well, they can ask $5900, but then take what? $5k on a good day? That only leaves $1500 on the bone, minus their cosmetic improvements. Maybe they are overallowing and making it up on what they are selling him.
My guess is that (i) in this town, clean GM cars are worth a lot more than they'd be in, say, Indianapolis.
and (ii) the guy has bought a lot of cars from them over the years. They may just try to be nice -- also, he is quite the big cheese locally, we're a $25-million-a-year laboratory, and he was the boss.
There's no "overallowance" -- he ain't buying anything.

Private sale? I'd start at $27,995. Just remember, if your state offers sales tax credit on trade-ins, your effective value as a trade goes way up at this pricepoint. In NJ, I'd trade in a $24k car and save an additional $1680 in tax. Makes selling it privately VERY unattractive to me.

Two more and I'm done- promise: 2015 R/T. Classic buyers remorse, I'd guess- or possibly a demo from a dealer in the same group...
2011 Challenger SRT8. Apparently a track rat(four point Sabelt harness, anyone?)- which doesn't bother me as long as it checks out.
I'd like to throw my $.02 in here (appropriate because @roadburner just sold his 2002). The 2011 SRT8 obviously fits you perfectly, but with 60K on the car at a similar price point I'd eliminate it. The Orange with Black wheels 2014 is my favorite looker of the 3, but if you could get the 2015 Green for a lower price than they are asking for it, then that makes the most sense.

The 2011 has all the track go-fast goodies- Brembos, 470 hp 6.4, etc. Still, the 2015 seems to strike almost the perfect balance between creature comforts, performance, and retro musclecar attitude. No heated seats on the 2014, but cloth upholstery is not as cold/hot as leather in winter and summer. Otherwise the car has the same equipment as the 2015, except it has a Boston Acoustics sound system(still pretty good) and it doesn't have the 2015's upgraded dashboard and console.

A gaggle of Challengers... 2014 = right about $27k. So $30k seems more than fair. 2011 SRT8 = maybe $26k tops. I gotta think $28k would take it home given the miles. 2015 = well, here is your bargain. I'm seeing $33k auction value.

Maybe $2500 for a decent one, $3000 for a puff?
Thank you - this is more than I thought it might be worth. Edmunds private-party TMV is $1,400, and dealer retail is $2,500 - perhaps the maintenance history makes a difference to the right buyer. I do see similar Prizms advertised on Craigslist for 3-4k, but they are almost invariably automatics.
Would it be against TOS to post a link to the ad here?
Sorry, no ad posting allowed here. Just clean it up, post it on craigslist for $2500 and you should sell it pretty quick. As for those $4,000 asking prices...well, asking prices are an exercise of First Amendment rights and don't have to conform to reality.
Automatics are worth more to dealers, because they have more customers for automatics. But, you only need one buyer, and there are buyers to whom a stick-shift will be worth more.

I'd guess it will sell pretty quick.
Thank you everybody for your feedback, I will post my sold price if the car sells.
I had a 1992 Cavalier with the same options. it didn't even have a passenger side mirror- that was an option I didn't pay for. Don't think you can get cars like that anymore.

Hello I would like to know the trade in value for my car below.
2015 Accord Sport Sedan with CVT color is Red Basque Pearl with Dark interior Cloth. Miles:3900 its all stock in SoCal 90606. Thanks In advance for your info.
I don't know - from my recent shopping experience that included used WRX's, those recent year hatchbacks seemed to be holding their value pretty well.
Of course, dealer retail and trade value are two different things.
Around here 2013 and 2014s are going for $25000 for the base model. My hopes are up but I know that might change once I actually talk to a dealer. I'll probably end up just trying to sell the car outright in order to not take as big of a hit. Figured it was worth looking into before I post it.
I have a 2012 Volvo S60 coming off lease soon. I enjoy the car, and am under miles, so buying it is a strong consideration. I'm 60+ days from lease maturity, so it may be premature to get a sense of the market.
That said, my local dealer is asking $1,000 - $2,000 less than my residual for similar cars with similar miles (and these have been certified, whcih I believe adds $1k-$2k of value). In most cases, they are even claiming that they were sold and serviced at their dealership. I'm guessing most of these cars are coming off lease, as opposed to from auction or via a trade in for a new car. Is there a way to search by VIN # to see if these cars have come across any auctions?
My hope is to find a way to have the dealer CPO my car and sell it to me for below the residual price. I wouldn't expect the cars from earlier in the model year to have had a lower residual, so either they're coming from an auction (if US Bank has residual insurance) or US Bank is allowing the dealer to buy the car for something closer to residual.
Not all finance companies negotiate buyouts. That is a question for the dealer. If not, it will be cheaper (if not as logical) to turn your car in, and pick out a replacement off the lot.
You can run a carfax (or one of the other auto records check services) to find the history. Or just ask the used car manager.
WRX - well, unfortunately, I can't be of much help because Manheim doesn't seem to believe there was a 2014 WRX wagon. A sedan would be $23k-$23.5k. Not sure why they are advertised for $25k. That would be a breakeven point, at best. Unless those are private party numbers.
Volvo - I can't give you any solid numbers without all the information. I agree with stickguy: talk to the dealer. Maybe they can get a deal on your car and flip it back to you, certified, for a fee.
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S
I guess my question is if the dealer is selling them for what would likely be below residual, he/she must be buying them for below residual? Again, this assumes they're not being traded in for new cars, but by the supply of 2012, I'm assuming most/all are off-lease. My ideal endgame would be to turn my car in, have the dealer buy it below residual, CPO it for me and sell it to me for a price in line with the others on the lot. In full disclosure, I like my wheels and color combination better than anything he has, and of course, I know how it was driven and maintained.
Q, if you're able to estimate the market here, I can tell you this:
2012 Volvo S60 T5 (front wheel drive) Premium Package (Leather, moon roof, etc) Climate package (heated seats, etc.) a few other less material options that added $1300 to the MSRP (metallic paint, chrome dual tail pipes, 17" upgraded wheels, wood inlays)
Savile Grey with an amber/saddle interior 13K miles Located on Long Island
Thanks. The S60 is a great car to drive. That 2012 model year car did really well in ratings of entry level luxury sedans. And at the time I leased it, Volvo was covering the first 4 payments (so 1/9 of the lease payments -their summer offer this year is one measly payment). It was the perfect storm for me, as I wasn't really looking for a new car at the time.
But they don't hold their values nearly as well as the brands they'd allege they compete against, which is helpful as I look to buy this out below residual.
Q, thanks so much. My residual is just under $21K, including the fee for me to buy it. My local dealer (and a few others about 10-20 miles further) have a bunch in the $18K - $20K asking price for 15-28k miles, all certified.
So I think I just need go pay the $395 disposition fee, have the dealer buy it and flip it to me for around $19K. If they don't want to deal, there's other dealers who have very similar cars. Actually, there's a dealer about 15 minutes further who has 3 2013 S50 T5 CPO for asking prices of $18K - $19K. That's a 2 year old car right there. That seems like a deal I should jump on if my dealer starts playing games on my 2012, no?

I've been perusing CPO 2012s myself for the past couple of months. Most with mileage in the 20k-30k range are asking around $20k in my area.
If a dealer could manage to flip yours back to you CPO'd for $19k, I think you should jump on it.
