LOL.. I agree... but I'm not giving up my sports sedan for an SUV or minivan :-)
Hahahaha; while I love this comment, I cannot help but say that vans are one of my favorite vehicle types. It's just the practical side of me that refuses to be contained. We had a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan AWD for a spell, and it still ranks as one of my favorites (despite the fact that it was an automatic).

We try to use a Caravan at work whenever possible because we can all fit in nicely. We never had a minivan with our 3 kids, all within 3.5 years, but the wife insisted on a sedan so we made things fit...and they did!

Yeah, we always had sedans (or coupes) when I was a kid, but then we also never sat in those prison-like child seats whose use is mandated today! With three kids within four years of each other, I can't think of a single car my family owned that would seat five if child car seats were involved. To date, there is still only one that I've owned that would fit that measure: the '98 DGC.
Child seats are great inventions both for the comfort and safety of the children (especially when the kids are really small), but they sure are a mixed blessing for the parents.

Nope ... when I was a kid, the family went on a vacation where we drove from CA to NY and back. In a '68 VW Squareback. My sister, who was 4 at the time, rode the entire way on my mom's lap in the front seat. I was 7, and the folks folded down the back seat, loaded it up (mostly) with luggage, and gave me a spot to sit or lay on.
Which was fine until my mom decided to buy a gigantic (to me) milk can in Illinois that I had to share space with.
We did all that too. We even slept on the floor behind the back seats. Rode in the back of an El Camino. Worked fine except for the one day my Dad had to brake suddenly and my Mom went flying through the windshield with me (as an infant) on her lap. Everyone survived, but I would not return to those days!
Oh, the stories.... the stories! I'm trying to remember the most people that rode in my old '69 Econoline at once. It has only two seats, but all that open space does have its advantages! I honestly cannot recall. Maybe it was nine? May have been more, but not by many.

I remember in the early 90s when my parents were shopping for a vehicle, a salesman at a dealership was trying to sell us a Ford or GMC cargo van with only 2 seats and no rear windows. My parents told him it won't work because we need normal seating in the back. The salesman tells my dad "you're handyman, you can build some seats back there yourself easily". We politely declined.

Only about $31k. Only a few comps to go by, including one with 9k miles for $31,500, one for $30k with 11k, and one with 20k for $33k. So its kind of a crap shoot. They could hit you lower, but I'm giving you a bump up for the Nav that I'm assuming those lower-priced units might not have.

Lol...if it was a 2011 we likely wouldn't be having this conversation! Great motor and transmission wasted by the numb steering. I'll try something else for a while and see if BMW gets their act together on their cars.

Jeep - yeah, maybe $22k-$23k at auction, so probably more of a $21k trade-in.
I did wind up buying this Jeep for $22,500. Paid off the guy's loan today, pick the Jeep Friday once the money settles. I'm happy but now I really need to sell something else. Thanks again for the numbers @qbrozen

Where are you located? Color of both the interior and exterior? How about any accidents, dents, scratches? Tires, brakes and maintenance up to date? Enquiring minds want to know...
I'm in Los Angeles. Nebula Gray/Black Leather. No accident, scratches, dent. Good tire tread left. All maintenance up to date.
I noticed the condition of the tires are asked. Does it really make a big difference the condition of the tires when trading a car in? For example, my minivan has two newer tires (bought in 2012; still excellent shape) but the other two are worn out completely. If I was to trade this in, would I get significantly less because two tires are worn out? Would it make sense for me to buy two new tires to "increase the value"? Does it matter if two tires were different brands than the other two? Seems like dealers are out to screw people as much as possible and will low ball the trade-in. Even if the car is mint condition, they will probably find something wrong and low ball an offer.
Acura - well, with the needs, about $12,500-$13k. What color is it?
mkarias - well, if you were buying and selling cars, wouldn't you be concerned with every dollar you will have to put into a car? Should you take care of it? Well, that depends. For example: once upon a time, I was selling an XC90 to a Volvo dealer. The windshield needed replacing. I had a connection that would have done it for me for $300. When pressed, the dealer told me he was deducting for the windshield and it would cost him $650. Another example: traded in my Mustang this past December. I was not happy with their initial offer, and again when pressed, they complained about the mismatched summer tires I had no there. Well, I had the stock all seasons in new condition sitting in my garage at home. So I offered to bring those back. I got them to come up $700 just for that.

Sounds a bit on the rough side. A dealer is only going to give maybe $2k-$2500 for it, tops. I think $5k would be a homerun. I would probably ask $5k and be satisfied at $3500 in the end.

well, they can ask $5900, but then take what? $5k on a good day? That only leaves $1500 on the bone, minus their cosmetic improvements. Maybe they are overallowing and making it up on what they are selling him.

A TV reporter is looking for a family with a car in need of repairs, but is holding off because the estimates (preferably $1,000 or more) are too high and/or they can’t afford to pay for the repairs at this time. The reporter will work with Edmunds to evaluate the estimate and help the family find ways to bring down the cost of the repairs. The selling dealer offered $3,500.
They told him they'd "do a few cosmetic improvements and sell the car for $5,900."
Reminds me why I've been buying new in this market. Ouch.
This is a GM town, that may have something to do with it.
Thanks again,
