Hi all, This is a great thread. Many thanks to all the contributors. I'd love some input on what sort of trade-in value I might expect on my car:

I can tell you m sister just traded in an '07 Black/Tan EXL V6 Accord Sedan with 95K on the clock & got $8K for it. Let's see what the all knowing @qbrozen has to say

Looking for trade in value for a 2013 Escape SEL AWD, 2.0. Bought it in January this year this year as a CPO vehicle. Color Ginger Ale, aka light metallic green. Interior black. Everyone thinks it is new, but I would rate the condition as average. SEL is heated leather seats, touch screen, 18 inch alloys, over SE model. I live in 06xxx zip code, but looking to trade in in 53xxx zip code. 28.5k miles when I would get to 53xxx(Wisconsin).

volvo - I agree. If the dealer doesn't want to play ball (or can't... I really don't know the rules in this case), it is far better for you to just go get a CPO 2013 for less money. You do have a really sweet color combo, though!
Accord - you should be able to squeeze $7k out of the right dealer. Although, with Accords, you just never know. Somebody might hit you at $6k and somebody else might lose their mind and overpay.
Escape - hmmm... could be a tough color, and it has already had 2 owners. I'm gonna have to hit it a bit low and say $18k.

Q, thanks for the reply. There is nothing wrong with the Escape, actually it's pretty good, but I made up my mind I needed to replace my 2002 Explorer and I did. It was the lowest priced, lowest mileage CPO Escape other than an SE or Titanium I could find. @Stickguy, I'm not moving, just found something I'm interested in. Maybe kind of a bucket list thing. Keeping my Fusion, which is paid for.

2013 FJ ... well, I'm a bit curious about those mods. If anything extreme, you may have DECREASED the value. But I'll give you a stock number anyway... about $27-28k.
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S
Nothing extreme by any means. Front steel bumper and larger tires and small performance suspension lift. I was shooting for 28k trade in. I did the Edmunds used value and it was telling me 24k, so I was a bit concerned!
Hey Q. need a reality check on my Volvo. To make sure I am not out to lunch on asking price. I have it out on CL (in SJ if you want to look it up!)
anyway, what is reasonable to shoot for. It is a 2007 S40 2.4i. Blue over tan leather. premium (roof, fancy radio, leather) and climate (bun warmers and headlight washers). 111,000 miles. AT.
some normal parking lot nicks and scratches on the outside. Interior is very clean though. Clean carfax (nothing but regular dealer services). I just had it through the local Volvo dealer for service, and it got a clean bill of health (really needs nothing now). newer tires with deep tread. 4K on brakes and all new (Sachs) suspension bits (those weren't cheap!).
based on this, what do you think fair asking/taking should be? What a dealer likely hits it at would be nice to know also.
I'd say a $7500 take price is fine, even $7K if you want to move on---fair enough for both parties. They seem to be sitting in the $6K--$8500 range, asking prices, including dealers, so you know $8500 is the extreme high end. T5 are gonna bring $1K--$1.5K more.
A dealer would probably be in that $3500-$4k area. Dealers are probably asking $8k-$8500 but would be pretty satisfied to get $7k-$7500 for it, so you gotta come in under that. I'm thinking you ask $6995 or $7495, but be willing to take $6k for it. Hell, even $5500 isn't totally unreasonable.
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S
I just dropped from $6950 to $6,300. And got a flurry of emails all offering $5k sight unseen. So I'm hoping for $6k since I just put all the wear and tear $ into it, and even according to the dealer, it needs nothing.
Someone shows up with 58 Benjamin's, I probably suck it up and take it. Won't be happy of course!
Geez I've seen salvaged S40s in the $6K asking range around here. But, as you say, money talks and have a "done deal" is sometimes worth offering a discount.
Q, I drove a 2012 S60 yesterday. It drove nice. Torchlight also has a couple of 2013s for $18,995 with 30k on the clock. Pretty good car for money there.
Can I get a trade in estimate for a 2013 Acura RDX base, dark red with beige interior, 28,900 mile, excellent condition. I've noticed a significant difference between Edmunds, KBB, and other online resources, but dealers offers are under all the online estimates. Please help!
Acura is at 23.5K and Carmax at 24K. KBB is saying the "average" trade in is $26.5. One dealer told me the KBB quote is always unrealistically high, but I found on their own website a link to KBB to find your vehicle's trade in value. I guess it's unrealistic expectations that get folks into showrooms!
I explained the math to my wife. she was surprised. Of course, this was right after she saw a new MDX, and said for the manyth time how it would be nice to have the bigger one (for that 1 time a year we need it!).
she also wants a Navi like in the Sonata.
but don't worry, upgrading the RDX is definitely not in the budget. Now, if she wanted to trade it in on a CX-5, could make those #s work (taking some cash back out of the deal). Of course, that is not bigger, and not as "fancy"
so just leave this one in the "ain't gonna happen" category. unless of course, it does!
I also did the rough math in my head. If I did trade it in for that, it would roughly work out as if I had leased it for ~$225/mo with nothing at inception. That is not too bad.

I have a deal pending on a 2015 CX-5 Grand Touring AWD with tech on a 24 month lease, nothing at inception for 248/month including tax (9.8% tax is killer). This includes them taking my CC on trade at 19,6 which is what I owe on it.
Scheduled to pick it up Friday, but won't have the final lease sheet until Thursday. I'll believe it's happening when the deal is closed.
Happy wife, happy life....more thoughts and details once closed.

my big problem with short term leases is the bank fee & plates. Here in CT, the leasing company holds the title to the car, so every time you lease, you need new plates. bank fee plus new plates equals about $1000 tacked on the the total cost of the lease.

Looking for opinions/advice. My wife wants to make this deal but I'm not sure how I feel.
She currently has a 2013 Honda CRV AWD. EX-L with Navigation. Grey exterior/grey interior. 28,8xx miles. Located in NY. She owes $15,8xx and was offered $20,000 trade in.
Looking at replacing it with a 2013 Land Rover LR2. Dealer said it is an HSE with navigation and backup camera. White exterior, tan leather interior. Just under 9,000, dealer says it was a service loaner. Asking $32,900.
I have never looked at Land Rover and honestly dont know anything about them, but she went to the dealer and said she is happy with the car. I would insist on driving the car myself before we make a decision, but is there anything I should be concerned with? She drives between 20,000 and 22,000 miles per year so she would rack up miles pretty quick

You should be concerned about massive service costs and huge repair bills, once you get out of warranty.
You could buy a new $50K Acura or Lexus and come out ahead over 4-5 years.
I would never do this. If she wants something larger, the Honda Pilot is brand new for 2016 and would be a fine choice. Land Rovers, as others have said are traditionally somewhat unreliable and cost a ton to maintain & repair.
