Looking to buy a 2013 VW Touareg, TDI executive package with 36K miles, good condition from local non VW dealer. Got car on trade. No CPO, original MRSP 62K What would be good price for the vehicle? Asking price 39,500. Thanks

Where is this? What color is the car, inside and out? Surprisingly, those factors will determine the price.

Touareg - eh, they probably paid around $33k or $34k for it if its not a crazy color and has no previous paintwork. Check out wear and tear items like tires and brakes. If its all good, $37k is the upper limit.

The 2013 Touareg TDI Exe has white exterior, dark brown interior. Advertised price dropped to 38,900. Brand new tires put on by dealer, brakes said to be okay. Still say max $37K? Also looking at 2012 BMW X5 3.5i, CPO with about same miles and price. Better choice?

    Hello all,

    First time poster on the forum, looking for range and best case trade in values for my vehicle in CT (06117);
2013 Lexus GS 350 AWD F Sport; Nebula Gray with Black interior
    25K miles
Navigation, blind spot monitor, F Sport Package, Rear sunscreen
One minor accident to back left bumper (no damage to headlight)
Otherwise, perfectly maintained and excellent condition
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736
Touereg - yup, $37k is the limit for me, personally, for non-CPO.

Lexus - well, I would certainly hope an accident to the back bumper wouldn't damage the headlight. ;)
But, seriously, was it back or front?? And what was repaired? Was sheet metal involved or was it just the bumper cover? What does the carfax say?

Thanks for the reply, I should have said 'back driver side rear panel' to be less ambigious. Just the bumper cover and repainting, with some buffing of the taillight, roughly $3000 total claim. Carfax shows the accident because it was reported to the police since it was an unoccupied vehicle accident (someone hit it while parked in the street and took off).

lexus - well... those without the history are floating around $30k at the block. So a CLEAN one would probably get a trade offer around $29k on average. What you get offered on yours will be very very dependent on how the used car manager feels about the history. I've heard reports of some not caring and giving full trade value and some dinging it quite a bit.

Figured I would post my trade-in experience for my 2012 Lexus CT200h Premium:

    Mileage
    16,500

    Options
    Navigation
    Premium Sound
    Remote Start

    Offers
    Acura Dealer #1 - $19,000
    Acura Dealer #2 - $19,500
    Lexus Dealer - $22,000
Infiniti Dealer - $22,000 (matched Lexus)

Lexus and Infiniti dealers went with the KBB/Edmunds price (maybe a tad higher) for Clean condition (a few cosmetic scratches). Both Acura dealers nit-picked the car to death (tire wear, floor mats, etc.) and basically had no desire to take the trade-in.

Yes, Pennsylvania. There was negative equity in my lease, so they may have just inflated the trade in to try and win me over. No way to know for sure.

The last Forester owner never responded on his model, options, etc. So, I apologize for asking for such a similar quote.

2010 Forester Limited (not turbo). 55k. All standard options. Looks good. Two accidents though. One required rear bumper to be replaced (rear ended in stop and go traffic) and the other was much more serious and required body work to the rear passenger side quarter panel. That one happened in the driveway and was courtesy of my little brother two days after purchase.

Stock tires will likely need replacement by next winter. Kept up with recommended work at the dealer, but I imagine something is coming up as I approach the 60k mark. Looking to trade in for a new Forester. Original dealership here in MA. Anyway, curious what you think.

OP noted Limited, IIRC. Leather was only available in the Limited trim for 2010. The current lineup includes both Limited and Touring, both of which are leather.

I'll never remember that. Lack of interest. ;b

Ssooo... its a tough one of course, without seeing the repair work. Even if it looks nice, the needs and the bad history... I'm thinking $11k. But you just never know. You could get lucky and find a used car manager who doesn't care or know any better.

Looking at trading in my 2012 MB E550 4Matic and trying to see what my car would fetch. It has 30k miles and no accidents. The car is white with a grey/black leather interior. The options on the car are sports package, premium 2, panoramic roof, blind spot monitor, park assist, night view, adaptive cruise, leather interior. I'm pretty sure it has every option available.

Almost bought a Lexus CT200h in December but just couldn't get past the noise on acceleration, was very obtrusive into the cabin and every used one we drove had the same issue. We tried about 7 models from a 2012 to a 2014 but all sounded the same. And they all seemed a bit slow on take off though I didn't mind the tight interior. The combo of all that racquet coupled with the slow acceleration upon take off just killed it for us. The dealership kept calling and dropping the price by small increments until I finally let them know I had already purchased another vehicle. Nice vehicles but just couldn't get past those few issues it had!

Was it tire noise or engine noise or both on the CT200? Just curious.

Definitely engine noise, and it was quite loud in the cabin. Even my wife noticed it and said I'd be crazy to buy this thing. That basically killed the deal for me and I moved on. But it was totally annoying and happened on every acceleration...my current Golf has a softer, nicer sound on acceleration and the cabin mutes it quite well.

That's a disappointment, especially on a Lexus model as the brand is known for whisper quiet cabins.

Its got 14k miles and the asking price is $23,500. Similar ones on dealer lots are 26-28k. I would think trade value is 22k or so. I got a chance to see and drive it - it's nice. Still wondering about the auction/trade value if anyone has any thoughts. Thanks.

sorry for the delay. i'm away on vacation this week.

E550 - i'm assuming this is a sedan and that you didn't mean to type 350. That's quite a beast. Sadly, as with all complex Benzes, not worth very much. Maybe $32k.

Jeep - yeah, maybe $22k-$23k at auction, so probably more of a $21k trade-in.

42k miles on a 2004, what does that work out to, something like 3.8k per year?

    And I thought I didn't drive much!

My folks own a 2003 Hyundai Sonata GLS V6 that they bought new ... now has 34,000 miles on it.

Ye the thing is we have two cars, we kept the Lexus but got a new SUV every couple years. The Lexus was rarely driven in the winter, I really hope the low mileage will help me with the trade in. Thanks.

Happy Tax Day, everyone; maybe used-car prices will soon begin to moderate...

This one's for a new post-doc at work; he's French, of course hasn't a clue about American used cars; how could he.

He likes the car linked below -- a 2006 Impala LT

    Engine: 6 Cyl - 3.5L
    Ext. Color: Superior Blue Metallic
    Int. Color: Ebony
    Mileage: 118,045
    VIN #: 2G1WT58K869157366

    Location: Lansing, MI, of course.
Asking price is a rather proud $6,450.

$6450 would be fair. But that link takes me to one with an $87xx asking price, which is ridiculous, especially in that color. They should be happy to get $6k for it.... IF IT HAD A CLEAN HISTORY! I need to know more about that accident. No way I can give it a fair valuation without seeing what was painted, if anything.
