealer's wife drove it for a couple of years ). Just thinking it is time to try something else.

Suggestions please. Not sure if I want to attempt to sell outright.

    Thanks in advance

Lacrosse... having a bit of a tough time here. So that's just a base model with 2 option packages ticked off, right? No leather, no moonroof? In which case, I'd have to hit it at about $14,500-$15k.

    2013 MDX - about $32k-$33k, depending.

Thanks for the info. Had the wrong name for the trim, it's "Premium 2" which has leather and moonroof among other things. Here's the info from the review here on Edmunds.

The 2013 Buick LaCrosse is a large luxury sedan available in five trim levels: Base, Leather, Premium 1, Premium 2 and Touring.

Base models come nicely equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, full power accessories, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming mirror, an eight-way power driver seat (with power lumbar), split-folding rear seatbacks, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, OnStar, Bluetooth, an 8-inch display and a seven-speaker sound system with a CD player, satellite radio, an auxiliary audio jack, iPod/USB interface and smartphone app integration.

Spring for the Leather model and you get foglamps, heated mirrors, rear park assist, a rearview camera, leather upholstery, heated front seats, driver memory settings and an eight-way power front passenger seat.

The Premium 1 ups the ante with the 3.6-liter V6, 18-inch wheels, keyless ignition/entry, perforated leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated leather/wood-trimmed steering wheel and a power rear window sunshade. The Premium 2 adds chrome wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, a 120-volt household-style power outlet and an 11-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound audio system.

    Thanks,

    Chris

Buick ... AH, that makes a HUGE difference! More like $19.5k-$20k trade.

Benz... that was right in line with others.

Toyota ... well, I have zero comps on this one. The only one that comes close was way above average condition and price and had 87k miles. That hit $15,800. Honestly, to extrapolate from there based on basic miles calculations, we'd be talking $20k, but I just don't know if that's realistic. Shop it around, I'd love to hear what the offers are. I do think you'd get a feeding frenzy on Ebay with a top-notch ad and tons of pics and details. That's the way I would go. Set your reserve at $1500 above whatever your top trade offer is and sit back and watch.

Thanks for the info. I like your suggestion. I believe I will check out a few dealers and see where they are coming from on trade or outright buy. I will feedback what the outcome results are.

Naples dealer offered $431 discount with $1000+ in fees.  I replied "good luck"
